Probably character voice? Dialogue and narration. I slip on US/UK terms sometimes but in terms of the characters sounding/feeling like themselves, that's probably it.

Any variation on "I will follow you into any trope/pairing/kink/premise even if it's not something I'd normally seek out because I trust you as a writer". INCREDIBLY flattering.

sometimes they come to me in a dream (literally), usually I'm inspired by movies / tv and songs! currently all the active wips are movie AUs bc i love a rom com / romance movie :) some of my wips are tv show AUs...i would like to write something more original later though!

Alex is gentle. He holds the hands of those in desperate situations, caressing their shaking hands, consoling them in times of need, standing up for what's right and true in his world. He gives his time, his energy, his love, his care—all in the name of servitude, taking so little in return. He is endlessly transparent, every emotion written all over his face in technicolor. He is the sun, and looking at him makes the blindness worth it.

27. What area of writing do you feel strongest in?

i personally love writing banter / dialogue!!! it feels very rom-com movie-esque to me and i love a zippy back-and-forth. but i also like writing passages with melancholy / anxiety, i just pull from my own brain there ajfskljaslkf.

so actually I'm not sure, but i feel strongest in my dialogue, I'd say. for now! but if anyone has other thoughts about this then please share lol i struggle with perceiving my own work/worth sometimes.

72. What’s your favorite writing compliment you’ve gotten?

omg. anytime someone says worm fic made them laugh like a maniac / cry tears of laughter, it brings me such joy!! that and any and all characterization compliments are really just so lovely. it's always nice to hear that your words feel true to a character and story, regardless of the universe you place them in! <3 <3

one that made me really happy was when i sent a snippet to @anincompletelist and she said my writing felt bouncier last week because i was happier LMAO that was a real eye-opener for me!! <3

I have to ask, in "I only want what I can't have," is Henry actually an alpha or was he just lied to? Because not experiencing a rut ... hm

in i only want what i can’t have Henry’s secondary sex is something completely out of his control

it doesn’t help that he was set to present right around the time his dad died so when the firm suggested he go on suppressants before he even presented he agreed bc he couldn’t bear to have anything else weighing him down at that point in time

plus the only ppl who would have maybe sent him on a nice holiday to Wales to ride out his rut (or heat) were Catherine and Arthur and any plans for that died with his dad

basically he only understands that part of himself through medical terminology and fantasy. Unlike Alex his alpha is basically dormant, like he never went through second puberty at all… I guess in some ways he’s living like a beta.

It is an undisputed fact of life on the Georgetown campus that Alex Claremont Diaz has a pair of lips and he knows exactly how to use them. Henry Fox, the ex-facto roommate extraordinaire of the “most kissable lips on campus” is entirely aware of just how good of a kisser Alex is. Not through any experience of his own as much as he hates to say it. No. Alex, his dear, sweet, delusional roommate of three years, has a kiss list. A color coded rank and file excel sheet with coding more complex than what it took to get the first mission to mars up and running. Henry can’t pretend to understand it when Alex comes back into the room giddy as all get out and pulls up the file. He has had a shotgun seat to the rollercoaster that has been Alex’s kissing conundrum over the last few semesters on campus.

“Thank you,” Henry gasps as Alex shifts forward between his legs, reclaiming a space inside of Henry that only Alex has traversed before. “Thank you. Thank you—” 

“Stop it,” Alex grits, dropping to his forearms to press his temple to Henry’s. “Stop fucking thanking me for something that I was fucking made to do.” He swallows back his own tears and holds his breath until he’s fully seated, the both of them sharing a wordless exhale. 

Alex hates how much it still feels like home. Wants to take a sledgehammer to the walls and board up the windows all at once. Get out with Henry in tow; never leave. 

“Just— just—” Alex huffs, his fingers curling into the sheets beside Henry’s head. The familiar words come too easily, a language millions have now read and picked apart but only he and Henry understand. “Take what you need and know you deserve to have it, yeah?”

WIP Wednesday (and Last Line Tag)

Hi! Since the last time I posted I got an awful cold, traveled to visit friends, and toured a law school while I was there. So basically, that's why I haven't participated in the last few games and things BUT THAT CHANGES TODAY. Thanks for the tags below!

Needed a brain break from Daddy Issues, so finally wrote the Leo Chapter from my fic that's Outsiders POV of RWRB (Shades of Bougainvillea if you remember). This is also my last line, so it fulfills that tag too:

With June turning down the campaign job, and Alex still working through his penultimate semester of undergrad, not much changes in the Claremont White House over the course of autumn months. Mostly, everything’s as busy and bustling as it ever is, and Leo does his best to support everyone as best he can. He does, however, take note of a specific trend as he observes his step-children across the breakfast table. Alex has always had his phone attached to his hand, but recently it’s led to fewer impassioned rants about right-wing tweets, and more grins followed by rapid typing. He doesn’t think it’s Nora, either—more than once he’s witnessed this phenomenon occur while Nora’s sitting at Alex’s side, mid-conversation with June. Which means that Alex is talking to someone else other than June and Nora. Leo can’t help but grin into his coffee mug. He likes that someone besides the two of them can draw that smile from Alex; he hopes that maybe he can meet whoever it is one day.

Spicy/sweet/savoury: You want me, a pansexual with anxiety who's constantly thinking about what to eat next, to choose??? Insanity. But I will say that my cravings largely depend on my mood and/or my menstrual cycle.

Current obsession: My rwrb (book, fanfic, film, cast, interviews, edits) obsession is a year old now but it's also still very current. And while I wouldn't use the word "obsessed", recently I have been quite besotted with sushi, strength training at the gym, finding a lavender dress with yellow daisy prints that exists in my head but not irl apparently, and, for a mad couple of months, Sabrina Carpenter's Espresso.

Relationship status: I've been flying solo for a while now

Who wants more Big Giant AU? I guess the first thing I should say is that the Big Giant AU now officially has an Actual Title and 45k words, so I threw together a banner for it -- the banner, the title reveal, and this Sunday's six sentences are behind the jump! (Still have no idea when this WIP will be done though, so... uhhh... sorry?)

First, for the big reveal: the Big Giant AU (AKA KHIX, AKA King Henry IX)'s title is... Facing Tempests! And yes, I lifted the title directly from the lyrics of the song I'd previously designated as the theme for said AU. Here's my lil' banner, which you'll see again in approximately (indistinguishable mumble) when I finally start posting this sucker. I'm gonna keep using #wip: khix as a tag on Tumblr for fic meme purposes, just to keep things organized. 🤣

On to the snippet!

When Alex was in seventh grade, he joined an intramural soccer team coached by the dads of two of his classmates. He played right midfielder for the first half of the season, and then the kid that the coaches had routinely put in as striker got the flu and had to sit out for two weeks, so they pulled Alex in as a substitute striker in the interim. Alex scored so many goals during that two-week period that the coaches made him the striker permanently. The next Saturday after the game, while all the players’ parents were still catching up, McKinleigh Slater, who played left wing, took Alex by the hand, then led him behind the equipment shed and kissed him. Alex has kissed his fair share of people between seventh grade and now. He’s had all manner of kisses: good and bad, soft and hungry, lingering, awkward, and sloppy, kisses that led to relationships and kisses that led to one-night stands, kisses in bathrooms and bedrooms and cars, kisses that have meant absolutely nothing... and kisses that have absolutely flipped his world on its axis.

Alex reaches down and snatches the vodka. He takes a long drink and then shoves the bottle back at Pez. “Yeah we’re not going to the club,” he tells Pez with a little nod.

“Of course not, he’s like if Bea had a baby with a Fembot.”

“I don’t think I look like Bea, for the record,” Henry protests. He looks at Alex for support, his mouth open in shock when Alex won’t look him in the eye. “Alex!”

2. Album of the year?

Like my song of the year answer, limiting this to albums that were RELEASED in 2023 cuts out a lot of my big listens.

Like… does the Barbie movie soundtrack count? Because that went hard.

7. Favorite actor of the year?

Let me tell y’all a story.

So I, like, actively did not pay attention to the RWRB film casting or in fact any details about it, because I am inherently suspicious of any film adaptions of my faves—which meant that the first time I knew who was starring was when those little teaser clips were dropped in the days leading up to the trailer. And I watched those and was like “oh I’ve seen the guy playing Henry in some stuff” and didn’t really think much more of it. And then the trailer came out and I was like “oh shit I think I’m actually going to enjoy this” and then I kind of dove in and, amongst other things, learned what “that guy playing Henry”’s name is. Genuinely do not think I ever had that information in my head, I don’t pay much attention to film credits.

And THEN the film came out and both leads did such a great job, and so I finally did what we all do and went on a Wikipedia deep dive. And I was scrolling through Nick’s filmography like “seen that, seen that, seen… that…” and soon learned that despite not knowing his name until July 2023, or realising I was doing it, I’ve seen everything he’s ever been in. Just one of those weird perfect Venn diagram overlaps between the roles he’s taken and the sorts of things I watch.

So, I’m not good with favourites generally because they change from hour to hour, but for this question let’s say Nicholas Galitzine, a man whose career I have been following far more closely than even I intended 😂

WIP WEDNESDAY

my dearest little eggs, today I have a small snippet of Sweater Weather, which is my @aroyallybigbangrwrb fic this year!!

Childhood friends to long distance fake but not really lovers over letters ;)) just what we need (oh and it’s a college sports au too)

He has spent a great deal of time recently doing just that. Sometimes, like now, when the dying grass waves golden in the August afternoon, and the cicadas hum the soft melody that only comes around every seventeen years, Alex can’t ignore the flip-flop of his stomach and the way the sunshine seems to sit atop Henry’s head like a halo.

“Shut up, man” is all Alex can eek out. It doesn’t matter though, because Henry smiles, shaking his head, walking forward to drag Alex into a hug.

He knows it isn’t a permanent goodbye, but just one for now. He is reminded of Winnie the Pooh and the emotional turmoil of the line “How lucky am I to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.” He knows Henry would appreciate the sentiment as a sap, but he isn’t about to slice the heart on his sleeve clean off to present it on a platter for intimate dissection.

Alex doesn’t look all that much different even a couple of years later, still just as paradoxical as he’s always been— fearlessly confident and yet frenetically, undeniably unsettled. Pez had made a joke once that being around Alex was like touching static electricity, hair standing on end and shocks dancing along fingertips. Henry, for all his distaste, might be inclined to agree. 

He watches as Alex strikes up a conversation with a pretty blonde woman at the bar beside him, can make out the curve of his grin and just barely hear the tones of his laugh from across the room. For a few minutes it seems like things are going well, but then the woman shakes her head with a muted smile and backs away, eventually disappearing into another group on the other side of the floor. 

Henry’s second drink is empty by the time two others have come and gone, a taller man that Alex had approached himself and another person who’d come up to him to chat afterward. Despite Alex actively engaging in the conversations, Henry watches each of them leave after a few minutes like clockwork, glances down at his own wrist and knows the feeling. 

After the third person excuses themselves, the confident line of Alex’s shoulders gradually begins to fade, curling in on himself just a little as he stirs the ice around in his drink with his straw. He’s raising it to his mouth, about to take a sip when he glances up to scan the room again and his eyes finally land on Henry. 

He pauses, his mouth split open and drink still hovering in front of him as his cheeks and the sides of his neck darken lightly. Henry doesn’t look away. Alex does though, and he furrows a brow at the floor as if warring with himself before his eyes flick back up again, questioning. 

Henry doesn’t break the contact as he steps sideways and slides into an unoccupied velvet, half-circled booth, the seat opposite him noticeably vacant. Alex’s chest rises and falls again as he takes yet another steadying breath, squeezes his eyes shut, then spins and marches over, crossing the floor and dropping down across from Henry sans the welcoming smile he'd offered everyone else.

“Alex,” Henry says in greeting. 

He blinks, grumbling. “Henry.” 

Clearing his throat, Henry leans back and spreads his knees just a bit underneath the table, leaving his wrist out openly on the table between them beside his drink. It’s obvious when Alex tries not to look, even more so when he does, the column of his throat shifting in the low light. 

Then, carefully, Alex draws one hand out of his own lap to rest it at the edge of the table, the angle drawing his sleeve up just enough to expose the bands he’s chosen. 

Alpha, which Henry’d been expecting, and Submissive, which he very much had not.
