The combination of sharpie and rapidograph fumes are combining in my nostrils into a concoction so noxious it will soon be banned for use during wartime

The purpose of this week's chores is to cleanse the house of the lyma leftover from the husband's cold of last week.
Maybe I should boil some white vinegar and fumigate the house, like meemaw used to do.

Did anyone else think your whole home being fumigated was a way more normal part of everyday life when growing up? It's used as a plot device so often, but I don't think I know anyone whose had to do that? But maybe it does happen??

‘A first in Paris’: city fumigates for tiger mosquitoes as tropical pests spread, bringing disease
Parisian health authorities treat French capital for the first time as Zika and dengue-carrying tiger mosquitoes advance through northeastern Europe Health authorities in Paris have fumigated areas of the French capital for the first time to kill disease-carrying tiger mosquitoes whose rapid advance through northern Europe is thought to have been accelerated by climate change. Roads were closed…

Hi! Did you know that termites don't like to be in daylight? If you're worried about whether or not your home has these creepy crawlers, look for mud tubes around the foundation to see if they're there.

“Refuge Worker Died From Natural Cause,” Montreal Star. November 10, 1932. Page 3. ---- Autopsy Disproves Rumor of Asphyxiation --- All doubt as to the cause of the death of Thomas Callas, 43, who died in the Inspector street refuge for the unemployed last Thursday, were set at rest by the report of the autopsy, which showed that the man died from natural causes. Dr. Roussel told the coroner of the inquest this morning that Callas had died from a complication of disease in which both heart and kidney were involved and that there could be no question of asphyxiation.
It was alleged by some persons that Callas had bean pushed Into the fumigating chamber of the refuge and had been poisoned by the gas there. It was said yesterday by F. R. Clarke, manager of the Protestant Employment Bureau. that this had not been tho case and that in any case no gas is used in the fumigation chamber.
Coroner Prince returned a verdict of death from natural causes.

Acidifiers: A Deep Dive into Their Role and Impact
Tumblr media
You might immediately get visions of brainiac scientists in a lab, bubbling beakers, and maybe even a little bit of cackling at the mention of the phrase “acidifiers.” So, relax, acidifiers are a hell of a lot more mundane-and useful-than that. From orange juice at breakfast to feed for livestock, acidifiers have a tremendous array of purposes. We are going to take a somewhat silly, nerdish dive into their world today to understand what acidifiers do and why they’re quite vital in our lives.
What Are Acidifiers, Anyway?
In simple words, acidifiers are something that reduces the pH of something. The word “pH” perhaps makes you recall high school science class, but bear with me here! pH is how the acidity or alkalinity of something is measured on a scale from 0 to 14. Midpoint is 7, below that is acidic, and above is alkaline. Acidifiers step in to push that pH down.
These small acidifying agents penetrate everything: food and drinks, medicine and farming products. You’ve probably already met such common acidifiers as citric acid in lemons or acetic acid in vinegar. Let’s now look at what acidifiers are and why they are the big deal!
The Role of Acidifiers in Food and Drinks
Acidifiers add a certain taste to food and beverages, which is one of its major applications. Imagine your favorite sour candy or your favorite kind of tangy soda — the cause is acidifiers. Not only do they add a certain taste, but also help preserve the food by creating an environment rather unhospitable to bacteria, after all. Bacteria have taste buds too, in a way.
Tumblr media
Citric acid, especially, is a super-acid with which refreshing products become zingy. But it’s not time to forget lactic acid, the daily yogurt’s king. Not only does it endow them with taste but also extends shelf life so that your food stays fresh longer.
Acidifiers in Agriculture and Animal Nutrition
But snacks are not the only thing that acidifiers are used for. Acidifiers also form an essential role in agriculture, particularly in animal nutrition. Animals, like humans, are rather sensitive in the stomach and digestive system. Acidifiers in animal feed help to maintain the proper pH in the stomach, which will increase the digestion and help in better nutrient absorption in the body of the animal. Think if you ate white bread and boiled carrots for a month and then someone gave you spicy taco one day-it may knock your system off balance. Acidifiers maintain the balance for livestock to allow them to grow better and stay healthier in general.
In a way, they are like probiotics for farm animals, reducing bad bacteria and bolstering the immune system of an animal. And let’s not forget: healthier animals tend to mean better food for us, either.
Acidifiers in Medicine and Beyond
Acidifiers are also very active in medicine. As far as medicines are concerned, acidifiers work in keeping stabilized certain drugs. They make some meds easier to be absorbed in our bodies and that we will get the right effect of what we are ingesting. And in an unexpected twist, acidifiers even help out during manufacturing processes because they present the conditions for just right chemical reactions. Without them, who knows? Your cough syrup could end up tasting like spicy salsa.
The Environmental Impact
Like any superhero, acidifiers also have its weaknesses. Just like everything else, overuse is a problem, especially in agriculture. Too much acidifier brings about too acidic soils, which can diminish plant growth and even contaminate nearby water sources. Touchy balance — as long as acidifiers are used properly, but that’s not the case in overdoing it; it would create some unplanned consequences for the environment. There are very dirt in pipe line so we recommend you pipeline cleaners to clean the pipe.
Conclusion: Live with the pH
And thus, here come the acidifiers-the unheralded heroes in our food, medicine, and even in our farming techniques. It’s what gives flavor to your foods, keeps your animals healthy, and ensures that the medicine will work right. While it can be very damaging if applied nearly in excess, responsible use puts them right in the “good guys” column.
The next time you pucker up after a sip of lemonade or savor that yogurt tang, remember: that’s acidifiers working their magic. They may not wear capes, but they’re doing a super job keeping things fresh, balanced, and delicious for all of us.
