Preferences on EoA ships

I confess it feels a bit weird to post about this.

Just like I never shared headcanons to a ‘wider audience’ I never shared my thoughts on any ships to the same degree, except maybe through reviews of fanfics (I currently can’t remember if I did or not).

But I felt I needed to post about a happier subject, given the gloom in my previous headcanons, and while the focus on romance isn’t a heavy theme in Elena of Avalor, the series did inspire ships, and I like romance.

So, here are my thoughts on which characters I ship with which, ordered by the intensity with which I ship them.

I should note here that I’m not including ships which already exist in the series’ canon, such as Francisco/Luisa, Migs/Dulce or Daniel/Scarlett. This concerns only ships that aren’t 'framed as such’ so to speak in the series proper.

OTP Tier:

Eleteo (Elena/Mateo) - I saw their chemistry from very early on, but it seemed that the more I got involved in the fandom, the more I also got invested in the ship.

I have nothing against Gabelena or Matenaomi, nor against Gabeteo and Elenaomi (I hope I’m getting the ships’ names right). I just grew to really love Eleteo. They’re adorable together, they really complement each other, and they’re a great example of a couple who’s stronger together. And that’s all I have to say about it.

Somewhat-invested-in tier:

Garla (Gabe/Carla) - I’m not sure why, but out of all the ships I saw for Gabe, this one is the one that seems the more interesting, perhaps because it is the one that I found has the most potential. In spite of some of her deeds, Carla does come across like a redeemable person, and if she reformed herself, I could see her and Gabe getting together.

Not-really-invested-in-it-but-it-looks-like-it-could-be-cute tier:

Naomi ships -

I promise I didn’t put Naomi here out of any dislike for her. I do like Naomi a lot - among other things, she’s a resourceful, brave and clever girl and a loyal friend. There’s no way I could not love her. But I already ship Gabe/Carla enough to prefer it to Gabenaomi, and out of any other characters in the series, the only other man I saw her having anything that could be called chemistry with was Mateo, and the most I feel that could lead to is an unrequited crush from her.

That said, I’ve seen her shipped with Prince Alonso, and I do see the potential. So I guess I’d call that the Naomi-related ship I ship the most.

Isabel ships -

For safety’s sake, I’ll note that any ships involving her take place in the future, once she is a late teenager at least.

I don’t really see her paired with any characters from the series, but if we include characters from Sofia the First, I could see Isabel/James in the future, perhaps when Isabel is studying abroad and James is on some sort of knightly mission. I figure it would be an ‘opposites attract’ sort of couple - Isabel’s dedication to her studies would contrast with James’ more detached attitude to schoolwork. But at the same time, they’re both brave, so they would have that in common.

On a more ‘birds of a feather’ variety, I could see Isabel/Desmond. They’re both dedicated to schoolwork, and look like they could bond over it. They would have a different sort of contrast also, with Isabel being the more adventurous one and Desmond being more of a ‘cowardly lion’ sort - a scaredy cat who can also be brave when the chips are down.

I really don’t have a favored choice here.

Quique/Cristina -

Again for safety’s sake, like the above Isabel ships, this would take place in the future.

I’m honestly not sure where this ship came from. It looks like it just crept up on me and then pounced harder (and more effectively) than Nala on Pumbaa.

But I grew to like the idea.

We see them getting along well when they appear together (Quique is even pushing Cristina’s wheelchair), and they seem like they both mesh well while being sufficiently different. We know Cristina is rather academically inclined (she calculated how many hits it would take to break the piñata) and while Quique is not, he’s definitely clever in his own way (he did instantly ask the question that got the whole class interested in Isa’s monfuego). And while he started off on the mean side, he showed to not be all that bad deep down (for instance, he instinctively jumped to catch the guinea pigs when the malfunctioning ExerGroomer threw them into the air). And Cristina herself is a sweetheart as well.

That’s really all I have to say about it.

Professor Mendoza/Fernando -

For those who don’t know, Fernando is Cristina’s father.

And like the above, I’m not all that sure where this ship came from, though for this one there’s more of a reason.

It started out when I was wondering just why Cristina is wheelchair-bound, as I don’t feel such a thing would make sense in a universe where magic is widespread and can do a lot of things, which look like they would include restoring or granting leg mobility.

I’ll probably give more details later, but the explanation I found is that Cristina could walk when she was younger but had the use of her legs taken from her by dark magic (I’ll give you three guesses on who was responsible). I imagine Fernando would spend as long as he could trying to figure out a way to undo that, and eventually I had the idea that over the course of his attempts he met Professor Mendoza, someone likely to have an answer for his problem due to her knowledge on Maruvian culture, which probably included Maruvian magic.

As it happened, she didn’t have an answer, but I started thinking that maybe they spent enough time together to possibly grow closer and eventually get together.

Whether they’d eventually find a way to heal Cristina or not... I don’t know.

So... those would be my personal preferences on ships in Elena of Avalor.

I hope I’m not being gawked at like a weirdo after coming up with the above. And I hope even more that I’m not committing fandom suicide by shipping some of these...

PTSD 2

Author: I need a more creative name, I know. PUt in your title suggestions in comments or reblogs and I’ll change it.

The stings from the blows wouldn’t end. The blood that dripped from his forehead was a slippery texture compared to the hard lump choking his throat, the metallic tang that filled his cheeks.

White teeth gleamed in the black and red surroundings. Terrifying for its unnaturalness.

CRACK!

Every cell in hos body screamed for release, for a break from the constant torment of his nerve endings. He wanted to scream for a singular moment of rest. To let his mind be empty and free of the bombardment of senses.

“NO!” Gabe managed. Not caring that it was weak to give into the enemy anymore. His eyes widened as he took in his surroundings. Not of a dank, dirty dungeon with cobwebs and stale stains. But on cotton sheets and salt air and moonlight.

Far from the heartland of enemy territory. Th past.

Those memories of what happened to him came often. Sometimes during the day but he was able to control it. Accept that it happened, it shaped him in many ways. Since he had come back, he had been able to come to terms but at night.

Those raw first days were so real, the sensations vivid and almost familiar as the same scenario felt ingrained in his bones. In his dreams, he never left. He was still under the lash and just kept going. Not dying but barely surviving. A living hell.

His eyes adjusted to his surroundings and he rubbed the fog out of his heavy eyelids. He turned to see her next to him. Short hair tickling his shoulder as she lightly snored. So peaceful, so safe.

He hugged her closer, as if her presence could drown out the aches that still twitched under his skin. If he just held her close enough he could forget.

Naomi rustled out of his grasp and cracked open one eye, “Hello,” she whispered in a dry voice.

“Hi,” Gabe whispered softly, “Sorry to wake you. I mean I hope I didn’t. I mean,”

He stuttered but Naomi hushed him with a kiss.

“It’s okay,” Naomi cleared her throat, licked her dry lips, “You didn’t do anything. I woke up on my own.”

Gabe nodded his head, unsure of whether to say anything further. He already told her of his nightmares. There had been many nights of her holding him over the years, assuring him that he was safe. Though he still felt very much that he was stuck back there and that he’d never find his way back to the light.

She was good to him. He didn’t need to rehash what they’ve already been through together.

She knew. She always knew. Yet another thing he adored was how understanding she had been. He knew that this life, waiting for him to come back home shattered her though she’d never told him directly. He understood the ache of trying not to cry.

He remembered when he first return and he offered to take back the ring. He remembered how hollow he felt, the shame, and despair.

“Na-Naomi, he had managed to choke out, “I told you that I loved you and that hasn’t changed even though. . I understand if I’m not the same man as before. I-I don’t expect you to stay with me. I understand if my love isn’t enough. Please don’t let your feelings blind you. I’m. . I’m a broken man. You can’t stay with me. I know you need more. You need life and adventure. I can’t do that. . I don’t know if I can ever do that again. I’m okay with whatever you decide.”

Naomi started crying but not because she would leave. He should have known that she wouldn’t do such a thing. She was crying because he said he was broken when she knew he was anything but.

He hadn’t realized it at the time. He just knew he loved her.

He didn’t know if he would be whole again.

But they had time.

In a world that often felt like he was hilding behind a mask of strength, she always saw through to the real broken him. She still thought he was strong.

Gabe let out a slow sigh of release. The feeling of relaxation that always came with being near her, “I feel as if I’m in a dream right now. That the pain of what has happened is more real than being married to you with this.”

“But it is,” Naomi responded softly, absentmindedly feeling his knuckles before smoothing the lines on his face, “Gabe, no matter what, I will always stand by you. You’re not your past. You’re not broken. You’ve grown and went through the hardest thing. You’ve come from the brink. Not many people have that strength of will.”

Her hands clutching his, her direct eye contact echoed the confidence in her belief.

“I know that,” Gabe murmered, feeling more choked up than he would have liked. But it was her so it was okay.

“You don’t have to remind me. I know- I know it’s true but I just have trouble believing it.”

“It is nothing for me to repeat it. It’s not a burden.” Naomi replied, her eyes crinkling as she smiled, knowing exactly what he needed to hear.

Gabe felt his heart lightened from the pressurized vise of fear it had been encased in. She, who had seen him at his work yet still loved him, respected him.

Gabe didn’t think as she took hold of his other hand traced the in-lines. Then, barely audible. “I love you.”

“I love you too.”

Naomi gave him a small smile and leaned closer with a swift motion, she brought his chin to touch hers.

Gabe pressed his lips down on hers and let his mind drift to a blissful silence fulled with longing for each other in the peaceful, warm presence.

More hcs cuz it’s my blog and I have a terrible memory of what I have or have not posted.

Specific nightmares that the couples comfort each other

Elena's worst reoccurring nightmare is that she is stuck in the amulet. Only the amulet doesn't belong to anyone, it's just a ancient artifact buried in the dirt so it's very unlikely that she will be released again any time soon. And in the amulet she experienced the same claustrophobia and isolation as before only with a clear image of Shuriki killing everyone she loves. Over and over and over. Mateo's worst would be probably related to his dad or grandfather and failing. His worst would be like a vital moment in battle where he is supposed to do a spell and he just freezes, or messes up. Causing the battle to be lost and everyone dies, Avalor is brought to ruin and magic is banned once more. The guilt and shame eats him up as he thinks of all those who trusted him and believed in him, like Rafa and Alcazar and most of all, Elena and he failed them. Or alternatively his over-ambition causes the same results.

Gabe's worst reoccurring nightmare would probably just him as captain leading his troops into a massacre. Simply having his friends and comrades dying is enough but being the one who made the decision that led to it..worse. Probably just to rub it in would be the familiar disappointed look in Roberto's eyes and then Blanca turning away from him too. For once not on his side. Isabel's is very similar to Elena in that she is just stuck in an endless loop of seeing her parents death only it's worse. Since she didn't get to witness it, her imagination takes it to all the worse routes Shuriki could have done. Then always ending with an heart pounding chase where Shuriki is close to her heels, always closer and cornering her.

Naomi's worst nightmare would have to be something like being ignored and cast aside while someone who is more qualified and royal than her takes her place as Elena's friend, and in the council. But the kicker would be that she is speaking but no one is listening, it's like she's invisible.

Esteban's worst nightmare is depending on the big secret reveal. Pre-secret revel would be the family finding out about his secret and since we already discussed, their painful reactions of sadness, anger, confusion and betrayal at his treason. Compounded by the rest of Avalor shunning him. Pre/Post-secret reveal would be just the memory of him hiding like a coward as Shuriki invaded the palace, killing his aunt and uncle. Doña's worst nightmare is being poor again. Alone and slowly painfully starving to death.

Favorite game Eleteo: A kiss off! No no I'm joking. Maybe tag or hide and seek. But no, not just any. But a magical version where they use their skills in order to find each other. There is also a lot of running and flying around as the two try to escape each other's grasp and tease the other. Of course, the winner gets a kiss and whatever they want but the chase is just part of the fun. Gabenaomi: Olaball. Those two would have a blast running around trying to get each other's goal and showing off their sweet moves. Of course, it also involves a lot of tackling, shoving and joking around and the winner gets to choose the date or the number of goals is the number of kisses the winner gets. Estenaomi: Charades surprisingly. They are very good at deciphering what the other is attempting to say. Like Naomi's odd looking "dance" is her playing Pete with an eyepatch and a monkey. Gababel: Board games of any sort. Usually scrabble or some sort of monopoly that they switch off for more romantic questions or prizes. Estoma: Pool. It can get pretty intense what with their need to destroy each other. It can also be pretty hilarious when they have a "no holds barred" competitions and try all manners of distractions and cheating so they can win

Who curses when they argue? Eleteo: Neither. They very much prefer actually talking out their problems than yelling and screaming in anger at each other sinc that is counterproductive. Also I can't see Mateo having a cursing bone in his body and Elena wouldn't use that kind of harsh language to someone she loves. Gabenaomi: Naomi. Blame the sailor's tongue but she can start cursing up a storm. And though Gabe tries not to do it in a girl's presence (yes, Mama Blanca drilled it in) he would start too. Gababel: Again neither. For the same reasons as Eleteo.

Who wears the other clothes sometimes? Eleteo: Elena sometimes wears Mateo's oversized shirts on a lazy Sunday morning without shame and sometime teasing that she should just wear it to her meetings. She also puts on wizards robes (Yes yes yes basically it's your fic. You are totally right in that Elena would put on Mateo's wizard robe. It's just so comfy and warm and smells just like him.) I couldn't resist. Gabenaomi: They don't really do that. Although Naomi has nabbed Gabe's guard jacket once or twice on a cold winter night at sea. As well as shirt:) She says he has to practice his ability to withstand cold temperatures but Gabe thinks it more has to do with his gazing at his pecs. Gababel: Neither would. Just the size difference between them, it's ridiculous to try. Although Gabe's shirts make nice nightgowns lol Estebaomi: A few times, Esteban has tried Naomi's clothes on account of her dares much to Naomi's personal amusement. Naomi does the same and dresses in Esteban’s fancy suits and shirts. Usually for fun. Estoma: Very rarely, though once Esteban went out in Doña's robe which he staunchly insists was a traditional Satu kimono.

Who gives piggybacks rides? Eleteo: Mateo tries to give Elena some but upper muscular strength isn't one of his fortes. Besides doing it with magic isn't the same. Sometimes Elena gives him some and there is just a lot of awkward fumbling, falling and laughter. Gabenaomi: Uh Gabe duh! Oftentimes Naomi will come running and hop on Gabe's back when he least expects it and then insists on a piggyback ride to whatever destination. Or joke that he is like her own Fuego. Gababel: Gabe again, but he is the one who usually offers to ride her around and makes it a fun bumpy galloping ride. Estenaomi: Both. Naomi more often that not thanks to Esteban’s drama king ways on hiking trips or when he is sick.

Who arranges for a day off Eleteo: Elena arranges for special days off from work in the kingdom and work for the wizard so they could spend time together. Usually the dates vary between exploring the kingdom more, horse/Jaquin riding, swimming, picnics on the palace grounds, a day at the fireplace, fancy dinner and waltz. As long as they are together, they're happy. Elena is usually bounding with more enthusiasm and happiness than usual and Mateo just adores her smile. Gabenaomi: Naomi does with some help from Elena to get Gabe away from Captain work, and they spend the day doing whatever comes to mind first. They tend to be more spontaneous in that sense. Gababal: Once more, Isabel does since she can easily figure out a break in her schedule and see abiut guard duty. They spend more time at home, sometimes with one of their families just enjoying each other's companies and talking about their day. Also the occasional exploring. Who takes the covers? Eleteo: Covers? What covers? They go on body warmth alone. Lol. I don't think either would since it's more of a cocoon they wrapped themselves in but I'm going to go with Mateo. I feel like Elenais just more of a body person while Mateo can sleep with tons and tons of soft blankets and it reminds him of his wizard robes so it is extra comfy. Gabenaomi: Naomi, she gets easily cold at night and likes to bundle herself up with all the covers. Gabe tries to shrug off, that he is too macho to get cold but sometimes he tries to tearing them away from Naomi's iron grip when she's sleeping and that almost made her fall off. Estenaomi: Esteban!! The guy is a Duke, he is used to being a hundred percent comfortable. Forbid that he gets cold at night, it is the one thing he won't relent. He takes the covers he wants. Naomi usually wrangles it away but then she has to endure his complaints of how cold he is and equals it by lots of kisses. Gababel: Isabel take the covers. Moreover Gabe would gladly give it to her she use gets grabby when she's asleep so it doesn't matter if he gives it beforehand, she gets more and they end up hugging a lot. Most interesting date? Eleteo: This is hard since I bet Eleteo had a lot of interesting dates but I'm going to go with the one where it was after they were married and just had Julian. They decided to take a night off to themselves and relax with a simple dinner. But Julian wouldn't stop crying unless he was in his mother's arms so they decided to take him to the restaurant. But they couldn't just leave Ana and Bianaca alone so they came with. It was a bit harder to have any flirtations when there are two toddlers around. Not to mention how Bianca wanted to look at all the pretty decorations and Ana wanted to hold baby Julian. So the night wasn't what they expected but it just reminded them how lucky they were to be having such a family, and how adorable it was to see the other parent. Gabenaomi: It would have to be the time they almost lost the boat. They had went to the island from The Gecko's Tale but the rope snapped leading their boat out to the water. So they took a row boat and rowed to it until Gabe jumped out to garb the rope himself so Naomi followed and the two tried to figure how to pull it in since it was rather large. They managed to do it, and spent the rest of the date resting on the beach with a firm eye of the boat and talking about all the other things that could have happened like the return of Chiloya among others. Estoma: They decided to pretend to be strangers meeting at a bar and get to know each other all over again. At first it was awkward with some patrons staring, and doing their best not to reference any past event or figuring if they were meeting as themselves or their teen selves. A few drinks in, the two forgot all that and tried to be themselves. It spiraled on to dancing in clubs, Esteban re-enacting some of his youthful adventures and the Royal treasury, she taught him to ride bareback and the next morning they had to explain why a majority of food was found staining the guest bedrooms.

Who feeds the other? Eleteo: Both. Elena starts it at first in the beginning stages of the relationship since she is much more impulsive and Mateo is still very self conscious and aware of how it may appear to others. But then of course, he starts doing it too. Anything for his lady love. Gabenaomi: Gabe feeds Naomi after giving up trying to stop her from stealing pieces of food. Naomi secretly thinks it's cheesy but she loves it. Gababel: Gabe again. He loves Isabel. He would do anything and that means pulling all the stops and being a totally inner romantic just as Blanca encouraged. Estenaomi: At first, Naomi does it as joke usually mixing in purpose to make fun of Esteban’s pampered upbringing. Then attentive, changed man Esteban would do it similar to Gabe.

Who plays footsie? Eleteo: Elena!! Elena, Elena, Elena. She can't help herself. She loves to show any kind of affection to her boyfriend/husband and will mischevious do it under the table if need be. Estenaomi: Esteban, he is such a flirt and knowing him, he woudkd do it when he gets bored at meetings. Or sometimes he would do it just to get Naomi distracted. Gababel: Isabel. She's like her sister in being more public about her affection. Just because he has a reputation as captain of the guard doesn't me she particularly cares. Gabenaomi: Naomi to Gabe. Similar to Isabel, she doesn't care that Gabe has a reputation to live up to and just wants to be with her man. Also she's mischevious in that sense too. What kind of couple class would they do together? Eleteo: I feel like cooking (??) Totally unimaginative but there is a certain domesticity with cooking. It's a nice break from their crazy, magical work a day lives. Plus it gives plenty of opportunities for food fights, finger licking and food sharing. Gabenaomi: Mountain climbing. Can that be a couple class? I feel like it would be a good couple class for them. Working out, adventuring and sharing trust at the highest height possible. Estenaomi: A dance class of some sort. If it was a modern AU, probably hip hop. Delivering every move with grace, style and a hint of the heat between them. Gababel: Yoga. It combines the use of Gabe's muscular strength and always being there to lift up and catch Isabel while Isabel calculates the bets way to get into position without straining any muscles.

Estoma: Pool. They get extremely competitive trying to distract each other. Who slips innuendos? Eleteo: Elena. Because she can and she doesn't mince words when it comes to how much she loves her husband in every sense. Usually when she's bored or in a particularly flirty mood. Mateo does too but he'd rather do that in the privacy of his room. Gabenaomi: Naomi. She had heard quiet a few from days in sailor bars and often conveys them to Gabe especially after he comes from home after battle or on their dates. Gababel: Neither really. If it does happen it would be accidental or out of context. But I can't really see it happening. Estebaomi: Is this a question, Esteban. Only he would think his are incredible witty and charming and sexy. Not the result all the time but when it falls flat Naomi just laughs and shakes her head at his attempts.

First Date

“Are you ready, m’lady?” Gabe bowed as if exiting from the bedroom was the same as being escorted to the ballroom. Which was almost accurate.

They were heading to a new salsa club hat Gabe wanted to visit for date night. A well deserved date night. Even though they fell asleep next to each other every night, it felt had felt like they hadn’t seen much of each other in weeks. Naomi had recently accepted an offer to host a series of lectures at the university at the behest of Professor Mendoza and Mateo in exploring Maruvian classic spells to create environmentally and nautically influenced fuel to phase out the exhaust used by the guards in travelling back and forth around the perimeter with the pedo-gondala.

Gabe had been busy with the border guard and training rural guards and small village militias that didn’t have many guards to control crimes within town while also looking at invaders. No one could be in two places at once after all. So that kept him out of sight for days though he managed to usually come back at home around midnight to surprise the kids before heading back out three hours later. It was only three more weeks of this but Naomi was ready for it to be over.

So with these busy days, poring over books and racing from place to place to watch the process of their findings, it did not leave much time for talk at night. Just sleep.

But they were both being afforded a small weekend break thanks to Elena’s intervention and they chose to spend a night on the town to remind themselves of their youth amidst all the responsibilities.

As they walked down the hall, they heard a thump behind 000 closed door and some mumbled cursing. Naomi and Gabe shared the same look and smile. They weren’t the only ones going out tonight.

Marina was going on her first date, and from the sound of it, she was not having a good time choosing an outfit.

Esteban knocked, “Marina? Mija? May we come in?”

“Huh? What? Come in,” Marina vaguely called from the other side. They opened and instead of seeing rumpled, discorded outfits everywhere as Naomi expected.

They saw Marina brilliantly dressed in a golden silk dress that highlighted her eyes. Her hair twisted up in a french braid crowned to her head, kept into place by a pin in the shape of a tiny poinsettia bouquet.

The only unusual sight from what seemed a perfectly normal image of a girl ready for a date were Marina’s heels.

Spiky three inch heels that as Marina quickly twisted around to face them, led to her falling on her face.

Naomi bit back a giggle at the abrupt fall and managed a somewhat caring, “Are you okay?”

Which was true as he rarely changed his clothes exempting the suits for special occasions. A joke that Naomi pointed out regularly as if he was afraid to choose outfits himself.

“I just want to look good, Papi,” Marina said pleadingly, “I want to look tall and gorgeous and. . “

“You are all those things already,” Naomi interrupted seeing Marina’s flustered and flushing chees that there was more at play than simple fashion choices, “Perhaps you’re nervous because you’re overthinking things?”

“How can I not?” Marina cried, flopping back onto he rbed when her unsteady heels would not hold without wobbling.

“I can’t not think, Mami. It just starting out fine and I’m excited to see her and go on a date but then I can’t help but imagine. Like what if it’s awkward? What if she’s expecting more? I mean it’s a date. I have to look nice! No, better than nice. Gorgeous! And I have to be fun. It’s supposed to be fun and casual but I don’t want to be too casual. I want her not to friend zone me but then, what if she ends up being the horrible, boring one? Then I’ll be stuck and have to friend-zone her and-”

“Mija, mija, mija. I understand how you feel,” Gabe cut in, grabbing hold of Marina’s hands in a gentle squeeze. Naomi climbed onto the bed to cuddle up to Marina’s side in a hug.

“You are a wonderful, kind, intelligent and fun girl. Anyone would be lucky to date you as long as you are yourself, sweetie.”

“But I-”

“You can’t stop thinking,” Gabe finished, “Believe me, I was a nervous wreck before my first official date with your mom.”

Marina giggled, “I know. You told me.:

“I know I know. So you should remember that my mama, your abuela reminded me to be myself. That’s what you should do too. But a little confidence goes a long way to remembering how awesome you are so wait here,” Gabe ran off to his room.

Naomi turned to Marina, imparting a little love advice she had gotten from her father when she had started to go deeper into dating and marrying territory with Gabe.

“Romance can be scary. This date can lead to a big one or it’ll just be a little story or you may not even remember it. But there’s always aleap into the unknown. And know what else? You have your family behind you for it all. Even if this date is just meh or not as you hoped, we will always think you’re an amazing girl.”

“Thanks Mami,” Marina hugged her tightly and Naomi helped to redoe her braid and find more appropriate shoes.

Gabe entered the room, smiling at the almost mundane image of Naomi braiding Marina’s gold hair into perfect plaits. Both looking at peace in the soothing motion of hair curled between nimble fingers.

“I have something. This belonged to your bisabuela. My father’s mother and he gave it to me when you were born,” Gabe held up a silk magenta cord that hung an exquisite emerald. Smooth, reflective, both could see their image in the shine.

“She wore it for her anniversaries wth my father because she said it always made her feel beautiful. That no one could match her in looks or personality. You’re like her, Marina. Opinionated, fiery, and nothing can stand in your way either. So I hope this gives you the same confidence it gave her.”

Marina licked her lips, feeling the smooth gem under her fingers, eyes filliung with the memories and nostalgia connected with the necklace. Gabe rarely talked about his parents since their passing. Nothing major just inevitable but the grief was still raw. But to have a piece of them. . .

“Thank you, Papi. I will care for it so well. I won’t let it out of my sight. Thank you!!”

Gabe hugged her, “Let me put it on you. Yes, you’re gorgeous mija. You will knock her dead.”

Marina twirled once in front of the mirror, dress flying out and beamed at them, “Thank you so much! I’m-I still have some butterflies but I th-I think I’ll be fine.”

“If you really want, your brothers can chaperone your date? Or we can join? Make sure nothing goes wrong. . “ Gabe suggested.

The twinkle in his eyes went completely unnoticed by Marina who reacted with a horrified “NO!”

“I mean,” Marina cleared her throat for a much politer, “Umm no thank you. I will be fine.”

Gabe and Naomi suppressed their laughter as they stored out the door, leaving Nathanial to the honor of intimidating his granddaughter’s date.

The cold wind hit Gabe’s cheek and he unexpectedly felt the touch of soft lips against his fingertips. He stared at his fingertips,s till curled around Naomi’s and amrveled how they still tingled like it was lightning zooming up and down his arm, taking all his strength not to shudder with delight at the sensations.

But shudder he did at Naomi’s smile. Like the glow of the sun and alittle something more. A little unexplained look. That was her, always a surprise even when he knew her so well. Not that he’d have it any other way.

She smoothly yet casually laid her head against his shoulder as they walked out, “Just thinking about love?”

“Hmm,” Gabe hummed, “I was exaggerating how nervous I was, you know, so she didn’t feel alone in her feelings.”

“Uh huh,” Naomi smirked, playing along, “I know. Your utter confidence and belief that your evert word and action is right is what attracted me to you in the first place.”

Gabe couldn’t even keep a straight face at that one, “I love you.”

“Love you too. Never change. . I mean never chagnge into what I described. I was being sarcastic. Tha arrogance is-”

“I know, I know. I prefer this to acting anything like El Guapo or something. I’d have stayed in the friend zone for sure,” Gabe mock-dabbed imaginary sweat from his forehead.

“Yeah,” Naomi sighed, “I’m so glad we took a leap past the first impressions and friend-zoning. Best decision of my life.”

What they learned to enjoy from each other? Elato: Elena learned to enjoy magic. Even more. She always liked magic but being with Mateo she gained a new appreciation of it. She learned to love how interwoven it was in the history of her kingdom and how the intense concentration it takes. Okay, not that but she loves seeing Mateo's intense concentration. Of course, there is the gratification and wonder she feels seeing it all come together first hand. That feeling of being small among the vastness sorta. But also of wonder of seeing how beautiful it is and the enjoyment of it. Mateo learned to enjoy dancing. He knew the old dances from his mother of course. But being with Elena, he gains a new love of it. The energy and the art of it. You know, holding the princess whom he adores close and feeling the warmth and joy just radiating from her. Dancing as a pair, he feels connected in a new way and admires how dance inspires the body to move like how he is used to seeing magic transform and move. Gabenaomi: Gabe learned to enjoy sailing from Naomi. I mean, how could he not learn to enjoy sailing from her. It is almost a part of her soul. He now enjoys the bump of sea and the smell of sea salt as they ride the waves. He sees her be in her element and be alive and it is invigorating. He enjoys being able to be of use with the heavy lifting and such too. Naomi learned to enjoy fencing. She didn't enjoy the training part of it but she did like the tense edge between knowing what your opponent might do and not knowing how they will surprise you. She liked how the acrobatics were a bit similar to climbing the masts and all the rope skills she alreayd knew and she learned she was quite adept at it. Not near Elena's level but she could hold her own. Estoma: Esteban learned to enjoy poetry. He has been an avid reader but mainly in nonfiction and other important documents. But Doña explained it in the Shuriki era that poems are quite similar to songs. The lyrically and musical flow. It was a nice replacement since songs were banned. For Doña, she learned to like olaball. No where near the same level of enthusiasm as Esteban but he encouraged her to see the finer points of the game. Okay, she mainly watches to see his reactions.

Who buys the others clothes? Elena buys Mateo clothes. Especially when they get married since Mateo has to fufill new royal duties. She also did when they were just friends like new wizard robes and such because as the royal wizard he had to look the part even though he didn't feel like he was ready quiet yet. But she does like getting him clothes, seeing her wizard all dressed up and handsome for an event gives her a tingly feeling. He looks so confident. Naomi buys Gabe clothes. Usually tuxes or when he needs better clothes for sailing than his guard uniform. Gabe tried to buy her clothes once and quickly learned that she will not wear it unless they were adventuring pants or something just more comfy. Neither buy clothes for the other. They're kinda picky about it. And then it spurs arguments like "What? You think I don't look pretty enough in the clothes I pick?!" "Who made you queen of style?" Etc Do they do mani/pedis? Sometimes. Usually during a lazy day. It started when Elena was doing Isabel's and then Isabel said that Mateo should have one with french tips. Mateo decided to go along and humor her. But he sorta liked it. You know, having the hand contact with Elena and that it was relaxing in that they would spend the time talking and discussing their day. When he does hers, he sometimes uses modified spells to add little decals or make it glossier. Plus he finds it cute to see Elena being so focused on getting the polish just right. He feels pampered. Sometimes when he gives it to Elena he can get distracted though and the nail polish goes over the place and they have to begin again. Oh well, more bonding time for them. For Gabenaomi, no. Gabe on the account of machoismo. Naomi on the account of she doesn't know how. Plus it's not really practical considering their rough and tumble adventures. Rarely. They very rarely do it with each other. There are few times when Esteban isn't presentable. Maybe a pedicure once in awhile if there is really nothing to do. Who gets easily flustered by compliments? Mateo does. Even though his confidence is growing, he still sometimes feel like he doesn't deserve it or that he is still just the boy hiding his magic in his basement. Plus Elena gives them often at unexpected times to him. Like "you have the sweetest smile mi amor" and he doesn't know how to react. He just sees himself as one who helps, that he doesn't need much praise. But Elena's compliments are so genuine and sincere, and he loves her so he just blushed and smiles, stammering that it's nothing. Hmm hard since I both seem them getting flustered but then try to bring back their confident facade. I could see Naomi getting flustered if Gabe compliments her looks or grace since she has rarely been told that she looks like a princess, and she works hard to show how special she can be, she can get flustered by when someone acknowledges that. Hmm they are both pretty sure of themselves. And Esteban accepts most compliments readily with a "This is true." She loves loves physical affection as we all know and her ideal romance time would be sitting in a comfy chair on his lap with him, talking, cuddling and kissing him. A bit of comfy home feel to it. Just taking each other in and being with each other. Which Mateo gladly gives. Gabenaomi: Hmm again I feel it would be both. As for all of Gabe's machoness I think he has an inner romantic affection person. Probably stemming from what he learned from his mom. He likes being the protector and the giver in the relationship and making sure Naomi is happy. He sometimes has an image of him coming home from and Naomi is back and he make sure the food, and Naomi is with the kids. A bit of a picket fence thing. Only it would be a picket ship here. Naomi never though she was really a romantic until Gabe told her that little idea. At first she thought it was sweet if a bit rose colored. But the more she thought of it, she kinda like the idea. Plus having the cuddling in action, she found the reality of it to be really good as well. In short bursts after a long day at least. Estoma: Esteban is more of a big show-everything-you-got romantic. Picture Naomi's quinceñera. But in the form of dates. There will be a candelabra, four string quartet, rose petals everywhere. The works. Francisco/Luisa raised that you should cherish the women. Doña kinda leaned toward Elena's version of romanticism after being without physical affection so long she wants it back again. For a long time she felt foolish to tell him that but once she did he went the other direction. how couples bring out the best in each other. For Elato... Elena brings out the impulsivity in Mateo because we all know he will do anything for his princess. She also gives him more confidence in himself and makes him realize that he can do great things. It kinda ties in with that he gets Mrs impulsive with the greater confidence he has. Mateo brings a sense of calmness to Elena. He is stable person in her life and makes her slow down. You know, sit still and listen to him read his spell books. He reminds her that she is not alone anymore and she can vulnerable with people other than her family. She may be the people's princesses but they don't expect her to be perfect. For Gabenaomi... Gabe reminds Naomi that sometimes law and order is good. He also allows her to be vulnerable in a way too. He will be there to protect her physically and she doesn't need to be Miss Badass all the time. She doesn't need to handle everything all alone as she is used to traveling around just her and dad. They can handle things TOGETHER. Plus to him, she may be a sailor girl but she is special as an noble. She slowly gets more comfortable with him and sometimes, spbosses him around on the ship. Naomi shows Gabe that spdoing things on the fly is one of the best ways to have fun and Gabe slowly and I mena baby step slowly starts shying away from rigid military following of rules. She also teaches him to get a bit more confrontational and not let others put him down without a fight. I.e. His dad. Finally Estoma... Esteban brings more of a sense of morality to Doña. That people are more than pawns and that the bottom line isn't always important. Doña reminds him to focus on the people of the reign. Yes, he is working for the greater good of the kingdom but maybe he should consider the feelings of the workers. Whose feelings may not be the same as those of a royal. Now for the similarities, They both get the other's feelings and not letting their loved ones down. The struggles of holding up to such a magnificent legacy. Also those feelings of isolation and helplessness in their past situations and losing a loved one. They hold the old traditions of Avalor close to their hearts and they understand the meanings behind them. They both have similar compassion to people and get why the other feels the need to put others first. Movie scene I always visualize: It takes two from Into the woods. Basically it's them singing since we both know Elena lives to sing. So singing how they need each other to work things through and end by rolling down the hill laughing. Yeah the Gabenoami was hard at first until I thought of the one big difference between those two and ran with it. For their similarities... They both have an adventurous side to them. They both get the need to prove themselves from a "common" background to better positions in society. They both like exploring ruins and They both had been isolated from one parent (in different ways obviously). They both can enjoy playing Olaball with each other so that would be a nice couple thing to do. Movie scene I always visualize: The karaoke scene from 27 dresses. I know they don't have karaoke but they could totally start up a singalong and playfully argue over the words and who has it right or not. Well you can always apply her self centered view as a worker to others too. Lol. Now for their similarities.. The need to be respected. Hoo boy that is number one. The need to be recognized for their accomplishments. The need to get the job done. They need to have a proper and respectable appearance. Also admiration for culture. They also have been fairly isolated for a while so sometimes a longing for affection. Movie scene I always visualize: The dance scene from Titanic. I always imagine it's at some foreign retreat. Away from Shuriki's presence and have a chance to dance again and basically have fun. Who reminds the other to take care of themselves?Eleto: Both would. But Mateo more. I mean Elena is one who sees her role as the leader as all encompassing, she must make decisions, she must do the work, she must sacrifice herself for her people. She and she alone. Mateo reminds her that she is as important as her people and that she needs to rest and recharge and no, she's not alone. She isn't expected to do all the work. But Elena does remind Mateo to take care of himself in the way she reminds him to eat, and sleep and other necessary things for when he is very concentrated/focused on his magic studies or a new spell he is trying to learn. Gababel: Isabel reminds Gabe. Gabe is like Elena in that he tries to do things on his own and has this habit of putting up a tough face when in pain (you know, as a solider does) or to keep fighting even when he is hurt so Isabel reminds him that he has to dress his wounds and such before getting into the next battle. Gabenoami: Again, Naomi reminds Gabe. I mean Naomi is pretty self-able and knows her limits most of the time. Again, Gabe tries to cover his up. Though Gabe does try to dial back some of Naomi's workaholic tendencies when she's stressed. AU Esteomi: Naomi reminds Esteban. Younger Esteban thought he was invincible and surely sees every adventure from the positives, not the potential killing factor. Also he is impulsive which gets him into trouble like in Finders Leapers while Naomi thinks things out (sometimes). Plus Esteban is stubborn in that he can handle anything and everything which has been proven he cannot. Alonsonaomi: Alonso reminds Naomi. Like he told Elena in Prince Too Charming, sometimes you got to have fun and live a little admist all the work which Naomi would need whenever she is into some high profile event planning or project. Estoma: Esteban reminds Doña. She comes from the idea, "We're all adults, we can handle ourselves" while Esteban, though he is used to his very stressful high profile jobs, takes time to relax and enjoy his own pursuits. If Doña works is like the workaholic in my story she definitely needs the reminder. Do they make pillow forts? Eleto: Yes, they would make a pillow fort. It fits Elena's playful nature and she would use it as an excuse of finding "solitude" with her favorite wizard king. Gabenaomi: I feel like it would be a no. Unless one of them is a particular playful mood and the other humors him/her. Gababel: They would but it would be according to Isabel's exact measurements on how to make it the biggest, complicated and sturdiest fort one could make out of pillows. AU Esteomi: Hmm again not sure, unless one is a particular mood. After all, what's a pillow fort when they have a whole ship. Alonsonaomi: I think they would if Alonso being an only child never made a pillow fort before himself (he usually has his servants to do it for him) and Naomi would urge him to do it and they end up have more fun then they thought. Estoma: Considering who they are at this age. No.

Hcs, hcs, more hcs!

Modern AU amusement park/boardwalk fair headcanons Eleteo: Favorite thing to do is the Farris wheel just sitting watching over the horizon and enjoying each other's company, of course Elena is sitting in Mateo's lap by the end. She can't help herself. They also enjoying walking hand in hand at the boardwalk while eating churros from the vendors. Mateo always enjoys watching the street magicians and telling Elena the secret behind their tricks. Elena often tries to pursuade Mateo to show off too but he declines most of the time. The end the night enjoying a nice front row seat to the fireworks and star gazing. Gabenaomi: These two are roller coaster maniacs. They try every thriller ride there is too see who can one up each other. They also enjoy the spinning teacups as they used their combined strength to go as fast as they can. Once they're dizzy enough and a bit reluctant to eat they spend their time at the arcade where Gabe tries his strong man routine but Naomi beats him out in throwing balls and water gun shooting. Gababel: Isabel and Gabe spend most of their time in the arcade and street vendors where Gabe tries to use the hammer to get to the top of the bell and win her stuffed animals and food while Isabel uses her smarts to guess the most jellybeans in a jar and of course, in finding the right angle to throw things. For rides the favorite is the carousel while eating cotton candy they got half off from Gabe's mom. Alonsoami: The two really love the bumper cars and the racing around the track at the fastest pace they can go. But they also do enjoy some downtime walking among the street vendors and performers where Alonso tried to copy a robotic dancer. Favorite food would have to be the creamy sweet churros but Naomi quickly gets him hooked on fish and chips too. She was very surprised to find that despite his boasting, Alonso was a very shrill screamer on roller coasters lol. Estoma: They spend the whole day at the arcade competing. Honestly, competition is like their default mode with each other. That doesn't mean they also enjoy some walking and funnel cakes as they try to carry their prizes. Some family headcanons since I love family

Eleteo: So Isabel is like the sister Mateo never had (or knew knew hehe Carla theory) and Mateo is like a big brother to her when he gives her advice, helps her with her science projects with some magic, and always there when they happen to have free time together. This just happens more and more once he is officially in the palace. She sees him less of Elena's husband and more of a friend but she still was very eager for them to become an official family so she could call him a brother for real. Luisa dotes over him constantly and even when Elena and Mateo were dating called Mateo, "Mí hijo." She was not subtle at all. When Mateo moved in Luisa could often be seen smiling happily at breakfast when they are all with each other. Francisco was much more reserved but he did respect the boy and was happy that he made Elena happy and readily welcomed his new son on their wedding day. Esteban was like Francisco, a bit more reserved but he didn't stop it. Besides once he got used to the idea he appreciated how Mateo was a nice balance for his impulsive cousin and they are able to discuss books and chess (I'm sorry I just really love your story with them playing chess!!!) Gabenaomi: (Hopefully this one is shorter) Scarlett and Daniel both enjoy Gabe's company. Gabe usually helps Daniel on the docks when he has off days from being a guard and Daniel takes the time to have "man to man" talks with his son in law. Blanca loves Naomi and Naomi loves Blanca equally since Blanca is so sweet and often sneaks her food and pastries for her new daughter. Things between Roberto and Naomi were tense at first because Naomi still remembered all the criticsms Roberto gave Gabe and Roberto was a bit uneasy with a girl who called him out on it. The tension went on for months until, Naomi made a smart remark that Roberto found hilarious. Somehow it broke the ice and they slowly started to like one another. In doses though. Alonsonaomi: When King Ramon thinks of the kind of trophy wife that Alonso could have chosen, he is immensely relieved that he chose Naomi. He admires her s*** and often commented how he would love to have her stay at his palace forever with his son. He was a big shipper on deck and may have planted some ideas in Alonso's head of marriage. Scarlett was a bit wary of Alonso as a husband/boyfriend at first because of his "chill" attitude and playboy reputation but he quickly won her over with some charm and an afternoon sailing together. Daniel was fine with whoever Naomi chose and welcomed him to the family when the time came. Gababel: Like with Mateo, Luisa made plenty of hints on how she approved of the relationship and how she would love to see it become permanent and "accidentally" calling Gabe her son. Elena was the same with calling Gabe her brother and suggesting fun couple dates to do together. Esteban was a bit surprised at Isabel's choice but warmed up to it simply because of Isabel. He has a soft spot for her and whoever made her happy must be good. Blanca adores Isabel and is often amused when Isabel joins her in the kitchen using her calculations to make food. There was not much tension between Isabel and Roberto, Roberto simply allowed the crown princess to do as she liked but Isabel made a point to counter any criticisms Roberto had of his son's choice of work. Estoma: The family was a bit concerned and surprised when the two got together. Surprised because the constant bickering that went on beforehand gave them no clue, and concerned that with Doña's greedy nature, there was an ulterior motive. Eventually things settle a bit and it becomes a "new normal." Elena and Doña occasionally ride together and talk. Luisa allows them to do as they please but occasionally does tease that the office doors will have to stay open from now on so she'll know they're actually working and not "working." That's it. I couldn't think of any more. Who imitates the other or what habits have they picked up. Eleteo: Elena has gotten more expressive in her facial expressions and has copied Mateo's grandiose arm movements, flinging them this way and that like she's doing a spell. She may have also started copying some of his clumsiness but they may be just her being distracted by her adorable wizard. She can also do a pretty good impression of Mateo fanboying hich he insists looks nothing like it. Mateo can copy some of Elena's mannerisms like when she's doing a speech since she often practices in front of him. Gabenaomi: Naomi does an awful impression of Gabe's "guard" stoicism complete with exaggerated muscles and "manly" voice and trying to do the strict guard step walk. Gabe, however imitates Naomi's breathless excitement when she sees a new ship. Gababel: Isabel is a bit like Naomi in that she sometimes makes fun of Gabe's "guard" facade or uses his authoritative voice in giving out orders. She actually did a pretty good copy that some servants had actually thought it was. Gabe has tried to copy Isabel but he always messes up in the science vocabulary lol. Alonsoami: Naomi starts picking up on Alonso's walk or sometimes strut when she's feeling particularly confident. She also imitates his usual spiel of "feel free to have fun." Estoma: They actually have done accurate impressions of each other, you know years of hearing the same speeches to ambassadors. Esteban is quiet good at fluttering a fan as she, and she copies his posture and hand movements. Some scent headcanons. Idk what to call them Eleteo: Elena loves the smell of wildflowers, roses, peaches and chocolate. She just enjoys the smell of sweetness and the outside and it just makes her joyful and happy. Well she is usually that way but it makes her more so. Besides who doesn't like the sweet smell of chocolate. Anyway Mateo enjoys the smell of fresh fruits and grass and his potions but it's wiser not to smell that last one too deeply for obvious reasons. Anyway the two often go on nice long walks and if they happen to stop in a secluded grove of fruit trees they have a nice time together similar to how you imaged them being in the garden wink wink. It's really romantic too when the wind blows and flower petals swirl around them as they kiss and the scent fills the air. Gabenaomi: It should be quiet obvious what Naomi's favorite smell is....the ocean. The home she loves most of all. The salty sea air and fish even though it's not everyone's favorite scent it is hers. Gabe loves the smell of flour and bread as it reminds him of the times he spent with his mom in the kitchen. So sometimes in the kitchen they would bake bread crusted flour and enjoy the two scent mingled together and—as alway seems to happen—get flour all over each other like ghosts. Gababel: Isabel loves the smell of chocolate just like her sister as well as the smell of begonias. Begonias are used in science for medicines and herbs and they definitely smell better than chemicals. Once Gabe actually spread the table with freshly cut, multi-colored begonias during Christmas and she was so very touched by the gesture. Estoma: Esteban is partial to the smell of lavender and roses because they are very sooth-inducing scents and he associates it with romance and pleasure so sometimes he adds a few crushed petals to his cologne. Doña rather likes the smell of hay it reminds her of home. It was one of the only times she reminded Esteban of Elena because she didn't even wait for him to get unsaddled before urging him to "other" activities in the hayloft. Breakfast/waking up hcs

Eleteo: Mateo is the one that wakes up Elena usually slowly with small kisses across her neck and face. As well as cuddling lots of cuddling. Elena is very reluctant to get up so even when she's up she's still half asleep. Mateo sometimes carries her to the dining room shaking his head playfully and smiling at his wife as she cuddles up closer to his chest. As they eat, Mateo sometimes gets a pan dulce because sweets is usually what wakes up Elena first while he has bagels and soup. He watches her as slowly the more she eats she starts becoming energized and playful as she usually is during the day. It starts with a smile as she sniffs the sweet smell of pan dulce and coffee, then they end up feeding each other or food fight. Whatever comes first. By the end she's on his lap, putting food on his lips and hers wanting to kiss. Which Mateo has to oblige. How could he not. Alonsonaomi: Naomi wakes up Alonso up with some passionate kisses promising to give more if they go to have breakfast. Naomi rarely allows for them to have breakfasts in bed because she knows if they did, they would never leave much to Alonso's charign lol. Alonso is like Elena as that he enjoys his beauty sleep, but is much quicker to wake especially when Naomi tears pieces of her food to throw at him or pres against his lips. Once Alonso's fully awake he personally makes Naomi coffee because he wants to start off the morning by showing his queen how much he cares. Gabanomi: Gabe wakes up early for guard duty but he always prepares breakfasts to put on the table for Naomi. Usually a hearty meal of fish that she got from her parents and a pastry of some sort. He makes excellent pastries. They have a tradition that Gabe comes to wake up Naomi up with the pastry in his mouth and she gets to guess what he made. She pretends not to get right on the first try so she can kiss him longer most of the time. Gababel: Again Gabe makes the food as an early riser but Isabel joins him for breakfast more often since her work starts early as well. They share a nice cup of coffee and Avaloran chocolate (the best of all chocolates) talking to each other about plans for the day, and Isabel helps Gabe clean up the dishes. Somehow they always end up dancing around the kitchen which neither can really explain either. It just happens. Estoma: Since Doña wakes up at the crack of dawn and Esteban would never do such a thing, she has breakfast early and wakes him up at a more appropriate time. Usually she brings in coffee and starts blowing the steam in his face. When he refuses to move she into the bed with him whispering in his ears until he squirms away. He really regrets having a gf that's so awake and ready in the morning. But other times she brings the whole breakfast to him and he's happy. "Getting caught" headcanons Eleto is usually very open about their affections with each other so it's not a surprise when they are kissing in nooks and crannies. But the first time Eleto got caught was when Elena said she had some sort of 24-hour bug to get out of one day of paperwork and spend time with her favorite wizard (it was in the beginning of her pregnancy. Hormones). Mateo didn't want to go with it, but he couldn't exactly resist Elena's advances lol. So they kept kissing and cuddling around the palace rooms until Isabel walked into his workshop. She had been going to ask him a question on potion calculations when she caught them in a soon to be compromising position and immediately deduced Elena's "bug" wasn't as bad as she let on. Gabenaomi: Naomi always sneaks up to Gabe's barracks even when he is on duty. Most of the time he manages to hide her away so people won't suspect hanky-panky in the guard quarters (hey he must be a role model to the others). But one day, they just got too caught up in each other to notice the door open so the guards could have a full view of their captain and his girl. Gababel: Like Eleto, they're very open about their affection so they don't "get caught" much. But one time Gababel's discreet kisses when they walk behind the group weren't so discreet and it took them a minute to realize that the group had stopped walking and was smirking at them. Alonsaomi: Yes, they get caught quiet a few times. Naomi tries to remain professional at first in her relationship with the prince but he always sneak past her defenses. So once, Alonso drops in, things lead to another, and has to hide under Naomi's desk when Mateo and Elena stop by. They probably would have gotten away with it if Alonso hadn't sneezed. Elena teased her friend for weeks afterwards about it. Esteomi: Sometimes Esteban's dates with Naomi go longer than anticipated, ahem more like their kissing goes on longer than the Turner sanction curfew. He usually hides when they check in but one time the fire alarm went off and when they both ran out of the room. The secret was out to the Turners much to their dismay. From then on, Daniel personally escorted him home. Hehe Estoma: In the beginning of their relationship they decided to keep it a secret just to see how it goes. It was fine until one day, Doña was leaving the palace early so to avoid the servants but Francisco and Luisa had decided to have an early breakfast that day. Esteban tried to distract them so she could leave undetected and it was fine. They even thought they got away with it until Luisa said, "Doña you must excuse Esteban. It's very rude of him to try to scurry you out the backdoor and not invite you to breakfast. Esteban, would you like to explain?" Favorite spot to spend time?

Eleteo: I would think in the palace gardens, the place where the fountain is. They would sit on the edge or on the grass, taking in the sun and nature. Often times they would lie down together talking quietly and even though people can come in anytime they don't notice since they're pretty lost in their conversations. If they want more privacy they go to the gazebo usually at sunset/ nighttime. The gazebo holds special memories for them since that's where Elena first inspired him to believe in the magic within. And yes, she often regals him with other songs too. Gabenaomi: The docks, specifically the dock shed. Even though they are supposed to be working, transporting boxes from ships to shore or vice verse, they end up sitting down and talking more than anything. Naomi, usually tells stories about her travels while Gabe shows off his muscles. Also they people watch and often try to impersonate them for their own amusement. Gababel: It would be the library. Sitting close together on a love chair as Gabe watches her face light up with excitement or softly look at him as they talk about their day or she reads a science book while Isabel enjoys being snuggled by the man she loves and sneaking kisses. It feels so private there. Alonsonaomi: It would actually be in the park because although Alonso tried to show her to all the romantic spots like the beach and the royal gazebo or the fireplace, Naomi nixed it as maybe another one of his ploys. The park was nice because of the strolls and it was surprisingly not very populated. Alonso was pretty genuine when he was not trying to live up to his lover boy hype. Estoma: The fireplace. It's a public room, but they lock the doors sometimes when they want unlimited private time. Usually they just sit and talk about their day and read. It takes a while to get their defenses down but eventually they start spending most of kissing and cuddling. Favorite date night activity Eleteo: Dancing, I know it's very very cliche. But they do love to dance together. It has all the pulse and energy and rhythm that Elena thrives on, the intimacy of slow dances where they are able to talk quietly with each other and also the physical touch. Always moving as one. Gabenaomi: They enjoy sailing or hiking, something fast paced to get their adrenaline pumping at first. Plus it's an excellent conversation starter. They enjoy making new memories and though it seems like the same old same old, there is always some new hi jinks they get into while they are together and can laugh about it afterwards. Gababel: They would enjoy a quiet dinner and some cuddling as a way of connecting after a long day and so they could pay attention to each other face to face without any fuss. They enough hectic was already, their dates are more to enjoy the other's company and tell about their days. Maybe an archeological dig if they're feeling restless (yes it was inspired by lovelyrugabee' drawing!!) Alonsaomi: Similar to the Eleto one, dancing but more in a clubbing style way. Jumping from place to place, arms sound each other, trying a variety of foods and platters. Plus they are actually quiet attentive to old timers' telling ancient tales at the bar or some new stand up comedy act. Estoma: The theater or theatre if we're gonna be fancy about it. They just seem like the type. Movie that reminds me of them? Eleteo: Princess Bride: Okay so a girl falls in love with guy but then guy goes seeks to find fortune so he could provide for her. Five years later, she relunctantly accepts that he may be dead and get bethrothed to a prince. But he returns and so they must fight against the prince's forces who still want her on the throne. Also thought of The Vow. Esteomi: Prince of Persia: Sands of Time A prince is exiled from the throne by his evil uncle and he must team up with a tough girl who protects the sands of time that sees him as a no-good arrogant prince that wants to mess up fate. Of course, evil uncle has them on the run with various minions trying to kill them. Could also apply to Alonsonaomi, there is not much separate I guess younger!esteban from Alonso. Gabenaomi: Friends with benefits. What starts as a simple arrangement between two best buds turns complicated when they realized they have feelings for each other. Also thought of My best friend's wedding. Gababel: The Notebook. A penniless yet loyal and passionate poet falls for a rich girl who loves him in return but he soon is driven away by their class differences. But he vows to get her back and she, does want him back but is nervous about the consequences as she is about to marry someone everyone else approve of. Also thought of The Bodyguard (simply because of the title) Alonsonaomi: What a woman wants. It's about a chauvinistic man who suddenly gains telepathic powers that only allow him to read women's minds. So of course, he becomes nicer over the course of the story and then falls for the top tough girl at work who's trying to prove herself in a company full of men. Esteoma: A classic Pride and Prejudice where the distant yet handsome rich boy insults the high spirited lady who sees herself as a personality-expert. Or It's A boy/girl thing where the two sworn enemies switch bodies and try to wreck havoc in the other's lives. Whose more adventurous?

Eleteo: Elena would be the adventurous one who always to go try sky-diving or parasailing or jet skiing. Mateo would be very hesitant at first but he can never say no to her winning smile. Besides she never pushes him too hard to push his boundaries, she just thinks it would a fun rush to experience together. Gabenaomi: Gabe would mention extreme sports first as a way to start body building again, and Naomi would take it on to another level. She lives for new experiences and Gabe eagerly follows along. They often try to outdo each other with more extreme sports. So far, the favorite has been mountain bike riding. Gababel: Gabe suggests them but Isabel is a "no way" all the way. She may settle for some extremes like motor-biking across sand dunes but others she will not stand for. Her overactive brain starts imaging all the things that could go wrong using physics. Alonsaomi: Alonso suggests extreme sports and like in Gabenaomi, Naomi follows along with ideas of her own. The difference is that Naomi is more preferential to extreme sea sports and Alonso is a fan of air so they often have special dates to aks turns as a fav to the other. Esteomi: Naomi is the one who suggests extreme sports to the more sheltered Esteban and he, like Mateo, needs some convincing since he won't be in total control of these situations like in other exciting events. But he then starts to take like a duck to water, a slow one though. Esteoma: Esteban would suggest extreme sports, Doña would be a no way. So sue her for liking the safer and more luxurious parts of life. Getting a pet?

Eleteo: I think a cat. The cat would fit with Elena's more cuddly nature and can be quite mischevious. It would also be quiet enough as not to disturb Mateo in his workshop expect for an occasional knocking of potions. They did have a few tense arguments because Elena was in favor of a dog and Mateo wanted that cat. But the day a stray came to their doorstep, Elena converted.

Then again, they are sooo busy with their lives but could Flo count as a pet? I also imagine that when they have kids, the question gets brought up again. The kids really want a dog so they get an energetic, friendly one. The breed would probably be the same as the dog statues in Royal Rivalry. Gabenaomi: A dog. Fun, playful and perfect for it's owner energetic athleticism. They all go to the park to play fetch and collapse around in excitement. Not much fighting here though, they were pretty much in agreement. The dog is treated as another child except when it chews up one of Mateo’s spellbooks or pens. Then it’s up to the parents to clean up, of course. Mateo also gets his own personal horse to join with Canella in the royal stables. Gababel: I was gonna say a jaquin but they are their own sentient beings so no. A cat and a dog. They couldn't agree because though Gabe usually succumbs to the Flores puppy dog face, not this time. But they found a cute little dog/cat pair that grew up together and in a similar fashion as their owners the dog loves and protects the cat, and the cat nuzzles against the dog constantly. I also think they’d keep the hamsters that Isa had in Science Unfair. Not only for safe, animal friendly experiments but they’re just so darn cute and easy to carry around. It’s surprsingly engaging to watch them run around their little tack. Isa and Gabe both have their own horses as well. Can’t leave Fuego out. Although Isabel isn’t much of a riding fan, she joins them too.

Estenaomi: They got a parrot, there cannot be a ship without a parrot at least according to Esteban’s adventure fantasies. They got a blue macaw parrot and he is the most ornery, cursing bird ever. No kind word to anyone but Esteban and Naomi liked him anyway. They also briefly had a monkey. Imagine the one from the Pirates of the Carribean movie, but he was disruptive and had this habit of flowing plants at Esteban as if he knew his pet peeve of them. Esteoma: Esteban was against getting a pet simply because they already have enough responsibilities. She wanted a horse. He argued they couldn't share a horse. She bought a mustang anyway and joins Valiente on rides. The only other pet I could imagine is some stray cat that goes in and out of the palace and particularly likes to nest on Esteban’s coats if he leaves it lying on his bed.

Wedding and Baby hcs

Where do they propose?

Eleteo: I'm way too influenced by fic but probably by the balcony or fountain or some secluded spot in the palace where they can get away from the crowd for awhile so Mateo can get down on one knee under the stars.

Gababel: I think it would be on some observatory and they'd be looking at the stars, saying that it only heightens her beauty to him. Or on some rooftop where they can see everything but all they want is each other.

Estenaomi: If I'm going to continue with my drunk wedding hc, there wasn't much of one. But if they were sober, it would be on the beach at one of the many spots they're visiting right by the ocean Naomi loves.

Estoma: Esteban's office aka the exact spot where they first met. It has all the memories and private intimacy and history wrapped in one place. It's where it all began even though they had no idea how much they'd end up meaning to each other.

What do they talk about after the engagement?

Eleteo: Basically wedding plans but they also addressed their concerns like Mateo's insecurity about being a good royal consort, if others will feel threatened with a wizard on the throne after Shuriki's reign of evil? Elena talks about her concern with spacing time between duty and time with him and what will happen if the two collide or she's forced to choose between the safety of her kingdom or safety of him?

Gababel: They also have similar talks as above but less high stakes and more like dealing with Gabe being gone on long stretches of time, the fact they will inevitably have to deal with his PTSD as well as Isabel's own ambitions in the STEM world and making sure Gabe doesn't feel intellectually inferior.

Estenaomi: they didn't have much of an engagement so it's more like a post-marriage talk where they work out the necessary details like how to tell others, what exact changes it will bring, does this speed up their timeline of kids, split of duties etc.

Estoma:They mainly talk about every bit of their pasts like Esteban explaining those feelings of grief about his parents' death, his isolation, resentment, etc. that led to his betrayal and the lingering feeling of guilt that make him feel he doesn't deserve love again. While Dona reveals osme fragments of her past to him before, it's all out in the open now.

Who brags about the wedding? Eleteo: Neither. They're both just thrilled to be married to one another. Plus it's hard to brag when you know NO ONE will ever have a wedding like theirs full of magic AND royalty. Though Elena might bring it up a bit when Vals' bragging gets too much.

Gababel: I think Isabel would only in response to Val or someone. After all the ceremony is just a getting the chance to declare their love in front of family and friends as they're bonded forever. She doesn't brag but she does enjoy talking about that wonderful day. Estenaomi: Esteban. Totally Esteban though it's more like bragging about how great his wife is, not that Naomi minds it at all.

Estoma: Dona. Even though it was a smaller, more refined affair, she embellishes some details when telling people who missed the event a la Rachel Green---- "And my veil was lace, made by blind Belgian nuns." "Blind?"

"Well not at first but it was very intricate work and they said even though they lost their sight, it was all worth it."

Who is the micromanager of the wedding?

Eleteo: Neither. Well, Elena has more say in the wedding because, hello it is her wedding and she wants it to reflect her sense of style. Mateo puts complete faith in Elena because he knows that she has both of their best interests at heart and that she knows him as well as she knows herself. Besides, once he put his trust in her on a horse or a jaquin or fighting evil wizards. A wedding is no big deal.

Alonsonaomi: Naomi is. And to be honest, it was kind of a mistake. Elena knew how crazy Naomi gets planning things to the last detail. Her own wedding was no exception. It was bad for the poor poor Cordoban servants that had to follow her instructions to the most minute detail. Even worse if they messed up. Alonso tried to take some responsibilites off her but it was like fighting with a wolverine over food. She would not let go of the planning. Gababel: Isabel does it because Gabe doesn't have much experience with royal weddings and how they should be done. Besides he doesn't put much effort into things like curtain colors or seating placements while Isabel's analytical mind is all over it, calculating how much food they need and the body heat index combined with air conditioning. She's almost having a blast. Estoma; Esteban. Any event he plans has to be the event of the year in his mind. Or even the decade. The fact that it was his own wedding might have amped up the pressure a tiny bit.

Garter hcs because I thought it was a fun tradition

Eleteo: You already described it very well. But I imagine that as Mateo said, they should do it again. And so they do! Especially during their first honeymoon. Elena gathers many many garters which she puts, teasing Mateo to get to them. At first it's at simple places like her wrist but then she tests the bounds more and more until Mateo can no longer resist what she wants. Not that he doesn't want it just as much. Gababel: Isabel was super nervous about this tradition because people watching as Gabe ack! It was enough that she was already anxious about the coming honeymoon and "the deed" as you said. Gabe assured her that she didn't have to do it but with a little nudging from Elena she did. Gabe made sure to do it quickly though. He would save the teasing loving stuff for later.

Gabenaomi: They took full heart to the tradition with Naomi's mischevious and Gabe wanting to impress. How so? Naomi with many remarks that she thought were guaranteed to take make him lose focus and Gabe by trying to do the fastest time while keeping Naomi on edge. They really had fun with it.

Alonsonaomi: Ah gah! Alonso was only way too happy with this one. Although up till now, Naomi tried to remain professional with Alonso but he really shaped up and showed his love. Now his Casanova was coming out a little bit. So the day of the wedding, imagine Alonso's shock when he couldn't find the garter. Only to be told it was on her other leg with a wink from Naomi—Still keeping him on his toes. Estenaomi: Like you said, their marriage would be very spontaneous and rushed and they don't have any of the necessary garters. No fear, they make do with some rope. Until Esteban who doesn't particularly want to grab rope with his teeth suggests they skip the rope and the garter and starts kissing her down her leg.... Estoma: Esteban was completely against it— it was foolish and inappropriate. They others ragged on him saying he had to do it but they were starting to think it wouldn't happen. Until Doña riled him up and challenged him to get the garter while her legs were firmly crossed. Esteban rose to the challenge.

Wedding hc

Eleteo; the one song I always think of when it comes to the wedding is "LA vie en rose" from Breakfast at Tiffany's. Go watch it if you haven't heard of it. Gababel: Gabe's parents made most of the food for their wedding. It's just a given. But the big wedding cake was Gabe's speciality because he had a vision for it. Isabel insisted on helping too since he couldn't do the three large layers alone. It then turned to a family affair with everyone pitching in to help. The cake turns out to be an extravagant creation with a special touch from each piled with flowers and sugar marzipan figurines. Isabel loves the cake because she feels it represents the new family they have together full of heart and love and togetherness.

Estenaomi: Well their wedding was an elopement. Luisa insisted on having another since she wanted to see her only grandson married with her own eyes. Naomi raises the challenge. If they want to experience their wedding, they'll experience it as it was, in less than two hours. So it's a mad dash through Avalor as the palace staff and family try to get a wedding dress, suitable decorations etc. and a priest on short notice. They do, in part because no one wanted to piss off Luisa. The wedding was short and sweet with an added surprise. Esteban and Naomi were able to create short vows while everyone scrambled around.

Gabenaomi: The wedding is very laid back but the bachelor/bachelorette that took place before it were a wild time Elena took her role as maid of honor very seriously and wanted to give Naomi a night she would never forget. Their was a pool, there was a stripper, there was many drinks and all that fun stuff. Luisa had plenty of stories to tell the girls lol. Mateo's party was a little less wild but still fun as they had all the guards together no thought of some pretty creative ideas of how to end the last night of Gabe's bachelorhood. But near the end of the night, both sneaked off to Naomi's ship taking in the sunrise together before they head off to their wedding.

Estoma: I'll do an engagement one since you haven't. So it's post dinner, Esteban leads her to his office and shows her some constellations. Surprised, she remarks she's never noticed the view from that window. Esteban coolly comments that they've always been at work here and to think that it was ? years ago that this was where they first met. It was amazing how far they've come. And if they knew what they knew now, would they have changed what they first said to each other.

Doña considers, "No I wouldn't have. You still needed to be taken down a peg back then. Besides, it wouldn't have changed a thing. I think we would still have found a way to be together. After all the scheming and the deals and the fixing problems because of your foolishness."

“My foolishness?! What about yours?" "I was being perfectly rational. It is your foolishness that made you think I was being.."

Esteban: "Fine— but your arrogance caused most of the problems." Doña: "I'm less arrogant than you."

Esteban: "Oh really? What about the time....nevermind. Do you want to know what I would have said if I knew then what we would end up going through together?"

Doña: "Oh what?"

Esteban bends down on one knee and pulls out a ring, "Will you marry me? Who cries at the wedding vows?

Eleteo: Elena does but it's silent tears of happiness and joy. It is still sometimes difficult for her to talk about her time in the amulet before all this happened but also that overwhelming feeling of her wedding day, that thus forever with him by her side, proclaiming he loves her her strengths and to be there if she falters is just wow.

Gababel: Isabel does. She got really into writing her vows and how Gabe makes her feel safe and how he has always been by her since she was little until they've grown to where they are now. And because he sees her crying, Gabe nearly starts too.

Estenaomi: Neither. Both are pretty confident in their marriage and each other so any heartfelt vows would be marred by the other making a joke on the side so no waterfalls here.

Estoma: Both and neither. By that I mean, tears do start welling up during their vows but their deep sense of reputation won't allow them to spill over in public.

Who smashes cake in the face?

Eleteo: Elena and Mateo do the same because Elena is mischievous and that is totally some things he'd do and Mateo knows that so he tries to do it first.

Gababel: Isabel does. She is so unassuming and Gabe is so taken with her that cake in the face is the last thing he's expecting from her. So when he reaches up to him, he expects a kiss and then there's frosting. But he feels totally at liberty to get her back. Estenaomi: I think it would also happen at the same time. They like to joke and tease each other so cake in the face would totally be fair. Though I think Naomi is more likely as Esteban spends a lot of time on his appearance that day and Naomi doesn't care one bit.

Estoma: Esteban is more likely to let himself go and do something like that but he also knows Dona would be furious with him messing up all her hair and makeup.

What did they do after they got married?

Eleteo: Once they walked out the hall just before the ceremony there was a lot of swinging around and kissing and surprisingly silence as they took each other and the moment in. They did it. After all the drama and dangers, they got a perfect happily ever after. Then they kissed which was promptly ruined by Luisa, Naomi and Isabel reminding Elena she had to change. But once they got on their honeymoon they got to kiss again and again and yet again.

Gababel: Once they left the crowd and crossed the threshold of their honeymoon suite they actually did a kinda adorkable happy dance. They were married to their best friend and soulmate. And after their little dance, Gabe picked Isabel up again and started to spend the rest of their lives together.

Estenaomi: Well let's say the day after they made their impulsive not sober marriage they got over their hangovers and realized what happened. At first it was a bit awkward, saying they could always have it annulled but then it led to their talk that yes, they did themselves heading for marriage. They weren't so horrified that they were currently married. They did want to spend their lives together anyway. So they started a second celebration to their decision that they were going to stay married.

Estoma: After the ceremony and before the reception party, they took a moment to repeat their vows in private because they were trying too hard not to cry in public and kinda missed it as it was being said. As you can imagine, it was much better the second time with their undivided attention and maybe some choked up moments.

Pregnancy hc

Eleteo: Elena has some wacky pregnancy cravings that were none too appetizing for the rest of the palace to watch her eat. Gababel: The first few times Isabel felt the baby kick, she was nervous but also over the moon. Estenaomi: Naomi had very intense mood swings and by intense I mean she was tired and frustrated the entire time because Naomi hated being tied down and not being allowed to do the work she was perfectly capable of, thank you very much. Estoma: (This is some AU assumption that she's young enough to have kids) She got super sentimental whenever kids were around. Resulting in friends trick or treat. Them as parents?

Eleteo: Mateo and Elena would make lovely parents. they're fun and would make sure the kids know that they're loved and able to do whatever they want. Though there is some trouble resisting their puppy eyes. Luckily for them, their kids inherited their helping, kind natures so they aren't into too much mischief.

Gababel: They both adore their kids but also take turns being the disciplinarian because again, one of them has to step up when the other is under the sway of the darn Flores inherited puppy eyes. But overall, Gabe is the fun, athletic dad who takes his kids to the park while Isabel always helps with homework and teaching them how to read.

Estenaomi: I feel Esteban would be the one who is so enamoured with the kid that he'd just believe that they can do no wrong. Naomi is sometimes sucked in, she is also very aware of their kid's tricks and won't be swayed easily. They are totally the adventurous family though and aren't above ditch days.

Estoma: Unshockingly, they would spoil their kids. Like Alonso-level spoiled. Everything the kid is, is beautiful, talented, a genius etc. I will say the children aren't as lazy as Alonso at least. Esteban would want to make sure they wouldn't make the same mistakes as he did having too much time on his hands.

Who sings the kid to sleep during the thunderstorm?

Eleteo: They both do but mainly Elena.

Gababel: Gabe does, being the big protector that he is, he goes to the kids straightaway and has a surprisingly sweet alto voice that is very calming. Sometimes Isabel follows just to watch Gabe work his charm with her favorite cherubs.

Estenaomi: I feel Naomi would because I see Esteban as a deep sleeper so Naomi would be more likely to actually wake up and go sing to the child. Estoma: Again, Dona because Esteban sleeps like a rock. But sometimes she brings the child to bed with them and wakes up Esteban so he can sing the Avaloran lullaby.

Who is the doting parent? Eleteo: Both! Both in their own ways. Elena just can't help but fall for her own children's puppy dog face as her husband does. They love them. So together they scourge up the strength to say no sometimes. But Mateo can be more strict when it comes to them in his workshop and trying to tamper with magic, that can't be allowed. As they both know, it can have disasterous consequences. Alonsaomi: Naomi is. She is level headed but then her child comes and everything s/he does is absolutely amazing and wonderful. Alonso thinks the same because hey, it is his kid, he has inherited good looks and suave personality but that also means he can anticipate his tricks. Gabenaomi: Gabe, Gabe's children have him wrapped around his/her finger. We all know he is a big softie so it's not much of a leap. Gababel: Gabe is still the doting one. Blame it on being an only child, he thinks they should be lavished with all the love and attention and protection even if it can get overbearing.

Shakespeare Au

Eleteo: Midsummer's Night Dream or Anthony and Cleopatra. They would be the perfect Lysander and Hermia with their sweetness to scan other and such a tight bond between them despite the magical hijinks. If they did an Elena version, Mateo would defiantly have to help. Anthony and Cleopatra because even though it's a bit of political scandal and such I think it fits their older life together because they would be each other's closets allies in a world of intrigue and people trying to bring them down. I guess it's similar to your own story Magic Transcends. Gabenaomi: Much ado about nothing or Othello- Much ado about Nothing simply starts with the stubbornness they both have and that I feel there would be a stasis between them questioning what their feelings are. Also that scene where Beatrice tells Benedick to kill for her, I feel Gabe would do a similar thing for Naomi. Manly honor for the lady and all. Othello would be when they have a good relationship and are mutually in love even though Gabe might feel sometimes jealous of how others find Naomi charming. I imagine he would not go into mudererous rage though as Othello did. Gababel: Romeo and Juliet or As you like it First off they would not kill themselves in the end because c'mon! They are much too smart for that! I feel like their relationship once it gets going would be very sweet and just full of firsts and bliss like Romeo and Juliet. As you like it fits more because Rosalind is similar to Isabel. She analyzes her feelings, her suitor and slowly comes to realize what she is feeling is love. A scientific lady as you can see. I think what fist the most would be Rosalind's monologue of how love is merely madness. Also no one dies for love so that helps. Luisa and Francisco: McBeth- No no no I'm not saying they would be muderous overthrowers but I'm more focused on the spirit of the Mcbeths relationship. The essence that they both have been married for so long and that they are a true team. They may doubt each other but they carry on through as they have all the years before. Also the dynamic is a bit similar with the women being "rah rah let's get em" and bit more pacifist male. Estoma: Taming of the Shrew or Much Ado about Nothing- Esteban and Doña Paloma. Yes, the bickering couples and the use of the whole cast and play to get them together fits their stubborn, arrogant personalities. What scene reminds me the most of them is the scene of the Much Ado about Nothing movie with Emma Thompson.

Raul and Esteban's father had a guys night once. It was pretty awkward. Lots of silence. They didn't have a lot in common as the Flores sisters thought they would.

Elena was pretty frustrated about her guitar playing at first but then she got the hang of it so Lucia, Francisco and her would make sing-alongs.

Isabel's first "invention" was switching her baby rattle handle with a stick.

Elena's middle name is Valencia meaning brave.

Isabel's Grizelda which is patience. But she doesn't really like it.

Esteban's Alberto which roughly means one with the crown. Yes, I feel so clever with that one.

Scarlet and Daniel met when Scarlet's boat was set adrift during a storm, and Daniel's crew was sent to rescue it. Daniel demanded to see the captain that was foolish enough to steer the ship, then Scarlet yelled at him, saying he shouldn't judge since she had never seen such slow sailing in her life. They got better.

Esteban is actually pretty talented at writing haikus after spending that time in Satu.

Mateo used to have a stuffed straw doll of a magic wand that his father made. Rafa thinks that combined with his grandfather's skills made him take the path to wizardry.

Elena's years in the amulet made her a little claustrophobic. If she is in the dark and alone for too long, she starts freaking out that she is trapped in the amulet again.

Luisa was the one with the sports skills in the family,ollaball, fencing, running and such while Francisco had more artistic pursuits like guitar.

Guitar was actually how he proposed to her. He told her to fetch it, and she found the ring in it's strings. He then proceeded to do a song proposal.

Isabel's first word was "jaquin"

When Lucia fenced, Raul was that guy with a huge sign cheering her on. Yes, with a trumpet fanfare every time she won a round.

Elena had a strong dislike of bananas for a time until Lucia sprinkled them with sugar.
