That day, you made three mistakes. 

First: talking about your problems in public. Second: letting slip how desperate you were. Third (the gravest mistake): locking gazes with none other than Lee Jeno. 

He perked up when you yelled at Hwang Yeji, “I’ll have nowhere to go!” 

The moment the words were out, your wide eyes met his amused ones. Jeno quirked an eyebrow and smirked, walking over to the booth you and Yeji were seated at. 

“What’s this I hear about you needing a place to crash, Y/N?” he cooed, setting his cup of coffee on the table and sliding beside you. 

You glared at him, frowning when the bare skin of his arm brushed against yours. Shifting away, you snapped, “None of your damn business, Lee. Quit eavesdropping and get out of here.”  

Jeno’s smirk grew when he saw your discomfort. Throwing an arm around your shoulder, he pulled you against him. Your head smashed into his hard chest as he teased, “Now, now, is that how you treat your brother’s best friend?” 

You narrowed your eyes and craned your neck to look at him. “That’s how I treat an egotistical bastard who doesn’t know basic manners.” 

Jeno grinned at the insult, lightly bumping his forehead against yours. “You look so attractive right now.” 

Heat rose to your cheeks, and you shoved him away, cursing loudly. He laughed at your flustered state, his eyes turning into small crescent moons. 

This was Lee Jeno—a huge flirt who thought highly of himself due to the popularity he had gained as the star player of your university’s football team, and whose only personality trait was being ridiculously attractive.

Art announces his official retirement on a Friday, a statement he wrote himself going out to all of his social media accounts. Tashi and their PR manager, Giovanni, book him a couple of interviews to do over the phone, all softball questions about what he’s planning to do next. This is also where they get to start soft-launching Tashi’s pivot to Patrick, because every interviewer inevitably ends up asking the same questions: “And what about your wife? What’s next for the incredible Tashi Donaldson? Are the two of you taking a well-deserved vacation?”  And Art, media-trained golden boy that he is, with his mostly-blond hair and mostly-blue eyes and mostly-heterosexual marriage, laughs, shaking his head. “Tashi’s not huge on vacations,” he grins. “She has something exciting up her sleeve, but I’m not going to steal her thunder.”  Something exciting, that’s one way to think of it. It’s how they’re marketing it: an exciting challenge, a calculated gamble. Underdog story, blah blah. They’re even using the old doubles connection between Art and Patrick, some kind of spin on Art knowing his potential better than anyone. (Hah — Tashi is the only one who knows how true that is.) Giovanni is still a little anxious that the move won’t go over well, but ultimately, it doesn’t really matter: as long as Patrick can go out on the court and play, Tashi will be happy. The court is where they can do the talking.  That announcement goes out the following week, and Tashi does all the interviews this time. Patrick is the furthest thing from media trained, and a fucking wildcard besides, so they limit him to a twitter statement that is heavily edited by Giovanni before it’s even approved.  Patrick had rolled his eyes. “Nobody who follows me is going to believe I wrote this.” It is, unfortunately, true — Patrick’s twitter is a horrifying mishmash of pop culture, snarky one liners, and the occasional argument.  “Well, nobody follows you anyway, so it doesn’t fucking matter,” she snaps.  It makes Art laugh, which makes Patrick grin, leaning his chin on Art’s thigh where they’re both sprawled on the couch. “You guys are so mean to me,” he whines. “At least my twitter has personality.”

You know, for all the pseudo-remakes McKimson did, I'm almost surprised he never tried one for Lost and Foundling but with Foghorn and Henery instead

LOL, contrastly i am NOT SURPRISED AT ALL he never did that because the very genuine sentimentality in that short (which i highly recommend everyone scope out, it is probably one of the best Sniffles shorts out there and IMO has the best balance between blabbermouth Sniffles and cutesy Sniffles) is like. the exact antithesis of everything Bob McKimson stands for. and imagining this is really making me laugh hysterically. i love love love McKimson shorts but sentimentality was not a strong point of his at all, and that is very much often why i like McKimson cartoons. everyone is an embittered cretin who hates each other and are dying to smack the internal organs out of anyone who mildly inconveniences them

i'm SURE i'm wrong in saying this, surely there is something more sentimental that i'm not thinking of at the moment. nevertheless, this bit from Dog Collared is the most "wholesome" i can think of a McKimson cartoon getting. and i do adore this scene a TONNNN which is why i'm shilling it HAHA. Stalling's score of "My Buddy" is magical. but to quote a friend, "if you only saw this clip you'd think it's a totally heartwarming cartoon" and it is wholly dependent on that lack of context

context LITERALLY RIGHT BEFORE THIS is that the dog is about to kill himself BECAUSE OF PORKY!!!!!!!! PORKY IS SLAPPING HIM AND CALLING HIM A MONGREL AND A MUTT!!!!! and his only interest in returning the dog home is wholly due to monetary motivation.

i sincerely think this may be the most wretched Porky behaves in his entire filmography (and i personally don't buy that he's a person really easily swayed by a big price tag) and it consequently is also some of the hardest i've ever laughed at a cartoon because of just how horribly awful and mean he is in it. thankfully the Funny prevails and it's not miserable to watch (save for a very egregious and tasteless bit that very much shows this cartoon's age but is thankfully easy to skip). BUT YES, it is very telling that one of the most "wholesome" moments in a McKimson cartoon is tied to one of his most mean (and that being the joke) that i can think off the top of his head, and the motivations for this wholesome are a huge disingenuous farce

the entire opening of this short is a masterpiece though and a great look into the McKimson frame of mind. and is exactly why i could never see him doing a Lost and Foundling type short
