10 pounds of chicken and produce loaded into the #HarvestRight #freezedryer to preserve. Asparagus is slowing down. Yellow squash, onions, and sweet peppers. Hopefully, it will be a good winter. It takes a lot of preserving during the season to carry a family through the winter. It's not always easy because preserving must come first. If you wait until the veggies are past their prime, the results are lackluster. And it takes some getting used to, to eat everything possible in season. You have to be able to eat the same thing every day and ditch the mentality of bowing to what you feel like eating. You must eat what you have. You must. #HomesteaderNextDoor #ProvidentLiving #frugalprepping #PrepperLife #garden https://www.instagram.com/p/CCHPXh7jR1Q/?igshid=1g8np1be5qihy

Lasagna and multigrain garlic bread for dinner. We spent all day in the #garden and even filmed a couple of new #VictoryGarden videos to share. I'll be posting them as soon as my belly is full. #HomesteaderNextDoor #frugalprepping #blessedandsharing #GrowWithMe #VictoryGardenChallenge https://www.instagram.com/p/B-VuN43pMsx/?igshid=1xqbqdbh1vg5d

Nothing goes to waste. Cleaned out the fridge and also harvested some veggies. Juiced carrots, kale, cabbage, lemons, apples, celery, and lettuce. Juiced some basil and rosemary in with the greens. Turned out yummy. I'll have juice for the whole week. #frugalprepping #PrepperLife #HomesteaderNextDoor https://www.instagram.com/p/B9OJEOjJqO_/?igshid=1i223giafr6un

Fun with #grafting #fruit trees! According to Wikipedia, "The Grimes Golden apple is a cultivar of apple originated in Wellsburg, Virginia (now West Virginia) in 1832 on the farm of Thomas Grimes." We are attempting to keep some Virginia history alive. These were scion cuttings from a friend. Here in SE VA, (8a) we are on the fringes of successful apple growers. MI leaves us in the dust when it comes to apples. #PrepperLife #PrepperNextDoor #frugalprepping https://www.instagram.com/p/B9KoI6Kpg77/?igshid=vjbj126cuwyr

We make several loaves of #bread at once but they are not all baked the same day. With only 2 in our household, we only need one at a time. We bake one loaf immediately, we freeze 2 loaves unbaked. After the first rise, we punch it down and knead. Separate into 3 equal amounts. Make logs of first 2 and place in gallon zip lock bags. Place these in the freezer immediately. They don't have to be pretty. Allow the other loaf to rise in the pan as usual and bake. When you need another loaf, take a log out of the freezer and place in a greased bread pan in the morning. Allow to rise in the unheated oven for 6-8 hours, gently remove from oven, preheat oven and put back in to bake. Easy. We like to build up a stash of prepped frozen loaves to make life easy. Pop one in to rise before work and bake it at 350 for 25- 30 minutes while you prepare dinner. #frugalprepping #ScratchLife #HomesteaderNextDoor #PrepperLife https://www.instagram.com/p/B9AK2Qxn4_z/?igshid=138ldwxhs0gnq

On the #weekend we fill all the jugs to #water the indoor plants and starts under growlights. It takes 12 gallons for the starts. Using old vinegar jugs, orange juice and milk jugs, we save paying for 624 gallons of water. #FREE! From the sky. Add it up over a lifetime and it makes sense. Free exercise and free water for all the indoor plants. #HomesteaderNextDoor #frugalprepping #FrugalFamily #PrepperLife #PrepperTalk #Green https://www.instagram.com/p/B84gHMIJ8y-/?igshid=1hqncdrerfd8z

Have you tried a #ReRooting #Garden? A tray of pebbles and water provide the nooks for growing garlic, onion, celery, etc. from scraps and small bulbs or cloves--indoors and all winter long. And they look pretty on a table. As the roots get better and the plants grow, they can be moved to other containers, outdoors, or harvested. #frugalprepping #regrowfood #HomesteaderNextDoor https://www.instagram.com/p/B8K1-XFJQQu/?igshid=6lnjdiqk4hhj

#Garlic cloves are bulging and each is pushing up to prepare to separate into a full bulb of new cloves. It is so beautiful. In a couple of weeks, each new bulb cluster will be moved to its own #hydroponic forcing jar. #frugalprepping #PrepperLife #PrepperNextDoor #ProvidentLiving https://www.instagram.com/p/B8J854zJSSW/?igshid=11tminzxywv1m

14 Cheap pizzas freeze dried and packaged for the long haul. Though they can be rehydrated, they are so yummy as crackers. Freeze dried looks almost like fresh. It doesn't shrink lile dehydrating but is light like air. It's shelf stable! #frugalprepping #PrepperLife https://www.instagram.com/p/B5lyx0LpoWJ/?igshid=21ji34jb13q4
