Because of Changfengdu, i feel like i need to make a list or introductions of the author's novel (墨书白)
The ML's usually crazily devoted and the FL is crazily competent. I will write some of her historical ones first. (English is not my 1st language, so sorry if there's some mistake)
I'll tag @dangermousie and @mercipourleslivres, maybe you guys can enjoy some of this!
长公主 (The Grand Princess)
This one is a double rebirth story of a princess and her estranged husband. They both died (at age 50's) thinking they killed each other. They born in a time before they married. In their new life they started as friends.
Our FL is Li Rong, is a prideful princess and in the 1 st life married our ML Pei Wen Xuan because he's the most handsome XD. The emotional part of this novel feels so delicate and raw. The longings, remorse, regret, especially from the ML really hook me up. The bloody drama also not only come from the main couple but basically everyone. There's no such a thing as npc chara, everyone have their own purpose. I know many people said Li Rong don't deserve Pei Wen Xuan ( nahh do we read the same novel?) Both are at faults. This one is not for the faint heart. Last time i heard they will adapt this into a drama with Zhao Jinmai and Wang Anyu, i don't want them to touch this.
山河枕 (Mountain river pillow aka the eldest wife is my wife)
This one is a rebirth story. Our FL Chuyu already married the 2nd ML in her 1st life. But her love was wasted and her husband didn't treat her right. After being reborn, she choose to married her supposed to be husband, Wei Jun (the eldest son of a border general). You know what happened to the generals who lives in the border right? Right, scapegoat of the politics in the capital.
Short story, the wei general and his 6 son died (including Chu Yu husband) as a traitor in battlefield leaving the youngest son Wei Yun bring his father and brothers coffin. The real story begin here as Chu yu keep helping Wei Yun to keep the Wei family legacy.
Poor Wei Yun, is all that i can say :p.
From the news i see Song Qian and Ding Yuxi name, please just no :(.
论撩世家子的技巧 (the trick to teasing a noble family son)
This is not the famous one but WORTH READING. Oh and this a crossdressing novel. Our FL Wei Lan is a reborn, but not from your usual world. She came from a matriarcal world, when women is the leader in society and men task is in the backyard. When she came to the her new world, the 1st thing she do is change identity with his brother. Yes you hear me right, Wei lan become the brother and her brother Wei Hua become the sister. Our ML is Xie Zichen, also a reborn. He died being betrayed by the prince that he supported.
This novel is hilarious in the beginning as Wei Lan feels like douchebag, and feels that women is far superior than men. She FLIRT a lot. Because her thoughtfulness, all of these men of course being tempted. Our ML too think like that but reverse. But don't worry there's chara development from everyone, i cried a lot and too be honest my fav chara is one of the FL suitor who end up died.
I change my mind, i'll write her Xianxia and modern too here XD.
琢玉 (Carven Jade)
One of my fav danmei together with Yuwu. Our Gong is Fu ChangLing and Shou is Qin Yan (ma babies). This is a rebirth story. In the 1st life Fu Changling killed Qin Yan out of revenge and hate thinking that he is the one who killed his family and bring demise to the cultuvation world, little did he know that Qin Yan did all of that for him.
After being reborn Fcl did everything to keep Qin Yan safe and sound. I love how devoted they are to each other. All the support characters also great. I really love the parents story too.
剑寻千山 (sword of searching mountain)
This is a broken reunion story. Our FL Qin wanwan and our ML Xie Changji were married. The FL didn't know that our ML cultivated the heart of sword way ( the way of being indifferent, throw away feelings and other desires), she think the ML doesn't love her.
Our ML lives with sadness and trauma for hundred years. Our FL sects also meet a demise around this time and it so so sad. This novels feels emotionally heavy.
Xie ChangJi is up there for me for Crazyily masochist obsessed devoted ML. This one is not my fav but have some really good part. All the support chara also awesome.
余生有涯 (rest of my life)
TW : R&pe, Suicid*
This is a modern setting novel but being the heaviest of the bunch. Definitely not for everyone. This is a realistic novel about our FL Ye Sibei who is getting r*pe after office drinking party. Usually her husband pick her up, but he didn't do it on that day.
This is very hard to read for me, only 39 chapters with knife in it. Felt very real, the one that didn't felt real was her husband Qin Nan (definitely doesn't exist). Do not recomend ro read this when you're feeling down. But very uplifting.

People in the time of Wang Mang
[HHS012]
Lu Fang, courtesy name Junqi, was a native of Sanshui in Anding, he lived within the Left Valley. In the time of Wang Mang, Under Heaven everyone thought of Han's virtue, and Fang made use of that to himself falsely claim to be Emperor Wu's great-grandson Liu Wenbo. His great-grandmother was the elder sister of the Xiongnu's Luli Hunxie King who had become the empress of Emperor Wu and born three children. When the chaos of Jiang Chong happened and the Heir-Apparent was executed, the Empress was implicated and died. Her middle son Ciqing absconded to Changling, the younger son Huiqing escaped to the Left Valley. General Huo installed Ciqing and welcomed Huiqing, but Huiqing did not set out and following that lived in the Left Valley. He begot a son, Sunqing, and Sunqing begot Wenbo. He often used this speech to confuse and deceive in the Anding area. At the end of Wang Mang, he therefore raised troops together with the Qiang and Hu from Sanshui's dependant states.

Is it the Teacher of State, His Excellency Liu Xiu?

How do [you] know it is not this abject person?
Everyone seated there great laughed, Chen in his heart alone was delighted.
The Eastern Watchtower Records says: Chen and the Sovereign set out in the carriage together. They came upon an envoy but did not go down from the chariot. The envoy was angry, and quite a bit added to their humiliation and abuse. The Sovereign claimed to be a clerk from Jiangxia, Chen altered his name to Hou Jiacheng. The envoy considered them liars, brought them to the precinct, and wished to punish them. The steward of Xinye, Pan Shu, made a request, and they were released.

Tagged by @skloomdumpster this was so much fun!
Rules: How much do these tropes affect your decision to click on a fic?
-10 -> very dissuaded
0 -> don’t care either way
10 -> very enticed
nope -> if it’s a hard no and you’d never click on a fic with that tag or or you even have the tag blocked or you’d insta click out of the fic if it wasn’t tagged.
Bonus points for explaining the rating and whether it’s conditional
(For me this is also overall up in the air -again see kaliz mpreg fic- cause I read primarily in small fandoms and for rare pairs, in which you take what you can get)
Age Gap: -5
Okay, so you guys all know I LOVE a good age gap, however, the thing is nine times out of ten when this is tagged its because canonically there isn’t one and the author has chosen to create one for whatever reason. And generally those reasons aren’t to my taste. But obviously I’m all here for Max/Michelle, Clara and the Doctor, Delena and a million other options. I’m just not big into fan created age gaps- cause they generally mean the author is enticed by the age gap itself vs. the possibility within the characters dynamic.
Codependency: 0
At the end of the day this is one of my all time favorite tropes (Psychic Twins is my favorite rnm dynamic for a reason, lol). But the tricky thing is I’ll only want to read it for a dynamic that makes sense to me personally, cause at the end of the day I want the characters to feel untouched by the author and transplanted into the fic (with allowances for au’s actively altering them in believable ways! cause I love a good twist on a characters trauma and backstory that has them acting like a changling of their original self)
Enemies to lovers: 10/10
More like “antagonism” to lovers. This is my drug of choice. Like have them spit angry words at each other and shove each other into walls, ave them snarl at the realization they wanna fuck, make those little guys squirm uncomfortably at the very premise of finding that person enticing.
Enemies With Benefits: 5/10
See above. Depends on the rest of the tags and general vibe of the fic, cause adding complicated sex rituals can elevate or ruin the dynamic.
Fake Dating/Relationship: 10/10
I will click through to the fic every. single. time. (Given it’s a pairing I’m at least intrigued by). But if for whatever reason the set up doesn’t appeal I’ll forlornly walk away. But hey! It’s like antagonism to lovers, but less “we’re arguing but now- hey, we’re close…” and more “forced intimacy and now the lines are blurred and I don’t know what’s real anymore” always a banger.
Found Family: No.
Okay, so if this is tagged and it’s not like an addition to “hey, this is a platonic work” it’s a solid-hard-forever-no. Because the author is telling me, and I get to decide what is a family.
Friends To Lovers: 5/10
Really depends on if it fits the ship and of course the other plot pieces.
Friends With Benefits: 10/10
Not gonna lie I really do like a messy/sexy situation that involves the characters spiraling about their emotions and feelings. And this trope does some of the best groundwork for that emotional atmosphere.
Hurt/Comfort: 0/10
Not generally my cup of tea, however, if it’s tied to canon events I’m intrigued, or paired with some other fun tag/idea.
Love Triangle: No.
Generally this exists with vitriol against a character (usually a woman :/ or coc) even when it doesn’t this is the least inspired way to get drama and emotion out of the characters, I no doubt already sat through it in canon, so unless there’s an endgame poly relationship tagged or it’s a pwp and a threesome it’s so far from my thing I’ll scroll right passed.
Mistaken/Hidden Identity: 9/10
I mean you don’t read Clex fic without enjoying that level of drama
Monster Fu… Relationship: 3/10
Depends on other tags/plot/character, cause I do love a good werewolf and/or vampire au (mermaids too!)
Obsession, Possessiveness, etc: -10/10
Just not my thing. Unless it’s designed to be a certain dynamic. Cause yeah, Joniz with this tagged feels right and natural- but not like Lizobel or something.
Opposites (like grumpy×sunshine, etc): 0/10
Another case of it has to already exist within canon and not being forced onto the characters.
Poly: 0/10
This tells me nothing the relationship tags didn’t already (sorry), so my brain will skip right on over it. I mean- I already expect to be reading a poly work if the fic is tagged Max Evans/Liz Ortecho/Kyle Valenti and if I’m not I’m gonna be soooo sad, but oh well.
Pregnancy: 0/10
Depends on length, focus and if it feels right for the characters.
Second Chance: 0/10
Depends on the rest of the tags. But generally I’ve seen it used for something that occurred off screen before the fic starts, which isn’t my thing.
Sex To Feelings: 1000/10
Yep! I mean I can’t fathom them not going hand in hand, imo there really can’t be a good sex scene without layers of emotion. It’s what my Demi-sexual ass is here for, seeing them be all emotionally vulnerable and compromised.
Slowburn: 10/10
Especially tagged with Friends to Lovers!!!
Soulmates: 3/10
Soulmate au??? Yes, I’ll consider it. The author telling me their opinion forcefully and that they don’t like multi-shipping??? Maybe not then.
No pressure tags @pleasantfanartist @theamazingcameronblack @spcecowboyyy @fiona-glenanne-westen @crepuscularqueens and anyone else who sees this and wants to participate count yourself tagged by me <3

The Blooms at Ruyi Pavilion - Episodes 5 and 6
I’m a bit disappointed that we lost Qin Qing and Qi Ce. Qi Ce had that moment where he’s being all creepy while he’s holding up a little bottle and speaking about Fu Xuan - is that just dropped? Do we forget about that or will it come up again through Qi Zhu?
Tumblr media
Some directors forget about the nameless, unimportant people who drift around in the background. Then what happens is that those characters don’t respond to what’s happening to the main characters. (I remember that Nirvana in Fire 2 had great instances where the background characters respond to the main characters). But there was a moment that made me go yeah, that is how the background characters should be used. To give the scene more oomph, more life.
Tumblr media
Also, that scene in Drunken Spring Court gave us two utterly fantastic moments that I didn’t expect to see from Duke Su. Duke Su (or rather the actor) has annoying moments where he stands stiffly and stares at absolutely nothing. You can see that his eyes are blank. But I sat up and paid attention when he pretended to be Fu Rong’s lover and then when he was so surprised to see Fu Rong slapping Qi Ce.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Duke Su has these little moments where his personality comes through, and it’s so utterly fun and delightful to see. Like when he glances at Wu Bai Qi out of the corner of his eye and tells the man to walk the Fu sisters home. He sees what’s going on!
Tumblr media
We’re also starting to get a good look at the villains. They have resources - money and people - to make devastating moves. They’re not dumb, and they’re clearly moving pieces around on the chessboard.
Tumblr media
Fu Rong’s friend Qi Zhu is now such a chess piece. I do understand Qi Zhu’s anger. She and family unit were unlucky and were mistreated and then everything came crashing down for them. Qi Zhu’s now alone and the cracks that were showing in her spirit finally made her snap. I can see her being used; I can see her doing potentially bad things. The question is will Qi Zhu eventually see what’s going on?
Qi Zhu’s fate will be interesting to see.
Speaking of not-so-interesting characters. We have this new lady.
Tumblr media
A bratty princess who wants Duke Su to herself. She’s as possessive and clingy as Li Changle from Princess Wei Young. On the other hand, she - like Qi Zhu - was given her royal title (I’m about to watch episode 13 as I type this post), and that’s an interesting link between the two ladies. I wonder if the ladies will still have their royal titles near the end of the show.

Huang Chao 黄巢 / flower against flower / 835-884 c.870
Tumblr media
Huang Chao (835-884) was a scholar-rebel. Failing the entrance exam for the civil service, he turned to salt smuggling. The large smuggling networks combined with farmers and land-owners hit by drought to form the organisation for an armed peasant revolt against the Tang rulers in 875. Huang Chao led a rebellion which eventually captured the capital, and he declared himself emperor. Although Huang Chao’s occupation of Chang’an was overturned in 884, the revolt fatally weakened the Tang dynasty. Huang also wrote a small number of poems.
不第后赋菊                    (Bù Dì Hòu Fù Jú)
待到秋来九月八,         (Dài dào qiū lái jiǔ yuè bā)
我花开后百花杀。         (Wǒ huā kāi hòu bǎi huā shā)
冲天香阵透长安,         (Chōng tiān xiāng zhèn tòu cháng’ān)
满城尽带黄金甲。         (Mǎn chéng jǐn dài huáng jīn jiǎ)
 Failing the examination, or Chrysanthemums
Waiting for autumn to come, eighth of the ninth month,
My flowers bloom, then a hundred flowers die.
Bursts of fragrance pierce the skies of Chang’an,
The entire city coated in golden armour.
A threat of armed revolt within a quatrain and a season: there’s only one day left before the ninth day of the ninth month, recoded as the day of uprising. The poem is in suspension, beginning with ‘waiting’ (待, dài) which neatly rhymes with arrival (来, lái) at either end of the first tetrasyllabic unit (the upper four), just as the next season arrives and the autumn festival will be tomorrow. In the quatrain of seven character lines (qijue), the second line adds understanding to what the first line brought into being. My flowers (我花) immediately recodes the context; this autumn poem is abstracted by the first person. Its autumn is a prophetic one, hollowing out the literary idea of the festival and of chrysanthemums with a fragrant contempt: the historical nostalgia of Du Fu seeing chrysanthemums bloom for the second time, Tao Qin plucking chrysanthemums beneath the eastern fence, or the longed-for return to the golden chamber of home in Wang Changling, a thousand poems of the Tang dynasty provide the shell of Huang Chao’s turn to the future, his call to arms and his contempt for Tang power. The second line pits flower against flower across the two segments: my flowers blooming, countless, and a hundred flowers dying, an uprising of numbers which leaves any evocation of faded summer and refulgent autumn in the repetition of huā – flower 花which is grass艹 plus change 化  – turned towards the decapitation of the Tang elite, a power which had lost its purchase: “The actual elimination of the old families resulted from a virtual class war, due to the rise of new bases of power outside the imperial bureaucracy,” Mark Edward Lewis writes in China’s Cosmopolitan Empire (p206, see note). Huang infuses the flower with his own name, Huang (黄,yellow), in the next line’s location of the same structure in Chang’an, the capital city, as the flower’s fragrance soars in the first segment, and pierces / moves through Chang’an, just as chrysanthemums were added to wine on the festival day and beer was blossom-infused over a year. A revolutionary subjectivity – unifying the very air or space of communication in the entire city (满城, mǎn chéng), that is, the city with no other space for alternative power – flickers in the poem’s festival to come as name, force and season converge to turn Huang’s body into a word and his name into the future, the poet as emperor in waiting. In the last segment of the poem, three characters track this fusion, the yellow of chrysanthemum turning to gold, the gold of a new age and the glinting of armour which covers the capital as fragrance shimmers into the shine of a clasp: huáng jīn jiǎ, 黄yellow, 金golden, 甲armour.
 Note:
“The old elite families might have survived this physical massacre, but they could not survive the revolution in attitudes that underlay it,” as Mark Edward Lewis further notes (China’s Cosmopolitan Empire: The Tang Dynasty, Harvard University Press: 2012).

Scylla Korrigan
so we all know our lovely darling farmer Skylla Koriga, i myself wasn’t that big of a fan of her until that comic by @neomints (http://neomints.tumblr.com/post/170399034641/what-is-tarnation-please-click-for-full-view) if you are following whatpumpkin you’ve probably seen it it’s amazing, and she rocketed to the top of my favorites list.
So i started to do some research into her name and her first name is pretty obvious, it seems to be a reference to Scylla the monster from greek mythology. An alternate spelling to Scylla is Skylla. The myths surrounding Scylla are many but the one i am interested in today is the one that says she was not born an aquatic dwelling monster but changed into one. This seemed really fascinating to me and seemed like it would be interesting, so i used my google-fu and researched the myth some more.
I’ll leave my links but basically what happened was that Scylla was a nymph and she was hella fine. So one day Glaucus met her and fell in love with her but she rebuffed him, so Glaucus went to Circe asking for a potion to make her fall in love with him. Circe thought Glaucus was hella fine but Glaucus rebuffed her, some accounts say rather rudely. So Circe was pissed but could not bring her ire to bear on sweet fisherman Glaucus, so she mixed a potion and it was unkind. Accounts differ on whether it was Glaucus or Circe who dumped the potion in the nympth’s spring but when she entered to bathe up to her waist, and everything in the water turned into a pack of dogs. Soon her temperament matched her monstrous appearance, because this was a bitch and a half to deal with. She sunk to the bottom of the sea and terrorized sailors till she turned to stone, and now terrorizes sailors to this day(natural hazards anyone?).
https://www.shmoop.com/glaucus-and-scylla/summary.html
http://www.theoi.com/Pontios/Skylla.html
http://www.talesbeyondbelief.com/myth-stories/glaucus-scylla.htm
So what does this myth mean for our girl, well if the fisherman troll ever shows up we better be leery that is for certain. But i thought maybe I’m stretching, this is a less common interpretation of the myth after all.
That is indeed what i thought until i started researching her last name. Koriga roughly translates into cousin in uzbekian and that is true, but troll names can have multiple meanings, and Korrigan is a type of siren/fairy. They are associated with rivers and wells, luring men to their deaths, and having “ translucent wasp like wings “. They are fae, but occasionally if you contact them in their river/water homes they will tell the future for you. But they are also known as the fae that take babies away and put changlings in their cribs.
http://visitcryptoville.com/2014/03/17/more-celtic-mischief-meet-the-korrigan/
https://www.transceltic.com/breton/korrigans-sirens-of-breton-mythology
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Korrigan
So if my theories are correct than Skylla Koriga is based upon two different myths, both water based sirens known for killing people but morally ambiguous, sure not right but not entirely wrong. This also fits into the whole cowboy morality which i will be going over another day.  Sometimes wrong, sometimes right, always inbetween. Anywho I just wanted to share.
Stay safe!

Demigods and Semi-devils, Chapter VI (I)
Duan Yu held Mu Wanqing close, feeling happy but anxious. “Are your injuries better, Miss Mu? The bastards didn’t treat you badly?”
“Who am I to you?” the girl replied angrily. “Why are you still addressing me as ‘Miss Mu’?”
The veneer of Mu Wanqing’s anger made her look even prettier to Duan Yu, who had missed her badly. He tightened his embrace, saying gently: “Sister Wan! Can I call you that, then?” He leaned down and kissed her on the lips.
Mu Wanqing made a small, startled gasp. She leapt up, her face flaming red. “There are other people here! H-how could you do that?” She looked around wildly. “Eh! Where have all the people gone?” The robed man, along with Officers Chu, Gu, Fu and Zhu had long gone. Zuo Zimu, cradling his son, had left too. There was no one at all in sight.
“What, is someone here? Is it the Crocodile God?” Duan Yu looked worried.
“How long have you been up here?”
“Just a little while. When I got up here, I saw you lying on the ground. There wasn’t anyone else around. Sister Wan, let’s hurry up and leave before the Crocodile God catches up to us.”
“Alright,” Mu Wanqing said. “How strange,” she muttered to herself. “Why did all those people leave?”
Suddenly, the pair heard a voice reciting lines from Wang Changling’s Answer to the Prefect of Wuling. “’Ere I travel a thousand li with my sword, I humbly speak these words...” Before it had finished speaking, a person emerged from behind a large boulder. It was Officer Zhu, whose full name was Zhu Dancheng.
“Brother Zhu!” Duan Yu cried in delight.
The other man hurried forward and bowed deeply. “Young master, thank heaven you are alright. We were terribly afraid after hearing what this young lady had to say.”
Duan Yu made a polite gong in reply. “So you’d already met? Why are you even here? What a coincidence!”
“It’s no coincidence,” Zhu Dancheng said, smiling. “Us four brothers were tasked to bring our young master back. Young master, you have certainly been brash. You’ve managed to single-handedly ruffle the feathers of the martial arts community. We traced you to Ma Wude’s home, and then hurried to Wuliang Mountain. Why, we have been worried.”
“I’ve definitely gotten into my fair share of scrapes,” Duan Yu replied, smiling back. “Uncle and Daddy are furious, right?”
“Well, of course they weren’t happy. But by the time we departed, their anger had burned itself out. I would imagine they have missed you terribly, these last few days. When Lord Shanchan learnt that the Four Brigands were in Dali, he was afraid for you, and set out to take care of them himself.”
“Uncle Gao is looking for me, too? I must make my apologies. Where is he now?”
“We were all here just a short while ago. Lord Gao crossed swords with a woman, and when we heard your voice, we were much relieved. They bade me stay here and wait for you, while they went after the woman. Young master, let us return home and put an end to my two masters’ worrying.”
“So you... you were here all along.” Duan Yu thought of how Zhu Dancheng must have seen what happened between himself and Mu Wanqing, and blushed furiously.
“I was just behind that boulder, reading Wang Changling’s verses. He has a five-syllable wujue poem that goes: ‘Ere I travel a thousand li with my sword, I humbly speak these words. Your bannermen have never failed you, and I remember your kindness with gratitude. Such elegance in so few words! It fills one with admiration.” Reaching into his tunic, he took out a book. It was The Verses of Wang Changling.
Duan Yu nodded. “Wang Changling is most famous for his qijue seven-syllable poetry, not the wujue form,” he said. “But this one is beautiful despite that. There is another piece called Bidding Guo Sicang Farewell - that is elegant too.” He recited in a loud voice: “Light of green water on my doorstep, and the master’s heart remains. The bright moon goes with my guest - like a spring tide is my heart.”
Zhu Dancheng bowed deeply. “Thank you, young master.”
He had heard every tender word that Duan Yu said to Mu Wanqing, but seeing his young master’s embarrassed face, changed the topic by speaking of the poem. The verses meant that he, like the great generals of the past, was willing to die for his master. Duan Yu’s reply meant that he would be true and honest to his staff, and treat them as friends. Their gazes met, and they smiled, understanding each other perfectly in that moment.
This bookworm has completely forgotten where he is, thought Mu Wanqing, who knew nothing of literature or poetry. Look how engrossed he is, the moment they started talking about poetry. And that officer sure knows how to suck up, carrying around a book like that. She did not know that Zhu Dancheng was at skilled with literature as he was at war, and often read poetry.
Duan Yu turned around. “M...Miss Mu,” he said. “This is Fourth Brother Zhu Dancheng. He is my very best friend.”
Zhu Dancheng greeted Mu Wanqing formally. “My respects to the lady.”
The man’s respectful greeting made Mu Wanqing feel warmer towards him. “Fourth Brother Zhu,” she said impulsively.
“I dare not have you call me that,” Zhu Dancheng replied with a chuckle. The young lady is beautiful, he thought. And from the way she slapped the young master just now, it looks as though she has some skill with martial arts. The young master smiled even after he was hit. He must be completely enamoured with her, to have left home for so long. I don’t know where this girl comes from, and the young master is yet young. He knows nothing of the dangers in our world. He should not be smitten by her beauty to the extent that he loses his reputation.
Out loud, he said with another smile: “Your uncle and father miss you terribly, young master. Let us return. Miss Mu, if you have no other engagements, would you like to be a guest and stay some days with us?” He was afraid that Duan Yu would resist going home, and thought that by inviting Mu Wanqing along, he might convince the young man to change his mind.
“How... how am I going to explain everything to Uncle and Daddy?” Duan Yu asked hesitantly. Mu Wanqing blushed and turned away.
“The Four Brigands are highly-skilled, and even though Lord Shanchan managed to force Madam Ye to retreat, it was partly because she was caught unawares, and partly just pure providence,” Zhu Dancheng said. “Young master, you should not let yourself be caught in such a perilous situation. Let us go!”
Duan Yu thought of the Crocodile God’s fierce visage and shuddered. “Alright, we will,” he said, nodding. “Brother Zhu, since our opponents are so powerful, you had better go and help Uncle Gao out. I’ll go back with Miss Mu.”
Zhu Dancheng laughed. “It was not easy for us to locate you, young master. Let your servant escort you back home in person. Although Miss Mu’s skills are no doubt unsurpassed, one has but to look at her to see that she has not fully recovered from some old injury. Should you encounter adversaries on the way home, that would doubtless inconvenience you both. Far better that I should lend my meagre strength to these efforts.”
Mu Wanqing sniffed loudly. “You know, you don’t need to use all those fine words when you’re talking to me. I’m just an uneducated savage. Why, I can only make out half of what you’re saying.”
The man smiled. “Why, indeed! Although I am a warrior, I try to pass myself off as a scholar at times. These old habits die hard, I’m afraid. The young lady must forgive me.”
