When conducting check engine light diagnostics on a Chevrolet Malibu, an EGR flow insufficient code appeared.
Even though the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve was replaced, the passages weren’t clean. We performed a fuel induction service, which cleared out a lot of the carbon buildup.
Some signs of carbon buildup include rough idle, low fuel economy, stalling, and loss of power.
Fuel induction services can help restore engine power, reduce how much emissions are released through the tailpipe, and improve the air-fuel flow.

This week, we conducted a fuel induction service on a Subaru Forester. The vehicle had an intermittent starting issue – sometimes, it would crank for a few seconds and not start.
A lot of carbon had accumulated and the Subaru had more than 100,000 miles on it. We saw no history of a fuel induction service.
Trouble starting a vehicle, rough idle, lower gas mileage, and stalling can be indicators of carbon buildup.
Through the fuel induction service, we are able to clean different parts, like the throttle body and fuel injectors. This factory-based maintenance helps restore engine power and increases fuel economy.

VX-9 F/A-18F Spotted With Heavy Air-to-Air Load of AIM-174s and AIM-120s
The U.S. Navy is continuing to test the new AIM-174B missile, derived from the SM-6, aboard the Super Hornet, with a VX-9 jet carrying four AIM-174s, three AIM-120s and two AIM-9Xs.

A U.S. Navy F/A-18F Super Hornet of VX-9 “Vampires” was spotted with a heavy air-to-air loadout, which includes four AIM-174Bs, three AIM-120s and two AIM-9Xs, in addition to a targeting pod and an InfraRed Search and Track installed on the external fuel tank. Aviation photographer @point_mugu_skies was one of the few to capture the aircraft in this previously unseen configuration and kindly provided us the images you can see in this article.
The aircraft is the Vampires’ flagship, “Vandy 1”, which sports the black livery applied for the unit’s 30th anniversary to pay tribute to the original one which was used on VX-4 commander’s F-4s and F-14s, also known as “Vandy 1”. The callsign originated from the abbreviation of the unit’s official callsign “Vanderbilt” used at the time.
As The Aviationist has reported in detail in the last few months, the AIM-174B is a Standard Missile (SM) 6 variant developed for the air-to-air role. The SM-6 is the surface-to-air missile designed to be used on Navy ships in conjunction with the Aegis Combat System and also known as the RIM-174 Standard Extended Range Active Missile (ERAM).
The idea of adapting the SM-6 to be air-launched is not new, as the weapon was already seen on a Super Hornet of VX-31 in 2018 and 2021. However, it wasn’t until earlier this year that the testing got a new impulse and operational units were involved.
In fact, after another F/A-18 was spotted in April with an SM-6 under the wing, the weapon then appeared on operational jets assigned to the USS Carl Vinson aircraft carrier during the Rim of The Pacific 2024 (RIMPAC 2024) exercise in July. The heaviest load seen so far included two AIM-174s and two AIM-120s.
The one seen in the latest photo is reportedly the heaviest air-to-air load to date with the new weapon, with the AIM-174 both on the inner and middle wing hardpoints. It’s interesting to note also the presence on the external fuel tank of the ASG-34A IRST, which acts as a complementary sensor to the AN/APG-79 fire control radar in a heavy electronic attack or radar-denied environment.

AIM-174B
As previously explained, the AIM-174 is an air-launched version of the RIM-174 Standard Extended Range Active Missile (ERAM), a crucial element of the US Navy’s air defense strategy. Integrated into the Aegis Combat System, the RIM-174 is primarily designed for long-range anti-air warfare but can also be employed for terminal phase ballistic missile defense and as an anti-ship missile. This year marked the first official combat use of the SM-6, with the Department of Defense confirming that the USS Carney intercepted and destroyed an anti-ship ballistic missile fired by Houthi rebels in the Gulf of Aden on January 30, 2024.
The SM-6 uses the airframe of the SM-2ER Block IV (RIM-156A) missile, upgraded with an active radar homing seeker derived from the AIM-120 AMRAAM air-to-air missile. This missile can reach speeds of up to Mach 3.5 and has a maximum range of 200 nautical miles. To that respect, it’s not clear what the maximum range of the air-launched version could be: despite the lack of a booster, launching it at high speed and altitude would result in significantly greater range compared to the surface-launched variant.
With the induction of the AIM-174B into service, the U.S. Navy joins a number of air arms capable of deploying an extra-long-range beyond-visual-range air-to-air missile (BVRAAM), like the MBDA Meteor, the Russian R-37M and Chinese PL-15 and PL-21. In fact, the AIM-174B enables the U.S. Navy Super Hornets to engage targets at much greater distances than is currently possible with the AIM-120 AMRAAM. Integrated with the E-2D, F-35, and AEGIS within the Naval Integrated Fire Control-Counter Air (NIFC-CA) system, the AIM-174B would extend the Navy’s capability to intercept aerial targets at ranges comparable to (if not greater than) those achieved against naval targets using the baseline SM-6.
In essence, this new missile fills the gap left by the retirement of the AIM-54 Phoenix. The AIM-54 was a long-range air-to-air missile used by the U.S. Navy’s F-14 Tomcat and retired in 2004 alongside the F-14. Known for its impressive range of over 100 nautical miles and multiple-target engagement capability, the AIM-54 left a significant void in long-range engagement capabilities.
While there wasn’t a direct replacement for the AIM-54 Phoenix in terms of range, the U.S. military has been developing advanced air-to-air missiles to enhance its fighter aircraft capabilities. The AIM-260 Joint Advanced Tactical Missile (JATM) is one such development intended to replace the AIM-120 AMRAAM. Although not a direct replacement for the AIM-54 Phoenix, the AIM-260 aims to offer improved range and performance compared to the AIM-120.

Operationally deployed
The photo of the new weapon during a test flight in April 2024 was reportedly part of the testing that preceded the delivery of the AIM-174B to the squadron likely to carry out Operational Test and Evaluation (OT&E), a testing phase conducted on production, or production representative weapons, to determine whether systems are operationally effective and suitable to support a Full-Rate Production (FRP) decision.
In July, the U.S. Navy acknowledged that the AIM-174 is operationally deployed, likely in Initial Operating Capability (IOC) with the CVW-2 Air Wing’s Super Hornet squadrons aboard the USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70), as reported by Naval News. “The SM-6 Air Launched Configuration (ALC) was developed as part of the SM-6 family of missiles and is operationally deployed in the Navy today,” said a U.S. Navy spokesperson.
While the service acknowledged the existence and the deployment of the weapon, so far only the NAIM-174B inert, CATM-174B captive carry, and DATM-174B ground training variants were seen installed on aircraft. However, the fact that the Navy mentioned the weapon being operationally deployed implies that live variants might also been delivered.
The Navy did not disclose other details about the AIM-174. So far, we know the standard SM-6 missile is about 21 feet (6.4 meters) long and, using persons for scale in some of the few photos available, the AIM-174B seems to be of similar length. According to the stencils visible on the photos of the missile carried by the CVW-2 Super Hornets taking part in RIMPAC, the weapon weighs 1,890 lb ± 14 lb (857 kg ± 6 kg).
Thanks again to @point_mugu_skies for the photos he sent us and make sure to follow him on Instagram for more!

SERIOUS Custom:
1951 Studebaker Woodie - Never Slow Down - StreetRodder
Body
Gray Baskerville accurately described Dennis Varni as "a hot rodder's hot rodder." Since buying a '31 Model A as a teenager in the late '50s, Dennis doesn't seem to have slowed down ever. He has amassed a phenomenal stable of collector cars, trucks, vintage race cars, and motorcycles of practically every type, including the '29 Model A roadster built by Boyd Coddington that was named America's Most Beautiful Roadster in 1992. He has participated in motorsports all over the world, including numerous trips to Mexico to race in the famous La Carrera Panamericana, to South Africa for the South African Rally Championship, and to the Bonneville Salt Flats, right here in the U.S., where he drove his Falconer L6-powered "Speed Nymph" streamliner just shy of 350 mph.
Dennis has more checks on his hot rodding bucket list than just about anybody we know. So did you really expect his latest street rod to be something ordinary?
Body Bottom
Any 1951 Studebaker woodie custom could be considered out of the ordinary (how many can you think of?), but Dennis, builder Curt Hill, and the people who had previously helped create this custom woodie, have taken the '51 to an extraordinary level.
This car was under construction when Dennis made the winning bid for it at the auction of the late Joe MacPherson's prized collection. The unfinished project had been started by Doug Carr of Woodn' Carr. It had already been transformed from a sedan to a fastback (based on Thom Taylor's design sketches) and was already a woodie. The top was chopped 2-1/2 inches, and the rear fenders were stretched 18 inches and treated to custom taillight lenses and bezels. The '37 Ford headlights were installed by Steve Davis, who had done some of the early fabrication on the car.
Such an unusual car deserved an equally unique engine. For a while, Dennis considered dropping in a Cadillac engine to create his own version of the Studillac, the Cadillac-powered Stude coupes custom-built in the mid '50s. Then he remembered the one-of-a-kind induction system he'd found at a swap meet decades ago. The mechanical fuel injection system, with wild-looking air bodies, was a prototype created by Propulsion Development Laboratories in the '50s. Everybody had seen it on the cover of Hot Rod magazine in 1959 and nobody had seen it since. The setup is finally in service, feeding a Ford 427 FE engine. Dan Brewer in Torrance, California, did the assembly on the engine and converted the PDL mechanical injection to work with a Hilborn electronic system hidden under the manifold. Edelbrock cylinder heads are topped with Edsel valve covers to replicate the look engine on Hot Rod's cover. The new combination produced 410 hp on the dyno. An adapter fits the Ford to a GM 700-R4 transmission. This is one of the rarest, most unusual engines you'll find in a hot rod, but Dennis is almost nonchalant about it. "Nobody puts Edsels in Studebakers," is what he said.
The interior was entrusted to Sid Chavers in Santa Clara, California. Chavers built custom bucket seats and covered them in tan leather with gray-toned fur inserts. No need to replace the '51 Studebaker dash, so Redline Gauge Works restored the appearance of the factory gauges and updated the internals. A reproduction '54 Stude steering wheel came from Shrock Brothers, which specializes in repro Studebaker parts. Lucky 7 Customs gave the wheel and column their wood grain paint. The perfect accessory to the interior is the set of vintage alligator-grain luggage in the rear deck area, which Dennis found in an antique store in Washington.
The end result is a genuinely unique custom that would probably hover around the top of most people's lists of great Studebakers, great woodies, and great customs.

Bureau of Investigation Founded
SECRET SERVICE VETERANS JOIN STAFF. PROMISE TO ROOT OUT ORGANIZED CRIME.
The Attorney General has formed an autonomous investigative agency to be headed up by veteran law enforcement officer Edgar Ross in an attempt to track high profile and dangerous criminals. The Bureau will also be tasked with investigating financial fraud and other organized crimes.
Ross served for many years as a senior agent with the Pinkerton Detective Agency under the mentorship of the late Andrew Milton and then went on to work at the National Bureau of Criminal Identification, founded by the National Chiefs of Police Union in 1896, which was tasked to record information on criminals and gangs and work with law enforcement. He has been billed as one of the most humble, innovative and honest law enforcement officers of his class, and colleagues say that Ross produces results where others fail. Upon swearing in, he stated: "I want all criminals to know that here in America, everyone will eventually pay for what they have done."
Unrest in the Tropics
COST OF FOOD, FUEL ANGERS CITIZENS. SUGAR BARONS TO BLAME.
Island residents from Barbados to Cuba are experiencing soaring prices and short supply of food and fuel. They are blaming local politicians and sugar barons for the situation. Shortly after the political unrest in the area, including the assassination of prominent sugar industry advocate and Guarman governor Alberto Fussar in 1899, American banking institutions, including JD McKnight and Co., took control of the sugar industry on several islands, including Barbados, the Virgin Islands, and Guarma.
Fields which once flourished with locally grown foods and were used to feed the island nation suddenly switched to growing sugar cane. As a result of a single crop economy, all foodstuffs are imported, to great expense for local peoples. Foreign investors hire locals to guard and police their massive plantations, subjecting workers to harsh conditions and penalties.
Local groups argue that island residents are suffering the most, while businesses say heavy investments by American financial institutions have allowed for the revitalization of the local economies.
'We Are Helpless'
TOWNS DECRY UNCHECKED VIOLENCE. OUTLAW GANGS RUNNING RAMPANT. LED BY NOTORIOUS CRIMINAL MICAH BELL.
A cacophony of outrage has been building at the lawlessness that prevails in towns across the area. Numerous outlaw gangs seem to operate unchecked or unstoppable by law enforcement, rendering terrified citizens helpless. The reward for the killing or capture of infamous outlaw Micah Bell and his gang was recently increased by government officials in response to the unanimous outcry from citizens that something must be done about this murderous gang of thieves and killers.
Mr. Bell and his associates continue their spree of killing and robbing while running roughshod over law enforcement. His acts of lawlessness rival that of Van der Linde himself. They pay no debts and dynamite banks and buildings as a recreational pastime. Bell has long been a suspect in the Blackwater Bank Robbery and Strawberry massacre back in 1899 and numerous train robberies that have ended in dismemberment or death of passengers in the years since then. Little is known of Mr. Bell's origins.
Reverend Swanson Leads NY Church
DELIVERS POWERFUL MESSAGE
Reverend Orville Swanson was inducted into his official capacity as minister at the First Congregational Church of New York this week, having moved to the city to accept the position. A service was held and then a reception was given to celebrate the appointment. Encouraging reports from attendees indicate that Reverend Swanson delivered an impassioned and heartfelt sermon about acknowledging sin and seeking redemption. He spoke about his own break from faith, a dark period when he could not attend church, falling into sin, depravity and wanton gluttony.
He chronicled the period where he rediscovered his faith and began witnessing on street-corners, to then become assistant pastor at a church in Ohio and now New York. During his recent attendance at the Convention Meeting of First Congregational Churches he delivered a very moving oration, impressing attendees as an eloquent and persuasive speaker, and was almost immediately offered the position.
Tallulah Jetty Gang Killed
BANK RAIDED IN BROAD DAYLIGHT. CITIZENS FORM POSSE.
United States Marshal Fulkerton received a dispatch from Silver Springs indicating that after years of evading capture, the Tallulah Jetty Gang was chased down after a brazen bank robbery in broad daylight. After a series of outrages, including the killing of several women and elders, officers placed 200 men in pursuit of the gang, which was overtaken near Anadarko.
A combination force of Cherokee Indians and a militia formed after the bank robbery pursued the gang to a cave in the bluffs south of the area, where a spectacular gun battle took place, killing several officers. After a period of quiet, one man entered the cave where he found a gravely wounded William Bishop bleeding out next to deceased henchmen Harold Sutton and James Shaw.
Liquor Smuggled Into Indian Territory
DEPUTIES PURSUE OUTLAWS, ONE KILLED.
A dispatch received from Comanche Indian territory yesterday says that Deputy United States Marshal Tidwell and another deputy attempted to arrest Cletus Yarnell and Lawrence Branch for introducing intoxicating liquors into Indian Territory. The outlaws resisted arrest and a gun battle ensued, with Marshal Tidwell's horse being shot out from under him. The desperados fled into Indian territory and were pursued. Yarnell was mortally wounded, Branch was arrested.
Bubonic Plague in San Francisco
CITY STILL REELING AFTER EARTHQUAKE THAT KILLED 3,000.
After an earthquake that destroyed 80 percent of the city and killed over 3,000 people, the city of San Francisco now reports that a second epidemic of bubonic plague has broken out. It is believed the outbreak is due to the large number of rats in the area. Fleas from infected rats transmit the disease, resulting in fever symptoms, seizures, gangrene and necrosis of the extremities, along with, in many cases, death.
New Railroad Completed
A GRAND PROJECT OUR MANIFEST DESTINY
The final ties were laid and spikes driven through to complete the Central Union rail line stretching through New Hanover. Passengers will be able to bypass the Grizzlies, Rhodes, and Scarlett Meadows, drastically reducing travel time. Now with a direct line connecting Cornwall Kerosene and Tar and Saint Denis, freight and commuters will flow fast and freely.
The project came with complications, including controversy over missing workers' wages and a land dispute. Representatives from towns such as Van Horn Trading Post and Annesburg say the new line will result in the decline of their towns. Civic planners hail the railroad as a new dawning day in American progress and history.
The Art of Angling by Jeremy Gill
SOCKEYE SALMON.
Last year while fishing in the Alaskan territories, I soon discovered that a family of bears was fishing too, and one particularly angry Kodiak took exception to my overwhelming success of pulling dozens of Sockeye Salmon out of the water. I could not blame him; however, now his head sits sentry above my foyer with a salmon in its mouth, a testament to the hunter becoming the hunted.
In cold streams, and particularly in the Grizzlies, salmon will strike river lures and are possibly the best tasting fish you can bring home for supper. They are so plentiful you may take as many as you like with no consequence. Happy casting.

Toyota Supra Upgrades: A Guide by Toyota of N Charlotte
Are you looking to upgrade your Supra?
This sports car is already iconic, but there are lots of ways you can customize your ride and make it your own! Our N Charlotte auto care experts are here to talk about Toyota Supra exhaust, turbos, air intake, and more!
Selecting Your Toyota Supra Exhaust
Which Toyota Supra exhaust you choose should depend on why you want one. Your new Toyota Supra exhaust will make the vehicle louder, more powerful, and it can increase airflow or improve fuel efficiency. Here are some things to look out for when choosing:
When it comes to material, you want to stick with stainless steel or aluminized steel. Stainless steel is resistant to high temperatures, corrosion, and rust, and aluminized steel is just a lighter, cheaper option.
Make sure the piping diameter is not too narrow or too wide. This will affect gas flow and performance.
Ensure that you have the correct model for your car and get the installation done by a mechanic you trust.
Selecting Your Toyota Supra Turbo
Looking to increase the power and torque of your car? A new Toyota Supra turbo may be the perfect upgrade for you. Here are some tips from our N Charlotte Toyota team on choosing your new Toyota Supra Turbo.
Decide what horsepower range you’re aiming for before purchasing a Toyota Supra turbo. Also, ensure your car has the traction to handle the turbo you choose.
Think about the thermodynamics involved with increasing power. You don’t want a turbo that will push the temperature up too high when maximizing forced induction.
Make sure the compressor and turbo you choose can push a lot of air into the engine’s cylinders.
Selecting Your Toyota Supra Air Intake
Similar to Toyota Supra turbos, the Toyota Supra air intake system uses air to create more power in the engine. Below are some things to think about when choosing a new N Charlotte Toyota Supra air intake:
Cold air intakes are better for performance because cold air is more rich in oxygen, which enhances combustion.
There are two types of styles with cold Toyota Supra air intakes (short ram and true).
The short ram requires less fabrication work since you can access the air filter more easily.
The true cold pushes the air as far forward as possible but might require more “plumbing” and fabrication.
You want to choose a Toyota Supra air intake that matches your car model and year. This will ensure easy installation.
You want to go for heat resistant materials. You want it to stay cold in your engine, but also not hot in your air intake system.
Using straight hoses in your Toyota Supra air intake system is more efficient for airflow than curved hoses.
You want to select a weather and water resistant system. Any water that gets inside the system can cause a huge engine failure.

Long story short I haven’t had gas in my apartment since October. The building has had people come in my apartment on and off to try and fix shit. We’re so close now we just need approval to turn the gas back on and to paint the place. I’ve been staying with my parents for about a month and just got back today.
The kitchen is simply unusable right now. I’d been making it work w it h an induction burner and toaster oven, but everything is covered in plastic and the only way into the kitchen is through the service entrance in the fire stairs. Tell me why I came home and the door was just… wide open. Literally. No one was in my apartment, the service door and the front door were unlocked and the service door was just wide fucking open. I’ve left a message and complained to the appropriate people but now I’m off to an interval run with no fuel other than my anger cause I couldn’t get a snack from my own damn kitchen

33 + 39!
33. How do they learn about the world–what is their preferred learning style? Hands-on learning with trial and error? Research, reading, and note-taking? Observation or rote memorization? Inductive or deductive reasoning? Seeking patterns and organization? Taking things apart and putting them back together? Creative processing via discussing, writing about, or dramatizing things?
Hands on with observation! Without a doubt, I think this guy is a tactile learner. A lot of it is just theory obviously, especially given how he made his own Ancient Dragon Cult incantation ( which is a feat in and of itself no one gives him enough credit for ), but I think through watching and then doing, he learns. Like when it comes to fighting other people, he will memorize your attack patterns by moving with you, before then switching it up at last minute because he knows what you will do next. With those close to him, he will move with him, often mirroring them before taking that and putting his own spin on a move, or on an attack, to make it his own. ( if you're going: hey max, that sounds like mimic behavior. and I'll say: nooo ... can't be.. ... .. .. eheh ). And in creating his own incantation, and how it mirrors closely another Ancient Dragon incantation ( re: Dragonbolt Blessing ), thus making it his own to tailor to his needs. It's very internal learning though, where if he is training with someone or if someone is showing him something, the only thing he'd likely say to them is just to show him again as he moves with them. any talking will simply just distract him.
39. What sort of questions or thoughts recur in their lives, either specifically or as a theme? Why are these never answered, or answered permanently to their satisfaction?
For a good portion, Vyke is the first one to question himself and his path ( whether it be the right one or not ), which is why I believe is the main reason why he seems to move from one thing to another with little convincing. Golden Order > Dragon Cult > Frenzied Flame. He always wants to do some kind of good, he always wants to help, so he listens to people and takes them at their word at the very detriment to himself. But with that, he questions himself constantly: is this right, is this what I'm supposed to be doing, is this what is needed, etc. etc. I would say it is a theme to him through and through, what makes Vyke Vyke in the essence of a man made to be in service of others, and thus why he fell from grace, so to speak. Because while he looks sure of himself and often acts like it, there is always the thought in the back of his mind that asks: are you sure? all the time. It's even where sometimes when someone's voice ( mostly from those who are close to him ) mirrors that question, Vyke digs his heels in and claims that he is, that this is what is needed, or right, or what he wants to do, giving little thought to if that is despite the twisting feeling in the pit of his stomach that never goes away.
Though, I will say, I think they are finally answered right before the moment he gets grabbed by the Three Fingers. With how the burns on his armor looks, and the damage to his spear, I've gone with the theory that Vyke turned away from them, that he thought of escaping before he was grabbed and pulled back, only to be burned with the frenzy itself despite fighting it. There is a stark realization that this is not right, wanting to get away from it as he struggles from the grasp and the ceaseless flames that are now rooted deep within him. I believe it goes back and forth after that ( he has his answer, but he doesn't want to take it ), the regret is fast taking hold of him instead, but Shabriri needs him to push forward and become their Lord. All while the grief, the grief is such a thing that cannot be denied inside of him, it fuels the flame. Shabriri is now the voice in his head, saying not to let his Maiden's life be in vain, that he is still doing what is right. But regret, there is so much regret, he sees her blood on his hands, her corpse on that chair ...
I don't take the theory that he imprisoned himself because it's an odd one that doesn't make sense to me, given where his evergaol is in the first place. But I do think he made it easy for those hunting him to capture him be it a firm decision on his part or something that just happened, it can go either way. Here's a man at his prime, ready to see it through, only to get dragged into a place where time and space do not matter. It is only when he is deep within the evergaol that he finally takes the answer he was given at the sight of the Three Fingers. Away from the Outer God's influence, with a somewhat clear mind, he reflects. Hindsight and all that, gives the nightmares fuel.
#— study.#i hope these make sense ngl because i realized i just started rambling#as i tend 2 do when talking about this guy ghjfsghkjs#and in looking up the incant....i saw something from the dlc .. .. that now makes me sad ahah . ... .. . hhh#these dragons are making me Depressed#but thank you sm sm for this!! im holding ur hand rn
