1. On Saturdays, I like to… Depends what mood I’m in or how I’m feeling. If I’m in a tired, ’cba with anything’ mood I can easily lounge in my jammies at home watching telly and playing sims. 11. If your house were burning down, what would you take and why? obviously first thing id do would be check my family and pets were safe. Then id grab my laptop, the teddy I’ve had since I was born and try to get the two boxes from under my bed that I keep my memories in.

IF I every do get married, I would like a winter/christmas wedding cause Christmas is my favourite time of year and winter weather is a bit more predictable. OR, when I was 17 I got certified as a Zumba instructor. even though I ended up having to give up Zumba, thats probably the thing I’m the most proud of in my life so far. As someone who suffers anxiety/panic attacks it was a massive achievement to travel to blackpool, go dance at Winter Gardens ballroom ON MY OWN in a room full of strangers for 6 hours, and come out with a certificate.

28. If you were blind for the rest of your life… what would you miss seeing the most? Everything. It would be awful. Id probably miss seeing my dogs faces the most

30. What is your most disappointing moment in life? the whole college experience. dropping two of my a levels, failing the other two. Then dropping out of college course. And again, dropping out of another college course. Not a great 3 years for me.

Okay, so I whine a lot on here - But it’s a new year and obviously I feel compelled to write something about this. I feel like it’ll be good for me (and a fresh take on my writings) if I write out all the good things that happened during 2017! So here goes. Bullet by bullet happy Sam for once!! Firstly, I’m healthier than Ive been in years! I’ve stopped smoking (except while drunk but who doesn’t amirite?) I’ve lost five stone and two belt sizes, which is great! My self esteem is a lot higher than it’s been in a long time and I’m genuinely pleased with the progress I’ve made, I fell off the wagon a little bit over Christmas but who the hell doesn’t right? I’ll allow myself this one I think!

Secondly, University - I actually have a goal in life now! I’ve made amazing friends, I’m studying an amazing subject and I’m loving learning again, which is a new thing for me! I’ve never enjoyed education before, but it’s a refreshing new direction for me, and I can’t wait to get back into it in the new year!

Thirdly, things with my friends, although started off very shaky this last year - have become much clearer, and I feel I’m closer to a lot of them than I was ever before because we finally got to sit down and discuss our issues, some time apart for the first time in 10 years was a very, very welcome break and I feel a lot better because of it!

Fourthly, this mystery woman I keep talking about? Well here I go again - New Years Eve was the best entrance to the year, we cleared the air, had a few to drink and without going into too much detail, had a little fun... But that’s not for this post to talk about! I’ve got it out of my system, and she feels the same, we had our fun, experienced what we both wanted too without being too serious and for the first time in five years, I genuinely feel I can love, and be loved again. I can’t begin to express how meaningful this is to me (without being too sappy) but it means the world that I can do that again without feeling awful or guilty afterwards. Here’s to whatever future happens there I guess!

And finally, the thing I always come back to on this blog, my mental health. Having scrolled through a few of the posts I’ve made over the last year, mainly from before the summer I realize what a dark place I was in, I was suicidal I think. Or at least very close too. But ever since the things listed above have taken a real effect on me, my bad days are so few, and so far between now. I can count on my hands how many I’ve had since I started university, frankly, I feel like I’m glowing. A lot of my old self is coming back and I can’t lie, I’m terrified of some of the things that that entails, but at the same time, feeling genuine happiness, genuine sadness, and a whole host of other things is such a welcome change that I will face these fears with everything I can manage, I WILL get better and I now feel I have the energy to fight this back again. I WILL win this. I have faith in myself now! Well that’s it, I feel like writing this has put me in a good mood, and I feel like I could tear down mountains at the moment. I feel more... me, I guess, than I have done in a long time. 2017 was a pile of shit for sure, but there are always a few good things to come out of the worst times. Here’s to 2018, and every challenge it’ll bring me, and every opportunity to become a better man with it. Thank you, once again, blank internet space.
