I just realized that in the psychic au, Dark Shadow is a spirit that is tethered to Tokoyami ('haunts' is such a strong word).

on their first day of high school, Shinsou couldn't stop staring at him (because… hello???) and after class Tokoyami walked up to him, looked him dead in the eye, and said 'you can see him too, can't you?'

what makes this somehow funnier is I don't think Tokoyami is a psychic. he can see Dark Shadow, because Dark Shadow is tethered to him, but he can't see other spirits. Dark Shadow claims it's his job to protect him from other supernatural threats (Shinsou: what kind of threats? Dark Shadow: threatening threats), but this also means that Tokoyami has just accepted that for his entire life he's been haunted, sorry, protected by some kind of benevolent bird demon no one else can see and who he's never seen anyone or anything like.

(I now desperately need Tokoyami & Shirakumo to meet so Shirakumo can be like 'WHAT THE HELL IS THAT' and Hizashi just says 'a high schooler… don't be rude :/' while Dark Shadow smiles at him as much as a shadow being with a beak can smile and Tokoyami sits there with a perfectly neutral expression)

love my roommate and I know we can live together just fine bc we’ve done it before. however we did not have air conditioning back then, and now we do. and I have learned that her ideal temperature for a room is between 55 and 65F. I used to keep the thermostat at 75F. we are engaged now in a little cold war (so to speak) over thermostat preferences and you better hope mine prevail before I freeze out here

God I love when a food gamble turns out well. I got a bowl of instant pho from the Asian store and expected it to be just ok and it was amazing. Comparable to pho I've had in actual Vietnamese restaurants. It smelled really strongly of anise which has kind of a licorice taste so I was worried it would be pure licorice flavor but it was really balanced. And the broth was kind of thick like good quality ramen broth, I read the ingredients which said it had collagen in it and was like "ok sure it does it's probably a microscopic amount" but you could feel the broth had substance and wasn't just water and spices.

everything i needed in the grocery store was on sale. 🥲 well not everything. but like 8 things. and that's a lot of things. and gas was 50¢ cheaper per gallon in the city. and i went to i think the only asian market in the city i hadn't been to yet. and me and my cousin finally had an argument we'd been putting off for 9 months, which was stupid because we're literally so good at arguing with each other. and i made plans with my cousins for my birthday and for the beach, later. maybe it'll all be okay fr.

I'm so excited, I'll be in the US for two weeks this fall! Two days for bank stuff, then a day for Pike Place Market, a day for the Science Center, and a day for Woodland Park Zoo, and the rest for resting and relatives.

I'm going to try to get a ride to go hiking in the Olympics too.

The main difficulty will be that the baby will be younger than one, so I don't want to overdo it and cause him to have a meltdown (huge concern given the huge jetlag issue), and husband speaks almost no English and it will be a huge culture shock for him.

It's going to be an exhausting two weeks.

On the plus side I'll be able to buy clothes that actually fit me, and shoes too!

Foolish of me to think I could do my weekly shop without getting distracted only to walk right into the Halloween aisle without noticing

Idk if I'm living in an alternate universe or what but I swear the refrain of "buying processed foods is more expensive for less work but buying ingredients is cheaper for a whole lot more food" has literally never been true. Like idk what the deal is at your guys' grocery stores but buying ingredients has always been pretty much the same price as buying pre-made foods, even before the massive price hikes and inflation in the past few years. When I make homecooked meals, the price at the register for all my ingredients is always like $20-30 (sometimes more depending on if I'm buying stuff like a filet or expensive fish but those are special occasions so they don't rly count). Buying an equivalent amount of premade food would cost roughly the same.

Like maybe it is true if you're specifically calculating the cheapest ingredients for the most nutritional value and total volume, but just cooking normal recipes like soup and beef stroganoff and tacos and fried rice for me, the price is by no means low. I'm lucky in that I don't have to worry about how much my food costs but if I did I don't think cooking at home would really save me any money unless all I ate was like, beans and pasta.
