Frozen: Forces of Nature Podcast
Everything we know so far:
So as we all know and have been talking about for the past few days, there's a newly announced podcast called 'Frozen: Forces of Nature'. The podcast will tell a cannon story set after Frozen 2 and before Frozen 3. The podcast is going to be a 12 part series, 15 - 20 minutes each episode and this will be season 1. The story will feature two new characters; Queen Disa of Sankerhus and Wolfgang is the Duke of Weselton's nephew. It is set to release in October ahead of the 10th anniversary of the franchise (and the first movie). The plot goes as follows:
'The series follows Queen Anna, who has a lot on her plate – there are visitors in her Kingdom, a friend in need, and even the Duke of Weselton’s nephew skulking around – so when the Spirits of Nature start acting up, she knows she has to solve the problem – and fast – before things get more out of control. But when Anna and Elsa travel to the Enchanted Forest, they find mysterious copper machines that are disrupting the natural order of things. Who made these machines and what are they doing in the forest? And more importantly, how do Anna and Elsa stop them?'
In other official sources, they've given a little more detail about the events going on:
'Queen Anna has a lot on her plate. She has welcomed Disa, the Queen of the small neighboring nation and her people to Arendelle when their kingdom is flooded. Disa is eager to learn about the scientific nature of magic.
Also in Arendelle is Lord Wolfgang, the Duke of Weselton’s nephew, on an apology tour for his uncle’s behavior. He very much wants to secure Queen Anna’s forgiveness and hopes to convince the people of Arendelle of the merits of trade with Weselton.
When a mysterious fire happens at the castle and the Spirits of Nature start acting up Elsa, Anna, and Disa travel to the Enchanted Forest to uncover the cause, where they discover mysterious steam-powered copper machines: automatons.
Where do the automatons come from and what are they doing? Who is directing them? Most importantly, how do Elsa, Anna, and Disa stop them from upsetting the natural balance of the Enchanted Forest and Arendelle?'
So let's point out the key things here and other information in other official sources too:
- Anna is feeling the pressure of being Queen so far, which for me is no surprise given she wasn't prepared to be Queen so soon.
- The Duke of Weselton's nephew, Wolfgang is visiting Arendelle to apologize to Elsa and Anna on behalf of his uncle for the things he did in Frozen and restore the trading relationship of Weselton with Arendelle
- Queen Disa's Kingdom, Sankerhus, is flooded (most likely due to chaos in the forest) and hence she and her people temporarily move to Arendelle
- Sankerhus is one of the neighbouring Kingdoms of Arendelle, like the Southern Isles
- Queen Disa is intrigued by the "scientific nature of magic"
- A mysterious fire occurs in Arendelle castle which causes the spirits to go wild causing Elsa, Anna and Disa to travel to the Enchanted Forest where they discover steam - powered, copper machines called automatons
- The person who created these machines will most likely be revealed in the podcast
Some of you may be wondering why a podcast? Why not an official novel/ book? Why not a short? I was wondering the same thing when this was first announced. I had mixed feelings on this too. But the more I read posts and the more I thought about it the more I started seeing why the story was chosen to be in this format. I think with books and movies it's typical that that's how stories would be told to us. But I think Disney is trying a new way of telling stories without animation involved with audio steaming as a first of its franchises. It is said that it's also for parents to help kids reduce screen time and I also so that they save money for future animation projects especially for Frozen 3, which is a sensible thing to do honestly speaking. Perhaps they didn't make it a Short because the story was more detailed than just a simple one like Frozen Fever and Olaf's Frozen Adventure and the story would not fit in a short but a long enough to be a movie.
But you still might be unsure about the story of the podcast being with the whole nature Vs machine thing. But to be fair we don't know much about these machines or what their purpose is so we can't really say anything about it yet. All we know is that they are "steam powered, copper machines" and when I searched them up on Google I found images like these:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They sound (by the name of it) and look very appropriate for the time period Frozen is set in. But let's not panic if you're still unsure with the machines taking the focus. Frozen is about magic - in each and every movie, long or short, they've explored some kind of magic. So it's given they're not gonna go all out with this science Vs magic theme. The characters and their intentions in the story are the focus of the story. When the sisters find out about these machines they will stop them because it disturbs the enchanted forest. That's the point - to get rid of these machines. Obviously what this person is doing is wrong and has to stop and that's what the sisters will be doing in the first season of the podcast. Besides the podcast cast multiple seasons so this will be the plot for season 1 only.
And no this isn't going to be the plot of Frozen 3 or anything similar because why would they make it the plot of the podcast and not of Frozen 3? Frozen 3 will be entirely different from this podcast. We still have a couple more years til Frozen 3 is out with a rough estimate. They might drop some Frozen 3 plot hints in these podcasts and some of the characters might make an appearance in the upcoming movie but the plot will be different. but highly doubt they would make Frozen all industrial machinery. If the person behind these machines has a good intention they might use their machinery to help advance Arendelle just a little more (I'm guessing). But they won't play a role in it. Frozen is about the characters - some of which have magic! Elsa and Anna have no links to machinery or anything so let's not jump to conclusions and judge the story without, let alone listening to it, but it even being out yet.
I don't think the podcast will be crucial to the story in Frozen 3 so if some of you don't want to watch it by all means don't but Frozen 3 is something different altogether. I think they're just trying to expand the franchise and keep the fandom alive and talking and theorising in the run up to the movie because it's fine Frozen fandom would die done because Frozen 2 was originally going to be the last movie of the movie series, but now that's it not they want to make sure we're all back in the game again.
We only have theories of our own. Nothing is confirmed regarding Frozen 3 other than the fact that the main Original cast will be returning (voices of Elsa, Ann, Olaf and Kristoff (plus Sven!)) and that it will be run with a new director instead of Jennifer Lee. Who else will be returning or will be joining new, we have to wait and see.
New changes to something old we love is hard but we have to give it a try in order to see if the change was good or not.
But in conclusion to this post, that's all we know so far about the podcast. Hope some of you found this useful if you didn't know something about the podcast.

The Frozen Podcast Forces of Nature having "Copper Machines" Running around and starting to get into industrial era territory is reminding me a lot of Breath of The Wild with it having robot like machines and technology being added into the fantasy setting of Hyrule.

I love your cough! And totally have the exact same feeling! I hope you get more of those coughs lol!
Hi 🍁 so you've listened the complete Forces of Nature series? I'm surprised that you said it's the worst installment into the franchise. It's because Snow Sisters and Kristanna were in the background or the solution of the story was unsatisfying? The theme of trust and Otherness of Arendelle sounded interesting. And how do you think, what of these elements/motifs can be transported in F3? I don't mind conspiracies :}
Yes - I have access to it for a short time on Wonderly+, where it was released early before October 11th.
Ok, I have to admit, saying it's the worst installment was probably overexaggerated on my part. It is fun for what it is, and I'm sure many fans of all ages will find things to love about it. And as I said, everyone should give the podcast a chance regardless of my own opinions.
However, I think I was just taken aback by how much Disa and Wolfgang were forced into the narrative when we have plenty of established characters (Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, Olaf, Mattias, Ryder, Honeymaren, and Yelena) that could've had an opportunity to have some fun side content here that was instead given to these two new characters. I get it - they don't want to add new things or lore to the characters because it's a bit restrictive. However, you can easily take what is already established and build a nice, satisfying side story. Forest of Shadows was able to get away with adding depth to Anna and Elsa that didn't interfere with their developments in Frozen or F2. Why can't we do this here?
Example - why couldn't Ryder have Wolfgang's role instead? Imagine Ryder trying to explore and understand Arendelle, building a relationship with Kristoff and Mattias, while having solo episodes writing to Yelena about his experiences. Or, imagine Honeymaren grows an interest in Automatons, but then she and Elsa clash a bit about experimenting too much with them (adding depth to their relationship). Or how about Anna encountering other royals who feel strongly about Arendelle's magical allegiances, leading to Anna having to build the confidence to stand by her sister and the Northuldra. More about Kristoff learning to be a leader. Or maybe Olaf actually being the character to write an opera over Wolfgang. There is so much content you could explore with the characters we already have that introducing new ones just seems like a huge waste.
And how do you think, what of these elements/motifs can be transported in F3? I don't mind conspiracies :}
Well, either the elements introduced were just unique to Forces of Nature and the writers just didn't flesh them out well, or it's possible that they are not explored in depth because they are hints to what we could expect in F3.
Anna faces people who question Arendelle's allegiance to magic, testing her confidence as Queen and the strength of her relationship with Elsa and the Northuldra. Elsa grows a fear of trusting new people, as the fear of magic can cause a lot of damage (both Elsa and the Nprthuldra know this too well). Kristoff learns the skills necessary to become a leader himself since he is one day going to rule beside Anna. Trust seems to be a big deal in this podcast, and these elements (whether it is the trust of oneself or others) and if it continues into F3, then we're basically looking at -
F1 - Fear vs. Love
F2 - Fear vs. Change
F3 - Fear vs. Trust
But again, it's just a crazy theory. Cough cough cough also, trust being a thing can lead to Hans showing up again as an anti-hero or villain that the heroes either need to learn to trust or he takes advantage of the trust of others cough cough cough. Wow. What a crazy cough. I need to get that checked out.

This is exactly my feelings. Although I didn't like them separating again after having so many years apart with only 3 years together just, if this separation causes some angst or tension between the sisters, I'm kinda in for it. I don't know what the conclusion would be but them talking about it at least is something.
Frozen 2 was a good movie. I totally understand Elsa being the fifth spirit and Anna being the Queen. Elsa was always in this role, she's born into it literally because that's what her powers are of. Just like the elemtal spirits have elemental magic, the fifth elemental spirit has ice and snow elemtal magic. And Anna's whole character and courage and strength especially when breaking the damn after losing everything makes her worthy of the crown. But though the roles are different, thar shouldn't mean living separately. I mean after their grandfather caused a rift between the two nations, why not unite them somehow with Northulra becoming a part of Arendelle. Don't ask me how that will work cuz I don't know. But Anna has already begun doing that with using the forests hexagon symbols on her Queen attires. So all I'm saying is it's possible.
But let's see where Frozen 3 takes things. I'm hoping for something to change because why make a third movie if nothing was to change?
The Frozen franchise treats that Anna and Elsa are living in different places from the end of "Frozen 2" as something unimportant, is it a hit or a miss?
Tumblr media
I will consider it a mistake if this theme is not important in "Frozen 3".
Elsa starting to live in the Enchanted Forest (Ahtohallan is her spiritual retreat/private library) and Anna staying in Attendelle was why I initially hated "Frozen 2" before I even watched the movie, I even got an earful from a girl maybe half of my age. But it was enough to watch the movie to understand why (although it still frustrates me that there was little development of these reasons, and one of the best scenes of Anna in relation to Arendelle was only in a book being replaced in the film by a moment of romance/comedy).
Anna and Elsa see each other frequently, and we have Gale acting as a medieval WhatsApp for the sisters. In fact, maybe they talk more today through Gale than after “Frozen 1”.
And “Polar Nights” which is the only really relevant post-F2 material is more concerned with criticizing people who say: “Elsa doesn't need romance because she's an independent woman” and “Anna is not fit to be queen, make Elsa queen again", than to address this topic. And as in the previous paragraph, it only reinforces that the sisters remain very close.
I'm not saying I want them to talk about how damaging the sisters' second separation was, they're pretty mature adult women. But I wanted this matter to be something other than... Nothing, as it currently is.
And especially for me that could be a really interesting theme for "Frozen 3": Anna and Elsa living in different places and bonding with different people, creating their own families, and feeling like they've drifted apart. For me this would be a much more interesting drama between them than the F2 drama, for example.
So as I said in the first sentence of the post, as well as the current small approach with the Northuldras (which until today the approach has been reduced to phrases and sporadic ElsaMaren moments in a cell phone game, and in the future a conversation about mythology) that it is possible to understand with the thought that they are saving the tribe for “Frozen 3”, you can also understand the absence of this theme if it is addressed in the third film where I imagine there will be the classic time skip of 3 years after the prologue with KristAnna's wedding.
But I understand those who don't want this topic to be addressed, but for me it's an interesting topic to bring new lessons about family and would give some real importance to this theme that has caused so much discussion in the fandom in recent years.

Frozen Podcast is non canon
Jennifer Lee in an interview has said that she doesn't consider the podcast or anything outside the movies (and the three shorts I believe) to be canon. I got this info actually from a twitter user but I could quote pin down where they got the article from. But Jennifer has addressed this a few times before of what's canon to her and not.
Here's the bit from an article:
Tumblr media
Though she isn't directing Frozen 3, she knows what the main general story is and if it were in the podcast I'm sure it would be promoted more, the original voice actors would voice their respective characters and she would have said so.
In a way I'm honestly kind of glad they're non canon because nothing major has happened (so far) and though it's interesting here and there, it's not quite entertaining to listen to as the movies/ shorts were watching. So all those worried about the mechanical technical elemental or about Wolfgang or Disa coming into the franchise, your worries are over. I think it was just to explore the podcast side of franchises and how they would work. Disa is interesting but also annoying, being third wheeling the sisters. I don't mind Wolfgang too much but still. There are some great moments between the sisters in the podcast which I'll address soon in an overall review after all episodes are out but I hope we get much more empowering ones, even an emotional duet between the two in the next movie.
But technically you can consider them canon if you want. Consider it an audience's optional canon event if you must. It's just that the podcast doesn't have any kind of major hints to Frozen 3. But if you're reading the books or comics, they won't have a major influence on the movies of the franchise, or at least the events in those short stories won't be addressed in the movies.
Despite whether it's canon or not, if you want to see all my Frozen: Forces of Nature Podcast episode reviews just go to this post which links each individual brief as I try analysis for the episode.

Frozen "Forces of nature" was disappointing. For lack of better words.
The main idea could have worked a lot better if the story actually focused on the Frozen characters for two seconds. The story is about two OC who end up being somewhat entertaining, but not interesting in the least.
I think the cast did a good job for the enormous shoes they had to fit into. So no real complaints on that part.
The parrots were the most annoying thing ever.
I'd give the podcast a 5/10. Not worth listening unless you're curious.
-
That said, I still think the idea of a Frozen podcast is really interesting and entertaining. Better story, original voice cast and new songs and you have a perfect combo.

I've just seen frozen forces of nature arts and queen Disa is so pretty! She looks like a young Halle Berry. I'm in love. ❤

(I think that's all of them so far).
I think Queen Disa's design is very cute and well made, and it helps make her unique amongst the sisters. It is a little on the nose though. Like, of course her skirt has gear-looking designs haha. Now I'm waiting for some official images of Wolfgang.
