Happy Miko Futo Day

I offer 2 aimlessly offensive and relatively undiscovered Futo Video highly inspired by the famous Crap-posts of Touhou meme crap-poster Ciryes. (Not directionally offensive, they just throw words around at random, as is typical of crap-posts)

How I feel about this character

You know how I feel! Probably my favourite character, or at least always floating around number one spot. She’s unashamedly wicked, but also fun and charming in her own way. She’s determined to live her best life forever and also helping the people she cares about (prestigious company!) to live their best lives forever too. I’ll try to sum up all snappily: I love her a lot, unfortunately!

All the people I ship romantically with this character 

Are we talking like ship as in “ive put a lot of thought into her potential romances” or ship as in “just name anyone and everyone i’ve ever thought it would be nice for them to kiss”? Since I’m trying to not drag these out, I’ll go with the latter...

Obvious close connections that spring into something bigger: Miko (they bring out each other’s best and worst qualities), Tojiko (incredibly spicy), Yoshika (when she was alive! then tragedy struck...).

Fateful encounters that stick forever: Kaguya (you did this to me), and Marisa. The latter isn’t something I’ve thought about more than “its be kinda funny if they bothered each other a whole bunch for a while, and got semi-attached”.

My non-romantic OTP for this character

Among all the taoists, her relationship with Futo is by far the funniest and the dramaless. Whatever respect or reverence Futo might have had for Seiga has since transformed into treating her like a quirky familial buddy who does the occasional crime but that just means she’s flawed like the rest of them. Meanwhile Seiga finds Futo bewildering more often than not and gets irritated whenever Futo implies they’re both equals under Miko, but wouldn’t change a thing about her.

Honourabe mention goes to their back-and-forths with myouren crew leading to Byakuren thinking Seiga is a complicated soul in need of a friend, and driving Seiga crazy (Nobody is allowed to think she has emotions!)

My unpopular opinion about this character 

I’m suspicious of all fanarts of her in qipao... That includes you 👁️ Sadly, it is totally in-character for her to cash in on her ‘exotic’ appeal and Miko would eat it up...

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon. 

One thing about this question i wanna make clear is i don’t have often have any big hopes from canon outside of the standard ‘she should show up’ because so much of touhou taking and making their own ideas with the content.

That said, she should show up. With a new outfit. Give her a weimao and/or a veil.

How I feel about this character 

The only other character who hovers around my number 1 as often as Seiga, and it’s this tengu reporter. I think I was destined to be attached to her from the beginning, since Wind God Girl from pofv was the first piece of touhou music I ever heard and my first exposure to series as a whole. Nostalgia aside, I love her a lot and I couldn’t have picked a better candidate for a favourite character because she’s actually someone who shows up in canon regularly! Sorry to people whose favourite is Alice...

All the people I ship romantically with this character

There’s Hatate, and then there’s Reimu, and... I think that’s it? I think any relationship that has someone dealing with Aya is probably a ton of fun to think about though.

My non-romantic OTP for this character

Her rocky work-relationship with Momiji which usually ends with the latter biting her is pretty funny, but I think just as funny is whenever she runs into Suika at the hakurei shrine or wherever. Aya in general I like to think is wary or not fond of being in the compay of oni, and so she can’t help but to have her guard up at least a little even around Suika who is the oni least deserving of any respect. But it’s hard to maintain that when Suika just doesn’t care and keeps almost spilling alcohol on Aya’s notebook whenever she tries peeking and badgering about what she’s writing.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon. 

What if in the next hypothetical bunkachou book, the gimmick is that it’s a live coverage of an ongoing event and she’s hastily reediting the notes as it goes along, and now and then someone else gets their hands on the book and writes their own thoughts for a page or two, which Aya can’t erase. Maybe I just like the thought of having her be tormented a little.

K-ailisi’s wishlist

WISHES: I would prefer a drawing from Santa ! My absolute favorite is Miko. Following by Futo and Tojiko is a nice touch (Kokoro is welcomed too).  I adore the trio Sekibanki, Wakasagihime and Kagerou (as friends).  Mokou x Keine, Murasa x Ichirin are some of my favorite pairings.  Other characters I like: Sakuya, Yuyuko, Hina, Momiji… (if you are inspired by them, feel free to draw them alongside other characters like Remilia or Youmu, I love Touhou girls anyway!!)

PET PEEVES: Not a big fan of Mokou x Kaguya and Byakuren x Miko and Seiga x Miko ships.

March Touhou calendar characters

Sannyo Day is approaching late this month.

btw: if you want to know the secret strategy to getting a Touhou day fast even if you are new, and a stage 3 boss; then be a demo character who has the syllables in your name line up with the date 3 days after your game's demo releases.

though getting a day really isn't hard at all, people love coming up with holidays.

Especially if you can make a pun. Japanese puns with numbers make up the vast majority of Touhou dates. But since artists more or less just invent them whenever, it makes sense.

And March is pretty well booked.

(Though very front heavy, so many characters in the first half)

On the 2nd we've got Sunny Day

March 3rd is Hina day, since it's literally the holiday she's associated with.

March 4th is Myon day

(Youmu's nickname but in the west we sometimes call Youmu's half-Phantom "Myon". Which is conveniently the easiest character in all media to make art for)

March 5th is Miko day.

Both Miko as in Shrine Maiden for Sanae and Reimu, but also an extra Miko day for Toyosatomimi no Miko (generally, the fanbase likes to use the birthday for Prince Shōtoku as a Miko day, but if you want to do Miko art it's always cool to have an extra excuse to celebrate again)

March 7th is Sanae day

Yes, technically Sanae just had Miko day but this is Sanae's day all to herself.

Except it's not.

Sanae shares March 7th with Captain Murasa

March 9th is Sakuya, Sagume, and Mishaguji day.....(Suwako's snake creatures)

Yes, the curse gods of the Suwa region got their own day. If you want to see some very weird and scary interpretations of them, check out how the legendary doujin artist "Zounose" likes to draw them

March 10th is Satori and Sarial day.

Satori makes sense, though the Sarial name pun confuses both me and the person who translated the calendar.

March 12th is MiToji day Miko x Tojiko

It reuses the Miko pun of "Mi" in 3 from March and adds the To + ji pun from 10 and 2.

March 18th is Inaba day

It uses the "I" and "ba" from 1 and 8 to form the pun for Inaba

March 20th is MikoFuto Day

Once again using the "Mi" from 3 to create another ship pun. Using it with "Futo" 20 this time.

March 21st is Sunny day

yes. That is correct. This might seem like a prank, but you can make a Sunny pun two different ways in the same month. But by cheating...

3 and 2 give you "Sa" and "ni" just like on March 2nd and the 1 gives you an "i". So instead of "Sunny" like March 2nd on March 21st you get "Sunnyyyyy" a prank Sunny Milk would be proud of.

Finally, the last character date of the month is March 24th.

What OTPs in your fandom(s) do you just not get?*

It's not that I don't "get" specific ships, it's more closer to "I have a hard time suspending my disbelief and going along with the bit".

There are two ships that come to mind: Toyosatomimi no Miko/Soga no Tojiko from Touhou Project and Klavier Gavin/Apollo Justice from Ace Attorney.

For Miko/Tojiko, I can completely understand the appeal of a married couple meeting again in another life (not quite on the level of reincarnation, but it does have the theme of reuniting after a long period of time). But I feel like my hang-ups is that fandom tends to portray the duo as happily married when I'm 90% sure its real life inspiration (Shoutoku Taishi and Tojiko no Iratsume's marriage) was arranged so Soga no Umako could have access to the Royal Family rather than any real love. (I have no objections to being corrected since I only know like extremely broad strokes on Asuka period politics).

Even without drawing inspiration from history, Tojiko's profiles come off as pretty distant around Miko, usually only a line or two and then the bulk of her profiles are either about herself or about her relationship with Futo. I think typically the fandom writes it off as her wanting to be private, but from my perspective it comes off as her just trying to bide her tongue because she doesn't want to talk shit about her boss (but is okay talking about a dipshit co-worker). There is a line from Tojiko's profile in Symposium of Post-Mystcism I still can't really made heads or tails over though:

Futo's idea was "We'll let Buddhism rule for now, but after Miko revives as an authority figure, we will both revive as her officers."

It's not so much the wording but what throws me off, but instead it's that I'm not 100% sure if Akyuu is quoting Tojiko here or not, it feels like it should be. If it is Tojiko, herself, saying this you could read that she's close enough to Miko to be on a first name basis, but I can't help but read it as "she holds little respect for Miko so she just opts to call her by her name instead of her title". The other thing I get hung up over is how Tojiko's profile in Strange Creators of Outer World doesn't confirm her residency in Senkai (along with Seiga and Yoshika), which, again, comes off as her wanting to be distant around Miko. If memory serves Tojiko briefly pokes her head in Futo's ending in Hopeless Masquarade and no where else, kind of adding to my personal read she's not really that close to Miko.

This isn't to say I don't think they can learn to get along, but it feels like there's a lot of buildup needed for me to buy into the idea.

In a similar way with Klavier/Apollo, I get the concept on paper (like aside from the casual banter/innuendo that gets flung around in court). Klavier is a very lonely person and hides it with his persona, and Apollo hates that because he's such an honest and forward. I think he even mentions it in Turnabout Seranade he prefers the personality Klavier shows when he works on a case over his rock star personality.

In theory there's enough tension where I can see it being very satisfying when, finally, Apollo understands why Klavier puts the front that he does and in return Klavier can be open and honest to Apollo. But I never felt like such a moment really came. Maybe there's fan works that play with this concept, but I never was interested enough to explore.

3. Have you ever unfollowed someone over a fandom opinion?

No, oddly enough. I think on tumblr I would just block the post and on twitter mute/block are the bread and butter of the Twitter Experience(TM). I feel like it takes a lot for me to actually unfollow someone, but I do draw the line when people get really aggressive about it. The obvious example are those tweets where someone will post along the lines of "block me if you like x, y, and z"

7. Is there anything you used to like but can’t stand now?*

Usually my OTP preferences stay consistent throughout the years, but they sometimes lose intensity compared to when I first like them. As of late I don't hate Phoenix Wright/Miles Edgeworth (narumitsu) but I tend to prefer searching up Miles Edgeworth/Phoenix Wright (mitsunaru) if I really want to be nit picky about ship order... It's mostly because I think it's more entertaining to watch Miles fluster Phoenix more than the other way around.

E - Have you added anything cracky/hilarious to your fandom? If so, what?

Probably drawing a daikon lying seductively on a plate. I wish I kept the trend up. I always thought it was funny posting it on Valentine's Day. (Play on Futo -> Rad Dish and Tojiko -> Radish) I still think about one twitter user that wanted to make it popular.

X - A trope which you are almost certain to love in any fandom.

Probably mentor/mentee dynamics, I want to distinguish it from teacher/student dynamics since I think the latter tends to be a bit more rigid, the former is more closer to them being of the same field but maybe only a handful of years in experience apart. I think there's a lot more room for mentees to influence mentors, it's that kind of environment that opens for a lot more two-way growth...

Z - Just ramble about something fan-related, go go go! (Prompts optional but encouraged.)

I love the idea of kink memes a lot the general atmosphere of being able to freely request and freely fill those requests without any kind of pressure fostered a fun environment to experiment. I think as of now more of my writing has been done with kink memes than anywhere else because I do like having full anonymity. It's likely going to be a bygone era if social media keeps making it difficult to index things...

I still have toyed around with wanting to start one because I like the idea of being behind maintaining indexes, but I never quite got the motivation to look into how to set one up and follow through.
