“Rosie!” he called across the empty common room, making grabby-hand motions towards Evan. “I missed you!”

Evan walked slowly towards where Barty was lying sprawled out on an armchair. His face split into a wide grin as he gazed up at him. Evan’s brow furrowed. “The hell happened to you?” Barty smiled and reached for him. “Reg said he wanted a hic- distraction? I dunno but he had firewhiskey!” his tongue lolled out of his mouth as he continued to stare up at Evan in wonder.

Evan groaned, gently smoothing his fingers down the side of Barty’s face. You are a dead man James Potter. “so you asked zero questions and blindly agreed to get piss drunk with an already frustrated Regulus?” his fingers came to a rest under barty’s chin, and barty nuzzled into them in lieu of answering, nipping at the curve of his thumb. “Bat” Evan huffed out a laugh despite himself, trying to fight the smile blooming on his face. Barty laughed loudly and unapologetically, still high on the alcohol buzz. He turned his head again and started pressing gentle kisses up and down the inside Evan’s palm and wrist, paying special attention the the thin white scar from an unfortunate incident with barty and a suit of armour in fourth year. Evan pulled his arm away, face flushed.

“We are in the common room!” he hissed, glancing around to make sure they weren’t being watched, but seeing as it was nearly dusk there was no one around.

Barty pouted, blinking up at him through his lashes, eyes wide. “embarrassed of me Rosie?” he asked, reaching out to pull him down so the two of them were in a tangled heap on the chair. Evan let out a muffled huff of protest, trying to right himself.

Barty sat up into the chair, Evan settled snugly in his lap, causing the blond boy to blush from his ears down to his collar. Barty closed his teeth around evan’s earlobe, pulling on the earring there. He and Evan had pierced each others' ears at the end of last year. Barty’s dad hated it. Barty loved it. He nibbled up the shell of evan’s ear, placing gentle kisses at the top. Evan squirmed and laughed, pulling at barty’s hair. He reached for Barty’s jaw and pulled him in for a slow kiss, his fingers returning to his hair, but brushing gently now. He rested their foreheads together as he pulled away. “Happy now?” Barty hummed softly in response, pulling evan back against his chest and nuzzling his head into the crook of his neck. “M’all good sweetheart” he breathed out softly, Evan shivering at the gentle brush of lips against his neck. He turned and placed a sweet kiss on Barty’s cheek. “Okay baby.”

They sat there for a while, enjoying each others warmth and company. Every so often barty would place soft kisses on evan’s neck, his arms wrapped securely around his front. Almost possessively. Evan loved when barty got like this. When he’d had just enough alcohol he was syrupy sweet but still aware enough to not destroy everything within 50 feet of him. (He had done that last year. Completely tore up his bed hangings because he thought they were ‘attacking him.’ He had slept in Evan’s bed for nearly a month. Evan wasn’t complaining.)

He turned is head to look around the slytherin common room. It was past dusk now, so it was almost deserted. Only them and a small huddle of third years who weren’t paying them any mind. “Now where has reggie gotten himself hm?” evan hummed , turning to look at the boy behind him. As if summoned, a very drunk, very annoyed looking Regulus burst into the common room. He was grumbling something about “fucking honourable Potter” and “not even that drunk” as he marched over to the couch and slumping onto it headfirst. Evan raised an eyebrow at him, sharing an amused look with barty.

“So,” barty started, scooting forward on the chair and waggling his eyebrows at Regulus. “Who we murdering tonight? Potter you said?” Evan guffawed loudly as a pillow hit him square in the face.

Evan halts. With a sceptic look, he draws away.

"What?"

Barty licks his lips, staring up at him. His skin is heated, his chest still heaving, and sweat glitters dimly under the small light he had set up before pushing Evan onto the bed. This is not a conversation they should have mid-fuck.

"You heard me."

"Yes, I fucking heard you."

Evan leans back. His hands, which had held Barty's face mere seconds ago, are falling to his side. He cannot be serious right now.

But Barty won't budge.

"Just think about it, Rosie!" he says, sitting back up. Only now does Evan notice how widely Barty's pupils are blown open. "We could be the greatest fucking wizards alive! No one would talk down on us ever again. No one would decide over our heads ever again. All they'll do is quiver in fear once they hear our names. I know you're just as fed up with all this shit as I am. This is our chance! Our way out!"

Evan shakes his head. "You're mad."

"And what if I'm mad?" Barty grips Evan's arms, his nails digging into his skin. "You said it yourself, Evan! You want to come out on top! To be the best of the fucking best! Who else could teach us if not the darkest of the dark?"

"And die in a war, that was never our business to begin with?" Evan scoffs. "Yeah, right. I know you hate your dad, but Riddle is not a tad better."

"You're just scared. You know that I'm right."

Now, Evan glares at him.

"I'm not fucking scared!" he spits. "But, unlike you, I know how fucking stupid this is! You want to play dog on a leash? Fine. That's your decision. But I won't let you drag me into this. This is bollocks."

Barty looks away. A muscle is feathering in his jaw.

"I'm going to do it", he mutters darkly. "With or without you."

Rosekiller Headcanons Pt. 2

Part 1

These may be out of order or be repeating from pt 1 but it’s only cuz I got excited…

Annnyyyyywayyyyy…. HERE WE GO!!

* Barty would be that type of person to have a thought process along the lines of “Evan deserves someone better than [insert name of whoever Evan is currently dating here]. If it were me dating him, I’d treat him much better.”

* And then he would proceed to not think on that any harder.

* Every time Barty gets an angry owl from his dad, he gets so overwhelmed by anger to the point being called by their name makes him want to scream. So all his friends start calling him "idiot" "pretty boy" "raccoon" "dumbass" respectivly until he calms down.

* lets not get it twisted, evan was 100% crazier than barty.

* Before they got together Barty would beg Pandora to make flower crowns so he could give them to Evan. If the flower crowns were from anyone else Evan would burn them on the spot. But anything from Barty he cherished forever.

* The second barty would come bounding up the hill towards him in spring, flower crown in hand, Evan would smile gently as Barty placed it on his head with such pride and joy.

* After they got together, Barty made Panda teach him how to make them so he could do it himself.

* Evan spends half his time saying "shut the fuck up" to Barty because weird stupid shit always falls out of his mouth

* When Evan came over the next summer Barty was so proud to show him the roses he grew just for him.

i love jegulus & haters can suck it

saw this reddit post from last month and got really heated and then this rant came to be

it's crazy to me how people who are in the mauraders fandom (specifically more canon-mauraders fans) have such a strong hatred towards jegulus. first of all literally please grow up it's a fucking fictional world about wizards first and foremost. IT'S NOT REAL ANYWAY. but like y'all are shitting on people having fun with people creating characterizations for a character(s) that in all honesty, jk rowling only used to further her plot to help the good guys and were nothing more than black and white bad guys or random names of people who were friends but didn't matter enough to be anything more than names.

the fact that the one main issue some have with jegulus is that there is no way that regulus and james would never have interacted with each other which is honesty, truly a stupid take. even during harry's years we see him interact with people who are in the years above and below him so to think that james never interacted with regulus at any point during their time at hogwarts is ridiculous. not only would he have met regulus during his second year because honestly to think that sirius would not have introduced his younger brother to his friends is kinda dumb and you obviously don't have a good sense of who he is as a character in my opinion. sirius would still have treated regulus as his little brother, would have wanted to share his friends with him. i don't care how they differed later on, it didn't happen over night and it probably didn't happen until after regulus started at hogwarts and got more and more indoctrinated with the other slytherins.

now later on when regulus starts to get involved with the death eaters, and as he goes through his time in slytherin yeah they probably didn't interact much. BUT again, who is to say they didn't end up in the library at the same time, they didn't interact with each other through smack talk about quiddich, weren't in similar clubs, hell weren't in prefect meetings together. you truly act like they will never have seen each other ever, that james and regulus will never have said a single thing to each other.

another point jegulus haters love to try and make is that sirius hated regulus and that regulus (barty and evan too) are bad people. in canon they killed people, they were death eaters. first of all again it's fanfiction, it does not have to have a damn ounce of whatever is in canon. second is that there is not one time in the entire series that sirius says that he hates regulus. he says that he was naive and believed everything his parents said. THAT is canon. THAT is what can be literally found written by the terf herself. also to reduce regulus (and again barty and evan) to their actions like "they killed people" and that's all there is to say about that is dumb. yes in canon, they killed people. evan and barty are confirmed to have killed people. regulus with the fact that he was a death eater most likely killed people. that is not anything we negate as people who like jegulus. what we do though is take that and create characters who are able to fucking have more depth than the bad shit they did after having been indoctrinated into a cause that they were made to believe was the correct way of thinking since literal birth and then continued to get hammered into them for years and years at school and at home. like yeah they were kinda shitheads, but let me be honest, barty is always portrayed as a shithead, he's a little crazy, gets into trouble, might have some messed up morals, he's also got a shit home life, his dad kinda sucks and that doesn't mean he can't be a good friend, doesn't mean he can't love someone, can't be loved, can't be silly, can't be smart. the exact same thing happens for evan. he's the same as regulus raised in a pureplood slytherin household. like what else was he going to think? but again does that mean he can't have more depth, doesn't deserve love? can't be a good friend? can't be silly? then we've got regulus. yeah he can be cold, take no shit, be kind of pretentious, but you know what he can also be babygirl. he can love, he can have love, he can be anxious, he can change his mind after learning that the way that he was brought up was shit. they all can need comfort and need their friends and ride or die for their friends. like none of that negates either point.

now the biggest thing that gets to me and makes me really heated is when people shit on jegulus and say it doesn't make sense then have the gall to like drarry but then say the paralle between jegulus and drarry is wrong.....how the actual fuck does that makes sense. regulus and draco are so much like each other. not only because narcissa is someone regulus grew up around and was also bought into the same bullshit he did and married someone who was just as in deep if not more into the whole volemort love fest, but you think they aren't the same? they don't have the same ideals? they didn't have to go to the same type of pureblood parties and dinners? like draco wasn't around people who were death eaters from the jump? like even more than regulus probably was given the time he was born. like no the only difference between draco and regulus is that one had actual loving parents who cared about him and the other was born into a family where his parents were cousins and definitely only had kids to carry on the family name and nothing else.

my last thing is that people act like regulus doesn't have any redemption in what he does with the locket. like yeah fine he probably only went after voledemort because of what he did to kreature but like okay and? he obviously wasn't indoctrinated as much as y'all love to claim he was the same way lucius wasn't as loyal as everyone thought either bc they knew that that loyalty only ran so far. this man hurt someone they loved and THAT meant more to them than this war and pureblood culture. like so i think regulus had some room to actually become like fanon regulus where he's able to see a different side of things. he's able to get away from that deeply ingrained prejudice. you know the same way draco does at the end of the series. but like y'all can only care and love and vouch for draco bc he's still alive god forbid we want to see a character that was killed off at 17 trying to destroy the one thing that he could to get revenge and hurt voldemort.

all in all let's be real clear it's fucking fiction. you guys are allowed to hold dear something that has meant so much to you for years because of course harry potter has meant a lot to a lot of people and still does despite jk rowling being a terf and bigott. but that doesn't mean you get to police or shit on how other people interact with that content because they find are also finding solace and fun and enjoying shit the same way you are and that means something to them.

please just just let people ship and enjoy what they want. it doesn't have to make sense to you. it doesn't need to be your cup of tea. if you and others aren't being genuinely hurt by it shut! up!

oh i have been waiting for this day i have so many thoughts about them

they absolutely despise one another but start hooking up after a gryffindor party, everyone is very confused (including them)

sirius is humiliated that he slept with one of his brother's friends and swears it will never happen again (it happens again, immediately)

they are the most toxic fuckers you have ever met

attached at the hip. never not touching. will fully start making out with tongue while you're in the middle of talking to one of them. however they both vehemently deny that they even like one another

regularly make out/flirt with other people to make the other jealous and it kind of becomes a competition to see who can take it farther and who can care less

james and regulus try to get them to break up after a week. this only spurs them on ('will you please stop fucking my brother?' 'fuck you, i'm going to fuck your brother even harder')

they get into the most random dangerous shit together and james loses sleep over it ('barty found this herb in the forbidden forest so we're going to smoke it and see if we die')

all of their friends want them to break up because they quite literally bring out the worst in each other. the only person who's supportive is dorcas and it's in a very do whatever you want, it's not my business type of way

their favorite activity is horrifying people by telling them weird fucked up things their dads have done

they refuse to put any sort of label on it and assure people it's purely physical even though they spend all of their time together and are literally going on dates

barty will not hint to anyone that he even likes sirius. ask him about it and he'll say sirius is the most annoying fuck he's ever met

but behind closed doors, barty worships sirius. on his knees 24/7. sirius is obsessed with this and loves seeing how far barty will take it, and barty loves being bossed around by sirius. like barty is crawling on the ground or letting sirius ride his face until he passes out from lack of oxygen. sirius doesn't have much sway over him normally but in the bedroom he could get barty to do absolutely anything he asks (sirius does of course ask if barty would kill someone for him and he answers yes immediately)

barty threatens to kill sirius if he tells anyone about that dynamic and sirius believes him

sirius, on the other hand, loves being worshipped. basically needs it. he puts barty up on the highest pedestal and blindly attaches himself to him. sirius goes wherever barty goes, does whatever barty tells him to, ignores all of their relationship's very evident flaws because he needs someone to adore him as intensely as barty does, or else he can't believe there's anything good about him at all

sirius tries repeatedly to break up with barty, barty reels him back in by inflating his ego, this goes on for several days, then barty decides to break up with sirius solely so he can be the one to do it (this drives sirius temporarily insane)

everyone and most especially minerva mcgonagall breathes a sigh of relief

neither of them will ever admit to it, but they actually both did really like one another. it was entirely too intense and they're both too fucked up for it to ever work. they're both narcissists, can't handle being wrong, stupidly competitive, and have massive abandonment issues. instead of complementing one another, they're mirrors of each other. it really could have worked, maybe, if they hadn't grown up the way that they did-- in another lifetime, another universe, all that. for months, james will poke fun at sirius ('do you remember when you dated crouch, of all people?') but sirius looks back on those insane, chaotic weeks with a strange sense of fondness, knowing they were both broken and desperate to be loved and yearning for someone else

July 16 - Stage | @jegulus-microfic | wc: 1123 Part 12 of Medium!James AU Previous Part | First Part

Regulus stands by the Gryffindor boys while everyone is waiting for the train, “My friends know about the whole situation. I’m going to be riding with them, but I’ll make sure to come by before we stop.”

James nods, smiling at him, “Alright, we’ve got the cloak with us. Project ‘Stage Reg’s Innocence’ is a go.” “That’s a horrible name.” Remus laughs.

“I only had a couple hours to come up with it!” James defends, crossing their arms and pouting, “Leave me alone.”

“It is rather stupid.” Regulus smiles, just before walking away and going to join his friends. 

Soon, everyone is getting on the train and their friends are finding themselves a car to sit in, seemingly not far from where Regulus and his friends end up. The train ride is fine, the four of them talking and laughing amongst themselves and figuring out how and when Pete and Remus are going to head over to the Potters’ place for Christmas. 

When they’re close to the station, Regulus is knocking on the door to their room and Sirius is quick to let him in. The younger Black sits himself between James and Pete, leaning into James’ warmth just a bit, being cold as he always is. 

“When we pull into the station.” Remus starts, “You’ll want to lay low, Regulus. We can look out for her, but we don’t want her to be able to see you through the window.”

James nods, “When we stop moving, I’ll cover you with the cloak,” They gesture to the piece of soft sitting in their lap, “and you walk out in front of me, I’ll be the last to leave. Stick close to Sirius and try not to run into anyone. If you walk between me and Pads, then you shouldn’t run into anyone, as long as you don’t mind me standing right behind you.”

Regulus shakes his head, “It’s fine.”

“We’ll meet up with Effie and Monty,” Sirius says, not looking away from Remus for a moment before he finally looks at his little brother, “And you should be safe. I wouldn’t take off the cloak until we get away from the station, but…”

“Got it.” Regulus nods, slipping to sit on the floor when the ugly screech of the train’s brakes start to sound throughout. Immediately, the marauders are glancing out of the window. 

“Shit.” Sirius hisses, “There she is. With Kreacher.” 

“Fuck me.” Regulus whispers. 

“It keeps happening,” Pete starts, “But everytime your fucking magic rings and jewelry works, I hate it. I hate you, James Potter.” James laughs at him, light-hearted and smiling wide. 

Finally the train comes to a full stop and everyone starts getting off. Luckily they’re a train car off from where Walburga and Kreacher were standing, which is Regulus’ usual train car. James throws his cloak over his crush and they all stand up. Pete is first out the door, then Remus, then Sirius, and finally Regulus with James right behind him. They leave the train and make quick work of getting across the platform to where Effie and Monty are usually waiting for them. When they glance over to where the woman is standing, she’s in Barty’s face, grilling him -- which he seems all too happy to fight back -- and not paying any attention to their group. 

Finally, the group arrives at where Effie and Monty are standing, waiting for Marlene. When she shows up, the family, Pete, and Marlene get ready to leave. Remus presses a kiss to Sirius’ lips before splitting from the rest of the group. 

When they’re finally back at the Potters’ house, Regulus allows the cloak to fall from his head and Pete and Marlene say their goodbyes before walking out of the house and heading to their own places. 

“Hello, Regulus.” Effie smiles, looking at the new boy, “Welcome to our home. We’ve got your room ready for you, it’s just right next to Sirius’ and close to James’ so you can head up there when you’re ready.”

“What did you kids want for lunch?” Monty asks, already making his way to the kitchen.

“I think sandwiches will work just fine for now, dad.” James smiles. They lean down to press a kiss to their mum’s cheek before taking their bag and heading upstairs, turning to Regulus and Sirius, “Are you two coming? We need to get our stuff put away.” And with that, they head up the stairs. 

Sirius disappears into his room and James leads Regulus to his after putting down their bag in their room, “Here’s your room, good sir.”

“You’re a fucking dork.” Regulus smiles, putting his bag down on the bed but refusing to meet James’ eyes as he sobers up, “Thank you, James. Seriously.”

“It’s no problem, Reg,” James smiles, “You’ll like my parents, but don’t feel forced to be around them. They’ll understand if you need space.” They reach forward and grabs his hands. 

“That’s- I appreciate that.” Finally, he looks up only to see James right in front of him, smiling down at him. Regulus allows his eyes to flit around James’ face, eventually landing on just watching his eyes as James looks over him, smile growing more passive than something they’re actively keeping up. It’s genuine and it makes Regulus’ heart flutter because James is so fucking attractive.

Their eyes flit down to his lips and Regulus really feels his heart skip a beat, “James…”

“What’s holding you back?” James asks, their voice a whisper, “I know that you want this. I know you feel this. Why… why won’t you do anything about it?”

“I’m scared, Jamie.”

“I know you are,” James hums, leaning forward and pressing their forehead to Regulus’, closing their eyes, “But you were also scared to come here, you were scared to rekindle your relationship with Sirius. You’ve been scared of doing things, but you did them anyway. Why are you holding back now, you’re not scared of me. You’re scared of your family but you’re going against them right now, standing in my home. Please, Reg. Take a chance on me.”

Regulus doesn’t respond for a while before he finally makes up his mind and surges forward, presses his lips to James, and wraps his arms around their waist. James takes a second to respond before their hands move from Regulus’ arms to his shoulders, kissing back just as ferociously. 

When they pull away, Regulus’ cheeks are red and James is smiling, “Thank you, Reg.”

“I’m not going back there.” Is Regulus’ response, “I’m not- I’m not going back to Grimmauld Place. I’ll find a way to grab my things then I’m gone… for good.”

“You’re perfect.” James breathes, leaning down and kissing Regulus once again.

i'm having the time of my life writing regulus being a complete flop... so much so that the next chapter of scylla and charybdis - which if i manage to display basic executive function [...] will be posted tomorrow - features him really getting into the swing of his "i hate you" / "i don't know you exist" arc with barty crouch jr.

The two of them were in the library. Severus was trying to decipher the emerald-inked opinions which covered the latest edition of Advances in Potioneering, which the Dark Lord had sent that morning. Regulus - despite the fact that he was ostensibly there to revise for his OWLs - was picking morosely at his quill, sighing - theatrically and insufferably - at ever narrower intervals.

Severus couldn’t take it any longer.

‘Don’t you have work to be doing? Your exams start next week.’

Regulus looked at him with a hangdog expression. ‘I think the Dark Lord has written to Crouch.’

‘Well, yeah. Obviously. He’s the head of the Department of Magical Law -’

[He stopped dead in the doorway, the vial of Veritaserum almost slipping from his shaking fingers, the Mark continuing to sear and throb on his left arm, the elf Dumbledore had ordered him to collect sniffling and muttering to herself as she peered around his legs.]

‘I don’t see what’s so bloody special about him. He’s a weirdo! We have Herbology with them and he just sits there muttering to himself like a freak. He’s not important. He’s not popular. And I know everyone acts like he’s a genius, but he’s not that clever… I just don’t understand why the Dark Lord would be interested in him…’

[There was a hollow-eyed man - his flaxen hair dishevelled, his fingers stained with nicotine and ink - sprawled in the chair, where Moody had been only minutes before.]

Oh, right. Of fucking course. Severus - gold-plated moron that he was - had allowed himself to think that Regulus was occasionally capable of not being as thick as mince, but - nope - it was too much to ask that he would be having a conniption over a matter of actual political importance. He was worrying about Crouch Junior - someone he inexplicably saw as his mortal enemy, but whom Severus (and, he’d have put money on it, pretty much everyone else in the castle) couldn’t have picked out of a line-up of one.

[‘Crouch! Barty Crouch!’]

‘I mean…’ Severus paused, determined to find a way of phrasing his next point which didn’t involve calling Regulus a daft cunt (although he couldn’t deny he was tempted…). ‘It’s because of his dad. You get that, right? His dad’s the person responsible for the Ministry’s entire campaign against the Dark Lord. He’s basically the second most important person in the government… And there have been rumours that he’s next in line for the top job for years. The Dark Lord’s obviously going to want to keep an eye on him. He probably just wants Crouch to pass information about what his dad’s doing. It’s not that he thinks Crouch is brilliant, or whatever. It’s just that he can offer him something useful. And you - well - it’s not that you can’t - obviously - but…’

He trailed off as - for the first time that evening - Regulus opened a book. Although it wouldn’t have hurt him - Severus thought - to do it without an expression of smacked arse disdain which made him look exactly like his fucking brother.

[As he sulked his days away in the dank little cave which passed as Grimmauld Place’s kitchen, making Molly Weasley trot around him like a house elf and acting like cleaning was beneath him; as he stayed up until sunrise and got out of bed at dinnertime; as he stopped shaving or showering or making any effort to hide the haunted look in his eyes; as he regressed to a teenager, with a mardy slope to his shoulders and a petulant twist to the mouth which Azkaban had filled with rotting teeth… He looked exactly like his brother. He shouldn’t have - Reg had never been anything other than soft and delicate, pink-and-white like a blancmange; Sirius had become a calcified wreck after twelve years of agony - but he looked so much like his brother.]

‘I don’t care.’

Severus jabbed his quill into his ink-pot, to make a note about a modification to the Draught of Living Death the Dark Lord had described as audacious. ‘It seems like you do.’

‘Well I don’t.’

‘Fine.’

They sat in stony silence, Regulus turning pages with ostentatious stroppiness, Severus debating whether to take advantage of this sulk to finish his reading or tell him to stop sitting there with a face like a -

‘I just think,’ he said, setting his quill down, ‘that if Crouch didn’t bother you, you wouldn’t -’

‘He doesn’t bother me! I just don’t see why he gets to have everything for no good reason and I -’

‘- have convinced yourself that he’s important. Nobody else thinks he is. I mean -  Look… I wasn’t going to tell you this, because it’s none of your business -’

‘Tell me what?’

‘And so if I tell you - if I do you the favour of telling you - can you keep your trap shut?’

‘Tell me what?’

‘Can you?’

‘Yes.’

‘I was at a meeting. Of the - you know - over Easter.’

‘What, really?’

This was what he wanted, wasn’t it? Their positions reversed. Regulus down from his toffee-nosed tower, him atop some magnificent pillar. Regulus looking up at him with glittering eyes - as he always did when Severus spoke of the Dark Lord - like a peasant gazing upon some holy man, capable of speaking directly to God.

‘Yep,’ he said, with a primping quirk of his lip. ‘The Dark Lord personally asked for me to be there. And he didn’t mention Crouch at all. He’s not a priority, or a favourite, or anything like that. He’s only reaching out to him so he can use him for his own ends. You should be flattered he thinks more of you than to do the same.’

raahh i wish i could answer two asks in the same post since i got another ask for this one, but here we are:

ive posted about this au a bit before, though that was less of an in depth explanation as this is going to be lol

so, basically the population of hogwarts are making tons of rumors based on the four of them, stuff about each off of them being involved with each other in one way or another,

here is basically the basis of why these rumors came across:

Barty & James: Theyve been seen leaving parties together and Barty has been seen going to the Marauders dorm room (Barty is actually tutoring James and they will leave parties to walk around and talk because James gets overwhelmed by the noise sometimes)

Evan & Regulus: They are both prefects together and they talk in hushed whispers a lot that people think has tension (They are just close friends and Evan is one of the only people that Regulus doesn't act like he despises talking to, (must be a rosier twin thing))

Barty & Evan: Barty and Evan are almost always seen touching eachother, hand holding, arm around a shoulder, head in laps, etc etc (Barty is a very handsy person and his love language is physical touch, Regulus hates being touched most of the time, but Evan doesn't mind it so Barty usually will cling to him when they're together)

Regulus & James: People suspect something is going on between the two of them because of their sudden friendship & because Regulus always looks very flustered when they talk (Reg & James are partners in their Potions class, (reggie is in the grade above because he's advanced in the subject) and Regulus has no idea how to react to how verbally validating James is and how sweet and kind, so he just goes red and stares at him)

Evan & James: People think they have something going on because Evan is just overly soft and sweet about him, calls him nicknames and pinches his cheeks (Evan does this with all of his friends, but James is just louder & basically the definition of adorable so people notice it more)

Barty & Regulus: They argue all the time but in the way where its incredibly tension filled and Barty will flirt with him all the time and Regulus doesn't punch him so that counts for something (They are just both very bantery and Barty loves making Regulus glare at him when he makes flirty comments)

basically they all find these rumors ridiculous and end up using it for their advantage. Barty comes up with the idea to just confuse the entirety of hogwarts with being fucking impossible,

Barty is doing it mostly to give a huge fuck you to his dad, James thinks this will be the best prank ever, Regulus thinks itd be funny to piss of his brother, and to bring disgrace to his family name, Evan is just...well he's bored so he goes along with it

just picture the hogwarts student body as a huge fandom who have constant ship wars, where the actual people apart of these ships are just laughing at them

but..then the plot twist: they actually start to like eachother,

that starts up the drama because all four of them are like: "this is supposed to be a joke though, this isn't supposed to feel real" and they all think the others think of it as not real, but nope, theyre all gay panicking

plus, bonus points: James didn't even know he liked men before this

oh and, Evan's excuse of him being bored is actually to cover up the fact he's had a crush on basically all three of the them at some point in his life and hes just like: "holy shit this is my time to be y/n"

[ CW mention of a sect, murders, torture and nazism context : talking about the valorisation of Death Eaters (especially Evan and Barty) in the Marauders fandom ]

I love marauders fandom, ok ? I really do. It's amazing how much people were able to create, construct with four lines and a name. It's a fan work, it's an alternative universe, it's another universe. It's everything we ever wanted. I love marauders fandom, but there's a thing I can't stand : valorisation, glamourisation, normalisation of convicted murderers.

Don't get me wrong, I like Rosekiller (yes, it's about them here). They're such complex characters, with an interesting relationship. Their love is based on destruction, they only existed by burning the other as well as themselves. They are characters aimed to die, attracted by it and builded this end together. They are complex, they have depth. And that what makes them likeable.

But they are not good persons. Make them how you want in early school era, I don't care. It wasn't written in canon, it's our decision. But don't normalise what they did, what they were. They joined a faschist and extremist sect, and honestly the why they did that doesn't matter anymore : they actively participated. Because they liked it, because it's what they wanted. Because it was them. "But his dad forced him" doesn't excuse the following actions. They don't have any redemption arc, like Regulus (even if his was questionnable). They torturded, they killed until their last breath, and liked it. Make them in love, make them obsessed about insects and bones, make them anxious, make them jealous, make them funny, make them human with a lot of personnality traits but you can't make them 'babygirl'. You can't excuse their behavior. You can't do like they are heroes, like they are good, like they're not literal war criminals. Like they're understandable. Like they deserve to be free and to live their life without consequences. Like what they did is 'hot' or 'normal'.

Glamourisation of murderers, of faschists, of terrorists is NEVER okay. No matter how much the character is well writen, with a complex backstory. They are good characters, i agree, but they are not good persons. Maybe they weren't like this at first, that's up to you and your headcanons. But they became. They became dangerous, tracking their former friends, tracking mudbloods like fucking animals. They fought against freedom, against a whole part of the wizard population. They're not better than nazis. And you can't valorise nazism.

I don't tell you to not like them. You can love a character AND condemn them at the same time. I'm just so angry at people acting like they are fucking children who never did one thing wrong in their life, who amputate one primordial side of their development by trivialising it. Or, in the opposite, having so much fun writing about them commiting murders and talking about it in front of the others and that nobody bats an eye. Because it's normal that they bury corpses in the Forbidden Forest I guess. Because it's something that is not worth mentioning and "it's okay, that's a part of their personality and sexyness". Say it, say how bad of people they were, say how much what they did is horrible. Say they were not heroes. Say they were feared and hated by most of students. Say they were not 'iconic'. Not trying to convince you to change them, they are what they are and contribute to the story like this, only to change HOW you write, read, perceive them. They're vilains, and still can be liked without being set up as life models. Because no matter the backstory of the character, no matter if they're sexy and hot, no matter if they're gay freaks in love who could die for eachother, no matter how much you have affection for them, you can't qualify yourself of a good person while glamorising serial killers, actual or fictional, and normalising their actions by nobody reacting to it like they should to.

Liking a character is liking the writing, the backstory, the link with the others, the narratives arcs. It's thinking they are interesting, well integrated in the universe, with a significant (or not) role in it. It's not finding their crimes 'hot' and trivialising it. You can think they are fucking bastards who deserve life sentence, you can wish them dead and recognise the unspeakable horrors of their crimes while viewing them as your favorite character. You can being conscious of who they are and being disgusted by it but still liking them. You can hating them as persons while loving them as fiction. No need to make them a sexual icon or forgive everything they did : acknowledge all of their aspects in their globality, the importance of all their narrative arcs is what really does them justice.

Please, do the distinction between the character's development and the character's morality.

What’s this? Another silly AU? (Please note silly does not mean this is gonna be angst free). Modern AU, Upside Down Events still happen, but I’m unsure if I wanna keep the deaths.

This now has a name: Learning to be Loved

It takes everything inside Tommy to not pull over on the side of the road and throw up. He left this town as quickly as he could. Wanted nothing to do with it, with the constant death, with his father and brothers. Leaving his mother, leaving the little plot of land where his sister sleeps was a blow to the gut but he needed to go. His hands tighten on the steering wheel, he ran because Hawkins would have been his death. And now here he is running back.

Ten years older and thousands in debt thanks to a degree he never even got to finish. Still, his eyes flick back to the three little girls sleeping in their seats, it wasn’t all bad. Sure Lloyd was probably the worst Alpha Tommy could have let knock him up, he was everything Tommy hated he had become in high school, but he had treated Tommy right at the start. He treated Tommy like an equal instead of the way most Alphas did here in Hawkins. They’d spent three years dancing around each other, two of them Tommy spent fixing all the shit in his head… okay, not all. Up until he fled he’d had a therapist visit every other Wednesday, but most of it. He recognized that painting ‘Nancy the Slut Wheeler’ was a shit thing to do, that spreading rumors that could get them hurt in their small, often backward ass, town was a morally indefensible thing to do. He’s grown. Has had to grow. He has children to raise and an Alpha who showed his true colors the moment Tommy got pregnant. Raging and throwing things, breaking things before turning toward Tommy. The baby couldn’t be his. He wouldn’t raise the bastard.

Only when the twins were born, a week and a half early Lloyd had come crawling back. Begging to be part of their lives. And like a fool Tommy had said yes. Carol’s parents had divorced and while her dad was amazing he hadn’t known what or how to raise two kids on his own. And if Barty couldn’t do it, how could Tommy?? He stayed too long. Let Lloyd stay too long. Muscle memory has him almost turning onto Loch Lora before remembering that Steve doesn’t live there anymore.

“Daddy? Where are we?” Bellamy asks, her big brown eyes looking around.

She has his eyes but Tommy likes to think she got the brown from Steve. That there was a tangible connection between them. He’s pulled over, car idling as he digs out his phone. Can’t stay here long, the neighbors get pissy, but he needs to look up Steve’s address. Dr Marnie would be disappointed in him, dropping by an old ex friend’s house unannounced. But even when they were on the outs Steve looked out for him. The pact made between Omegas never weakened.

“We’re in Hawkins, babydoll, daddy’s just gotten a little turned around is all.”

Plus Steve’s facebook profile is public for the world to see. Complete with address and place of employment. Steve’s a teacher nowadays. Tommy hadn’t dared look further than that. Didn’t have the right to, which makes just as little sense now as it did when he mentioned that to Dr Marnie. He’d done the same to Carol. Looked at that little About section, only addresses and place of work. Needed to see how they were doing. Carol is an accountant, or maybe a CPA, not that Tommy knows what the fuck that means. Finding the address he gets to driving.

It doesn’t take long to get the quaint little house. The outside is painted a cheery yellow the neighbors must hate or love. There are toys in the yard. This is it. He takes a deep breath, steps out of his shitty second hand car that barely fits his three daughters and all he packed for them, and starts the process of unloading the girls. They gather close around him, nervous about the new environment. Together the little family approaches the round green door. Knocks.

“Heya, Steve.”

oooh thanks for asking!! i love talking abt hp characters and their relationships with each other ajhkasgfi. warning tho, this is very looooooong.

ok let's start with severus first because i feel like my relationship with him has been the most... turbulent lol.

SEVERUS SNAPE

i was pretty neutral on snape's character when i was first reading the series, perhaps leaning more to dislike. It wasn't until DH where it was revealed that snape was in love with lily the whole time 13 year old me was SHOOK. i became the biggest snape stan and snily shipper. I hated both James and sirius (still loved remus tho lol). and i remember watching so many snape youtubers and yeah i would write praragraphs defending this man and how lily should have chosen him. lmao now u all know abt my snapie past.

However, during my next reading, in about 2018, i began to see snape's flaws more. I was also very active on the wattpad hp fandom (yes shhh ik) and a lot of my friends loved the marauders as characters (they were not in the marauders fandoms, they just liked the characters) and a lot of them hated snape. And then i began to hate snape too lol. However, i really enjoyed reading and watching videos that dissected his character. and i still watched videos from snape stans

i then joined the marauders and atyd fandom in 2021 and now was a pro snape hater. like mans was now the definition of pure evil. Made hating snape a personality trait lol. Though he was the worst of the worst.

it wasn't until late 2023/early 2024 when i became fed up with mauraders fandom and how they fanonise everything. especially considering so many of them stan regulus (which the way they characterise him in fanon is how canon kid snape was depicted anyway) and barty and evan and all those fucking death eaters who were wayyyy worse than snape ever was -- but no, snape is sill for some reason the No.1 evil.

now, i feel like snape is a much more interesting character than people give him credit for, and especially as a kid, was not as bad as marauders fans depict him to be. However, I don't really interact with the snape fandom so much because i feel like they either ignore excuse the shittier things he did as an older teen/adult. I am also of the opinion that James and sev were rivals, and it wasn't a bullying situation but yeah. i wish there were more people who enjoyed both the marauders and severus who didn't make either or both to be saints lol

LILY EVANS

Ok, I'll be honest, Lily's character did not really interest me until I read atyd. To be fair, jkr spent a a lot of time characterising harry's dad and his friends, but we were not given too much info on Lily, and almost no info on if she had any other friends besides severus.

I loved Lily's friendship with Mary and Marlene in atyd, and of course with Remus. and i loved how her personality in that fic to. I don't consider that fic to be canon compliant now and don't agree with a lot of the characterisations but it was still pretty good.

Lily was a bit too sensible in atyd, and whenever we're given descriptions about her from slughorn for instance, or her personality in SWM, she's presented as 'vivacious' and cheeky' so i like to think that she wasn't really a hermione 2.0 but rather more similar to snarky and sassy harry, tho perhaps more popular and well-loved. ok now onto what i think u really wanted me to address - sev and lily's relationship.

No, i don't think sev was 'obssessed' with Lily, i think he truly loved her but he was also a selfish person. (however tho, how would sev convince voldy to spare harry,, like that was literally all voldy was after like....)

anyways, as kids, they were very close -- maybe a little codependant. I imagine Lily was always facinated with Sev his talk about magic, and to sev, Lily was an escape from his abusive homelife. I think they both may have had a little crush on each other pre-hogwarts.

As they went to hogwarts, they grew apart as they were placed in different houses. Snape was surroundd by pureblood facists which slowly radicalised him, and Lily began making friends in Gryffindor. A war tensions grew, i can imagine snape and Lily's relationship became more tense and strained, and no one knew why they stuck together. But they knew things about each other that no one else did and understood each other in ways no one else could. However, after SWP, it was clear that they were heading down different paths so lily cut him and that was that.

Lily always felt hurt after their break up, but she had supportive friends to keep her afloat. Snape however, was filled with guilt, bitterness and regret and thus became deeply radicalised. I don't think tho that Snape was very high in the death eater rank until the search for harry/prophecy was on.

anyways still mulling things over but yeah, i think they're both facinating and i'd love to see their relationship explored in complexity in more fics!
