It's probably not a much huddling for warmth as you're hoping for lol, but it's there! Basically Jyn gets back to Echo Base debilitatingly sleep deprived and then proceeds to have an terrible horrible no good very bad night. Literally just 2k words of buildup to like 500 words of hurt/comfort lol.

Cassian is an overworked firefighter who just had a bad day and everything he wants is to go home and pass out in bed but he also promised his friends he would show up for Chirrut’s birthday party so he sucks it up and drives to their home. There are a lot of people there, a lot of sugar-filled kids who want to play rough with him and he has a hard time saying no but his back is also killing him after the last intervention. He should’ve seen a doctor for it but Cassian is Cassian and he keeps putting it off hoping it will go away. But it starts to be hard to ignore it tonight and it hurts like a bitch.

That’s how he meets Jyn, because she’s asking him “on a scale of 1 to 10, how bad is it?”. He’s surprised at first, wondering how she can see it. “Your posture is fucked,” she says. He’s a bit distracted by her eyes, and the way she watches him like there is no one else around. With some reluctance, Cassian admits that he’d rather be laying in his bed. “That bad, uh?”

Then she asks Baze if she can borrow the bedroom for a while. Jyn is a physical therapist and while she insists he should see a chiropractor first thing in the morning, she drags him away from the party to “unfuck his back”. Cassian didn’t expect to get a massage from someone he met ten minutes ago but honestly? It feels so good that he can’t complain. Jyn obviously knows what she’s doing and the pressure of her hands really helps to take some of the edge off. So much so that Cassian falls asleep right here and there.

When he wakes up, he’s alone in his friends bedroom and he’s disappointed to see that most of the guests already went home. He gets bullied to pieces by Chirrut and Baze and they are delighted to inform him that Jyn left him a note. After some death threats, Cassian gets his hands on it.

“Next time you’re the one on top. Call me.”

Jyn dug her toes into the dusty pavement and threw herself at the agent, knocking him face first to the ground. She twisted, trying to avoid landing on him with her full weight, and punched him in the ribs with her elbow instead. He lurched underneath her, fighting to get up. “Cover!” she gasped and threw her arms over her head. 

Something cracked to their left, showering them in gravel that stung even through her jacket. Cassian lurched to his feet and yanked her upright by one arm. Ears ringing, Jyn stumbled after him behind the sparse cover of the closest market stall.

I remember the first time I read it just...lingering on certain sentences because I was in awe of how beautiful they were. Just read it. Trust me. (And then check out her WIP 12 Days afterwards!)

Okay off the bat: be mindful of the tags! This was a whumptober fic and it is BIG SAD. But it is also so, so beautiful. The emotion woven throughout cuts to the bone and as painful as it was, the premise of the story was very well executed. (And if you're looking for a lighter read--maybe a spicy one--Moria's one-shot SOLAR STORM has such an incredible setup. The sexual tension is so well done.)

I couldn't choose just one from this collection! Luce writes the softest, sweetest, fluffiest stories for RC that you will ever read. (Which makes perfect sense if you're lucky enough to get to know her because Luce is such a genuine, sweet soul.) These fics are like a warm-hug for the soul--just what you need after watching Rouge One.

Again: I am not usually one for Modern AUs but I think the RC fandom is changing me and the first I ever read was Eli's amazing fic. I am obsessed with how Eli writes Jyn's internal dialogue. It's so in character and sharp and will make you smile and shake your head and go "Oh, Jyn!" This collection of stories is idiots-in-love like nothing else and you will fall in love with the world Eli has so thoughtfully crafted for a modern-day RC.

I'm not usually one for modern AUs, but this fic is just so much fun. The banter between Cass and Jyn is so in character and so sharp and witty and the whole time I was reading I had a grin on my face. (These two idiots.) I love all the little details Sissi considers in this AU (Chewie being the dog for example), but that's no surprise! She is the queen of AUs!

Tethered (to the Story We Must Tell) by @dilf-din

I just absolutely loved the setup for this fic. Jess manages to fit these characters into a magical world so seamlessly by embedding the most incredible details from the Star Wars universe. (I was obsessed with the "stormtroopers".) Jess's writing is so smooth and rich and will immediately grab your attention.

Coping Mechanisms by @mosylufanfic

I think this was the first fic I ever read of mosylu's! I love the way she writes Jyn--always perfectly in character, strong and sassy. But in this fic in particular, I love the softness she brings to Jyn in how she cares for Cassian. I found it to be a very beautiful, healing read. (But if you're looking for something a bit longer or more upbeat! I mean, take your pick. Mosylu is another author who is amazing at AUs and her works are always such fun reads.)

Ok so I read this Jyn/Cassian fanfic a while ago and I can’t find it!!! It is either on Tumblr or Ao3! I know the exact plot. So just to get is out of the way it was smut.

So Jyn was mad a Cassian for leaving (for god knows how long) when he comes back to the base she is still pissed. And basically they are all at a cantina and Jyn takes this X-wing pilot to the back so where they make out and do other hands on things. Well Cassian caught them and was low key kinda pissed. Long story short they have angry sex which was kinda public. Remember this is angsty so there was I think crying afterwards and both left each other angry, upset, and sad.

Please help me I really want to read it again!!!! Don’t ask why I just do! STAR WARS FANDOM HELP ME YOUR MY ONLY HOPE

👀 A fic that you love a normal amount

there are SO SO MANY that match this criteria, but the first one that came to mind was you were my new home by katsumi.

i just love how oddly cozy but also how tragic it is. i also love the concept behind it because, as much as i love Rogue One, obviously, there just was not enough time to really properly develop/flesh out the characters. this fic manages to fix this.

anyway, i just love it.

It’s a story I enjoyed reading for a lot of reasons, but to focus on the cat facet: The tooka in this story is more conceptual/a child’s toy for most of the fic, but it’s a very cute element that brings Cassian and his daughter together.

WIP Last Line Game

Technically not my last line written (that was for RCSS) but here's more from part 2 of Umbra Memoriae.

The problem was not that she had lost memories; it was that she was missing them.  Amnesia was no longer a blank space in her mind, but an outline–a teasing sketch, whose completion she could not help but wonder about. And unlike other memories–memories of death, grief, fear, and betrayal; memories whose faintest traces she would not have bothered to pursue–she had learned just enough to know that these might be memories worth reclaiming.  What was worse, she had also learned that there was the possibility of doing exactly that: continuing this faint picture in her mind; discovering exactly what it was she had been creating. It would be extremely dangerous work to pursue (the success of which was highly improbable), but her memories were not entirely gone. There was a chance for her to remember what it was she had been drawing, to recall all the details and colors she had once dreamed of bringing to life; to return and continue a story she had only just begun telling…
