The Yuu Watase Original Art Exhibition celebrating 35 years in the manga industry is now open in Tokyo, Japan!
This large-scale art exhibit features collections of Yuu Watase's original illustrations from all throughout her career.
This is such a well earned and much deserved celebration of Watase and her works. It brings me so much joy to see my favorite mangaka celebrated in such a way!
Here are some images gathered from Twitter and throughout the web from:

Imagine being Hotohori.
You grow up knowing your mysterious tattoo means disaster for your country but it also means the priestess is coming.
Then you remember your history lesson about the Hokkan Emperor that brought peace and prosperity to his land who was in love with the Priestess of Genbu.
And you think, oh, this might be MY love story.
You meet this ditzy girl with a heart of gold from another world and fall in love with her. And she falls in love with someone else. And that's ok.
You fulfill your duties as Emperor BUT you die... but that doesn't stop you, you're now a ghost.

I'm starting off pride month by reading Fushigi Yuugi: Genbu Kaiden, which is a prequel to Fushigi Yuugi.
I highly recommend both as manga reads for pride month. They're written by Yuu Watase who is x gender. In addition to the author being x gender there is always a character somewhere in her works that is gnc.
Fushigi Yuugi is a isekai shoujo manga about a girl who gets transported into a book -- the universe of the four gods. There she finds she's a mystical priestess who must bring together the 7 celestial warriors so she can summon a god to answer her question.
Fushigi Yuugi is about the story of the suzaku and seiryu priestesses, the final two priestess as they fall into the book and former friends become enemies.
Fushigi Yuugi: Genbu Kaiden is a prequel about the priestess of Genbu. Her story is briefly touched on in Fushigi Yuugi, so readers will be aware of the ending.
They are fantasy action shoujos first and romance stories second. the art is beautiful and the story is gripping.
I can't recommend both enough.

My relationship with FYGK as a tragedy hater is insane. Because I intellectually understand that, yes, FYGK is an extremely lovingly written tragedy, but I never have viewed it as one. I'm currently on volume 2 but I just remember it all. Those last panels with Takiko and Uruki reuniting in heaven save it for me, making it a beautiful beyond-the-divide-of-death love story rather than a senseless tragedy. Also the way Takiko is drawn in that field of flowers haunts me to this day in the best possible way and just screams hopehopehope to me. I also have to say that the way Hikitsu and Tomite's relationship is handled is beautiful whether you read it as platonic or romantic. Manufactured in so-devoted-the-lines-blur heaven.
