Quiet mornings with Shigure Sohma
Pairing: Shigure x reader
Word Count: 1,4k
Synopsis: While you're surrounded by mess and trouble all day, you can't help but enjoy those mornings with none other than Shigure.
Warnings: the fic no one asked for, I fell for fruits basket so hard that you guys are forced to read my trash now hehe, fluff over fluff
The weather outside is soft today. Not warm, not cold, just enough of something in-between to make the morning feel cozy. You’re sitting cross-legged on the floor like you always do, sunlight pooling across your lap, your hands holding a ceramic mug of tea. The house feels quiet with all the kids gone, without Tohru’s soft voice and the boys fighting over nonsense. But that peace, you know, is an illusion. Or, at the very least, a temporary state.
Because Shigure Soma is never quiet for long.
Right on cue, there’s a shuffle of feet against the floorboards, and then his voice - a melodious hum that could belong to someone much less chaotic.
“My darling,” he calls, the sing-song lilt of his tone already filled with teasing.
“How rude of you to start your morning without me. My feelings are positively shattered!”
You tilt your head just enough to see him standing in the doorway, one hand pressed theatrically to his chest as though wounded. His yukata is draped carelessly over his shoulders, the belt knotted loosely at his waist. His hair is a little messy, and he hasn’t yet shaved the faint stubble on his jaw. But the sight of him - rumpled, relaxed, utterly himself -makes warmth bloom in your chest anyway.
“Shigure,” you say with an exasperated smile, “it’s past ten. I’m not going to wait forever for you to wake up.”
He gasps as though you’ve just insulted his ancestors.
“Ah, how cold-hearted my sweet muse is! If you loved me, surely you’d have brought me breakfast in bed-”
“I made tea,” you interrupt, raising your mug pointedly.
“And there’s toast in the kitchen. If you want anything else, you’re on your own.”
He pouts, but there’s a glint in his eyes that tells you he’s not offended in the slightest. He never is, really. Shigure’s ego might be gigantic, but it’s not fragile. If anything, he seems to flourish on your chit-chat, your little refusals lightening up his mood even more. It’s a dance the two of you have perfected, a rhythm of soft blows and exaggerated reactions that always ends in laughter.
Shigure pads across the room and lowers himself to sit beside you, far closer than necessary. You feel the brush of his knee against yours, the gentle press of his arm as he leans in, peering at your face with open curiosity.
“And what, pray tell, are you thinking about so deeply, hmm? You’ve got that faraway look again.”
His voice is quieter now, softer. You don’t miss the way his eyes linger on you, their usual playfulness tempered by something more genuine.
You hesitate, caught off-guard.
“I’m not… really thinking about anything,” you reply, though it’s not entirely true.
There’s always something brewing in your mind: a stray memory, a half-formed plan, the ever-present hum of life’s what-ifs. How are you supposed to enjoy the present with the past and future weighing down on you this heavily? But explaining those things feels impossible, so you simply shrug.
“Just enjoying the quiet, I guess.”
Shigure hums thoughtfully, tilting his head as if to examine you from a different angle. His dark eyes are warm, patient, even as his lips twitch with the beginnings of another grin.
“Ah, yes. You’ve been enchanted by my humble house. It’s no wonder you’ve fallen for me so completely.”
You roll your eyes while taking a brief look at the destroyed shoji, don’t bother moving away when he rests his head against your shoulder. His hair tickles your cheek, and you can smell the faint trace of his shampoo. Definitely something light and floral. Did he use yours again?
“You’re insufferable,” you murmur, but there’s no real bite in your words.
Your free hand comes up almost instinctively to comb through his hair, smoothing out some of the more unruly strands. He hums again, this time in obvious ease.
“You’re so good to me. “Really, I don’t deserve such a kind, gentle soul.”
You snort, flicking his ear lightly.
“That’s the first truthful thing you’ve said all morning.”
Shigure doesn’t respond right away, but you feel him shift, his weight settling more fully against your side. It’s a little unbalanced, but you don’t mind. His presence is warm, comforting against the sometimes harsh reality. And though he’s quiet now, you can sense the wheels turning in his head, the way his mind is always spinning with something - mischief, poetry, or the occasional genuine thought he’ll tuck away for safekeeping.
It’s in moments like this that you’re reminded of the duality of Shigure Sohma. He’s a mystery wrapped in jokes and half-truths, a man who wears his whimsy like armor but lets it slip when he’s close enough to trust. And though he can be infuriating, there’s a softness to him as well, a tenderness that he rarely shows but always carries.
“I like this,” he comments suddenly, his voice low enough that you almost miss it.
He doesn’t move, doesn’t look at you, but you can feel the weight of his words settle in the space between you.
“Like what?” you ask quietly.
“This.”
He gestures vaguely, his hand brushing yours where it rests on the floor.
“The mornings with you. The quiet. The way you let me bother you without pushing me away.”
There’s a smile in his tone while his breath caresses your skin gently, but it’s faint, almost self-conscious.
You blink, taken aback. Shigure is rarely so direct, so open. When was the last time he talked this seriously with you, let alone with his voice this muted? You don’t quite know what to say, but you feel something shift in your chest, a fluttering warmth, soft and fragile.
“I like it too,” you admit, your voice barely above a whisper.
“Even when you’re being a nuisance.”
That earns you a chuckle, low and rich. Shigure lifts his head to look at you, his eyes crinkling at the corners in a way that makes him look far younger, far happier. He doesn’t say anything, but his gaze lingers, warm and steady, as though committing you to memory.
For a moment, the two of you simply sit there, the world fading into the background. The sunlight shifts, casting patterns across the floorboards, and the faint scent of tea and spring air fills the room. It’s the kind of moment that feels fragile, like it could shatter if you so much as breathe too loudly. You can’t help but allow your eyes to rest for a moment, to take in the calmness of the moment.
But then Shigure sighs dramatically, breaking the spell.
“Ah, I suppose I’ll have to go hunt for food if I want to survive this cruel, neglectful treatment.”
You laugh, the sound light and unrestrained.
“There’s toast in the kitchen. You’re so dramatic”, you remind him again, shaking your head.
“And yet you adore me,” he remarks, pushing himself to his feet with exaggerated effort.
He stretches, his yukata slipping slightly from one shoulder, and you catch the briefest glimpse of his collarbone before he adjusts it. A man looking this good with that cheeky mouth…How is your stay here supposed to end in a good way?
“Maybe I do,” you reply without thinking.
The words slip out way too easily, carried by the warmth in your chest and the sight in front of you.
Shigure freezes, his hand halfway to his hair. For a moment, you think you’ve gone too far, that you’ve somehow crossed an invisible line. Does he feel uncomfortable, insulted even? But then he turns, his expression unreadable, and you feel your breath catch.
“Careful, my dear,” he murmurs, his voice low and almost teasing.
There’s a flicker of something else in his eyes. something softer, more vulnerable. Something you’ve never caught before in his gaze. For a moment, time seems to stand still, your breath gets stuck in your throat.
“I might just take you seriously.”
You hold his gaze, the words lingering in the air between you. And though your heart is racing, you manage a small, steady smile.
“Maybe you should.”

𝕥𝕙𝕚𝕤 𝕨𝕠𝕣𝕜 𝕔𝕠𝕟𝕥𝕒𝕚𝕟𝕤: angst, fluff, pining, topic of grief, awkward!hatori and awkward dialogue, hatori getting that ending he deserves
Hatori was taken aback, all his thoughts were put on hold as his focus was redirected to the sudden hole he felt in his heart.
He hadn’t felt such intense emotions in such a long time, it even took him a few seconds to label what they were.
Regret, anger, remorse, attachment, loneliness.
Tears rolled down the doctor’s face, his jaw clenched as the thread between God and Dragon severed. Hatori could only accept the repeating conclusion in mind in this spiral of emotion. Goodbye.
Yet, as Hatori blinked, his gaze back towards the sky, the emptiness seemed to wash away, making way for something else. Hatori felt the warmth of the sun shining on his face, like frozen snow melting due to the first breath of spring. “What comes of snow when it melts?”
Hatori’s eyes widened, his gaze blurry as his heart tightened in his chest. He couldn’t even breathe. What was a few moments in time felt like an eternity. Hatori felt like his spirit left and came back with a hard-hitting force. It was like a second awakening. When was the last time he felt this warm? When was the last time he felt like this once eternal blizzard would come to an end. The usually collected doctor everyone knew Hatori to be now is akin to a lost boy trying to find something familiar in an unknown world.
Hatori had to make peace with the way things must be after suppressing your memories, telling himself endlessly that those memories of you will remain intact on that snowy day. This was to protect you, your happiness, your future, your freedom. Thus, Hatori was more than willing to support you from afar, to watch you smile rather than spend your days in tears, crying for him. He was okay with the routine he had persisted to abide by, till Tohru came along. He couldn't help but see you in her panic when he transformed in front of her. “Water! Wait, hold on, which kind of water does he need? Freshwater or saltwater?” He could only hear you, see you, remembering the sight of you panicking as you held a flailing seahorse in your arms amongst a pile of clothes. Now that the curse broke, Hatori realizes he is entering a new life entirely, one with a cage, a leash, without snow.
Hatori couldn’t help but let his mind wander along the numerous possibilities that have opened up. He’s certain everyone was with the ones they cherished. He stared back at the picture of you on his desk, tears welling up in his eyes at the thought of liberation. “Could I…” He whispers, almost afraid that someone may reprimand him for such questions. Could I see you again? Can I see you smile once more?
Hatori’s body, as if on impulse, sprints out of his office, swiftly putting on his shoes. It only registers in his mind as soon as the sun greets his face that he is heading towards a destination he’s been aching to go to for so long. He takes familiar turns within the outside of the Sohma estate, his feet being worked in ways Hatori hadn’t had done so in a while. His heart beats wildly in his chest, the very thought of being near you makes him feel nauseous. However, the sound of a squeak stops Hatori in his tracks, his feet halting as his head snaps towards its direction. He almost wishes he hadn’t.
“Ah, damn,” You mutter, almost wanting to cry out of frustration. You were quite the pathetic sight, at least that’s what some of the clan would say. To Hatori, this was almost on brand for you: standing still in shock as cans and boxes have fallen out of the now torn plastic bag, a whole clutter of items spilling onto the path. Hatori knew the reason too well. She overpacked.
His brow furrows, his bottom lip almost quivering as his once determined steps now creep with trepidation. Should he approach you? Will you welcome his presence, or will you press some distance? Will he be able to speak? Will he be okay with the possibility of this interaction being a one off? Hatori finds his mind remembering the day he had suppressed your memories, the day the cold snow felt nothing compared to his hand resting on your head. He can’t shake off the sight of you crying, not out of anger towards him, but out of frustration towards yourself. Even till that moment, you were thinking of nothing but him.
“I’m sorry,” You weeped, your eyes unable to meet his own in utter shame, “It’s my fault for not protecting you.” Hatori remembered how your shaky fingers tried to find his bandaged eye, resting on it, your touch trying to commit it to memory. How it was your fault. It was all your fault.
Hatori knew you had that narrative sealed in your conscience, and he only kneeled with teary eyes. None of his words could soothe you, relieve you, protect you. Yet, a selfish part of him spared a few more seconds, knowing that this could be the last time he’d be able to touch you, feel you under his fingertips, even if it were to erase the memories of the most beautiful mind he’s ever seen.
“H-Hatori,” You cried. Whether it was your plea for him to stay longer, to soothe you once more, or to curse him, Hatori didn’t know. All he knew was that he could not bear to associate his Spring with sadness and tears much longer. So, he did it, erasing the memories of those blissful two months.
The memory alone was enough for Hatori to turn his back to you, feeling as though he was foolish for even attempting to get close to you once again. Yet, the quiet mutterings that are heard from you make his eyes close, making him remember how your voice alone was once proof of the domesticity he had achieved in being with you. How it brought the warmth of Spring to the otherwise barren and unfeeling winter of his life. “Here, allow me,” Hatori blurts out, turning back around to be by your side. He kneels beside you, picking up the rest of your groceries that have fallen out of your bag.
Your breath couldn’t help but halt, your eyes blinking in disbelief at the sight of the man beside you. “Hatori?” You ask, almost as though you were accidentally conjuring up his visage instead. Yet the sight of his focused gaze on your groceries told you otherwise. Little did you know how the mere utterance of his name was enough to make the family doctor’s heart wrench.
“You overpacked again,” Hatori grunts, carefully taking the rest of your grocery items in his arms. The sight of his lips curled up at the corners was enough for you to smile. Whether it is out of embarrassment or giddiness, you aren’t too sure yourself. You only knew it was a delight seeing him.
“Ah, I guess,” You say with a lighthearted laugh, cradling the other half of spilled groceries in your arms. Neither of you were able to get a word out of your mouths, the tension in the air palpable. You knew better than to stay in this awkwardness for a moment longer, so you motion with a tilt of your head towards your arms. “Here, you can place those groceries here, my house is not that far away. I’m sure you’re busy, I think,” You ramble, unsure of how to at least make this conversation flow without it being so awkward. In your point of view, you had confessed to Hatori of your love in the past, and Hatori had gently let you down, saying he was not looking at such commitments at the time. It was not long till you stopped being his assistant, too embarrassed to even be in the same room as him after your strong confession.
“I’m not busy today,” Hatori reassures you, that smile of his face small yet genuine. It only makes you swoon, just as it had when you were his assistant. “Besides, I believe you won’t be able to carry all of this with a torn bag, let alone in your arms.” It was a sound argument, and it was safe to say it was in alignment of your current interest in mind.
Hatori now found himself walking side by side with you on the way to your house. He merely asked you what you have been up to, and you’re back to the way you were. Your eyes seemed to be a window to your soul, your emotions on full display as you talk about your recent endeavors. You were always quite the chatterbox, and the mere reminder being right in front of him rather than a memory was more than enough for Hatori. Here you are, running back and forth in the kitchen, Hatori having to watch you as he leaned against the wall. The amount of times where Hatori wanted to cry at the sight of you was enough to make Hatori lose count. You weren’t even noticing how attentive Hatori was being, the way that small smile remained on his face as you rambled. It almost feels like it was one of those days, those days where you beckoned him after work to do domestic things. Be it grocery shopping, making lunch, or taking a walk around the estate, you have always enjoyed living life alongside Hatori.
How he aches to live like this once more.
“Monstrous, Loathsome, Cursed.” These were the only words Hatori had ever been able to describe himself and the Sohma family. They were untouchable, isolated, and their reliance had been only towards one another within the Zodiac. It was greatly underestimated how often you make Hatori feel so human, how often you remind him of the possibilities he has always had access to. Even with suppressed memories, your infectious glee and your genuine kindness has that same effect.
“You’re quiet,” You note quietly to Hatori, your gaze one of concern as you put away the last of groceries in your kitchen space. The attention drawn to him makes him snap out of his reverie, the doctor blinking as he processes your words a second longer than needed. “I’m fine,” Hatori grunted, a small nod to you as an attempt to get you off his tail.
“Are you sure?” “Yes, I’m sure.” “No, Hatori, I mean it. We both know that I chat a lot and-” “Y/N.” “And listen! It’s such a valid complaint! I’ve done a bit of growing up you know and-”
“I just missed you!” Hatori groans, the words charged with frustration at face value, yet to him, it meant more. So much more. Seeing that it stuns you to silence, Hatori couldn’t help but realize he may have been too harsh in his delivery of words. However, the mere fact that he no longer was staring at a picture frame, no longer relying on his mind to conjure your visage, no longer wondering if his memories of you remain outdated…
Hatori Sohma has never felt so alive.
And so, he takes a quiet inhale and exhale, knowing a chance like this is rare.
“I just miss you,” Hatori admits, his voice quieter now, one that uncovered his vulnerability, his longing. You were only looking at Hatori in surprise, your lips parted as you remained stuck in place. You have never heard Hatori speak with such conviction, always associating Hatori with logic, reason, level-headedness. Yet here he stands, as if it hurts to breathe, as if the room shrunk ten times smaller. “I know that given what has transpired between us it sounds unlikely, but I quite enjoyed your stories. Forgive me for sounding harsh-”
“Then have lunch with me,” You blurt out, saying it as though it is the easiest problem to solve.
It throws Hatori off, leaning forward against the counter to make sure he was hearing you correctly. “What?” “You miss me. I missed you. We catch up over lunch.”
“You’re being hasty over this. It is not that simple.” “Oh, but it is!” You argue back, the sliver of hope giving you that same courage to push for this, the apparent need of time with one another. Your hopeful smile falters, your jittery behavior returning in the form of twiddling fingers.
Hatori’s gaze softens seeing it, knowing very well that this was indicative of the possibility of you backing away from the offer. The idea of you doing so shatters Hatori’s heart, reminding him of the times before, where especially with Akito’s harmful words and actions, you did nothing but blame yourself. Hatori never wanted you blaming yourself for something that you wholeheartedly ached for. “I’m sorry,” You say, your tone more distant.
“No, um, I’m sorry,” Hatori grunts out, looking down at his hands. He almost wants to yell at himself for being like a naive teenager who knew nothing of the world. It feels like his years worth of bargaining, denial, and self-reflection were seemingly being thrown away by his own hand. He has to do this, either commit now, or be left wondering for the rest of his life. Hatori has spent too much time wondering and thinking of ‘what if’s. Hatori wants to commit to the former. “It’s just been so long,” Hatori confesses, his shoulders starting to slump in resignation. It felt good as it was terrifying, resigning to the truth. It felt better knowing he was showing this side of him in front of you once more. “It’s been a while since we saw each other. I’ve been wondering how you were, if I am being honest.” Hatori saw the way your eyes seem to light up at his admission, the way you smile in embarrassment. It was infectious, enough to make you smile. He almost melts on the spot seeing how it lights up the world around you both.
“Then, do you have the time to stay for lunch? Maybe to catch up?” You ask quietly, the smile never leaving your face. Hatori watches you tilt your head to the side in curiosity and hope, your brows raising in anticipation for his answer. Hatori could only let out a quiet chuckle, shaking his head. Persuasive as always.
“Of course,” Hatori breathes, a relieved smile on his face that mirrors yours upon hearing his words. Hatori sighs, pushing himself off of the wall and heading for the door. You look over at him in confusion, already trailing after him. If there was any force that he’d willingly surrender to, it’s you. The way you allow him room to respond, to choose, to decide. You remind Hatori of his freedom of choice, of his right to choose, his right to see Spring again. Only then does he regain his footing, his confidence, himself.
“Hey! Where are you going? I was going to-”
“You aren’t making anything,” Hatori replies flatly, slipping on his shoes before opening the door for you. “Let’s go. Lunch is on me.”

APRIL SHOWERS, MAY BRING FLOWERS.
With spring rolling around, he couldn’t help but peer at the dainty, blushed petals that floated down from the cherry blossom trees. Every step was like he was walking on a cloud— whimsical, inviting— and only the lull of passing cars gave contrast to the twinkling of the bright sunlight.
Is this a date? He thought, continuing down the pathway. Or perhaps he was just overthinking. Maybe this was just all a misunderstanding that his fluttering heart convinced him with. No, no. You couldn’t possibly like him back. While ruminating within his thoughts, his feet come to an abrupt stop.
“You’re here!”
The sound of your voice was like the rays of sun beaming through the cracks of the branches. His eyes tore away from the pavement below and locked onto the bright ones that dazzled upon your face. Perhaps he had been staring for too long, as the silence of the situation dawned on him. Act fast.
“Hey,” he cooly replied, closing the gap between the both of your figures.
A mere chuckle let out from your lips, and you turned around to continue to walk down the flowery path. “I wasn’t late, right?”
“No, no… Or maybe I’m early. So that makes you extra late,” he playfully quipped, nudging you gently on the shoulder. He knew you would roll your eyes at that comment. Oh, you actually did.
“It’s 12:15 on the dot,” you protested, “Our set time is 12:20. So technically, we’re both late by your terms.”
He stifled a laugh and quickly turned his head to the side, finding solace in the presence of you and the blooming blue bells, fluttery cherry blossom petals, and tulips. He would put you in the same category with the flowers, nonetheless.
“Always so pretty during this season,” you commented, following his line of sight to gaze at the tiny flowers that dotted along the path. You reached down to graze the tips of your fingers along one. A quick glance from the flowers onto the soft looking hair of yours— The tempted words spilt from his mouth.
“They’re always pretty every season.”

OMG FRUITS BASJET?!
Could you do a kyo x male reader?
I have had the fattest crush on him since elementary school LMAO
Anyways could it be like reader never knew kyo could turn into a cat, so when he sees kyo turn into a cat and just instantly feels his heartstrings tug. He starts cuddling with kyo's cat from till he turns back into his human form, but reader didn't know he becomes naked when he turns back so he starts freaking out about it lol.
I'm sorry if I butcher this shit up and if my English is bad and you don't understand my point. English is my first language but I get very nervous with sending in request so I feel like I butcher shit up lol.
Hi! I am so sorry for how long it took me to answer this!! I'll make it extra long just to make up for it. Thanks for being patient! ^^
Kyo Sohma x Male Reader
Okay, so, I actually love the thought of queer relationships between the zodiac. It's always been very cute to me, plus it would save them from turning into an animal when they want affection.
Also, for these headcanons, let's just say that trans men/transmascs don't have any effect so that it stays inclusive! (I know Fruits Basket isn't the most trans-inclusive, but we're ignoring that)
Anyway, this would most likely take place before you two start dating. I doubt he'd be the type to commit to a relationship before revealing this part of himself. He's not good at this sort of thing.
So, right now, y'all are just friends. Most likely, you met at school. You're in the same class, or you met through one of his cousins/Tohru.
At first, he avoided you. It had nothing to do with you in particular - he just hates being social. Eventually, you do manage to interact with him, and he decides you're chill enough to be around. So you two become friends.
One day, you, Kyo, Tohru, and Yuki are hanging out outside of school. This is the first time you've hung out with them outside of school, so this is new territory for you. Specifically, the four of you went to the library to study for an upcoming test.
You sat in a back corner, away from everyone else. Tohru had gotten up to go grab a book, but she tripped over the leg of the chair. Kyo was sitting next to her, and he's the one she falls into. Suddenly, there's a puff of smoke, and when it clears, you see Tohru holding an orange cat, and Kyo is nowhere to be seen.
Tohru and Yuki look panicked, and you're confused. The two of them scramble to come up with some kind of explanation, but all you can think about is how adorable the cat is. You assume it's Kyo, although you couldn't explain what happened.
Tohru had put Kyo down by this point, and he walks across the table to get to you. His eyes have the same deadpan look they usually do, which is funnier in his cat form. Sensing no hostility from you, Yuki and Tohru are able to calm down a little bit, and Yuki is able to get a proper explanation out. You process only some of his words, too focused on how cute Kyo looks.
Without much thought, you scoop him up in your arms, gently holding him close. Kyo makes a startled noise, but doesn't struggle too much. Yuki looks amused as he ushers Tohru away, intent on giving you two some alone time.
Kyo asks you what you think you're doing, and you're shocked he can still speak in this form. You shyly explain that you just thought he looked cute, and your body kind of just moved on its own. You go to put him down, but he doesn't budge from your arms. It's barely audible, but you swear you heard him say something about him enjoying the embrace. You chuckle at that as you hold him tighter. If you listen closely, you can almost hear him purring softly.
Then, another puff of smoke appears. When it dissipates, you see Kyo standing in front of you, back to his regular human form. Except for the fact that he's completely naked. You turn away, flustered that you saw him in such a state. Kyo also turns around, tripping over himself as he looks for his clothes. Neither of you speak a word, and it's around this time that Yuki and Tohru make their return.
Yuki still looks amused by the situation, choosing to tease Kyo. Tohru is immediately flustered, still not used to seeing the boys after they transform back. As the boys continue fighting, Tohru comes up to you, asking if you're okay. She knows from personal experience that this kind of situation can be startling, so she wants to make sure that you're feeling alright. When you respond in the affirmative, she smiles.
Kyo and Yuki stop bickering, and Kyo is fully dressed once again. He can't quite make eye contact with you, but he does apologize for what happened, if in his own tsundere way. You laugh a bit, explaining that you're fine, just a bit shocked at what just happened. The three nod, as they can all understand how you feel.
By this point, none of you are in the mood for studying anymore, so you decide to pack up for the night. As you walk out of the library, you turn away from them, as your home is in the opposite direction of where they live. However, you feel something grab your hand, and when you turn to look, you see Kyo. He's still not making eye contact, and his face is a little red, but his grip on your hand is strong.
Quietly, he asks if he can walk you home. You're shocked, and you can hear Tohru cheering in the background as Yuki tries to silence her. After a moment to recover from the shock, you smile and him and squeeze his hand, accepting his offer. He makes eye contact with you for the first time since the incident, and you can see a small smile appear on his face. He tells the others that he'll meet them at home, and you're on the way to your house.
As you walk, Kyo explains everything in as much detail as he can. He leaves out all of his family drama, as that's a story for another day, but he does bring up his curse and how it works. You jokingly remark that he wouldn't transform with you, since you're both boys, and he laughs a bit at that. He gestures to your hands, still interlocked, and states that even holding hands with a girl would cause him to transform. That makes you laugh as well.
Soon you're back home, and he drops you off at your door. He squeezes your hand one last time before letting it go, and he asks if you'd like to hang out again, to which your agree. You do make one more sly comment about wanting to see him as a cat again, telling him that he looked oh so adorable. He groans, but it's all in good humor. He leaves, already thinking of plans for next time.
The two of you don't start dating right away. It takes more time, but this is the first major step. Also, he's willing to be more affectionate with you because he knows he won't transform. It's nothing more than hand-holding on leaning against you for right now, but when you do start dating, he gets very clingy, especially in public.
You don't get to see him transform that often since you don't cause any of his transformations, but when you do get to see it, it's always a treat. He gets so flustered when he transforms, and it worsens when he transforms back to human. You've gotten used to the nakedness after the first few times, but he never quite does, especially when you're around. It's cute.

fateful encounter
paring: Ayame Sohma x Kazuma Sohma summary: Kazuma meets someone during the parent-teacher conference that changes everything. warnings: no warnings, just gay pining word count: 2.1k+ author’s note: This is the kind of thing that lives rent free in my head and I thought I would share it. I plan on doing a Fruits Basket au about the two of them, but I have other things I need to finish. Also, I always draw Ayame blushing like a slut and thought I would show Kazuma's reaction (below). Repost from ao3, art by me! 💜
Love cannot be forced, love cannot be coaxed and teased. It comes out of the heaven, unmasked and unsought. -Pearl S. Buck
The day was waning away with the last of the students, and their parents, filtering out of the classrooms after they finished their scheduled parent-teacher conference. Kazuma, always patient, always amiable, stepped forward with his son in tow only to be halted by a storm that barreled through the hallway.
Kazuma remained at Kyo’s side, hugging a little closer to the wall to allow the mother of Yuki Sohma to push past with a sneer carved on her sharp features, the clack of her heels echoing off the linoleum. Yuki was following after her, the remorseful gray of his eyes downcast, a slouched petitance with his steps as if he was weighed down by her rude actions, though Kazuma would never hold the young man accountable for them.
“The actions of others are never about you,” he had told Kyo years ago when he first brought the boy home. “They are only acting for themselves, never for you.”
He wondered if anyone had ever told this to Yuki.
The mother and son entered the classroom, taking their time slot, and the door slid shut behind them, leaving Kazuma and Kyo alone to wait once again. He looked down at Kyo and was surprised by the empathy that was twisting into the scowl his son always carried–the red on his nose and cheeks clashing with the mess of his hair. Kyo was vibrating with a struggled composure, his eyes trained through the window slit on the door while every muscle ticked in his features, listening in on the rise and fall of that woman’s voice.
She was muffled, but her arrogance still cut through, speaking over the teacher and drowning out her son.
Kazuma followed Kyo’s line of sight to see Yuki seated at his mother’s side, wilting away with each word. The boy was stricken silent, pale and beaten, far too world-weary for someone his age.
It pulled at his heartstrings.
“Do you know that boy?” Kazuma asked.
His question was soft, just a tentative touch to understand the emotions that were playing across Kyo’s face. Kazuma knew who Yuki Sohma was–everyone at the estate knew who Yuki Sohma was–but he also knew of the rivalry between his son and the rat. It was something deep seeded when he found Kyo, a foundation from centuries passed, something that festered a hatred that burned as red as his hair.
Which was why his son’s sudden rigid posture caught him off guard. He saw how Kyo steeled his jaw and clenched his fists as he watched Yuki, but Kaziuma knew that his visceral response was a different kind of aggravation that unknowingly unearthed itself.
To anyone else it would just seem like the continued animosity between the cat and the rat, but Kazuma knew his son, knew his kind heart beneath the fusion of guilt and rage. He could decipher the empathy that was lining Kyo’s furrowed brow, bleeding from his crimson eyes and pouring over Yuki.
This kindness showed more often since his friendship with the girl named Tohru began, a frequency to a freshly compassion that always thrummed beneath. It was a look that called to Kazuma, alighting his savior complex, but instead he paused, wanting to understand the reaction unfolding in front of his eyes.
He was curious to see if his son truly wished to help the boy.
So Kazuma waited.
“He clearly does not want her to speak for him, and she does not care about anything he has to say.” Kyo was quiet, careful to knit his words together with his dawning realization, a newfound perspective on his lifelong adversary. “Yuki seems so…”
Wounded. But Kazuma did not say this out loud; he never wanted to persuade an original thought from his son, but always allowed Kyo to come to his own conclusion and then support whatever he decided on.
“I see now that he is not as fortunate as me,” Kyo finished, looking up at him.
Kazuma was not expecting that train of thought and it struck him with a warmth that pooled into his chest, swelling his heart against his ribs. It confirmed the compassion he always knew existed within his son, something blossoming with Tohru, something vibrant albeit fleeting.
But still, it returned, and it always lingered a little bit longer each time.
Kazuma said nothing in response, but shifted closer to wrap his arm around Kyo’s shoulders, pulling him for a hug against his side. His son begrudgingly leaned into it, his embarrassment burning bright from the public display of affection despite the hallway being empty save for them.
“Perhaps Yuki could use some help,” Kazuma offered, tucking his chin down; Kyo nodded in return, his eyes avoiding.
He smiled as he let go of Kyo with the good intention to step forward, to go help Yuki, only to be halted yet again but this time by the grandiose entrance of a man with silver hair.
Kazuma felt rooted, captivated by the almost ethereal beauty that the man possessed. His hair was pulled back and flowed with his steps, a determination and a grace with his gate, and the subtle sway of his slender hips that pulled Kazuma’s gaze. The man was lithe and lean, dressed in rich, burgundy fabrics that complemented his figure, his ivory complexion that was flawless and glowing, his exquisite features surely carved from marble.
His proximity pulled the air from Kazuma’s chest as he breezed past without sparing him a look–it even had Kyo averting his eyes. A floral scent followed after from the bouquet of roses he carried, his delicate fingers wrapped around the bundled stems.
Kazuma watched as he pulled open the door with flourish, his voice lyrical as he announced himself.
“Greetings, all! I have finally arrived!”
The door slid closed behind him and Kazuma mourned the barrier between. He felt in a daze from the vision, propped against the wall by the silence and emptiness the man left behind, settling over like a fog. His abstract gaze fell back to Kyo to see the familiar scowl burrowing back on his features, his eyes boring through the floor at his feet. Kazuma remained quiet, wordless, enraptured; he shifted his weight, daring to peer through the same window to try and catch another glimpse of the silver haired beauty.
He saw that the man had forced himself between Yuki and his mother–a knight serving, bold and defending. He was squared off towards her, guarding the young man from her hateful stare with a taunting curl to his lips.
It left Kazuma flustered.
For as long as Kazuma remembered, romance was never something that came easily for him. He had a sweetheart while he was attending school, someone who just followed after him aimlessly and who always pressed for something more; when he did not reciprocate, they rightly moved onto someone else who would.
It did not fare better as an adult, but Kazuma still accepted whatever set-up was managed, often encouraged by Kyo. He did not care for the meet-ups, as too often they seemed daunted, almost annoyed with the topic of his son.
It rarely, if ever, reached a second date.
Kazuma never minded this, though. Despite his amorous shortcomings, he was still a romantic at heart, and it was encouraged by the books that Shigure would often drop off. It gave a rose tint to his life and beyond those pages, when he noticed the slow burn between his son and Tohru, he tried to tactfully approach the subject.
Kyo scoffed at him, demanding that he keep his focus on finding someone to finally settle down with.
“‘Love cannot be forced, love cannot be coaxed and teased,’” Kazuma began a quote which had Kyo groaning, rolling his eyes. “‘It comes out of the heaven, unmasked and unsought.’”
Kyo tsked. “What do you even mean by that?”
“You will understand that when you are older,” he teased.
In truth, the idea of dating, muchless to fall in love, was something that Kazuma no longer bothered himself with, but that was before this very moment when he watched the moon incarnate waltz in starlight through the school hallways with the subtle sway of his hips.
Even with the door drawn shit, Kazuma still felt the pull of the man’s proximity through the classroom walls, and it was vibrating his bones beneath, entangling, enrapturing, pulling him out along with the tides.
Kyo noticed the immediate change. “Are you all right?” The concern in his son’s voice broke through his thoughts and Kazuma straightened himself, the blood pouring into his face. “You look…flushed.”
In truth, his throat felt dry, clawing for the words to reply, but fortunately the door opened once again. This time it was Yuki’s mother rushing from the room, her fury red on her face and her hands shaking to smooth away the wrinkles from her blazer and skirt with her frantic steps to get away.
Yuki was quick to follow after her, propelled by some epiphany ablaze, something that now held his shoulders higher than before.
Kyo watched after him for a moment before he looked back up at Kazuma, his worry anew. “You can follow after him and make sure he is all right, if you want,” Kazuma suggested, though he knew that his son was not asking for permission, but for reassurance of what was plainly written on his face.
Kyo nodded and followed after, but kept a mindful distance, leaving Kazuma alone again in the hallway. Only then did he dare to look through the now open door, his heart pounding.
Kazuma saw the teacher who seemed drained, but sat up straight once she noticed his gaze, peering through the roses she was gifted. “Oh! I’m so sorry to keep you waiting! We can begin if you’re ready–” she pushed to stand and the silver haired man followed, turning to see who she was speaking to.
Kazuma fell back into the trance from before, the stars swirling and blurring around him. He swallowed, his blood coursing, and he felt pinned in the doorway by the molten golden eyes that poured over him.
“Oh my!” the silver haired man’s musical tone began, a touch of pink to his cheeks. “Did my dastardly mother’s inconsideration cause a delay in your scheduled time with this wondrous educator?” –the teacher muted her groan, burying her face back into the bouquet– “I would apologize on that woman’s behalf, but I know that she will surely repeat her ghastly behavior!”
There was a passion with each syllable that left Kazuma entranced, pulsing with his heartbeat. “It’s all right,” he gave a sheepish smile, his cheeks staining red from the rhythmic bruising of his heart against his chest. He forced himself to look back at the teacher. “We can begin when Kyo comes back.”
The man brightened with the name, his eyelashes fluttering with an impish smile. “Oh, oh, are you the father of Kyokichi?”
Kazuma chuckled at the pet name, knowing already how Kyo would hate it. “Yes I am. My name is Kazuma.”
“What a pleasure it is to meet you finally!” The man pressed closer with the same flowery scent, subtle and sweeping away the air around them. Kazuma felt his head buzzing, relishing in the sight of the pink dust on the man’s cheeks. He looked down to see his hand was offered. “I am Yuki’s brother, Ayame.”
His touch was a welcomed contrast to the warmth and calluses of Kazuma’s palms, delicate and soft and cool, something that set his nerves alight. The simple gesture shattered whatever contentment he believed to have before meeting Ayame, splintering his insides and rushing to the surface, pushing sharp against his skin.
Kazuma never wanted to let go of him; he wanted to cradle Ayame’s hand and run his fingertips along the lines that carved into his palm, to interlace his fingers and see how they would fit within his own.
And Kazuma realized he found something he had not even realized had been missing.
He surfaced from that thought, jolting back to attention. Ayame had not pulled away but was watching him carefully, coyly from beneath his long silver lashes.
Relief washed over, hope widening Kazuma’s smile, white against his crimson features. “The pleasure is truly mine, Ayame-sama.”
Ayame’s laughter was just as lovely, just as melodic, trilling up the length of Kazuma’s spine. “None of that! You may call me Aya-chan, if you would prefer. Since your son and my brother are beginning their affinity for one another, I feel we are destined to become,” –his lips ticked upwards in the corner of his mouth– “closer acquaintances.”
There was nothing Kazuma wanted more.

Found Forever
Had a sweet request from @twilightlover2007 for a Momiji little something and this was so cute. It's a little short but I hope you like it <3
Pairing: Momiji X Reader
CW: none--fluffy fluff fluff
Momiji knew the moment he saw you that he had found his forever.
That day in the park had started like any other for him, a nice warm day for him to run and clear his mind when he saw the sweet little bunny stuffie fly out of the stroller being pushed by what could only be described as an angel.
‘It must be fate…’ he thought to himself as he chuckled and plucked the small toy from the concrete. He jogged alongside the stroller pulling an earbud from his ear and tapped you on the shoulder, your sweet face stopping his heart.
“Excuse me, Miss…I believe this belongs to you…” Momiji said with an accent and smile that melted you on the spot. A blush bloomed across both of your cheeks as your hands brushed ever so slightly at the exchange of the plush toy. “T-thanks…” you stammered feeling like a teenager again.
At the loss of momentum of the stroller your baby began to stir, making a fuss in her bundle and wanting her presence to be known. Momiji’s eyes lit up pleasantly at the sound of the baby. “What a sweet little face! What is her name?” he cooed looking down at your brunette bundle of joy. You reached into the stroller to grab your fussy infant who seemed to calm at the sight of Momiji almost instantly. “Her name is Mika–she is only a year old…” you smiled and kissed her cheek while Momiji smiled at the two of you fondly.
You looked over at the tall blonde with a blush and a smirk. “Hey, I never got your name. How do I know you aren’t some creep who follows around young mothers in the park?” Momiji froze and began to stumble over his words. “I..I am so.. No my name is Momiji..” he stared at his feet suddenly feeling like a small child again who was caught sneaking a treat when he had been told ‘no more sweets’.
You laughed loudly and placed your daughter back into her stroller. Momiji relaxed at the sound of your laughter knowing that it was the most magical sound he had ever heard. “Well, Momiji my name is Y/N if you would like to keep walking with us you can…” you offered with a mischievous lilt to your voice. You began walking without hearing his response, leaving him completely dazed. ‘Wake up Momiji…follow her!’
You soon heard his footsteps as he jogged alongside you and fell in step with you. The two of you walked until late in the afternoon talking about your less than amicable split with Mika’s father and him about his tumultuous relationship with his family; honestly it was cathartic talking with someone who was practically a stranger about the most deep parts of yourself…but when he walked with you to your car and helped you pack the stroller you had to admit you didn’t want him to leave.
“Y/N…” Momiji began to speak in a hushed tone, making you regret that the end of your time together had come. You nodded acknowledging him, “Can I see you and Mika again? I know that we just met and that it wasn’t exactly a date bu-”
You placed a featherlight on his cheek.
“You talk too much. Of course I want to see you again.”
You grabbed his phone and put your number into it telling him ‘text me or else no more cheek kisses.’
Walking away from your car that night he knew, you and Mika were his forever.

Hello!!! Would it be possible to write for hatori sohma from fruit basket childhood friend to lover with a some angst and fruff at the end of
Thank you😊
aww okay we NEED to do this 🥹
Hatori Sohma realizing you're more than a friend to him
Pairing: Hitori x reader
Word Count: 3,5k
Synopsis: You were around since he can remember. You, the only sunshine in his life, that woman he never gets tired of looking at. It takes Hitori too long to finally confess his feelings to himself. And then he's about to ruin everything...
Warnings: hurt to comfort, friends to lovers, this is sooo fluffy hehe
Hatori Sohma is not a man who easily surrenders to the urges of emotion. The weight of his family’s curse, the pain of his own heartache, and the gravity of his responsibilities have forged him into a man who exists with quiet detachment in the shadows since that one fateful day. And yet, as you sit across from him at Shigure’s dinner table, laughing softly at one of Shigure’s ridiculous remarks, Hatori finds himself lost in thoughts he was never prepared to face.
You’ve been his friend for years - a steady presence in his life, like the moon hanging quietly in the night sky whenever he needs it. While others come and go, bringing chaos and change, you’ve always been there, offering your unwavering kindness and support. A warmth he has leaned on more times than he’d care to admit.
Still, he didn’t even dare to think about you as someone other than a friend. He’s always been careful to sort his feelings when it came to you, forcefully avoiding that little skip of his heart whenever he saw you.
Especially after Kana. Loving her, only to have the curse of the Sohma family destroy what both could have been, left scars he’s not sure will ever fully heal. He buried those wounds deep, vowing not to allow himself the vulnerability of love again. Not when it always means agony. Not when he’ll never live a normal life like all those other men walking around the world.
But lately, his heart has been betraying him, and today, watching Shigure lean a little too close to you while you laugh, it stings in a way he doesn’t know how to rationalize.
Earlier in the day, it was Ayame who started to chip away at the walls Hatori keeps so carefully constructed.
“I must say, Haa-san,” Ayame had declared, lounging dramatically on one of Shigure’s couches, “it’s almost tragic how blind you are to your own emotions.”
Hatori sighed, pushing up his glasses. He had little patience for Ayame’s theatrics at the best of times, and today was no exception. Why again this talk?
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“Ah, denial,” Ayame said with a flourish, “the first stage of awakening!”
Shigure, who had been scribbling something in a notebook, looked up with a mischievous glint in his eyes.
“What Ayame means, Haa-san, is that you’re rather obvious when it comes to a certain someone.”
Hatori froze in place. Shigure and Ayame exchanged a knowing glance that made his stomach twist. Were they talking about…you?
“If you’re going to make a point, do it quickly,” he remarked, his tone colder than he intended.
Ayame smirked, unbothered by the sudden change of tone. Even though he’s so convinced no one knows, everyone saw the way Hatori looked at you earlier with that slight smile forming on his lips. Every one knows about that picture of you he keeps well hidden in his purse.
“The point, dear Haa-san, is that your little friend has managed to do something extraordinary.”
“And what’s that?” Hatori inquired, already regretting engaging in the conversation.
“She’s gotten under your skin. (y/n), I mean”, Shigure interjected smoothly.
“In a good way, of course. You’re different around her - softer, more… alive.”
Hatori frowned, hating the way his heart skips a beat how it always does when someone talks about you.
“That’s absurd.”
“Is it?”
Shigure leaned back in his chair, a sly grin tugging at his lips that usually means nothing but trouble.
“You’re a careful man. But I think even you can’t deny that she means something more to you. The question is, are you going to do anything about it?”
Before Hatori could respond, Ayame clapped his hands together.
“Oh, this is so romantic! The brooding doctor and his steadfast friend, bound by years of quiet affection, only to realize the depth of their feelings amidst life’s trials! It’s like something out of a novel!”
Hatori pinched the bridge of his nose.
“You’re both insufferable.”
Now, hours later, Hatori finds himself replaying their words. As much as he wants to dismiss their observations, there’s a nagging truth to them that he can’t ignore. He does feel different around you. You have a way of making the world seem a little less heavy, of making him feel seen in a way no one else does. Even though you know about his curse, despite the fact that you’ve seen him and other Sohma’s turn into animals countless times by now, you never changed your soft attitude towards him.
Just the thought of losing you, even to something as harmless as Shigure’s playful flirting, fills him with an ache he doesn’t fully understand.
“Earth to Hatori,” Shigure teases, waving a hand in front of his face.
“You’ve been staring at your plate for the past five minutes. Is something on your mind?”, you add with your brows furrowed in that way that glues his eyes onto yours in an instant.
Hatori shakes his head, brushing off the question. But when he glances up, he sees you watching him with a quiet concern that makes his chest tighten.
“Are you feeling okay?” you ask softly, your voice laced with genuine care.
“I’m fine,” he replies, his tone measured. But the truth is, he feels anything but fine.
The evening continues, with Shigure and Ayame carrying most of the conversation. You join in here and there, your laughter like a melody that Hatori finds himself clinging to. He stays mostly silent, his thoughts too tangled to untangle.
It’s only after dinner, when Shigure retreats to his study and Ayame bids an overly dramatic farewell, that you and Hatori are left alone in the living room. The atmosphere shifts, quieter, more intimate. You’re seated on the couch, your legs tucked beneath you, while he stands near the window, his gaze fixed on the garden outside.
“Hatori,” you say gently, breaking the silence. “What’s on your mind? You’ve been quiet tonight.”
He hesitates, the weight of your question pressing against him. How can he possibly put his feelings into words when he’s still struggling to make sense of them himself?
“It’s nothing,” he says finally, though the words feel hollow.
You frown, clearly unconvinced. “You know you don’t have to keep everything to yourself, right? I’m here if you need someone to talk to.”
Your words are a lifeline, and for a moment, he considers taking it. But vulnerability doesn’t come easily to him. Instead, he deflects. “Shigure was particularly annoying tonight.”
You laugh softly. “He’s always annoying. That’s part of his charm.”
Hatori’s lips twitch in the faintest hint of a smile, but it doesn’t last. The conversation lulls, and the silence that follows is heavy with unspoken words.
After a moment, you rise from the couch and cross the room to stand beside him. The proximity is both comforting and disarming. You don’t press him further, but your presence alone feels like an invitation—to let down his guard, to let you in.
“Do you ever think about the past?” he asks suddenly, surprising even himself with the question.
“Sometimes,” you reply, your tone thoughtful. “But I try not to dwell on it too much. It’s easy to get stuck in what-ifs.”
He nods, his gaze still fixed on the garden. “I envy that about you. Your ability to move forward.”
“You can, too, you know,” you say softly. “It’s not easy, but it’s possible.”
Your words settle over him like a balm, your voice so comforting that he forgets that numb feeling in his stomach for a second. He turns to look at you, really look at you. The way your eyes meet his, full of understanding and something else, something he’s afraid to name, something he’d never speculates about, makes his heart stumble.
“I’m not sure I know,” he finally admits, his voice barely above a whisper.
You smile, and it’s the kind of smile that feels like sunlight breaking through a storm.
What if you get hurt though?
Hatori can’t help but shake his head, breaking his gaze away from you. No, he can’t allow that to happen. He can’t come this close to you. What if he hurts you? Or what if you don’t feel the same way about him? Why would someone like you fall for him in the first place? You, known and loved by countless people, secretly admired by someone like Shigure as well. There’s no way you’d actually fall for him, right?
“You don’t have to figure it out alone.”
Gently, you place your hand on top of his. But instead of welcoming the warmth of your palm, he jerks up in his seat and leaves without saying another word.
The days following the incident were unbearable - for you and for Hatori, though he would never admit it out loud. He avoided you with a determination that bordered on cruelty. Every time you tried to reach out, he found an excuse to slip away. He didn’t answer your calls, didn’t allow you to visit him, didn’t even text you back when you begged for a single sign of life. Not even Shigure and Ayame were able to drag him out of this hole. Hatori hated himself for hurting you, for pulling away when all he wanted was to be close to you. But the fear of losing you, of ruining your life just like Kana’s, was just too much to bear.
It’s for the best, he told himself so often that he lost count on that little walk alone. Staying in his apartment meant getting reminded of all the times you visited him and sat on that one chair while sipping tea out of your own personal mug no one else is allowed to use. He needed to get out there, needed some fresh air to calm his mind.
Not even this warm summer day is able to comfort him, though. Not when every beautiful flower on his way reminds him of you, not when he imagines you in all those dresses displayed in the shopping windows.
Not when you’re standing just a few feet away from him with Shigure by your side.
Shigure and…you?
There you are, walking beside Shigure, holding an ice cream cone and laughing at something he said. The sound of your laughter, so free and light, hits him like a punch to the gut. Shigure, ever the charmer, leans in closer than necessary, his expression playful as he licks his own ice cream.
Hatori’s heart twists painfully, hands balling into tight fists on their own. He doesn’t have the right to feel jealous, no right to claim you when he’s done nothing but pushing you away.
But watching Shigure, so at ease with you, stirs something primal in him, feelings he tried to drown multiple times already. The thought of losing you - to anyone, but especially to Shigure – becomes unbearable.
Like in trance, he steps back, away from the scene that might make him lose his mind. No, he can’t feel like this about you, he can’t allow himself to be jealous when you’re not even his. All he did those past weeks was pushing you away. You’re not his, you’ll never be.
Hatori slams his door shut harder than necessary before gliding down the cool wood.
What is he supposed to do now?
-later-
You’re sitting in your small apartment, trying to distract yourself from the ache in your chest. The ice cream with Shigure had been nice, a kind effort of him to break you away from your train of thought, but it doesn’t erase the sadness you feel over Hatori’s sudden distance. What went wrong? Was it something you said, something you did? Was it because you tried to cheer him up by holding his hand that one evening? You didn’t really think about it twice, just tried to cheer him up when it was clear that he’s upset…
You can’t understand what went wrong. And it hurts more than you want to admit.
A knock at your door breaks through your thoughts. Did Shigure forget something or is he here to look after you. Maybe Tohru wanted to pay you a visit-
“Hatori?” you breathe out, your voice laced with surprise.
“What are you doing here?”
For a moment, he doesn’t say anything while you try to process the stinging fact that he’s really here. He simply looks at you, his eyes searching yours as if trying to find the courage he needs.
Then, in a voice thick with emotion, he mutters, “Can I come in?”
Your mind goes blank, lips not able to move. He’s really here. He didn’t forget about you. He wants to…talk?
Like in trance, you step aside, letting him enter. The air between you is heavy with tension as he stands in your living room, his tall frame seeming out of place in the cozy little space you can afford. You wait, unsure of what to say, as he struggles to find the words himself.
Finally, he turns to you, his gaze intense.
“I owe you an apology.”
“For what?” you mumble softly, though you already know the answer.
“For avoiding you. For pushing you away. For being…a coward.”
His voice is steady, but you can see the vulnerability in his eyes, the way his hands clench at his sides.
“I thought I was protecting you. From me. From my life. But I see now that I was only protecting myself.”
Your heart aches at his words. Is this really how he feels about everything? Does he really think he’s a threat, a burden for you?
“Hatori, you don’t have to-”
“I do,” he interrupts, his tone firm.
“Because I can’t keep doing this. I can’t keep pretending that I don’t…”
He trails off, taking a deep breath.
“That I don’t feel something for you. Something I’ve been too afraid to admit for a long time.”
Your breath catches in your throat. Is he trying to say that…
“Hatori…”
“I’m in love with you. I have been for longer than I care to admit. But I was so afraid. Afraid of hurting you. Afraid of losing you. Afraid that you couldn’t feel the same way”, he suddenly blurts out.
You stare at him, your heart pounding in your chest. This can’t be real, right? Did he really ignore you because he thought he’d hurt or lose you. Did he really just say that he loves you? Him, the man you’ve kept your eye on for years by now?
“You thought I didn’t feel the same?”
He hesitates, the doubt still etched into his features.
“Why would you? You could have anyone. Someone without all the…baggage I carry.”
Tears prick at the corners of your eyes as you step closer to him. Just the thought of him feeling this way, of him suppressing his feeling because of something like that…
“Hatori, you’re the one I want. You’ve always been the one”, you reply with trembling voice.
For a moment, he simply looks at you, as if he can’t quite believe what he’s hearing. Then, slowly, he reaches out, his hand brushing against yours before taking it in his own.
“You…really mean it?”
“Of course I do!”, you breathe out while clinging onto his hand for what feels like dear life.
“But I didn’t want to rush you, especially after those past weeks. I felt like you don’t see me that way. And after what happened to Kana, I wasn’t sure if you’d give me a chance…”
“I’m sorry for all the pain I caused you. I don’t want to run anymore. I want to be with you, if you’ll have me.”
You smile through your tears, wrapping your arms around his arm the way you always imagined. Even though you’re not able to hug him the way he’d deserve it, you pour your heart and soul in this little moment. That moment you’ve been imagining in your head over and over again. That moment that fell apart in your mind those past weeks.
“I’ve been waiting for you to say that.”
Hatori buries his face in your hair as the weight of his fears finally lifts. For the first time in a long time, he feels like he can breathe. And as you stand there together, he promises to himself that he will do whatever it takes to make you happy, to protect the love you’ve both found.
Because with you, he knows he can finally heal. Now he finally knows you're more than a friend.

:O requests opennn!
I need some switches Yuki and Kyo (Fruits Basket) or I might go feral 😔🤚
It could start off like, Kyo going to kick Yuki but Yuki just catches it and starts scribbling his soles 👀
The rest is up to you ☺️ (ofc you don't have to use my idea if it gets in the way of writing flow)
(Request are closed! This is an older one!)
AHHH YESH! I love me some Fruits Basket! I haven't written for the boys in forever, so this was a treat! I've gotcha covered, anon! :D

CW: swearing, foot tickles
“You son of a-come here!”
Like many of their fights- Yuki had no idea how it started or how they escalated so. Thankfully after a while, he learned Kyo’s pattern.
Catching the ankle thrown his way, his nose crinkled with disgust at the smell of the cat’s foot directly in his face.
“Must your feet always stink?”
“Must you always be so ugly?” Kyo snarled back, hopping on his other foot as he regained his balance. He gave his trapped foot a tug with little success. “Let me go, you damn rat! What, you like feet or something?”
Yuki closed his eyes, praying for patience. And after he just promised Tohru they’d try to get along more. The world had a funny way of taking his words and throwing them back in his face.
Looking at Kyo, then at the foot in his face, a new- hopefully Tohru approved idea came to mind as he smirked.
“Not really, but since you’ve so kindly given this to me..” He reached out, curling his fingers against the sole. “I might as well make the most of it.”
Whatever snark Kyo had to throw at him vanished instantly with a scream- his body all but collapsing into himself. Miraculously, he was still standing- looking like a deformed flamingo as he snickered. “Yohohohou fuhuhuhuhucker! Gehahahahah, geehhehet ohohohoff! Gehehehhet ohohohoff my fohohohohoht! Ahehahhahha!”
“Hmm? Whatcha say? I can’t understand you- try speaking up.” Yuki grinned as he carried on scribbling into the redhead’s foot, watching him slowly crumble to the floor before him. “What’s wrong? Cat got your tongue?”
“Screhehehehhw yohohohou! Aheahhaha-AH!” His body jerked, sending him flat on his back. With nothing to hold him up, he just kinda flopped against the floor mats as his foot was relentlessly tickled. “FUUHUHUCK!” He was gonna die- this was the end of Kyo Sohma, the cursed cat. His feet weren’t even that ticklish- what the hell-
“Heh.” Yuki let out a small snort.
Nevermind. Death was overrated.
Kyo felt his temper spike at that small noise. Putting in all his strength, he yanked his foot harshly towards himself, knocking the rat off balance. With the tickles briefly paused, Kyo took his chance to shoot up and grab his arm, pulling him down beside him. “Gohohotcha, you jeeherk!”
“Sh-” Yuki didn’t get a chance to swear, squeezing his mouth shut the second Kyo’s hand latched onto his lower ribs. He gripped his wrist, eyes squeezed shut and lips twitching as he tried to scoot to safety.
“What’s wrong? Cat got your tongue, rat boy?” Kyo growled down at him, quickly throwing himself across his hips so Yuki couldn’t escape. Moving up to his middle set of ribs finally got the laughs he was looking for. “That’s right- you better laugh for me!”
“Shuuhuhuhush! Geheha-freehhahahaking cahhahat, gehehhet!” Yuki yelped out through his giggles, pulling at Kyo’s hands as they walked up his ribs. “Waahahit, wahahhait hahahang ohoohohn!”
“Wow, you’re pretty ticklish, aren’t you?” Kyo’s delight was mixed with a touch of awe, grinning like a cheshire cat as he tapped along Yuki’s highest ribs. The pale haired boy yelped through his giggles, squeezing his arms tightly against his sides as his breathy laughter increased. “Oo, is this a bad spot? Or is it…”
Kyo dragged it out, ready to burrow his hands into Yuki’s armpits and see just how bad they were. Yuki seemed to realize what was about to happen and reacted accordingly.
“Eh! Ehehehahaha, nohohoh wahahahy! Hohohold ohoohhn!” The redhead yelped hands grabbed his waist, squeezing rapidly and making him retract. “Dahahhahamn it! Gehahahahaha!”
“Theehere..now gehhet ohohohoff!” Yuki huffed through his giggles, sitting up and following Kyo down as he carried on his attack. “Now, if I were to guess where you’d be most ticklish…”
“Dehahahahahahahhahahaha! Gehahahaha-AH! YUHUUHUHKI!” Kyo squawked when fingers dug into his belly, torn between arching away from the floor and curling up. He settled for a sort of flailing gesture. “DOHOHOHON’T NOHOHOHOT THEHEHEHEHRE!”
“Why not? This spot seems to be pretty bad, no?” Now composed, Yuki pulled himself to his knees, scooting after the other’s thrashing form as he carried on tickling. “I think I’m starting to understand why cats don’t like belly rubs.”
“SHUHUUHUHT THE HEHEHELL UHUHUHP! AHEHAHAHHA!” Once again, Kyo found himself on death’s door- knocking away to the tune of that one show Tohru and Momiji liked. He was sure he was gonna survive this time. “DAHHAHAMN RAHHAHAHT! CUHUHUUHT IT OHOHOOUT!”
“Hmm…alright.” Yuki yielded, pulling his hands back as he watched Kyo collapse, gasping for air. He was laughing- Kyo could hear him fighting down the snickers behind his hand. “You look so mad. Like that one cat on the internet.”
“You did not just compare me to Grumpy Cat!” Kyo twisted around to glare, but the look only made Yuki laugh harder. Any immediate annoyance he began to feel faded rather quickly at the sight, leaving Kyo fighting down his own laughs. “I hate you so much right now.”
“Hate you too.” Yuki grinned at him, no malice in his words. A comfortable silence fell between them as Kyo spread out on his side, slowly recovering. In his vision, he found Yuki’s socked foot.
Curious, he reached out and gave the sole a scribble.
“AH!” Yuki squeaked. Squeaked! A proper mouse squeak too! Kyo gaped as he looked at him, watching Yuki’s face burn. “Don’t you dare..”
“Oi, Rat.” Kyo grabbed his ankle, eyes gleaming as Yuki shrank away. “I always dare.”
Thanks for reading!
