I made a Trans Sheik oneshot. I love the legend of Zelda and Sheik/Zelda gave me trans vibes from Oot. This oneshot is an Au where Link wasn't sent back to his childhood.

A couple months after Hyrule was saved and Link had a place at the castle, Zelda looked over the balcony in her room. Even though she almost died multiple times, she couldn't help but feel like she missed those days. Running around in masculine clothes and going by ‘Sheik’ brought her serotonin. She wanted to fight and be manly, like Link. However, she couldn't do that now. She had to help the civilization by being the princess. 

Her father didn't help much either. He always reminded her how princesses didn't fight. He got her more dresses which she didn't exactly enjoy. Yeah, skirts were cool, but the long and pink dresses made her want to vomit. She'd much rather wear a blue or navy tunic.

Impa walked into the room and saw the princess looking over hyrule from her balcony. She could tell something was up. The girl had been through a lot of trauma after being kidnapped.

“Good afternoon, princess Zelda,” She greeted her. Zelda winced at that title and name.

“Is something wrong?” Impa asked, leaning her elbows on the concrete bars. She was a fairly chill assistant/bodyguard. When Zelda was younger, she was sort of a parental figure towards her too. 

“Have you ever wanted to be someone different?” Zelda asked.

Impa was a bit shocked at this. I mean, she was a literal princess. Almost everyone would want that. But she answered a bit truthfully.

“Sure, sometimes I want to be a knight but I'm here, and I gotta deal with it,” she replied.

“No, I mean, have you ever wanted to be… a boy?” Zelda nervously said.

“Well yeah, being a boy has perks,” 

“No! You don't get it. I want to be sheik again…” Zelda admitted. Impa then realized what she was talking about.

“Oh,” she said in shock. She knew Zelda enjoyed doing that but always thought she was just a tomboy. 

“I- I don't know why I feel like this…” Zelda covered their face with their hands, tears slowly falling.

“Hon, I think I know what's going on,” Impa explained. 

“Y-you do?”

“Yeah, I think you might be trans.” She said.

Zelda uncovered her face and looked at her confused.

“Trans?”

Impa was a bit weirded out that they didn't know about that. They were 16. She then remembered how sheltered they were. The king wanted them to be perfect and normal and sheltered them from many things.

“So basically, Transgender means that your gender is different from what you were assigned at birth. Like, if you feel like you were born in the wrong body, it's a big possibility you're trans. But don't fully trust me in this stuff. I'm just a lesbian,” Impa told them

“So am I a boy?” 

“Do you want to be one?”

“Yes!” they said with enthusiasm.

“Then I guess you are, Sheik,” Impa smiled over to them. Sheik beamed at that name. They liked it a lot.

“What kind of pronouns do you want to use?” Impa asked. This started a new explanation. But after Sheik finally understood, he answered.

“He and They, please” 

“Alright. Welp, that's good to know. I'm glad I can help you out. I should get back to work though. I’ll give ya a haircut later. See ya, Prince Sheik,” Impa waved as she left. Sheik felt a massive amount of serotonin. It felt so good to be called ‘prince’. Hopefully, that haircut would be soon. Nonetheless, Sheik felt extremely good that he now knew what he was.

hell yes i can!! I love trans Time, trans that man's gender. oot link is like the vibes of transgenderism compressed into one single silly little guy (gender neutral). however people trans oot link's gender is always correct in my mind (i personally hc him to be ftm but i really do love seeing any version of him that's not cis)

im gonna apologize rn for any typos or oddly autocorrected words im dyslexic and my laptop works against me sometimes lmao

anyways not sure what exactly you wanted to know (and feel free to ask more questions!!) but i think this was in reference to my modern au post so!!:

Time was born in the late 70s (since the au takes place in present day and he is a good 25 years older than Twi), so growing up he didn't really see a whole lot of trans people who could've helped him realize he was trans sooner, especially because his childhood was mostly him having an awful time with his physical health and arguing with his father for the chance to go to public school and not be homeschooled like his siblings (he is the youngest of 6) because he didn't get along with all of them and wanted to meet new people

Looking back on it NOW he can recognize he realized he was trans when he was like, 12, but at the time he didn't really know what that was and just cut his hair short and didn't understand why he got so happy when people mistakenly called him a boy

There was a period of time where he was confused and thought he was a lesbian (he is bisexual) and he dated Ruto for like a year in high school but they kinda ended up becoming friends instead (they're STILL friends), and then he dated Sheik, who is a trans man, and the realization hit him like a bus

He graduated high school and then just kinda dipped off the map, he didn't realy have friends (besides Ruto, and MALON considered them friends but he didn't realize she liked him that much) so he didn't really keep in contact with people except for Sheik (he was also doing pretty bad physically at this point in time), but he started socially transitioning around 18 and was able to start medically transitioning around 20. Not all his siblings were super accepting, and he's completely cut contact with one of them, but his sister closest to him in age who was his best friend growing up was his biggest supporter

(this modern au takes place in a modernized Hyrule kingdom loosely based on where I live because obviously where I live is the best idea I have of how modern sociey works since I'm living in it, lmao, but Hyrule kingdom was a little more progressive in the late 90s and while gender affirming care wasn't SUPER easy to access, it WAS accessable. the main issue for Time was transphobia from his oldest brother and the people from his INCREDIBLY tightknit town, because outside of that people didn't know he was trans)

Malon was fully aware he was trans because she met him before HE realized that, so when those two got together he didn't have to worry about telling her or anything. And they WERE going to adopt kids at some point, but then Time's sister died and her husband had passed away too and she'd written in her will that she'd wanted Time to take care of her baby (Twi), because she wanted him to have a wonderful environment growing up and she trusted Time more than their other siblings even though they'd all already settled down and had their own kids and were experienced parents (also to be fair, she didn't expect to die and leave her 13 month old an orphan. it was just an IN the event of her death kinda thing, she very much would've rather been able to raise her kid herself)

Time doesn't really give two fucks about passing, not anymore, he wears what he wants, but most people DO assume he's a cis man because he's decently tall and has a deeper, monotoned voice. Transphobia does still exist in Hyrule Kingdom, though it's not as bad as it was when Time was a kid, and also the city where the boys' apartment in is incredibly LGBTQ+ friendly (not that that means homophobia and transphobia don't exist, it's just a much safer area to be out that other places in the kingdom) so he doesn't ever feel like he has to HIDE being trans. He goes to pride parades sometimes (when he knows he won't get overwhelmed) and he and Malon are definitely that older couple who give out free supportive parent hugs to people who really need it

Legend in this au is also a trans man, and I wouldn't call Wild cis but he's amab and uses he/him pronouns at the moment while he figures things out (he's also perfectly fine with they/them)

Im trans, I dont really like gender/sexswapped characters mostly due to the fact.. when you see a male/any other sex changed to a biofemale its PURELY for smut reasons. And I just find that disgusting?

I love smut, I read smut of all relationship types, but I've come across A LOT of fics even in like.. TLOZ a03 that have Links Meet AU and the Links getting used/abused are somehow magically biofemale now just for smut. It gives me the ick, almost violently.

Having Sheik be a male? Perfectly fine, he's literally referred to as a male from OOT npcs (Ruto I think?). Having Sheik still be Zelda 'in disguise' but ftm? Perfectly fine, theres valid character development to back this up.

Characters being genderswapped because it helps people identify/reasonate with them more? Why not. But I doubt it'd be in such a way to just use the character as an object in a smut fic. Just my two cents i guess.

Though I don’t ever want to assume someone’s intent behind writing something that or make assumptions about them as a person. I guess I was just purely thinking about someone drawing a character to be of a different gender as an exploration of a ‘what if’

Where the FUCK is the ftm Zelda fics i'm dying. you're telling me y'all saw sheik and didn't make more than like, 20 of them??? that's wild to me. you saw a character whose very existence has been tied to being a princess, incredibly publicly, who struggles within the confines their role, and you didn't go "what if he was actually a boy with no support system who desperately wanted to transition but was worried about how the public would see him"??? Anon here! I completely agree with TP being the hottest (even without a fixation on the wolves). Like you said, he is the most fleshed out, he's slightly ridiculous, and he's part of the community. I also think for me it's because I love the moody atmosphere of the TP world, it's just... so good? (Minus the City in the Sky, and the oocca - what the fuck). I genuinely bought a WiiU just to play TP lol.

I'm forever sad there's no Sheik in the game though, I'd love to read stories set in the universe. I have a full Link/Sheik hc set in the universe myself... and I can't wait to see what you'll do with it once you finish Sanctuary!

I also think that he actually objectively is the most attractive Link. He looks pretty mature (BOTW Link looks like TP Link with some influence from Wind Waker Link which isn't great, although his body is 10/10 and excellent against FTM dysphoria), and his clothes are SO GOOD and his colour palette is too!

Nintendo should give us more moody queer Link, ahhh the dream! (I know there's not a lot of queerness in-game but there is to my heart and that's all that matters)

Totally agree with you about botw Link being TP Link with influence from WW!! The mood of TP literally cannot be topped imo. MM comes close, but TP still has a bit of an edge imo. Since we’re on the topic of HCs, I really view TP as a somewhat direct sequel to Oot and MM. I mean, Time is in the game. They’re confirmed descendants. I guess it’s not even really a HC at this point. But then you look at the official timeline and you wanna scream into the void so… 💀

BIG AGREE about the more gender neutral Link designs. My non-binary goblin ass really idolizing that body shape waaaaaaay too much. 😅

I’ve thought about this a lot as a transmasc individual who grew up liking the idea of them being separate, and I think part of it for me might be how that plot line ended. Sheik was revealed to be Zelda, the dress is back, and is immediately captured to fulfill the “damsel in distress” role. I don’t really remember this because I have a terrible memory was a kid who wasn’t psychoanalyzing myself, but it makes sense that the idea of being forced to detransition would have been off putting.

Now I like the idea a lot more, both a ftm framework or a more fluid one. Especially the idea of her/him/them being confused about their gender (because of dressing as a different gender that long without the self-actualization of getting to choose it).

Sometimes, I think: OoT Princess Zelda is queer coded.

But then I see that the fandom likes to treat Sheik as a separate entity from Zelda and I get a little sad and think, "Am I the only one who does?" 🥲

Prince has gold eyes, as does every other Zelda except Sheik. Prince is ftm trans.

Moon has markings on his face. His cheek markings look like stars while he has a crescent moon shaped marking on his forehead (this is where he got his nickname from)

Siren has memory issues due to being repeatedly catapulted into things

Courage also has memory problems for the same reasons as above. His eyes started out blue but after killing demise they went red

Siren

Siren is WW, ST + PH link! they are 14. they're still a pirate, but they make more time to visit Aryll and their grandma back on Outset. They are banned from using the windwaker unless absolutely necessary because they're a complete riot of a child. They have a pet pig who is appropriately named Chunk. Aryll made them a bracelet which they wear 24/7! they're small, so they find squeezing into small areas much easier than most others. Has a peg leg

Prince

Prince is ALTTP, ALBW, OOS, OOA, LA + TFH link! he is 16 and is the twin of Queen, his zelda. he and his sister are working royals, so while he is a prince he is also a blacksmith! there is a permanent portal between Hyrule and Lorule in the castle garden, and Ravio still leeches off of lives with him! he's autistic and semi-verbal. he uses crutches to get around. Prince also splits into King, Duke, and Princess, but it only works in Hytopia. They're trying to sort out a way to do it without the wizard

Light

Light is FSA, FS + MC link. he is 17! He splits into Vio, Red, Green and Blue at will. For a good part of his time with the other links, he does not have a shadow, since Shadow died. He's kind of a roulette wheel in terms of how he acts, what he knows and what he can do; but it's easy to adapt to whatever his “mood” is any given day. He and his Zelda are very close, to the point they think of each other as siblings. Light has a minish feather on a necklace along with four charms that represent the colours. He lies a lot, and sometimes he doesn't even realize he's lying. Threatens people to get his way sometimes. Autistic + has ADHD. Blue has OCD and Vio has severe anxiety

Moon

Moon is TP link! his wolf form is much bigger than an average wolf, so it's obviously the result of magic. He's 27 and married to Shad. He mainly looks after the kids in Ordon, but still cares after the goats when he can. He has basically no relationship with his Zelda outside of being civil. He still has a bit of heartache relating to Midna but he's getting better. Basically everyone's parent

Courage

Courage is SS link! He's 28, and married to Wisdom, his Zelda. After killing Demise he gained some of his powers, but he really doesn't like to use them. He has a small fear of storms after what happened to Wisdom and he never really forgave himself for what happened to her. He still has her harp and he's extremely cautious about time since he really doesn't want to be late ever again. His loftwing is called Crime.

Sprout

Sprout is OOT + MM link. he's still got all the masks he got during mm, but his favorite is the deku mask. He's 30! He's in a platonic marriage with Malon, and they live on a farm together. He has a necklace with a blue fairy charm because he still misses Navi :( he likes just sitting in the woods and staring off into space just...doing nothing. it's a bit creepy. Likes to steal. Might be a kleptomaniac, he isn't sure. He has a lot of facial scars due to the overuse of the masks he'd obtained.

Warriors

Warriors is HW link. he's Linkles twin brother! He's 31, and dating Sheik <3 (his Zelda is a trans king tyvm). he basically adopted Sprout during the war and he basically became a single father at that point in life. He has to use a cane to walk and he has a fair amount of burn scars. He's retired but still gives his advice to training soldiers. living his best life. Proxi speaks for him as he is completely mute. he struggles to tell the difference between left and right and uses his hands to remind himself

YESSS ive talked (EXTENSIVELY) about this before LMAO but basically i think sheik is nonbinary!! i like the idea of him using both names (sheik and zelda) and she/he pronouns interchangeably. to me its like. a kid who grew up totally powerless fucking with some established conventions a little bit as a nice little show of the power she's since reclaimed. She gets to define her gender on her own terms regardless of what makes sense to everyone else!!

I also think he's trans in all timelines, so even when link resets everything he still starts using the name sheik and fucking around with his pronouns later in life. the name "zelda" has a lot of expectations and attachments that come along with it that just... don't ever come to frution in the child timeline because of link's actions, so it gets to a point where she doesn't feel quite like "zelda" defines her completely, but she also doesn't want to fully abandon a symbol of her heritage and, in some ways, a symbol of the sacrifices link made, too. so he keeps both names and uses whichever feels right in the moment!

i especially like the idea of link growing up with zelda for like 10 years and just. in the back of his head hes like. WAS that an egg thing or did she just really want to cosplay a sexy ninja for a bit. like hes PRETTY sure she's gonna trans her gender at some point but there's no easy way to be like "so i watched you have a gender crisis in another timeline. how r we feeling about being a girl rn"
