I am getting very fucking sick and tired of media writers fucking over their audience, like our lives here in reality don't suck enough.

ward and rafe both throwing money at barry (or at the ground in front of him) is something very casually sinister imo.
firstly it's important to establish the class disparity between them. we know the camerons are wealthy (big home on obx, another in the bahamas, several cars, dressings of wealth and luxury). conversely, we know barry is not (he lives in a trailer, wears clothes that are worn/older-looking, has money from dealing but obviously owes someone else for the supply). even when we look at the obx map, tannyhill is at the furthest point away from the Cut as possible could be (as deep into Figure 8 as you can get), and barry's trailer is about as far away from Figure 8 as possible (its even right on the furthest border of "livable" land in the Cut before it turns to marshes).
from the literal opposite poles that these two reside on, it draws the implication of it being The Richest Of The Rich (camerons) and The Poorest Of The Poor (barry). i do think there are certainly people poorer than barry, but that's not really the point i'm trying to make here. all i mean is that we are explicitly told/shown the class differences between barry vs. the camerons.
so, to the money throwing. in another post, i talked abt how throwing money the way the camerons do is indicative of the value they have for individual bills being significantly less than the value they have for their whole accumulated wealth. it's less than pennies to them. but before ward and rafe throw money at barry, they both have a moment where they kind of hold the money up and wave it at barry, almost tauntingly, the way you'd tease a dog with a treat.
and then, instead of handing him the money, they toss it onto the ground in front of him. again, this shows how little that money means to them. also, in throwing it on the ground, they just expect barry to bend over backwards to pick it up.
it's incredibly cruel and dehumanizing to taunt someone who can't afford to just literally toss money around with it and then make them get on their hands and knees to pick money up off the ground. there's an obvious hierarchy and power imbalance here.
when ward throws the money at barry, barry gives him shit and says "pick up my money", which ward obviously doesn't. this then creates a moment of tension and chicken between them. who will cow first? who will be the one to get the money?
in the end, it's barry. ward could've thrown that money (and more) on the ground and just walked away, and it wouldn't've made a dent in his bank account. the same cannot be said for barry. so barry gets on his hands and knees and starts picking up the money while ward stands over him, literally looking down at the humiliating scenario he's forced barry into. (and then he kicks the shit out of him but that's another post)
when rafe throws the money at barry, barry's obviously not interested in whatever rafe is trying to rope him into. and then rafe tells him "you know why [you'll do this]? because you'll do anything for money." tossing in barry's face that he will ultimately do what rafe wants so long as he pays because barry needs the money enough that he will subject himself to rafe's whims.
the money ends up in a pile on the ground, which barry once again is forced to get down and pick up. rafe throws it and walks away, like he doesn't need or care about that money (he doesn't), and like he knows that barry is in a position where he does need that money.
and yet again, barry is subjected to this humiliating act of picking up money thrown at him by someone to whom that money means nothing. it's so fucking cruel.
the conversations about class in outer banks are soooo fascinating, and honestly i wish they'd dive into it more, with more nuance. and the potential conversation about race and class would be even more fascinating. alas, these are conversations that have to come from reading between the lines. :/ such is life

it’s sweet on paper but rafe’s family man plan is not going to work out.
let’s take a page from inception’s book and reverse rafe’s deepest want into a simple idea.
rafe wants to be a great father and pillar of he community like his father
the problem with that is his father was not a great man or a good father. ward was not good to all of his kids equally, rafe was his only son and ward intentionally or not withheld affection from him and gave him tough love when he needed a shoulder to cry on, was physically abusive at times and ignored his symptoms of mental illness for god knows how long (yes rose says he’s been doing this since rafe was ten but it could’ve been longer).
he loved sarah and favored her but was controlling and manipulative.
he loved wheezie but was neglectful enough that she noticed sarah was the “favorite”.
ward cameron was a deeply flawed man and rafe’s inability to see that will be his doom because he will make the same mistakes his father did.
rafe wants to be someone people respect and trust
rafe’s need for respect, in my opinion, comes from his need for his father’s affection. i know i know it all goes back to ward no but really rafe wants respect and trust because he’s a person duh but also because in his eyes it will prove him worthy to his father and his doubters that think he will never be shit but it’s mostly the father thing. rafe isn’t power hungry, i’m sure he would like power because power = safety and sometimes even respect but that’s not why he wants respect and trust. he believes that he can do better and be better so he wants to be recognized for his creativity and intelligence.
rafe wants to be good
rafe at his core wants to be a good person. it seems like a childish thing to want especially considering rafe’s emotional immaturity and that’s exactly what it is, a child’s dream. throughout the show rafe talks about wanting to get better, he wants to get clean, he wants to be kinder to his sisters, he wants to be trusted, he wants responsibility, he believes good men have all these things and it goes right back to his father. in his mind, good men have families, they have the respect of their communities, they’re loved.
the problem is rafe as he is right now is incapable of being a good father/husband. he needs to change, stop trying to be like his father, take responsibility for what he’s done and the people he’s hurt, and mature past his childish thinking. i don’t think this is gonna happen though so i’m excited to see whether the writers will have him either become like his father or a different beast entirely.

there’s also just Something About female characters who are jealous of the men around them for getting to behave in certain ways that they just can’t. like you can just act like that? you don’t have to maintain a carefully curated and constructed image of yourself to present to the world so people don’t treat you like shit? i’m not gonna universalize but i do believe most women feel this way at least at some point in their lives, i feel it all of the time and it drives me fucking insane

I'm also here to praise you for continuing to write for Jara i seen so many writers i love saying they'll never write for them again and break my heart but I understand it. You can take your time writing the next chapter me and the others will be waiting for it. 💖
Make no mistake, I will NEVER write a post season 4 cannon fic in my life. You couldn’t pay me. But I refuse to give up on these characters.
I think everyone is just really raw and hurting. I imagine we will all come back and circle around jiara once again. Just give it time ❤️
Thank you for your patience. My goal is to write everyday, even if it’s just a couple hundred words. Not stopping!
Jiara forever ❤️

i’ll always love u victims of the “snobby rich morally gray asshole with a secret heart of gold who gets cheated on (and repeatedly strung along even after breaking up) by their high school sweetheart that they’re unhealthily in love with and codependent on, and yet is supposed to be seen by the audience as “deserving it” as punishment for their own toxicity in the relationship (even tho their partner was just as bad to them if not worse) and afterwards undergoes significant character development and personal growth only for it to be undone to turn them back into a one note, shallow, antagonistic version of themselves that’s almost a caricature of what they started as, who gets with some other random character that they have absolutely no chemistry with simply cuz the writers don’t know wtf to do with them anymore and don’t give a shit about them, and doomed to never truly grow out of their old ways or get over their cheating ex who’s terrible for them” trope

there's still hope for season four. hear me out: jj has finally gotten over the internalized homophobia from growing up with his dad and realizes that it wasn't kie he wanted, hasn't been the whole time. it was pope. so him and kie break up and kie (hopefully realizes she's a lesbian and) starts dating a new character who has a personality but doesn't really matter to the plot. meanwhile, sarah and john b have been having problems and sarah has been confiding in cleo. boom she catches feelings and breaks up with john b for cleo and this whole time jj has been giving his puppy dog eyes to pope so cleo and pope decide to break up and go after the others.

Listen, I get y'all are mad about JJ (I am too), but the fact that someone said It should have been John B Is TWISTED-
How about Rafe?? It should have been Rafe. Or just no deaths at all??
JJ's death pissed me off too, but don't go saying that It should have been another one of the pogues. None of the pogues should have died. Plus, John B Is LITERALLY the main character. I know y'all tend to Ignore him, but It's still his show at the end of the day
All In all, don't go wishing death on the other character that's EQUALLY AS TRAUMATIZED as JJ was. NONE OF THEM SHOULD HAVE DIED
Thank you for coming to my TED Talk

kinda want for season 4 for jj to be happy for at least a moment and relish in the fact that he has kiara and she loves him. he always saw himself as too little and not good enough for kiara which is why he never made a move and would push her to others so idk i want him to be strike with the fact he has someone to rely on. waking up in the morning and seeing kiara there and just have that moment to breathe.
Listen, as a JJ stan, I want that too. 100%. As a fic writer and certified sadist, I also kind of want to see him struggle before he gets to that point. Don't get me wrong, nonnie, I would scream, cry, and break through walls if we got --
HANG ON NO BECAUSE WHAT IF --
what if in season four we see JJ getting up early cause he's angsty and can't sleep and he's like, staring out the window and then and then Kie comes up behind him all tired and sleepy and is like 'g'mornin' as she tucks her arms under his shoulders and cuddles into his back and kisses his shoulder blade and we see his face split open by this impossible, beautiful grin (you know the one, rudy's big ol smile) and he just says 'hey Kie' all soft and lifts up his arm to tuck her under it and he kisses her on the forehead and shes standing there under his arm, pressed against his side, one hand on his chest and the other around his shoulder/upper arm and she's like 'hey, you okay?' and he smiles and says 'Got a lot on my mind' and she leans up to kiss him all soft and slow and morning-tired and says 'we'll get through it together' and he just says 'yeah. together.'
anyway I'm gonna go set myself on fire.

‘“Cuz I love him, man, yknow?”
They were all high. And mostly drunk. They’d all been mixing weed and alcohol for five-to-ten years depending- they weren’t about to stop now- and it was the only plausible way that JJ would ever be talking about his father.
And he’d only ever do it around them.
He got two agreeable hums and an “aah-huh”.
They did know.
And it was the best he’d felt in a long while.’
A little paragraph for funsies (:
Gotta love the Bad Dad Gang
JJ, Sarah and Cleo should really talk properly in canon- ohhhhhhhhhh wait.
Kie and John B don’t REALLY fit into this? I mean Big John could deeeeefinetely have charges for abandonment, and Mike has the whole Kitty Camp thing, but it was 100% for her because he wants what’s best for her and he loves her (and not in the creepy ass, terrifyingly high-key obsessive way that Ward does w his kids). Like it was shit, but it was a good(?) dad move.
And ofc Pope doesn’t fit at all.
We love Mr Heyward in this household

Wow, OBX writers really just pulled the Steve Blackman card on their show too, haven't they? I am cancelling Netflix, their writers are horrible, lazy and unjust to their characters and stories. Milking out the money of everything and not caring about the fanbase at all...
