can we please stop making cars where the BRAKING AND GEAR SHIFT SYSTEMS ARE CONTROLLED BY _SOFTWARE?_ just read the second article in a year about someone in my town whose car got stuck accelerating, the brake didn't work, shifting into neutral didn't work, and they had to get cops to disable the vehicle.
seriously, what the fuck? why are auto manufacturers allowed to sell cars where the software freezing can end in a car uncontrollably speeding at 100+mph down a city street?

This hummer EV is 9,000 pounds and accelerates from 0-60 in 3 seconds- so fast the tires spin out. It also has a super high hood, so even tall people will end up getting struck in the chest or higher. A kid will go right under the wheels.. If the person driving can even see the kid, because they'll need like a billion meters of front clearance to see anything in front of them! (See for yourself by drawing a line from the driver's head position to where the ground would be, notice how long that line needs to be if it doesn't intersect with the hood.)
Now imagine it on public streets around dozen of pedestrians, and imagine crossing the street in front of it.
#this timeline is bananas WE'RE GOING THE WRONG WAY#these vehicles have ZERO mcfucking place in cities#the bed isn't even big compared to a truck from decades ago which says everything you need to know about this garbo#hummer ev#fuck cars#fuckcars#urban planning#cars#car dependence#infrastructure#city planning

I don't think the people on r/fuckcars understand that someone could live in a place that
1. Does not have a bus system or any other public transport
2. Does not live close to stores
3. Does not have the money for bike equipment
#roodle speaks#r/fuckcars#i agree with what the subreddits trying to do but#the people on there can be so uninformed

I think a major reason why Inter-City Passenger Rail isn’t taken seriously by a lot of Americans; is that a lot of its most dedicated advocates, seem to have this hatred of cars that borders on psychotic, and I think that hatred distracts both themselves from properly expounding the potential benefits of ICPR, and others from seriously considering those potential benefits.
I myself have no hatred for cars -I’m actually quite fond of them- I just recognize that this countries over reliance on them has been detrimental over all, so maybe I just have a skewed perspective; but when I see someone going on an anti-car tirade and say that trains are better; i get the impression that the pro-train aspect was just an afterthought, like they didn’t actually care about trains that much at all, and just wanted to be angry at cars.
I’m not really sure how to end this, I will say though, if the railways play their cards right; they can coexist with highways, in such a way that both can benefit from it.
And isn’t everyone winning better than someone losing?
I’ll probably made another post at some point explaining how that could work, if I can find the mental energy for it.
