Before BB's fun fact, I must explain

some Lore

I still havent figured out the brand name for what kinda robot BB is but! She's a Gen1 of her kind.

There's 3 "generations" of the robots.

"Gen1" was when they first came out, solely coming in more anime-y styles n were solely intended as cute little companion bots/expensive fashion dolls.

They were dolls first, robots second.

Some people who got into the hobby started modding their dolls and, as people tend to do with robots, making them engage in combat. The company saw this part of the community, and decided to lean into it.

Leading to Gen2. These robots were made with the expectation they'd be fighting other robots, and veered pretty hard from the original Cute Anime Girl look. Usually would have visors/screens for faces and a more sleek look. They had the exact same AI as the original generation, though. Just with some updates so they could get into fights without needing modifications first.

These ones were robots first, dolls second.

I don't have any sketches ready for how the Gen3s are for the most part, though they don't have a cohesive design scheme like the previous gens. These bots have the same software, just further built upon.

Gen3 bots can look very cute n bubbly in construction like gen1, or have a more sleek look like gen2, and some combine elements or do something abit different.

Things that are always consistant though for every bot under this brand:

-there's always a sensor on the chest/torso (bots can communicate that way somewhat, kinda like alot of robot toys that have infrared sensors like furbies)

-always have 2 wires coming out of their back in some way for charging and hooking up to computers (they can be removed but are kinda a pain so its best to leave them in)

-always have the chunky lower leg and forearm style. no defined ankles or wrists for these guys, lol.

-Range in height between 10 inches and a foot and a half (the exception being the Mini models like that pink one on the end)

The mini bot models are a budget line that're simpler than their bigger counterparts and aren't built for battles. (though this does not stop people from modding them to fight anyway)

Now, for the BB Specific Lore.

BB is a heavily modded Gen1, and has only had 2 owners. Her first one, who did all the modding, and Beatrice, who recently bought her at an estate sale after her old owner died.

BB's mods are all subtle internal ones, changing out parts to make her more battle-ready without sacrificing her Adorable Looks, and also updating her software to be on par with more modern models. (As well as some other custom upgrades)

She's a fairly impressive piece of robotics, considering the Gen1s are notoriously difficult to mod bc they were never intended to be modded in the first place.

Bonus lore: BB has a "sister" that's also a heavily modded gen1, but with more obvious physical modding to make her more battle ready with armor and to give her a general aesthetic change to better fit the hobby. She doesn't know where her sister bot wound up, seeing as she was sold before her.

i've decided to remove the tail and feet for this, they're both going to stay white, and i'm doing some minor modifications to the tail.

now, lets get our dye on! i happened to find the perfect pot for this outside, just cleaned it up with dish soap and boom! dye pot! it even works with the induction cooktop we have!

it wasnt easy getting the ratios for the dye, i'm very not good at math. i also saw little to no actual tutorials online about how to dye furby skin with synthetic dye. lucky me, phestarr is white and i'm shooting for a pastel, almost cotton candy color. i tried to make it easy on the workload since this is my very first time ever working with dye.

heres my tutorial. first, boil a pot of water. for this pot (which can hold about 60-70 quarts of water) i measured 55 quarts of water, let the water boil (keeping the temperature below 200° F), added the dye to "activate" it, stirred it in well, and then set a timer for 15 mins. the reason i did this is because several tutorials say that if you put the fur right into boiling water (above 200°) you risk melting the fur into clumps of plastic. the whole reason i was doing this was to avoid using acrylic paint (sensory issues) so i really didnt want that to happen. luckily, its Just warm enough for the dye to stick, Just cool enough to not melt the fibres! for the dye recipe i used 6 tbsp of super pink and 1 tbsp of racing red, and the other side is called kentucky sky. i didnt mess with the blue formula at all, and its the same amount of tbsps.

after i did each side, i let them drip for a while above the dye pot and then rinsed them out in the sink. after they were thoroughly rinsed, and both sides were done, i washed the whole thing with shampoo and conditioner to really make sure there was no dye running out.

the fur/skin is currently drying, right here right now! i shall update when its all the way dry :)

this is more of a hobby than a personality fact but i think it counts but i collect/modify furbys! i got into about 2 years ago when i decided to make a long furby and i currently have 7 furbys total all with various levels of modifications. its super fun i’ve gotta finish the one i started earlier this year

When you see something like this - as in, made for armed forces both domestic and military - is to ask yourself, "why this specific shape?"

Could be for stability. Four legs is more balanced than two

Could be for easy modification

Could be for the battery's protection/ease of charge

Wanna know another reason it could be shaped like that?

Humans like dogs and we let our guards down around dogs

It looks like a dog specifically to illicit that "aww" response, but these things aren't dogs. They're cameras and turrets on stilts. They have no feelings, autonomy or empathy. You're cooing at an ammo box, a Furby's even-more-cursed older cousin.

It isn't an R2-D2, BB-8 or BD-1 - these things are walking CCTV cameras pilotted by a cop. They also cost you - as a taxpayer - millions of unnecessary dollars. Every couple hundred thousand spent on these fucking things could have gone to public works like roads, homeless shelters, sewers or transit.

When I first started furby posting I did NOT think it would be a common occurrence. But seeing as I just bought a lot of like… 13 McDonald’s furbies AND I’m considering making my art portfolio next year about furby modification… yeah. I don’t think it’s slowing down for a bit.
