🔶 During this past month I've been working on HEX BREAK, my personal concept art project inspired by isometric styled games such as Darksiders Genesis, Hades and Ruined King and my eternal love for all the kind of spooky, gothic stuff!
🔶When I was finished creating the minions, I asked myself “now, who would be responsible of creating these mischievous little incantations?” and the first thing that came into my mind was a tall and slender femenine figure that emanates power and respect - I had Lady Dimitrescu and Piramid Head in mind, both terrifying but in their own way! So I tried to mix both influences.
🔶 Since this is a universe where witches turn their wands as a weapon, she uses it like a reaper! And of course, the ghostly lookin’ hands around her would prevent her from harm. Because this project is meant to be seen from an isometric perspective, I placed the hands behind her to make it easier from a player’s view where her attacks come from.

Using UV mapping
first i took the UV map of a cube in Maya, selected all the faces on the cube and then exported it
then I imported it into photoshop, made the background black so i could see the lines of the cube and put a design onto the cubes UV map in white
i then exported it and put it back into Maya and added a material to my cube
i then chose lambert as a material
then added a file as my material to create my design.
I then Exported then cube as a FVX file and opened the material
I then added two colours i wanted on my cube, i then added them to a lerp and into the material code.
i then put my cube into my game and scaled it up to size.
I then went on to add more code to my cube adding code to make it glow
i first moved one of the colours just to go into the base colour and then made the material and my second colour multiply together twice
first to change the inner materials colour and the second to make it glow
the higher you multiplied it by the stronger the glow would be
At first i put my cube glow intensity very high but then i changed it down to 200.

i think i first d/l blender in like 2017 nd prolly uninstalled it over 10 times. like 2019 it stuck nd id loved it nd grew so much. i wish i updated this with all the unfinished testers nd wip and j general shit i made (unfinished) a long way. no way am i sorting through a TB of horrid naming conventions. Daily Log #10
Just about done with the environment!
9/25 & 9/26:
Finished mountain and spring rock materials
Finished blocking out the perimeter
Started placing assets
Started placing foliage
Created wind VFX
3D modeled ruins
Once again I forgot to post the daily log on time. This time, it's with two days. Bonus!
So I finally got the mountain and spring rock material finished! It was tricky, since it was my first time making a complex material almost completely from scratch just using concepts I had already learned. In that sense, it was incredibly satisfying, and looks exactly how I wanted it to.
I realize the quality of the material nodes is really bad, but it's mostly more of the same. I might include more detail in tomorrow's weekly post, but we'll see.
I also finished blocking out the perimeter so you can't escape the environment! Well, in theory. There are some spots where you can just barely make it to the other side of the perimeter, so I'm going to be adding some invisible walls to prevent any of that happening in the final version.
Here you can also see the mountains and spring rocks, as well as the ruins! The ruins are just modeled, not sculpted or textured yet, but I just wanted to place them in the environment early for a few reasons: I wanted to make sure the scale was good, make sure I don't make more pieces than I needed, and get a sense of how it will look finished. Luckily I can reuse a few pieces, which means less work for me!
I also placed rock assets around the hot spring and it's looking really good! Made a new material instance for them and everything, which was easy work but really makes the area look better! (And yes, there is a patch of blue grass, that's because of the RVT! I'll be deleting those clumps of grass because I'm too lazy to repaint that part of the landscape)
Another addition: Wind VFX! And let me tell you, I had no clue what the hell I was doing. My intention with this project was to learn as I go and understand how everything works, but I'm excluding the wind FVX from that goal. It involved the UE5 particle system and I know next to nothing about VFX in general, but especially in UE5. This was all done based on a tutorial, but I might not include it because I'm having trouble getting the spawns to look good in my environment.
Like, what's going on?? I'd love to learn this stuff later on, but I'm EXTREMELY busy with this project, and with school in general, so I'm leaving it up to future Lily to figure this all out. Fortunately it only took an hour or so to do, so if I choose not to include it it won't be a huge loss.
Well, that's about it! I'll be working on this as much as I can, but I have some big projects due tomorrow night, so I might be done for the week unfortunately! On the plus side, next week will be pretty easy, so I will have lots of time to just relax and tweak some things. Tomorrow I'll be posting the next weekly update, so I'll see you then!

This month we're dredging into the classic saw: the Vignere cipher.
Letter-substitution ciphers are something we've covered before. They are limited, though. A simple alphabet- or symbol-substitution cipher is vulnerable to frequency attacks, which are analysis where one observes the frequency of a letter or character and compares it to the common frequencies of various languages. The date-shift cipher, which we have covered before, is slightly better in that the letter frequencies will not reflect the original language as easily. The Vignere cipher was another such method of avoiding patterns. Vignere's classic table is one which, across 26 rows and columns, contains 26 alphabets (each bginning with the next letter of the alphabet) and can be used to look up each letter of a message, according to its number in the sequence, and shift it according to one of those 26 corresponding alphabets. Further scrambling can be used such that 'shift' is not even the proper word anymore. The classic vignere, however, is not quite so extreme. A single keyword is chosen (let's use MOTHMAN). This makes our encryption table a little smaller than 26x26. Use this to enipher your message. For the first letter, use the first column under M, then the O column, the T column, etc. until you've enciphered the first 7 letters, then repeat using the seven columns again in sequence. For example: BATTLE CHESS turns into: NOMAXE PTSLZ Messages can be read by referencing their key sequence position, the column that corresponds to that position in the key, and checking the alphabet column on the left. Try this:
