Takao has only one chance to save his young daughter, and that is to send her into The Universe of the Four Gods!

Those in North America who were waiting for the official VIZ releases will be happy to know that VIZ is now simulpublishing Byakko Senki online. This means the VIZ release of each chapter will be happening at the same time as it releases in Japan. Please enjoy their releases but also keep in mind that the VIZ releases have mistranslations and lacks the Sairou-specific words (or doesn't explain them) meaning that VIZ readers are missing out on a lot of cultural context (which really is a huge disservice to all the research and work Watase is putting into this story).

Made an impulse purchase the other day!!

I spent the whole walk home from the bookstore explaining to my mom everything I could think of about the intricacies of the Fushigi Yugi storyline across the trilogy and Yuu Watase's writing and development as a writer/artist and my analysis of the series and how I hope Byakko will go and what it means to be the last part of the trilogy and the most recent Watase work so yes you could say I'm excited for this!

You may have noticed that the editors haven’t been writing volume commentaries during shelter-in-place. We’ve had to make some accommodations during work from home, but I might start doing a more newslettery thing here. Let’s see how this one goes.

We’ve kept to the usual release schedule for our books, but because of circumstances, this month (July) is the first time the editors haven’t seen samples of the printed books before you do! (I hope they’re all okay!) It’s actually pretty amazing that we’ve been able to accomplish mostly everything that we usually do from the office. You can never gauge what will happen until you’re already in the situation.

In April we debuted Prince Freya, and in May we debuted Not Your Idol. You can read free previews of those series by typing in the manga title in the search bar on viz(dot)com. 

August books are almost here! It’s a pretty big release month with six volumes--including the yearly Kaze Hikaru release and the debut of the story of the final priestess in Fushigi Yûgi: Byakko Senki. 

Daily updates are on twitter only now, but I still get your questions through our Ask page. Remember, I can’t answer any “will you ever” questions. If there’s something, we’ll announce it, and if something isn’t ready to announce, we’ll never talk about it beforehand. That’s how the system works. (^_-)v

About the Author: Yuu Watase debuted in the Shôjo Comic manga anthology in 1989. She won the 43rd Shogakukan Manga Award with Ceres: Celestial Legend. One of her most famous works is Fushigi Yûgi. The prequel, Fushigi Yûgi: Genbu Kaiden, is also published by VIZ Media’s Shojo Beat imprint.
