Violet Evergarden Cast Comments: Episode 12
← Previous || Index || Next →
Script: Suzuki Takaaki Storyboard Contents: Kawanami Eisaku, Yamamura Takuya, Fujita Haruka Direction: Sawa Shinpei, Yamamura Takuya Art Direction: Ueno Chiseko, Ikeda Kazumi, Kadowaki Mirai, Ikeda Akiko, Maruki Nobuaki
Summary:
An intercontinental railroad connected the north and south of the continent. Using the railway, which was finished in order to become a symbol of peace, Leidenschaftlich and the Galdarik Empire exchanged epistles of amity.
Cattleya, who was to ghostwrite the treaty documents, and Benedict, acting as her escort, go on board.
Anti-peace factions were aiming for the railroad’s destruction, and Dietfried’s troops were called to prevent it.
Meanwhile, Violet witnesses suspicious smoke from the plane on the way back from delivering letters to Aiden’s hometown. It was a trace of destruction activity by anti-peace factions. Sensing an ominous sign, Violet descended to the station where the locomotive was stopped and met with Cattleya. At this time, enemy soldiers had already infiltrated the vehicle.
Dietfried shows intense antipathy towards Violet. “You’re a tool. If I order you to slaughter all of our enemies, you’d murder them without losing composure, right?”
However, appeals for not killing and rejects the weapon that Dietfried offered.
Her figure was of a Violet that he did not know. He did not want to acknowledge the change in her.
Violet battles the enemies with bare hands.
The Brigadier-general Merkulov, who led the opposition, realized that Violet was the “Battlefield Doll of Leidenschaftlich” and lays bare his hatred for her.
Enemy soldiers attack Violet one after another. Her emerald brooch is robbed and ends up taken by the enemy. Staring at the brooch in Merkulov’s hands, she recalls Gilbert’s eyes.
The moment Brigadier Merkulov swung up his saber towards Violet, a man holding a gun shoots the saber down.
It was Dietfried.
Dietfried despised Violet for failing to protect Gilbert. “You killed Gil. That’s why you should die too!!”
Dietfried’s words pierced Violet’s chest. However, in spite of this, she retorted straight away, “Even so... Major told me to live.”
At that time, a bullet was released from the riffle, and Violet jumped in front of Dietfried――
Comments:
Ueno Chiseko (Art Direction)
I was put in charge of the art of episode 12. My name is Ueno.
This was a series that once again made me renew my views on the feeling of thinking about those who are precious to us and about mutually holding people dear, although in different ways.
I would be happiest if you could, through this work, feel what has been piling up in the following last episode. Thank you for watching.
Kiuchi Hidenobu (Voice of Dietfried Bougainvillea)
Touching the hearts of people while ghostwriting letters... Extremely wonderful, isn’t it?
I have been watching since the first episode, but I am overwhelmed by the power of this work. It is a truly beautiful series. It has a delicate depiction and expression power. And the music and words flow comfortably. I think very happily of being able to live within this worldview.
Whenever Colonel Dietfried makes an appearance, I feel very bad about Violet-chan, but what will happen to his wrath, sadness and loathing later on once he is touched by love? I am unable to peel my eyes away until the very end.
Look forward to it!

Yotsuiro Biyori 1 | Kakuriyo 2 | Lupin 3 Pt 5 2 | Saredo 2 | BnHA 40 | Boueibu HK 2 | Mahou Shoujo Ore 3 | Golden Kamuy 2
Yotsuiro Biyori 1
I memorised this show’s name as being “Rokuhoudou”, so I almost didn’t recognise it at first when CR got it! I’m only taking it on because of the SoL aspect, which I’m normally not too sold on. However, there was a lot of slice of life this past winter, so I can see this being moved to the on hold pile already…
Mitarashi (dango).
Why do I get the feeling there was something fishy (time travel, a death or something) that happened to make the Rokuhoudou the way it is? I say “time travel because of what I read about this show on ANN.
Is it just me, or does the background around this woman look kind of flat? The bins seem pretty flat, at the very least…
I can see what the woman means when she goes “This is a café?” It sure don’t look like one, it’s more like a temple or something.
I almost expected the woman to mangle the name of the café and go “Shika-kaede-tou” or something. How do the Japanese manage to get all these kanji combo pronunciations right???
“Don’t dodge my question, you king of BS.” – Just another quotable, alongside “Just Google it, asshole.” (Boueibu HK)
I thought the latte art was a dog at first, but yeah, if I look at it differently, it’s a bunny!
Kusamochi. By the way, I was thinking this show is really charming. Sure, I had more than enough Cute Boys Doing Cute Things in the winter, but these guys have quite the rapport. Now if only I could figure out what their names are (properly)…
Wait, so did that board/sheet/whatever inside that inspired Redhead refer to Kinako (cat) or kinako?
Lemme get this straight – black hair is Tokitaka, brown hair (latte) is Gure, desserts boy is…shoot, I don’t know…Update: Gure has black hair, not brown. It’s just shorter than Tokitaka’s.
I got no Google hits for Koubai pink, but Yurushiiro pink I did…so here you go. Yurushiiro pink was a pink that wasn’t banned by the emperor of Japan back in the day where he had more power. It seems to be a shade somewhat similar to cherry blossoms.
Tokiiro pink = rose gold and Yoshino cherry white = a pinkish-white.
Nerikiri is a type of wagashi.
Some of the subs got cut off! Grr, CR! So, here’s my attempt to translate what they have on that board of Redhead’s: after “butterflies”, there’s “plum” (ume), “bamboo shoots” (take no ko) and “new leaves” (wakaba). CR definitely used a longer word combo in place of “new leaves” though, so I could be wrong. That writing’s pretty scribbly, after all.
Redhead is Tsubaki (see? I have a horrendous memory when it comes to learning things for the first time)…so who am I missing?
Sakuramochi. It’s that grainy sort of pink, leaf-bound mochi you often see in shows like this.
Gure seems to like his Italian, doesn’t he? Is he half-foreign or is this just being a fan of the language of pasta?
“…think about the spring sunshine.” – So why the cat background?
Okay, I’ve found whose name I’ve forgotten. Sui (brunette).
Tokishirazu salmon. LOL, that salmon’s perfect for Tokitaka!
I don’t think they showed the chopstick holder earlier, but it’s a heart. It really is cute!
Interestingly, this woman brings to mind the idea of meiwaku when she says that it was her fault.
Oh, they weren’t heart shaped, they were cherry blossom shaped! That makes a lot more sense! (The shapes are similar though…)
Makunouchi bento…that sounds familiar, for some reason.
Hanami dango. I’m sure you know them, even if you’re not familiar with the name...so long as you’ve watched enough anime to see them at least once.
Ah, I bet Gure is a happy drunk, LOL.
Hah? There’s Sui (when he was younger)? Not in this episode, no…There was also a Tsubasa Fujita who was voiced by Hibiku Yamamura. I assume that’s the woman we were following today, but it might’ve been her friend or someone in a later episode…
Manjyu chazuke. I had to use the Japanese words to get some hits (as opposed to the romaji I just used), but whoever said that thing about Ougai seems to be correct.
Omusubi seems to be another name for onigiri.
Sencha.
That seems like less of a drop than I first thought...it’s going to be tough to cut down on all these shows. I’m clearly being affected by how much I opened up my watchlist, because remember those days where I’d only take on two shows a season?
Kakuriyo 2
Wow, the oni really has it in for her now...or is it really that hard to get a true read of him?
I somehow wagered the tengu was going to remind Aoi of her old man a few seconds before she did just that. That’s a bad sign...
Would a tengu have been too heavy to fly if it were drowning?
Seriously, this tengu never thinks of flying. I’m laughing, but I’ve realised this show’s strength seems to be its humour more than anything.
The airship has the kanji for “Ten” (from Tenjinya).
The pace of this show goes like molasses, so I think I’ll put it on hold here.
Lupin III Pt V 2
“Did you finally start caring about the environment?”
Holy helicopters, Batman! The AW609...exists!
“...Lupin used to escape!”
They’re being chased and yet still have time for hotpot, LOL. Never change, Lupin. Never change.
I never thought Iâd see the day where a situation like the one Amiâs in could ever be talked out of in anime. Normally a scenario like that one is played for drama...
I guess even Lupin has a moe instinct, LOL.
That social media service looks a lot like Twitter, eh?
Apparently Shinpei Mayama is new this episode...Keep watching.
The Flea? He looks more like a hikikomori monster to me, LOL. (Boueibu reference, don’t mind me...)
I get the feeling I should know these people that are all showing up, but I feel like I don’t need to know about their backstories to appreciate them going forward. Thus, I will keep this show. Once again though, it’s a tentative keeper.
Saredo 2
I’m zoning out...I need to drop this show, don’t I?...
Soleil? Is that Gayus’s surname? (Basically, I got roped back into watching it with one reveal, LOL. I’m such a finicky person.)
One Hundred Ways to Train Your Dragon, more like it, LOL.
Oh great. Every time they have a religious figure, the show always seems to go downhill...(thinks back to Vatican Miracle Examiner)
Wow, “pessimistically optimistic”. That’s quite the paradox!
The power of politics is to back up one voice with lots of voices, so...uh...about that, Cardinal Mouldeen...
“Come on, you slaves of authority.” - LOL. What a name.
“[Gigina’s] a sword dancer...” - Oh, so that’s why sinners dance with the dragons! A “dancer” is a magician in this world.
Okay, seriously. How did I not see how bad this show was in the first episode? If your side characters are more developed than your main ones, you’ve got a problem.
I’ve never seen a man more dedicated to fantasy-style IKEA than Gigina, LOL. At least that’s fresh.
I don’t think I even want to document this for later, but who the heck is Diorg?
I completely regret praising the rapport between Gayus and Gigina now. You can have some great convos when one member of the convo’s drunk, but this is a bit of a mess of a convo, tbh.
Even without the big names, I suspected the woman was connected to the black dragon...
This is a show where property damage counts, right? Gayus’ll throw a fit later, eh?
Okay, I think I’ve complained about this show way too much. Once I start seeing something in a negative light I start to sound really critical, and a lot of the time it’s actually not as rewarding as hatewatches should be, which is why I haven’t tackled anything for hatewatch purposes yet. It’s just a fun-sucker, if that’s the case, and that was definitely the case with this show.
BnHA 40
Wait, why is the camera-oh, it’s just Mineta. Get off the audience’s case, Mineta.
Is it just me, or is it that every time I read “Wild, Wild Pussycats” I get this song in my head?
I love how the Pussycats are basically magical girls with those poses!
How did they not censor Dragon Quest??? (LOL)
Aizawa likes cats? That’s new, but it’s also very in line with what we know of him already.
Oh, I see. She’s a Christmas cake!
What does GG stand for in that context, huh? “you GG bastard”, hmm...
Between BnHA and Tiramisu, you’re definitely in luck if you like muscular boys!
I feel like Kota’s a hypocrite. After all, he’s at his aunt’s and his aunt is a rescue hero...
Kota is very much like Midoriya in a few ways, don’tcha think?
Kota’s name has a lot of water in it, doesn’t it? (Both kanji in his name have water radicals.)
Boueibu HK 2
For some reason, Wakura actually seems happy about his outfit...even though he criticises it.
I’m kind of confused about that “hammer and pigeon” thing myself, although hato = pigeon which you can vaguely hear in Furanui’s sentence.
I love Wakura’s serious face...seriously, I need to figure out who best boy is soon, eh?
LOL, I said platypus was kamonohashi, yeah? Kamo can mean duck and it can be short for “maybe” (kamoshirenai).
Wahey, Binanshi Contest! Was it no. 1704 last ep as well?
Well, spoilers beat me on this one, but Tawarayama was a principal after the other guy...but then what are the HK DC gonna do about an advisor?
Ehhhhhhh? This I didn’t see! Shuzenji calls Ata by that name!
The student council room hasn’t changed at all, I see.
“Get fat!” - Wow...(LOL)
Calling it now - Unazuki is a yes man. Very Arima-like...
Strangely, Maasa’s sentence doesn’t specify Furanui is “shrimpy” at all. He just calls Furanui “this thing” (konna).
Does this mean Maasa has a thing for cool belly dancer guys? Hmm? Or is it just the magic he’s impressed with?
That board on the wall of the student council room hasnât changed at all, which is what tipped me off to my earlier comment.
Ritter = knight. So our ES are Diamond, Rose Quartz and Amethyst. There’s not as much of a pattern going through these guys as there was with the CA, but it’ll have to do.
Oh wow, that summary took almost half an episode! No wonder the DC ran off!
The massage thing really calls to mind the manga...
108 is a Buddhist number. I wonder if thereâs any significance to that...
July 18th? Boy, another July baby (thnks back to En)...
Getanha are cakes from Kagoshima, where the Kirishima onsen is.
Lorbeerprinz says ”druck” is pressure...but...well, I never thought I’d see the day I regretted not learning German, that’s all. Sorry. I got nothing on this.
This shabu shabu stuff reminds me of the chikuwabu talk in LOVE! s1 ep 1. (nostalgia washes over everyone)
They definitely upped their 4th walling this season, eh? First the layout artist thing, now this “cut off by the frameâ” thing.
The river I’d assume is the Sanzu (river you have to cross before you die) and I guess the flowerbed has to do with that. Kyotaro is Fiore Kiss though...which seems somewhat ironic.
At least they’re fully clothed prior to this transformation...but I didn’t mind seeing them transform from their birthday suits last episode, either...
What is that? *squints* It appears to be Taiju’s phone. Atsushi’s last season was green so I can see why this one’s plum.
Applying self destruct boosters is a lot easier than it looks. (thinks to Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, where cake makes a character explode)
There’s a list of ground rules, including “let’s protect morals and manner”...whatever “manner” is. I guess the Furanui Knights, who aren’t actually on the ground, wouldn’t be subjected to “ground rules”, eh?
This one was clearly a case of “didn’t think of something for himself”, huh...
Do they have hot baths in Honyara Land???
Kamopapa’s VA was someone with the surname “Nishimura”...gotta look this guy up later, I guess. Seeing the actual visuals of the ED for once is so exciting, though!
The statement on the scroll in the back means “scholarship and the martial arts”, which is just another way of saying Ata’s a perfect student and is continually striving to be one.
Maasa’s hair antenna is a heart in the ED. That’ll get him charm points for sure.
Lookit them badass swords! They even have corresponding gems on them!
A-ha! I thought the final defeat song was Happy Ready. These marketing guys are too predictable...
For some reason, this ED is a lot more Detective Conan than the last one. I can’t quite put my finger on why though...
This next ep preview’s the best! I wanna quote it! “You know how there are things you see every day, but you don’t actually know what they’re called, so you just say “the thing” or “the whatever-it-is”? The next episode’s about that sort of stuff.” Update: It really is about that sort of stuff, this preview’s just uber-vague...
Mahou Shoujo Ore 3
Wow, they’re really leaning on the 4th wall this week, aren’t they?
The lyrics by and large really don’t make sense, so I feel quite thankful I’m not listening to the audio track right now, LOL.
(at “This way, squirrel!”) What in animals’ name is this Pokemon? (LOL)
Hey, uh...is it just me or did both magical boy shows opt for the flashbacks this week, too?
What’s the age difference between Sakuyo and Mohiro? Kid!Mohiro doesn’t look older than 12 here.
“Thus concludes Sakuyo’s Thrilling First Love.”
One thing I’ve noticed with lots of magical girls is that they have earrings. Arima (Boueibu) had them, but these guys do too.
“...looks so much like Mohiro-chan...” - Now that I look at Sakuyo’s magical boy form, he does kinda look like Mohiro eyes-wise...
God of Conquests? That refers to the main character of The World ____ Only ______, right?...Yup, I think so!
Have we been watching the same fight scene for almost an episode? Geez, flashbacks.
Can I like Mohiro-chan too? Because this eyecatch completely sold me!
The pixelation’s probably going to give me motion sickness one of these days (exaggerating), but if they overuse it, I’m definitely gonna go on about it.
Max Heart? I wonder if Astral’ll get it? I sure do, but I don’t know if he will.
I think I spotted a chick design on Mohiro’s jumper...?
Wow! Self-deprecation, much? (somewhat sarcastic) (The magazine this series ran in deals with BL, according to the blog header here. Mahou Shoujo Ore flip flops over that boundary, so you can see how it got into it...)
”Wherever there’s a magical girl, that’s where you’ll find me!” (Or should that be plural?)
Oh no, don’t even try going there, Sakuyo (laughing as I type this)...thank goodness they didn’t compare their...uh, hand grip. Yeah, the strength of their hand grip! (sweat sweat)
What was Saki drinking, wine? (somewhat sarcastic, somewhat skeptical)
Asano Shinbun is a parody of the Asahi Shinbun, one of the 5 biggest publications in Japan in regards to newspapers.
If you don’t remember from Mob Psycho 100, “mob” in this case means “just another face in the crowd”. Like the name ”Jane Doe” in English. The henohenomoheji style is a distinctive touch, though.
They’re being serious about the TV appearance thing? Never would’ve thought that, considering how that was a parody of Superman changing outfits in a telephone booth. Either that or some other superhero...
Golden Kamuy 2
Those pinecones sure look like prawns to me...
Ooh! OP! much hype, such wow. Also, a Man With a Mission OP is definitely something to keep an ear out for.
(in the OP) The letterboxing effect is cool here.
Sugimoto’s asking about tattoos because people with tatts wouldn’t be allowed into baths. At least, that’s the rule nowadays...
Karafuto.
This guy reminds me of Kaiji...or Akagi...or whatever the guy’s name is.
Gah, enough with the fire! This isn’t Blingee, for gold diggers’ sake!
Well, at least Sugimoto and Asirpa can take the skin nowâ...
The Ainu cooking show strikes again. Not that I’m complaining about it, it’s strangely interesting in an odd way. Not to mention the action mitigates any weirdness these parts might give the show.
Squirrel brain. Never in my life would I have dared to type thatâ¦until now. (Or eat it, but please don’t make me harm cute squirrels...)
I think Iâ’ve seen so many Shokugeki no Souma parodies/variations, I kind of expect every (pseudo-?)cooking show to do something like it. The fact Golden Kamuy didn’t do it surprised me in that way.
This guy! He did a Valentine’s promo for the show! His nameâ’s Shiraishi!
What a regular Houdini, eh?
This show is so comical in such a way you’d never see in another show. I love it.
Shiraishi with a raccoon on his head, LOL.

So in the GO games the characters have their years by their names and other info and I find that pretty interesting?? I don’t think the games prior to the GO ones had the years on the character mini profile. I tend to forget who is in what year sometimes and the ina11 wiki doesn’t have their years listed (I think). Anyway, if you’re curious about who is in what year/grade here’s a (long) list of inazuma characters. It mostly contains GO characters but since you can recruit some characters from the original series I added them on here to.
Not every character has a year, some are labeled ??? or ADULT (Akizora Challengers/Golden Oldies team). Most of the aliea characters are under ??? and Toramaru is to (but we all know he’s younger so-). Also, these are only from Light/Shadow. I haven’t played CS yet so none of those characters are on here.

J-Rock Band The Pillows Celebrates 30 Years with Feature Film Drama
Although they are probably best known among anime fans for their musical stylings for the FLCL series, the Japanese rock band known as The Pillows have been touring since 1989, and to celebrate their 30th anniversary, the group is trying their hand at another cinematic medium: dramatic, live-action theatrical film.
youtube
The new film, entitled Ousama ni Nare ("Become the King"), features music and an original story by Sawao Yamanaka (guitar and vocals for The Pillows) as well as a script and direction by Shûji Okui. The film stars actor Amane Okayama as Yuusuke, a young man who works in a ramen shop frequented by numerous Japanese rock bands. Yuusuke dreams of being a photographer, and he decides to follow his dreams by becoming a cameraman for live concert events.
Ousama ni Nare also features appearances by numerous musicians, including: TERU and JIRO of GLAY; Atsushi Horie, Hidekazu Hinata, and Shinpei Nakayama of Straightener; Hirotaka Takahashi of THE PREDATORS; Ryosuke Sasaki, Tomoya Tabuchi, Hiroaki Arai, and Hiroyuki Suzuki of THE KEBABS; yoko and Shinya Kusube of Casablanca; Hirata Panda, Beat Ryo, Hoshikawa Don't Let Me Down, Honma Domino, and Chiba O'Reilly of THE BOHEMIANS; Eiichi Miyamoto of syurispeiloff; Ena Fujita; and Asako Miyazaki, Aya Matsuoka, and Misaki Yoshikawa of SHISHAMO.

Violet Evergarden Cast Comments: Episode 1
Index || Next →
Script: Yoshida Reiko Storyboard Contents: Ishidate Taichi Direction: Ishidate Taichi, Fujita Haruka, Sawa Shinpei Art Direction: Maruki Nobuaki, Takase Akiko, Akemi Yuuko, Maruko Tatsunari
Summary:
There existed a girl with no emotions. She had been living as a “tool” that served for fighting. Her name was Violet.
Time passed, the war ended and another era was about to begin.
Violet, who had been wounded in the war, wakes up on a bed. After having been shot, her once white and smooth arms were replaced for prosthetics that shone silver. All she had left were her memories of the battlefield and the words that her superior, Major Gilbert Bougainvillea, had last told her. However, Violet remained unable to understand the meaning of said words.
It is then that one man appears. He is a former lieutenant-colonel, Claudia Hodgins. Hodgins says he had come to pick her up in Gilbert’s place. The two of them head to Leiden, the southern port capital of Leidenschaftlich. Leiden welcomes Violet with its people, overflowing with liveliness, and its beautiful port city landscape.
In that new city, Violet meets “Auto-Memories Dolls”. They perform the duty of transforming their clients’ feelings into words and transcribing them onto letters. At times, they will also scoop thoughts sealed deep within their clients’ chests.
If she were to become an “Auto-Memories Doll”, perhaps she could find out the meaning of the words that Gilbert had left her – “I love you.”
“I wish to know what ‘I love you’ means.”
That was the first demonstration of free will that Violet, who had lived as a “tool” which bore no emotions and served for fighting, had showed.
Comments:
Director Ishidate Taichi
I am Ishidate, the one in charge of the contents of episode 1, as well as the overall direction. It’s the very first episode, so I remember worrying quite a lot about what should be brought out in it as an episode, the character designs, backgrounds, color designs and shooting processes. What would be fitting to be the beginning of all the episodes that would start from then on? I was fretting. As result, I thought that, if I were to portray how the charm of the girl named Violet is that “her straightforwardness borders foolishness and she’s not transparent but white”, it was important to be able to earnestly write about Violet just like that, just the way she is, deliberately acting oddly without paying mind to what’s considered strange. The fact that this – that her existence itself – is beautiful was something I felt after reading the original work. For that sake, I earnestly wrote about her “just like that, the way she was”, so that she’d resonate with that world. There, I’d make the “incompatibility of that pure whiteness” exist. I write not about “the world that she saw”, but about “she who saw the world”. I wondered if that objective viewpoint wasn’t the suitable one for this work.
Along with her growth, her point of view might also change. That’s why we included this as well and developed the series aiming for people who watched it to say that “it was good”. I’d be happiest if you could stick with us until the last episode.
Koyasu Takehito (Voice of Claudia Hodgins)
I’m grateful for being able to take part in such a wonderful work. It’s an extremely beautiful series in which one's heart warms up from being touched by people’s gentleness, so please do watch over it until the end.
Uchiyama Kouki (Voice of Benedict Blue)
Have you enjoyed episode 1? I think it managed to present the unique worldview of “Violet Evergarden”. And, since several mysteries still remain, there might be many who are curious as to what happened to Violet until now.
About Benedict Blue, who I am playing, I received an explanation from Director Ishidate first-thing in the after-recording, and I was shocked as I had finally noticed back then that he wore heels. It seems he has a distinctive sense of aesthetic for some reason. Also, other members from the postal agency who work with Benedict will appear in the next stages of the story as well, so I’d be happiest if people could pay attention to them along with Violet from now on.

Violet Evergarden Cast Comments: Episode 5
← Previous || Index || Next →
Script: Suzuki Takaaki Storyboard Contents: Yamada Naoko Direction: Fujita Haruka, Sawa Shinpei Art Direction: Ueno Chiseko
Summary:
The seasons passed, and the time of the year with clear skies began. Violet had been ghostwriting many letters, becoming the topic amongst aristocrats.
This time, what Violet was supposed to ghostwrite were the love letters of a princess, who was set to marry someone from a neighbor country. Through exposing to the citizens the love letters that they exchanged with each other, the princess of the Drossel Kingdom and the prince of the Flugel Empire would open their nations to celebrate their wedding. This was a traditional ritual in the kingdom, and there was also the fact that the “marriage diplomacy” would bind peace between the two countries, which had been in hostile relations during wartime.
Charlotte, the princess of the Drossel Kingdom, is a cherubic 14-year-old girl. She is unbearably anxious about marrying into a foreign country and having to separate from her maidservant, Alberta.
The one ghostwriting the princess’s love letters is a girl of about the same age as herself, Violet Evergarden. During the romantic ritual, which came from old-world eastern and western books, Violet presents an excellent love letter. However, Charlotte’s facial expression does not light up at it...
A few years before, something had taken place in a garden of white camellias. The prince of the Flugel Empire, Damian, had called over to Charlotte as she sobbed by herself. Damian had cheered her up with an smile that was not merely for display and frank words.
Charlotte fell in love with the prince right then. Even so... the love letters that the prince sent, ghostwritten by an Auto-Memories Doll, made Charlotte disraught. In the gorgeously ornate love letters, she could not see the prince’s heart. No matter how much the letters of the prince and princess aroused the citizens’ excitement or how they enveloped the two countries in a tendency of peacefulness, Charlotte’s crying would not cease.
Violet is touched by the romantic feelings of a girl about the same age as herself, she declared, “I wish to stop your tears” and took certain actions. That is, having Charlotte and Damian write the love letters on their own.
And so, the last letter sent by the prince consisted of only one sentence.
“Tonight, I will wait for you in the garden beneath the moonlight.”
That night, in the garden of white camellias where the two had met for the first time, they swore eternal love for each other.
On the morning of the wedding day, the princess exchanges words of gratitude and farewell with the maidservant that she had been spending time with before even being born, Alberta, from the bottom of her heart. There were no tears in Charlotte’s eyes.
Around the same time, a brisk autumn sky was reflected in the eyes of Violet.
Comments:
Yamada Naoko (Storyboard Contents)
This is Yamada, the one in charge of the storyboard contents of episode 3. I gave importance to the characters calling each others’ names. Whenever the court servant Alberta talked to Charlotte, I believed that I wanted to gradually build up her way of referring to the latter while making an approach towards her feelings during those rare moments, so I very, very carefully cherished this as I completed the contents. “Princess”. “Honorable Princess”. “Princess Charlotte”. “Charlotte”. I made it so that each of these would deliver Alberta’s irreplaceable form of love to Charlotte. And also so that the’d be part of the fragments that lead to Violet’s awareness of love. It was a story about the priceless warmth of people’s thoughts.
Nakajima Megumi (Voice of Charlotte Abelfreyja Drossel)
Violet’s gaze and voice as she said, “I wish to stop your tears” was extremely beautiful and an impressive moment.
The one I was selected to play, Charlotte, is a child who lets her emotions show in an unadultered (and sometimes intense) manner, despite swaying in-between her position as princess and her girl feelings. I would be great if her meeting with Violet and the time they spent together turned out as something that would be deepl engraved in the latter’s heart... I can’t stop hoping for this.
I am really happy to participate in such a marvelous work! Thank you very much.
Koyama Mami (Voice of Alberta)
Lovely, adorable, impatient Charlotte. While wishing for her happiness, Alberta saw her off with a tinge of loneliness in her chest. I’d be happy if people could feel this to the point their hearts would grow warm. If I had a daughter, I would surely send her off with those same kinds of thoughts. The studio, too, was overflowing with a very soft aura (of love).
On another note, “letters” are incredible. In them, people can do a “catchball” of feelings that they’re unable to convey in conversations. They bear a great power, huh? I haven’t written one in a long time~.
