Still getting used to leaving his car in the parking lot and instead making his way through the city on foot, Matty has miscalculated how long it takes to get to the bar where they'll meet. He takes long, deliverate steps, but still he can feel the tension grow with every foot he puts forward. He's been doing the odd job here and there for a connection, but this feels like a next step. He's actually carrying a stack of passports now, this isn't just being a driver or an extra body in a confrontation.
When he finally makes it to Barbarella, he checks his phone and cocks his head to the side. He caught up some of the time and ends up only eleven minutes late, not as bad as it could be, but also not great. Immediately as he walks in, he looks over to the table on the far left side, underneath the lamp by the window, as the instruction had said, and though he doesn't usually have many expectations, the patron sitting at the table isn't exactly who he thought he'd see. When he thinks of a forger, he imagines a hacker-style nerd with a hoodie over his head and maybe some leftover cheetos on his sleeve.
"Yo," he quips once he's close to the table, unsure how to proceed. "You.. Smythe?"

his perspective shifts as the woman - a welcomed interruption to his isolation - slides onto the stool beside him. the man hesitates for brief seconds, caught off guard by the attention "ur sweeter than cherry pie arent ya” heath answers, appreciative yet guarded. an unexpected kindness that momentarily lifts the weight on his shoulders “just a whiskey, thanks ma’am” his request tinged with a blend of weariness and gratitude, as if the amber liquid holds the promise of solace in its depths. finally, he meets her eyes, a glimmer of curiosity in his own “i’ve got a hankerin’ for a drink and that dipshit refused to look ma way. i was fixin’ to get it myself”
WHO: @heathmorgan WHERE: Top of the Standard.
He seems to be continuously being ignored. She's not sure why. If it was a trivial matter such as attractiveness, as she'd heard bar service is often judged by, then the man is plenty handsome enough to get by. He does look rather- somber though. Alcohol is one thing you should never sell to a sad man - that or a gun.
Still, while he looks a type of down that might be served better by sobriety, it doesn't seem to be his plan for the night. And when the bartender looks her way, despite her arriving presumably long after, she takes pity on the man and sidles beside him. "Can I get you something?"

top ten sondheim songs in your opinion (can be in any order)
Anon, I hope you know that asking me this is the equivalent of asking a mother to pick her favorite kid. Yeah, sure okay, she has a favorite, but making her admit it is like pulling teeth. So. I've compiled two lists for you: one of my personal top ten, and one of the objective top ten I think should/could be considered the best. I'm also going to be indicating my preferred renditions of these songs, because that plays a major factor into things. Also, because I'm incapable of being concise, you're also getting a brief explanation on at least my top ten, so...enjoy. Or, my condolences, I guess. You had no idea the can of worms you were opening.
My Personal Top Ten: (in no particular order, and only at this specific point in my life right now this second)
1. The Ladies in Red segment of the Sondheim 80th Birthday Celebration concert (2010): "The Ladies Who Lunch," (Company) - Patti LuPone* "Losing My Mind," (Follies) - Marin Mazzie* "The Glamorous Life," (A Little Night Music) - Audra McDonald "Could I Leave You?" (Follies) - Donna Murphy* "Not a Day Goes By," (Merrily We Roll Along) - Bernadette Peters "I'm Still Here," (Follies) - Elaine Stritch* Right off the bat, I'm cheating. Four (*) of my top ten are just from this segment of the concert so I'm squeezing them all into one so I can include more songs. Quick rundown of why: self-explanatory, c'mon. Donna's "Could I Leave You?" is my number one Sondheim, hand's down.
2. "The Girls of Summer," (The Girls of Summer) - Gabrielle Stravelli Sondheim Unplugged is a monthly cabaret series at 54 Below, and I go to every show. It's really opened my eyes to some of these hidden gems. It's just a fun little number.
3. "What More Do I Need?" (Saturday Night) - Kelli O'Hara (90th Birthday Concert) The song that finally made me decide that I was in love with Kelli O'Hara and sopranos were actually breathtaking people who deserved my adoration. (Still an alto lover at heart though)
4. "We're Gonna Be All Right," (Do I Hear a Waltz?) - Marin Mazzie & Jason Danieley Naughtiest couple on Broadway sing a naughty duet. Truly, what more could I ask for? I love a bitingly antagonistic song.
5. "There's Always A Woman," (Anyone Can Whistle) - Jan Maxwell & Victoria Clark And speaking of bitingly antagonistic. This is a song where two Divas get to be catty bitches to an absurd degree, and I cannot get enough of it. I also deeply love and miss Jan Maxwell. And where else are you going to get Jan Maxwell calling Vicki Clark a whore? Incredible.
6. "The Madame Song," (The Seven Per-Cent Solution) - Bebe Neuwirth Clever wordplay, sexy brothel madame, wink-wink nudge-nudge raunchy. Sung by my beloved Bebe Neuwirth. Obviously a winner.
7. "The Story of Lucy and Jessie," (Follies) - Jan Maxwell Follies is my favorite Sondheim show, and Phyllis Rogers Stone is my favorite Sondheim character. And while Donna Murphy is my favorite Phyllis, I go to Jan Maxwell for this song. She was just so sublime. The song itself is clever, cutting, and choreographed wonderfully every time.
8. "Take Me to the World," (Evening Primrose) - Soara-Joye Ross The actual movie this is from is so fucking weird, and if it were Charmaine Carr's version, I wouldn't look twice at it. But I had the pleasure of hearing Soara-Joye Ross sing this song at the first Sondheim Unplugged show two days after his death. And it was just...wow.
9. "The Miller's Son," (A Little Night Music) - Elizabeth Stanley It has everything I love in a Sondheim. Clever lyrics, brutal pacing, and the danger of tripping up even the best cabaret performer. When you're cocky, that's when Sondheim gets you. Elizabeth Stanley has only ever been attractive to me in this specific video.
10. Being Alive," (Company) - hear me out. Hear me out. Marquee Five (ft. Sierra Rein) Okay, okay, I know, obscure choice here. However. Up until I heard this rendition, I did not really care about this song. Any male version went in one ear and out the other. If you couldn't tell by my list, I am almost exclusively dedicated to older broads. And yes, Patti has a fantastic rendition, and so do lots of other women. But this one with its harmonies and its alto lead singer does it for me like no one else.
Objective Top Ten Sondheim Songs: (order arbitrary, rendition my preference)
1. "A Weekend in the Country," (A Little Night Music) - the Rebecca Luker one 2. "Getting Married Today," (Company) - Madeline Kahn (alt. Katie Finneran) 3. "Could I Leave You?" (Follies) - Donna Murphy 4. "Being Alive," (Company) - Marquee Five 5. "Losing My Mind," (Follies) - Marin Mazzie 6. "Someone in a Tree," (Pacific Overtures) - 90th Birthday Concert 7. "A Little Priest," (Sweeney Todd) - 80th Birthday Concert, but most renditions are fantastic. 8. "Finishing the Hat," (Sunday in the Park with George) - Mandy Patinkin 9. "Sunday," (Sunday in the Park with George) - Marquee Five, but any version is transcendent. 10. "Loving You," (Passion) - Donna Murphy If you're somehow not sick of me yet, ask me to give a no-commentary top 100, ranked in order, then we'll really have fun.

Who: Julien and Audra Where: The Beach Bonfire
“Hey, Red!” Julien called out to the girl from his seat not far away from the bonfire, his eyes glued to the youngest Lithuanian while she got closer to the fire in a severely drunken state. “You get any closer you’re going to become a bit crispy.” The boy stood, wiping the sand from his backside while he made his way towards her...well, stumbled his way. He probably shouldn’t have been any closer than she was but that was beside the point. When he came up beside her, Julien took a look at the fire, tilting his head as he assessed it. “Yea that looks hot.” Nodding his head as if he had finally determined something not so obvious, he looked back at Audra and smiled softly. “I basically just saved your life, you know. The least you can do is tell me your name.”

Nora, my love,
I’m so sorry that this is incredibly likely late. I’m in England at the minute, so I’ve had to post it! I’ve put in a few things you’d like as this is a combo-Birthday and Christmas pressie! Thank you so, so much for everything you do for me, dear, it isn’t an exaggeration to say I’d be lost without you.
I can’t claim to be an expert on flower language, but hydrangeas (according to funnyhowflowersdothat.co.uk!) represent gratitude, grace and beauty, which I felt was fitting. And hummingbirds are joy and healing, I believe. Also very apt! The books are just ones I quite liked and felt you’d appreciate, I really hope you do.
Merry Christmas, love, I’ll see you in the New Year!
Love,
Audra x

Broadway Divas Tournament: Round 1A Audios
Ahead of the Broadway Divas Tournament commencement later this evening, I have compiled a small collection of personally-recorded audio bootlegs pertaining to our first sixteen Divas. Unfortunately though my 55 GB folder of audios may be vast and varied, it is exhaustive, so apologies to those I have never seen (Cherry Jones Jan Maxwell, and Janet McTeer), and to those in two separate productions of Cinderella that I have since lost (Paula Leggett Chase and Rebecca Luker).
(Turns out there's a ten-audio limit, so see the reblog for Patricia Clarkson who's going to be all by her lonesome unless I can find those damn Cinderella bootlegs from over a decade ago.)

LOCATION: OUTSIDE THE JUMPING JACK POWER PLANT TIME: BEFORE THE 6 PM SYNDICATE MEETING WHO: FOR @audrasmythe ; @wxkethedead ; @ibrahim-ziani
Theo’s reminded, as he stands outside in the May weather, just how much he hates the summer. The air’s a kind of sticky humid, and it lingers on his skin as he leans against the exterior wall of the power plant. Maybe if he inhabited another body he would come off as cool and casual, but Theo being Theo, he mostly just looks a bit grumpy. There’s a joint between his fingers that he pawned off of Izaak, and the irony isn’t lost on him, smoking something rolled by the man who’s probably going to rank near the top of the hit list they’ll compile tonight.
Theo takes a deep inhale and lets it out slowly, trying to savor the remainder of the joint while he still can. He doesn’t usually come to Syndicate meetings high, not on weed or on anything stronger, but this meeting especially feels like one where tensions will be high, and he’d rather not contribute to that. Rather mellow out for the group and, if he has to freak out, do it later, in privacy. When he does look up from the joint, it’s only because he sees other people coming, figures that he knows well to be other members. “Well howdy,” he greets, an underlying sarcasm to his greeting. “We excited for our little girl scout meeting? I’m really gunning to finally get my Outdoor Adventurer badge tonight.”
