I specified the guy was white because race is a physical descriptor like many others that helps people visualize a scene. I think avoiding race in descriptive work is a faux pas, personally; the avoidance of describing a trait that is so important to many people's interactions with the world and others in the name of inclusivity only serves to obfuscate information from visually impaired people that others experience readily. Additionally, avoiding bias in transcription work often means you waste a lot of time on parts of a description that could have been significantly truncated. In this case, I could have said "a pale-skinned male-presenting person with short light-colored hair", which is perhaps not 'biased' but is a line and a half of text about a scene that really isn't the focus here. In my pinned I have a link to an essay (Against Access by John Lee Clark) that shaped a good portion of my philosophy on description and accessibility that should illuminate my goals here.

Another thing: my saying that the playing-guitar-for-his-cat guy in the video you're talking about was white is the first time I've ever gotten people asking me why I included someone's race in a description, and you are not the only one. Never had a similar reaction to me specifying that a musician was black, or to me specifying that someone operating a sampan was a Chinese man. It's weird to me, honestly. Is it because "white guy" isn't seen as a physical descriptor? Is it because "white" is considered a default and specification is only necessary when someone diverges from that default? Or is it because the guy-plays-guitar-for-his-cat post has circulated in communities my descriptions have never reached before? Whatever the reason, I find it very weird.

Hey, different post than usual, but this is just a PSA for people who may follow or have purchased anything from @/kagebros, or are looking to join any of the zines run by them @/allsparkzines. They have a history (and present) of tracing for profit.

I don’t think this one requires an overlay. It’s a trace of the yolopark bumblebee shockwave model kit promotional image, as a “sketch”.

Which they changed, once people noticed it! Changed most of it. They traced a different promotional image for the gun, which remained largely the same, even in the final piece (right).

Their matching Optimus Prime poster is a trace of the still from a [ Paramount promo video ], 36 seconds in.

There are several other examples that I can’t fit into this post without making it overly long, but if you have purchased or have been gifted anything from them, there is a chance it has been traced.

Regarding tracing as a tool:

Go hogwild! Trace all you want! Tracing is a very useful tool for learning shapes and forms, but like any other tool, it’s only useful if you use it correctly. The ultimate goal of tracing is to understand. It’s training wheels. Just don’t hide and lie about it, because as soon as you do, it becomes plagiarism.

Even within the finished versions of the Shockwave poster, it’s still clear where parts have been traced or copied without understanding. It’s a shame, because transformers as a franchise having so many toys makes it very easy to make references!

Here's an example of how I use them:

Luckily for me, the Cybertron toys and models are more or less exactly the same. I don't own the toys, so I have two images from a [ toy reviewer ] on top. Many angles to help me understand exactly what's happening. Granted, I could just ask my friend who does own the toy for him in the same pose, but tracing over that directly would make it too stiff and it wouldn't mesh with my style.

TL;DR: Kage traces, blindly and without disclosure, for profit.

hello, I'm making this post as of 10/13/2024 with a tldr of; my teeth are shot to hell and back and it's making it hard to even Function right now with the amount of pain I'm in

the longer version is; my wisdom teeth have been erupted for a good while now, minus the bottom left which came in essentially sideways. a few years ago poor genetics and worse dental habits from depression started to catch up to them though. the top two wisdom teeth are basically gone, the bottom right is going and the top left molar is starting to crack at the base.

up until recently the pain has been manageable with OTC medication + antibiotics have helped the couple times things got really bad.

unfortunately it's now getting to the point of being almost unmanageable, Advil + Tylenol does enough to take the edge off but it's still a lot of pain making it hard to function or focus. plus it's just Draining hurting this much

ive been looking into free/cheap places for extractions but a lot are either extremely difficult to get into, still expensive or just straight up don't do wisdom teeth

i can't really give a tangible goal because it's been awhile since I talked to the dentist but they said it could be in the upper $3000’s (and this was before it all got really bad) but like I said I'm trying to find cheaper alternatives
