Hot Zone, Pt. 6
If the final conversation before Sheppard detonates the nuke is between him and McKay, it's also McKay's reaction that we get to first hearing Sheppard's voice after the explosion. Sure, these are all sandwiched between conversations or reaction shots of Weir so if you're not paying attention, it's easy to come to the conclusion that there's a special bond or understanding between them, that they care about each other more than co-workers.
But, and I emphasize, thus far on the show it has always been McKay's reaction we get to intense Sheppard moments. While Weir does the asking of whether Sheppard is alright, it is McKay's relief to his survival that we get to share.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
If it happened now and again, it might be co-incidence. But every time?
And again we are reminded that for Sheppard, Atlantis is home. His first words upon surviving the blast are: "This is Sheppard. I've cleared the blast -- I'm returning home." I'll remind you of McKay's words at the beginning of the episode: "I don't often get a chance to say this, so savour it: good work, boys and girls! Let's go home." It's been a long, hard day but both Sheppard and McKay have been on their way to the same place all along.
Tumblr media
McKay's face, here, when Ford hugs him tells us everything we need to know when it comes to how he feels about Atlantis and the people therein. The thing is, however much Rodney and Sheppard may care about one another, however often they may come to rescue one another in the future, they both care about everyone else there too. They are heroic in the truest sense of the word.
Then there's the rather interesting conversation Weir and Sheppard have at the end of the episode, the coda.
Tumblr media
We find Sheppard in Weir's office, lost in thought. In fact, he's waiting for her there, seeming kind of like a school boy at the principal's office. This is not a conversation he wants to have, things are tense between them. Sheppard tries to get out of it using his charm, stands up and tells her he's going to bed. She's not having it, wants them to talk it out right now.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The discussion they have is very interesting.
Weir: We need to discuss what happened earlier. Sheppard: Now? Weir: That can never happen again. Sheppard: Look, I'm sorry about... Weir: I understand your expertise in military matters and I agree that I should defer to those expertise in such situations. Sheppard: Thank you! Weir: But you are not the one who decides what is and what is not a military situation. Now, both General O'Neill and Colonel Sumner warned me that you don't respect the proper chain of command.
Now, later on we learn that Sheppard was court-martialed for disobeying orders not to cross enemy lines to save a field medic serving under him. From the parallel universe of Vegas (S05E19), we learn that they had been involved. The gender of the field medic isn't really relevant here, because Weir is implying that she knows that he is willing to disobey orders to save people he cares about and since she's seen him bend the rules for Teyla, she has to think that he would do this regardless of gender. While a noble sentiment, that can become a problem if it comes at the cost of sacrificing other lives, or even the whole mission. And she's seen now that no matter how much she believes or has good faith in him, no matter how much she might consider him a friend, he is willing to do anything for the people he loves. To kill enemies, yes. Definitely, she's seen this with her own eyes. But even civilians. Even to jeopardize the lives of everyone in the city. To save one person.
General O'Neill and Colonel Sumner both knew the details of his court martial. We don't know whether he was not yet married, married, or divorced at the time but in high likelihood, both of them thought that Sheppard was a gay man regardless -- those kinds of documents aren't really made for nuance. O'Neill had some personal experience of combating inappropriate feelings toward someone serving directly under him, but he managed to conquer them -- for the most part. But the whole reason why DADT was a thing in the first place was that before it was in effect, gay men were considered a liability due to the inherent secrecy that was required for them to serve. This demand for secrecy compromised them, made them targets for extortion, manipulation, blackmail, being influenced by the enemy. This made them inherently suspicious. And even though DADT had originally been intended to make it easier for gay men to serve, it wasn't just an invitation for dishonesty, it was a requisite. And therefore if you were anything other than heterosexual in the military, you couldn't be trusted.
This is what O'Neill and Sumner had been trying to tell her. That no matter how noble his intentions, Sheppard's loyalties were suspect. That he couldn't be trusted, not in the way a fellow soldier should be able to trust another. He couldn't be counted on to make impartial calls. Whether or not he had thought he was doing the right thing, he had still demonstrated that he did not respect the proper chain of command, not when it went against his personal moral code.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sheppard seems to understand that she's referring to this. What else could she possibly be talking about? He's understandably defensive:
Sheppard: Well, sometimes I see a situation a little different than they do--
He sees things a little different than General O'Neill and Colonel Sumner. He sees things a little different than your average G.I. Joe. He's a little different. He has a different perspective. His outlook is different. He's a little... you know. He's "kinda... never mind", like General O'Neill would put it. You've got to excuse him because he is in something of a bind, here.
But Weir knew that already. That was never a problem for her. She's a civilian, she's seen all manner of things as a diplomat. But she assumed that since she was willing to turn a blind eye here and there, that Sheppard would repay this with loyalty. Clearly, Sheppard didn't trust her. Didn't trust her to keep his secret or to side with him if push ever came to shove against his superiors. Sheppard had been looking for Weir's protection from Colonel Sumner from the get-go but it seemed clear to her now that he was not willing to respect her by being truthful. And where did that leave them?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Weir: No. Listen to me, John. Now, you endangered yourself and the lives of many others. Sheppard: Because I thought it was the best course of action to take -- and, by the way, I saved your ass. Weir: I know you did -- but you have to trust me. Sheppard: I do! Weir: Do you?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Her problem was never that he cared about members of his team. She cared about them too. Her problem was not that he cared about Rodney McKay in a special way. She cared about Rodney too, although not in the same way. If they could find a modicum of happiness in each other, who was she to get in the way of that? But if she couldn't trust him to do the right thing, make the right choices, then how can they work together? That is what this conversation was about. She's not asking. He's obviously not telling. But she still needs to know. She needs to know that she can trust him.
She needs to know that he can trust them. Because she is starting to realize that together, they can talk her into anything.
They don't get to finish the discussion, as Rodney and Beckett barge into her office. They bring with them a new mystery, leaving this unresolved issue lingering between Sheppard and Weir.
Tumblr media
Finally, I want to draw attention to the fact that during their conversation, Sheppard had his whole body turned away from her. He was feeling obviously defensive and hence used his body to build a barrier (Rodney is also projecting defensiveness here with his crossed arms but it seems to have more to do with what they had just discovered about the potential new enemy). When McKay enters, Sheppard can't help but turn his entire body toward him. He pulls his hand to his thigh. He does not need or want there to be anything between them.
They exchange deep, meaningful glances that seem to communicate things beyond words. They have been getting so close that something has to give. If in the previous episode it was McKay who was reminded of why he was impossible to love, it is Sheppard''s turn here to be reminded that his love is lethal.

Hudson and Rex S05E19 - The Cook, The Chief, The Cop, and His Lover - Part C
Tumblr media
This reminds me of a Castle episode where they had like four different pizzerias with almost identical names on the same block.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
There's a lesson there, Charlie. Take care of Sarah or she might end up with Jesse. (Just kidding, Charlie and Sarah are both 100% workaholics so that can't tear them apart.)
Tumblr media
No, that's his partner.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Which would mean that you two are screwed.
Chewfoundland! There is no way!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jesse, you little shit, you already know.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You're not the only one with a secret relationship, Charlie. And their excuse is only a bit more reasonable.
Tumblr media
lol what is that dog on the left? Charlie didn't get that.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I still think he could be persuaded.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Small kisses on his shoulder! Well, over the clothes because, family friendly.
Tumblr media
More small kisses.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
What could you possibly have to worry about if you tell some close friends?
Tumblr media
That is... a sentence.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Some cases can be solved just by having Rex in the same room with the culprit.
To be continued in Part D.

nurse carrie donovan from s05e19 Hanky Panky calling out BJ for being attracted to her, not just because she's 'beautiful and warm' but also because she's 'so vulnerable' is the only proper dressing-down the BJ character ever got. the only critique of the man he is in general rather than a slap on the wrist for an outburst that's framed as being uncharacteristic of him and that can't really be forgiven with an apology because it's a flaw that needs to be worked on over time and imo, something that needs to be unlearned.
i mean, the show forgot that this happened, and maybe he does work on it because he's later attracted to aggie who is confident and outgoing, but i don't think it's intentional.
carrie is a little goofy herself, she seems to not understand why BJ would be upset about having cheated on his wife and is very quick to volunteer that they be friends, who are 'closer than most' but she never appeared again so whatever.
and i guess i also have to say 'so whatever' to any notion that the show was considering giving BJ some kind of hero complex in Korea, rather than just his provider thing which seems to only apply to Peg. which is a shame because that would've been an interesting contrast to Hawkeye's rejection of hero status.

the one where finan can't flirt // modern!finan x reader
Summary: your shifts at the local pub are never boring when the Rumcofa squad is around.
Pairing: finan x reader
Type: drabble
Warnings: extremely awful pick-up lines, mentions of alcoholic beverages
Word count: 1.002
Insp.: The One Where Ross Can’t Flirt (Friends – S05E19)
A/N: This is my entry to @emilyhufflepufftlk 300 challenge. May there come many, many more milestones, Ems. You’re amazing and deserve all the recognition!
Oh, and thanks for getting me hooked on Friends again. Turns out, I just needed a little bit of incentive to start watching it all over!
Gentle reminder that English is not my first language, and this was not proofread.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The sound of their laughter above the crowd noise made the hair on the back of your neck bristle. After years of working at one of the one of two pubs in Rumcofa, you knew what that meant – they were all wasted, and ready to have a good laugh, at your cost, no less.
From your position behind the bar, you watch as they make their way to a table by the back. The two youngest, that you recognized as a very tipsy Cynlaef and an equally wasted Aethelstan, led the way, the former with a plastic crown on his head, barely hanging in place, as his friend ha his arms loose around his shoulder. The duo was closely followed by Uhtred, an obvious look of concern on his face, even from a distance, as he watched the younger boys; and then Osferth and Sigtryggr.
The last two members of the squad enter the pub, one of them patting the other on the shoulder and pointing in your direction. Separating from their troupe at the door, Sihtric and Finan make their way to the bar, sitting on the stools right in front of the beer tap you’re currently working at.  You’ve been through this drill before. You know exactly what’s going to happen next.
“Seven pints of beer, please”, Sihtric asks, knocking on the wooden bar twice. You’re able to hear a ruckus from the back booth, where the others have settled. The howls from Cynlaef very distinctive from the others.
“I see Cynlaef is enjoying his bachelor party”, you remark, filling the glasses “How’s the celebration going?”.
“It would’ve been much better if you had joined us”, Finan answers promptly. In your head, you were already counting the seconds until he’d start his attempts at flirting with you.
Overall, based on your line of work, you wouldn’t mind a bit of flirting. It actually helped with the tips. It happened almost nightly, the huge wedding ring on your finger not a hindrance, apparently. However, Finan was really bad at it, and not even his sexy irish accent could save him. So bad he could make even the most nefarious sailor cringe with embarrassment.
Leaning on the bar, Sihtric observes your interaction with his bearded friend, a smile already playing on his lips.
“So, how’s your night going?”, he asks, picking up one of the glasses you put in front of them.
“Well, I’m kinda bummed out I didn’t get to go out with my friends tonight, but my night’s been alright, lots of tips”, you answer him, pointing to the nearly full jar at the corner.
“It sucks that you’re having a bad night, huh. Meet me, and I will make sure it ends very good”, Finan says quickly, winking at you.
“Dude, that was really bad, even for you”.
“He has set very low standards”, Sihtric agrees with you.
“You should be helping me out, brother”, the Irishman turns to his friend, disbelief clear in his voice.
“Of course, I’m helping you. I’m writing everything down so I can publish it later”, he immediately replies. “The book will be titled ‘How to Not Get the Girl’”.
Finan refrains from answering, but the discontented look on his face makes it clear he didn’t find the joke funny.
The clatter of chairs falling above the crowd noise catches your attention. Turning in the direction of the noise, you see that Cynlaef had fallen off his stool, the crown he was wearing lost somewhere under the booths. Aethelstan was not much better, his face red as he points to his friend on the floor, clearly having fun at the cost of his friend’s misfortune. The one who didn’t seem to be having a good time was Uhtred, who was chastising the younger boys. In the meantime, you notice Sigtryggr walking away from the group, clearly trying to escape the embarrassment.
“You should go help your friends”, you suggest to the two men sitting in front of you, even though you had their order ready to go for a while now.
“Nah, they’re just fine without us”, Sihtric dismisses your suggestion with a hand gesture.
“Actually, I’m the one who needs help”, Finan starts “I’m a bit out of breath. Can you call the doctor? Tell him I lose my breath every time I look at you. Better call for a cardiologist too, because my heart somersaults every time you are near me!”.
“Oh, come on, that was a good one! Even you have to agree”, Sihtric exclaims facing you.  “It’s going in the book for sure, man!”.
Not to encourage him, you just roll your eyes, even though deep down you did agree. Instead, you just turn your attention to Osferth, who was hesitantly approaching the bar.
“Hi, can I please have one glass of whiskey? Neat. I think Uhtred is going to need it”, he asks, tilting his head in the direction of the man.
“Bold of you to show up here so soon after last time, Osferth”, you mention, preparing the drink he had ordered.
“It wasn’t my fault, ma’am, I swear! Those girls just went crazy for no reason”, he exasperates, the fear clear in his eyes.
“For a member of the cleric, you sure have caused a lot of confusion amongst the ladies around here, huh”, you observe, but before the man can defend his honour, Finan intrudes on the conversation.
“You know, unlike our baby monk here, I was never the most religious guy out there. But I was very impressed with God when I met you, he really made a masterpiece this time”.
This time you feel your face heat up at the commentary. He was really out-doing himself this time.
“How did you manage to get married being this bad flirt”, Osferth questions the Irishman incredulously.
“You gotta know what they like”, Finan laughs, and then turns to you. “See you tomorrow at the wedding, mo ghrá?”.
“I won’t be the one in white this time!”.

Season 6 of stargate feels weird. I'm on episode 21. I've really enjoyed the plotlines, they're some of the most interesting and creative so far, but it's the small stuff that's starting to bother me.
It was first in the intro when Richard Dean Anderson gets twice as much time as anyone else (~11s vs 5-6s for Tapping, Judge, and Nemec, plus a single shot for Davis), and so many of these plots center around him in almost an unnatural way. He feels like the main character much more than previously, but without Daniel to keep him grounded his arrogance is starting to get annoying. I enjoyed his writing in season 5, they wrote him a lot of jokes and I laughed at a lot of them, but here he just comes off as brash.
Now I actually enjoy Daniel's "death" and how he'll come back now and again and comfort his friends (E6, "Abyss" & E19, "The Changeling"). I like Jonas too! I wholeheartedly enjoy what they're doing with this. But Daniel was always the one to keep Jack in check. (Thinking specifically about Reese in S05E19 "Menace.") Now without Daniel's strong opposing voice, it feels like no one stands up to Jack when he says something wildly undiplomatic, and I don't like his dumb ass being left out alone like that. They kept each other in check and I believe their banter was a large part of what made the show so good.
Then there's these romance subplots. It seems like every other episode Jonas and Carter are falling in love with some random alien, but its been multiple times this season! Not to mention that oh-so-forced creepy scientist guy in this season's premiere episodes. Previously it was just that Tok'ra dude and a bit of O'Neill, now it's everyone? Why is this happening? It feels so out of place.
Even if the directorial staff hasn't seemed to have changed, and RDA has been an executive producer for several seasons now, (so his larger part likely isn't directly because of him) things are clearly changing, and I'm unsure if I like them all the way.
I'm really enjoying these plotlines, but theres a lot now that's feeling just... too convienent. I can't really give a good example but a lot of things don't feel as natural anymore. My suspension of disbelief isn't being sufficiently upheld like it has been in past seasons. For example, I just watched a scene where O'Neill, Carter, and Teal'c all stand in a perfect line in front of Jonas (whose much more animated and natural, might I add) and talk at him. Nothing about this line feels natural and their dialog feels... weird.
But such is television - sometimes real world bureaucracy and internal politics have more of an effect on a show's content than the actual crew.
Anyways. Let Dom DeLuise back on the show and have him meet John de Lancie, either as Q or Col. Simmons idc either way thanks bye

Supergirl s05e19 REACTION
soooooooooooos
- Now... I love this thing with Alex but for fuck sake give her a mask and not make up coming out of the fucking nowhere... that was weird.
- This episode gave me what i needed from the beginning of this season XD lol
- No one will convince me that Lena isnt in love with Kara lol.
- I was so happy to see Eve with her mooooooooom.
- And i am so happy that Lillian was there tooooooooo... i love that we will have more of Lillian. Just love her.
- I wanna know what will happen with Brainyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.... I hope Nia was able to save him...
- Lex is a manipulative piece of shit and we love him because of that.
- Will was the most useless character ever. The only thing interesting about him was his friend... like... Andrea's ex. They didnt do anything with him and i am sorry about that cause i kinda liked him... but it was pointless
- That Gemma bitch turning into a TechnoMedusa was scary ahahahahah... loved it. But why wasnt she sucked in the thing with the others?
- Oh Supergirl using again that power... the one when she claps her hands... i love that power so much... is my fav. Is supercool
- That parallel with Lena/Supergirl giving their speeches was beautiful. They were talking with people but to themselves as well.
- Lena protecting Supergirl with her life was really something. So beautiful to watch.
- I dont know what to expect for next season. I mean... obviously this was unfinished cause of everything. But the bad guys are still there and blablabla and dont know how it will go on.
- Supercorp will rise... lol

Is This Love (or Manipulation)? (EoWells x Reader)
Rating: G
Summary: You have fallen in love with a criminal, and he with you, or could it all just be apart of his ulterior motive?
A/N: Flash Drabble S05E19
Tumblr media
“Maybe it’s best if I die,” Eobard says with his finger drawing lines on the glass between you two, “then I wouldn’t have to wonder what life would be like to hold you in my arms.”
“Oh, Eo…” you exhale and place your own hand up to the window.
“You know I love you, don’t you (Y/N)?”
Your heart soars at his words, only to plummet fast after another voice enters your ears from behind.
“(Y/N), step away from him.”
It’s Iris.
“Why should I?” you reply to your friend, feeling a frown grow on your face. “And who are you to tell me what to do?”
“Thawne is manipulating you, can’t you see that?”
You turn around to look back at the man who had undoubtedly captured your heart since your first few meetings when you started your volunteering gig at the prison almost a year ago. Thinking back on your visits with him, there were no red flags or warning signs to this so-called ‘manipulation.’ He’s been nothing but sweet, honest, albeit sometimes strong and silent, and nothing but lovely to you. Eobard gives a small, encouraging smile. Iris doesn’t know what she’s talking about.
“You are wildly mistaken,” you tell her. She just doesn’t get it...
Your friend takes a step toward you, with her watchful eye on Eobard behind you.
“Please, (Y/N), believe me when I say that this man here is a twisted murderer. He is trying to win you over so that you’ll find a way to set him free,” Iris explains all of this calmly, sternness evident in her tone. “He’s desperate to escape, and you’re his only option right now.”
You swallow hard, then face the man behind the glass. His eyes have turned pleading, and are they glistening? Or are you seeing what you want to believe?
“Eobard,” you utter his name, at the same time exacting yet unsure, “Did you mean what you said? A minute ago?”
“That I love you, my dear?”
All you can do is nod, and watch him hopefully.
Eobard gives you the most brilliant smile you’ve ever seen grace his lips. They turn up, bringing out the distinguished laugh lines in his face. Your stomach does backflips because you’re already sure of his answer. It matches yours.
It has to.
