Alright bestie, I'm here to ask what the fuck cotn novella ACTUALLY IS!! Is it a spin-off? A one-shot? A few one-shots? A short fic? SPILL THE TEA!!!!!!!

ok ok ok so here's the tea:

so call of the night 3 (also titled: 'friends with the fire') is going to be, obviously, the third but also final installment in the whole cotn series. it's a fucking wild story that makes call of the night and walk in the dark look very PG and fluffy in comparison. it's... a lot. but even though the angst and melodrama of whole trilogy is kind of one of it's selling points (imo), I felt BAD ABOUT IT!!! I was like "damn, it kind of sucks that they're just getting three sucker punches in a row! just bad event after worse event over and over!!" and then a light bulb went off in my head and I knew what I had to do

so the novella (tentatively titled 'promises/show and tell', but I might just pick one of those or use neither tbh) takes place in between walk in the dark and friends with the fire. I can't remember exact dates but I think it's like 2 years after witd and between 7-9 years before fwtf. of course there are still some angsty elements here and there but it's a two-parter that is really fun and funny and fluffy (I mean it!! genuinely fluffy!!) it's as much of a "slice of life" fic that you'll EVER get out of me probably

I'm really hoping it stays under 25k but knowing me it'll probably be around 50k LMAO. but yes!!!! the novella is next up on the list after I get roots all squared away <3

definitely won't be multiple chapters at once since it's a heavy chapter you're getting and I don't want to hit y'all back to back with some rough stuff, but the next chappy is about 4.2k words! (it'll be out soonish okay I know i'm sooo behind on updates but I promise it'll be soon)

the novella is part of the call of the night series i've been working on for the past kajillion years. I'm currently working on a rewrite of call of the night (because it really needs it) but once I get far enough into that I'm going to tackle the novella. it's a two part story that takes place in between the last two installments, walk in the dark and friends with the fire. its a few years after the end of witd and it's just chock full of absolutely silly plot beats, a continuation of the constant worldbuilding, lots of things I can't include in the final story, and a whole lot of character development that gets skipped over in between witd and fwtf. it's a great time all around, the funniest part of the series by far, but don't worry; it definitely doesn't forget what story is being told.

it's the self-indulgent part of the series and i'm excited to finally finish the outline and then crank it out. fingers crossed I can keep it under 75k. (I'm aiming for 50, max, but we all know how terrible I am at keeping things short.)
