i wonder if marie had a similar relationship with her mother to the one she had with erich. maybe she just loved her mother too much and her grief hit her TOO hard, but maybe it's a case of victim becoming abuser too, which wouldn't be a surprise to me ...

she reacted similarly to how erich did when he found out marie died, that's what makes me think of marie possibly being a victim of something similar (a mother who puts her emotional turmoils on her child and constantly uses them as support for whatever reason, in erich's case his mom did it because she felt lost, lonely, and even if she dated many men she was unsatisfied -or maybe they called out some behaviors she had-, so she compensated that space with the one person who couldn't leave: her son)
