Every month, new victim. One thing they all have in common was… they dared to approach the abandoned mansion on Greyshire Street. That mansion belonged to the Frey family ― the founders of X-City, whose lineage had been lost, with their son going missing after Valentine Frey’s ― the mayor of the time ― untimely demise. X-City is a fairly young town, but it already had seen its fair share of gruesome events. Take the Incident, five years ago… The Incident… nobody truly knows what it is. Officials say it was an earthquake, which are far from common in this area. There are a lot of theories floating around the Internet and such, but none of them sound plausible. One thing I know for sure, though… The Incident is something that is bigger than us all.

Follow the Power Lines: a Visual Novel/game project currently in the writing stage!

Genre: Horror, Sci-fi, a bit of fantasy, a bit of romance, thriller... A little bit of everything.

What is Follow the Power Lines? It is a series that consists of three stories centered around a certain person... Who? That I cannot reveal, yet. But along the way you get to discover the stories of many other people, whose lives they affected. You can expect a lot of, well, aesthetic regarding electricity, scary abandoned locations, all those fun shenanigans... and perhaps they are all even haunted. Could it really be just a ghost, though? There might be a little more to it than meets the eye... This particular story takes place in the year 2022. Come along with Annie Nites, our protagonist, who is trying to change her currently sad life, uncover the mysteries of her hometown and find out what happened to her parents, as well as her best friend Naomi Mizukubo -- an artist with a timid personality, who does not want to have anything to do with any of this.

This will most likely be a kinetic visual novel built in ren'py, but things tend to change often around here, so... who knows.

Notes: this is a passion project I have had in my brain for more than a decade now, but I have decided to finally give this story a vessel. Any questions and such are welcome! I will try my best to avoid spoilers, but the nature of this story is quite fragile if you do mind them. I will make sure to tag/put them under readmore though. Thank you!

データ処理の続き。価格の改定頻度を調べているが、いかんせんデータがデカいので辟易。有限時間で終わってくれればいいがと願いつつ、今夜はpcに頑張ってもらう。

某所の就業体験のポストはなかなか興味深い。債務危機による物価上昇は、通常のNKモデルでは描写されない現象だからである。通常は政府が債務をデフォルトできず、家計がリカーディアン的に行動する。ここでは金融政策が物価を規定する。しかし政府がデフォルトする状況では、将来の財政余剰に応じて物価が調整される。これがFTPLである。ここでは財政政策が物価を規定する。

2つは同時に成立しないので、本気で考えるとレジームスイッチングのようなモデルが必要なのだろうと思う。しかしあまり理論も実証も研究できてない分野である。

まあ自分がもしも当事者だったら、とにかくインフレを抑え込みにかかるだろう。景気も大事だが、高インフレが厚生を悪化させる側面の方が強そうだ。

Economês: panaceia para remediar todos os males

A determinação do nível de preços na FTPL pressupõe que o regime fiscal não zelará por satisfazer a ROI do governo em qualquer circunstância. No jargão da FTPL, é a hipótese de um regime fiscal ‘ativo’, ou ‘não ricardiano’. Se, pelo contrário, o regime fosse ‘passivo’, ou ‘ricardiano’, a ROI valeria como identidade, pelo ajuste endógeno da postura fiscal, e não determinaria o nível de preços de equilíbrio. A MMT não reconhece tal condição de equilíbrio, muito embora o regime fiscal que propõe adotar seja, aos olhos da FTPL, nitidamente ativo, ou não ricardiano.”

Assim falou Eduardo Loyo, economista, sócio e membro do Conselho de Administração do Banco BTG Pactual, a respeito da polêmica recente sobre a “Moderna Teoria Monetária” (MMT para os íntimos) e pela controvérsia de dois anos atrás sobre ‘neofisherianismo’ e sua prima-irmã̃, a ‘Teoria Fiscal do Nível de Preços’ (também chamada pela sigla em inglês, FTPL). Para o leigo em Economia, mas leitor do Caderno de Fim-de-Semana do jornal Valor (31/05/19), esse discurso hermético, onde se usa e abusa do “economês”, pode ser lido como ato ou efeito de empulhar. O logro, a tapeação, o embuste, a mentira, tudo de ruim transparece na falta de transparência desse jargão profissional. Mas o pressuposto é remediar todos os males.

Economês é a linguagem em um estilo supostamente típico dos economistas. É linguajar destinado a não ser entendido senão por um grupo restrito. Em geral, quem demonstra menosprezo pelo saber de outros profissionais se utiliza de um texto excessivamente complicado ou obscuro, repleto de termos técnicos de Economia e Finanças.

O esnobismo de economistas ortodoxos despreza também seus colegas heterodoxos e pressiona a mídia brasileira para não dar espaço no debate público às suas “sandices”. No meu caso, defendi como tese de Livre-Docência no IE-UNICAMP há 25 anos, em 1994, a organização de postulados de uma Teoria Alternativa da Moeda: Fernando Nogueira da Costa – Por Uma Teoria Alternativa da Moeda – Tese de Livre Docência (1994)

Publiquei-a parcialmente em livro impresso, na Editora Makron Books, em 1999. Foi finalista do Prêmio Jabuti. Por não ter sido divulgada em inglês e por ter sido defendida na UNICAMP, embora tenha a graduação em Economia no primeiro lugar no RUF (Ranking Universitário da Folha), a tese não foi lida por professores de escolas ortodoxas.

Praticamente, não há debate público entre as diversas correntes de pensamento econômico, seja na academia, seja na mídia brasileira. Pela falta do contraditório, governos e empresários cometem erros em suas decisões econômico-financeiras. Não vislumbram as alternativas entre opiniões especializadas.

Por exemplo, uma aliança de esquerda em Portugal definiu uma alternativa à política de austeridade centrada em maior crescimento, mais e melhor emprego e mais igualdade. “Virar a página da austeridade” foi o lema eleitoral dos socialistas capaz de atrair o apoio de comunistas e do Bloco de Esquerda para formar governo. A fórmula, batizada depreciativamente como a Gerigonça, se transformou em um sucesso dois anos depois, apesar do receio de organismos como a Comissão Europeia e o FMI. Eles velavam pelos bilhões de euros emprestados em 2011 para impedir o país quebrar.

Somente dois anos após, pela primeira vez desde a adesão ao euro, Portugal já cresce acima da média da União Europeia: 2,7%, a maior taxa de crescimento neste século. O salário mínimo subiu de 505 a 580 euros e chegará a 600 no próximo ano, respectivamente, R$ 2.057, R$ 2.362 e R$ 2.444. Se em 2013 o desemprego chegou a 16,2%, hoje baixou para 8,9%. Os funcionários públicos tiveram os salários descongelados, as aposentadorias subiram e o Imposto sobre Valor Agregado (IVA) de produtos básicos deixou de ser taxado em 23%. O déficit público, acima de 3% há dois anos, é de 1,1% e no próximo ano será de 0,3%.

O crescimento não é devido a um aumento de gasto público, porque vem das exportações, com um aumento de 11,7%, e do investimento, com elevação de 9%, especialmente o privado e o estrangeiro. Também ajudou muito o aumento do turismo: no ano passado, o país superou seu recorde de visitantes, com 20 milhões, quase o dobro da população portuguesa.

Aqui, o obscurantismo censura “os heterodoxos”, tipicamente os pensadores de vanguarda. Impede a busca de alternativas à política econômica de austeridade, onde só se tecla, de maneira robotizada, a “reforma da Previdência”. Confira, como exemplo, o ataque do economista aos próprios autores em lugar de debater as novas ideias.

“[Não fique com] uma falsa impressão de equidistância da profissão entre a FTPL e a MMT. Formularam e propagandeiam a FTPL acadêmicos perfeitamente inseridos no campo dominante da Macroeconomia, alguns com merecido destaque. As hipóteses que conduzem às conclusões peculiares da determinação fiscalista do nível de preços são facilmente distinguíveis, e sua consistência teórica presta-se a um escrutínio disciplinado dentro da própria modelagem convencional. A resistência mais forte que enfrenta é à vigência empírica dessas hipóteses, que aparenta ser um evento raro no mundo real (embora a evidência nesse sentido não seja irretorquível). A MMT, por sua vez, é extravagante e marginal mesmo no universo acadêmico, polêmica até no interior do campo heterodoxo, pelo que um contingente dominante de estudiosos enxerga como sérias lacunas lógicas em sua cadeia de argumentação. (…) No debate econômico global, modismos heterodoxos reciclados são como a mitológica sereia, que não manteria sua presença milenar na parada de sucessos sem cantar um repertório continuamente antenado às demandas do momento.”

Virando a página, o que se lê na primeira entrevista exclusiva do presidente do Banco Central do Brasil, o neto do Roberto Campos? Apenas o truísmo da palavrinha-mágica – credibilidade –, sustentando a forma correta de estimular a economia ser pela credibilidade da política monetária. “Eu vou lá e reduzo os juros, porque eu quero dar um impulso à economia. Provavelmente, o que vai ocorrer nesse cenário? A curva de juros vai inclinar, os juros futuros vão subir”, afirma. Mas ele vê sinais positivos em O Mercado (com maiúsculas por ser tratado como um ser divino, sobrenatural, onipotente, onipresente e onisciente) ao avaliar ter aumentado “a confiança na aprovação da reforma da Previdência, o que leva à queda da inflação implícita nos títulos públicos e a uma melhora na curva de juros”. ‘tendeu? Nem eu com 45 anos de profissão não entendo essa mitificação de um canal de transmissão inexistente. Os colegas substituem fundamentos econômicos objetivos por subjetividade dos agentes econômicos – “estado de confiança na credibilidade” – como o decisivo na Economia.

O argumento reducionista e simplório é: as Autoridades Monetárias adquirem credibilidade com a própria manutenção da política contracionista, acima das pressões políticas para mudá-la. O equilíbrio fiscal é relevante para elas não se verem forçadas a acomodar déficits públicos com emissão monetária. Nessa abordagem novo-clássica, a inflação é reduzida pela elevação da taxa de juro: se isso causa ou não recessão depende muito da credibilidade na mudança de regime monetário. Acredita todos os agentes fixadores de preços e salários ajustarem seu comportamento  para ficarem de acordo com o modelo dominante no arcabouço mental dos economistas no comando da economia. Eles extrapolam sua opinião especializada para toda a opinião pública!

Mas nem tudo está perdido, caro leitor leigo.  Na tabela abaixo vou lhe ensinar a pronunciar de acordo com “o conhecimento do charlatão”. Charlatões agem como se tivessem algum conhecimento. Aprenderam a se apresentar, aparentemente, como os sábios. Para tanto, juntam em frases-feitas os verbos usuais, os substantivos sem substância e os adjetivos laudatórios. Juntando essas palavrinhas-mágicas das colunas, verdadeiras panaceias, você formará lugares-comuns em um discurso rebuscado. Será capaz de enganar trouxas e esconder seu desconhecimento de causa. Certamente, com esta linguagem, obterá sucesso em O Mercado.

A Requiem for the Fiscal Theory of the Price Level

The Fiscal Theory of the Price Level (FTPL) is the claim that, in a popular class of theoretical models, the price level is sometimes determined by fiscal policy rather than monetary policy. The models where this claim has been established assume that all decisions are made by an infinitely-lived representative agent. We present an alternative, arguably more realistic model, populated by sixty-two generations of people. We calibrate our model to an income profile from U.S. data and we show that the FTPL breaks down. In our model, the price level and the real interest rate are indeterminate, even when monetary and fiscal policy are both active. It has taken 20 years of stalled policy processes to get to this point. 12時前起床。昨日21時まで面談をし夜更かしをしたので残当である。面談では論文への姿勢や書き方について、非常に沢山のアドバイスを頂けたのだが、今日は以前の仕事の尻拭いやそれにまつわる考え事をしていたら一日が過ぎてしまった。明日埋め合わせるとしよう。

FTPLについて（某所では色々絡まれそうなので）こちらで少し考えをまとめたい。お目汚し失礼します。

最も単純な2期間のケースを考える。第一期に政府が100の減税を行い、国債を発行し、第二期に100の増税を行うとアナウンスする。第二期に実際に増税でその国債を償還する。このケースでは、合理的な家計が第一期に減税を受け取っても、将来の増税を予期してすべて貯蓄に回すため、減税が経済に影響しない（リカードの等価定理）。

次に、第一期に政府は同じく100の減税を行い国債を発行するが、第二期の増税が90しかないとアナウンスするケースを考える。自分はここでnominalとrealをよくごっちゃにしてしまうのだが、ここまでの数値は全てrealである。しかし、国債はnominalの貸借契約であり、政府はそれをデフォルトさせるわけではない。要するに、realで90の増税で済ますというアナウンスは、10のインフレを起こすというインフレターゲットと同じことである（と理解している）。将来のrealの負担が90に減ったわけだから、合理的な家計も第一期に消費を増やすことになる。どこまで消費を増やすかと言えば、政府債務契約が正常に履行される水準、つまり10のインフレが起きるところまでとなる。

あーだこーだ考���てみたが、この話は一応ここで完結しているようだ。マネーが選択肢に入った場合などはまだよくわからない。最近はこの理論を用いてデフレ脱却を図るという議論がやや熱を帯びてきた。しかし、本当に「将来のrealの増税が小さくなる」というアナウンスが信用されるだろうか。

この話の肝は、債務契約がnominalであるという一点に尽きる。しかし、現実の政府債務の大きな部分を占める年金は、物価に連動してスライドすることになっている。その意味でこの理論にあてはまらない債務である。人々がどこまでこのことを理解しているかわからないが、そう考えるとrealな増税を減らすことは本当にできるだろうか。あるいはそう信用させることは可能だろうか。

The very first map of Follow the Power Lines the game is complete, and I'm actually proud enough of it to post it without feeling bad. It's a slow slow process but I really hope to get somewhere eventually.
