I had a coworker compare it to a disease, “we can just ride it out and it’ll be better at the end” and I really thought that was a bad analogy at first, and a bit heartless.

The more I think about it the better an analogy it is, wealthy people survive disease, people whose doctors don’t dismiss or misdiagnose them survive disease. Anyone not in an advantageous position…doesn’t. Just like covid, people less able to access care, avoid the situation, etc will either die or be permanently changed.

So yeah sure, “it’s like a disease” sure. That’s an analogy I can accept. But assuming everyone is going to make it through is still heartless.

If I have to see one more “we survived him before we can do it again” post I’m going to scream.

So many people didn’t. So many more people are going to die. Women are going to bleed out in parking lots because doctors are scared to give them the abortion they need. Migrates are going to die in detention centers. Kids are going to have their parents ripped away in mass deportations. Potentially millions of people are going to lose their healthcare.

Yes, we keep fighting, but don’t say we survived before. A lot of people didn’t.
