I don’t really see people talk about this album much so I am going to offer my thoughts 🔫 this is not a review it’s just me talking!!! I enjoy this one tbh. The titular “flyin’ shoes” is one of those classically Townes songs, soft and acoustic and a bit lonely, beautiful lyrics. It’s probably the objectively best song on the album, despite this I think “dollar bill blues” is my favorite, a little bit like “waiting around to die” on ftsots it’s a little more angry sounding and I kind of enjoy that, and it’s one of the few more-produced songs that I think sounds really good, actually. I also love snake song, the picking there sounds absolutely great. Like always, most of the more produced songs are not as good. I have no idea if he is the one who wanted them like that or some producer always pushed him to make them less acoustic, but it rarely works, as we all know. There’s some reviews that say he sounds kind of drug and drinked up on this album, and for some of the songs I can definitely hear that, he sounds much more strained and his voice a little weak in some places. Also I was pretty neutral on Pueblo waltz but the line “Leave these Texas blues behind and see Susanna and Guy” :(
