I'm not good at remembering dreams, actually don't usually, but last night... there was something about having to escape from an empty dilapidated building (I watched John Wolfe play Escape the Backrooms yesterday lmao), but another part of the dream also had to do with me getting advice on how to go to the toilet xD

I don't know who needs to hear this, but Izzy is canonically dead. He's DEAD dead. We saw that man get shot, bleed all over the place, give a nice speech, and die. We saw his funeral and no amount of #izzylives is going to unbury him.

"But Lucius--!" Lucius and Izzy are COMPLETELY different characters. Lucius did nothing wrong, we didn't see his death, and most importantly, his death would've dramatically changed the narrative. It would've been a hell of a lot harder for Ed to come back if he'd successfully killed someone who'd only tried to help him. Izzy, on the other hand, spent all of season one being mean and wet and all of season two working on himself (and being wet). He's not anything near innocent and his story is over. What purpose would coming back next season serve? Do we want to make it easier to redeem Prince Ricky?

"Izzy could be in the gravy basket!" Ed's gravy basket moment doesn't exist to set up a death-adjacent plane of existence from which all characters can be called back, it exists to illustrate his core issue (belief that he's unlovable) and set him on his path of healing. Why would Izzy need that? He did his healing. His story wrapped. He's a secondary character who has served his purpose.

"Stede got hit in the head with a cannonball and ep8 is him in the gravy basket and Izzy is still alive--" No. Stop. I get that not everyone loved the last episode, but will replacing it with a hackneyed "it was all a dream" retcon really make the writing stronger? No! It'd ruin Izzy's entire s2 arc (which was beautiful btw) and make his entire story worse in retrospect. Not to mention there were NO HINTS that ep8 wasn't entirely "real." OFMD isn't a sneaky show. If the writers wanted us to entertain the idea that Stede made up the events of an entire episode, they would've given clear indications.

Izzy is dead. He has ceased to be, he is bereft of life, he has joined the choirs invisible. He is an ex-Izzy. Be sad about it, but PLEASE don't pin all your hopes on a miraculous resurrection or gravy basket situation. That's only going to lead to hurt if (when) we get a third season.

P.S. You're doing amazing work, friendos. Thank you so much for providing a place for us to put our Izzy takes and standing between us and the Canyon. You're truly god's strongest soldier.

saw your post asking about autistic kotlc headcanons but it won't let me reblog and i can't find it now so i'm assuming you deleted it but. i would love to answer your question (as an autsitic kotlc fan) with: yes! you can totally headcanon technopaths and telepaths as autistic! dex is a character that i've read for a long time as having undiagnosed autism, and autistic!sophie headcanons are near and dear to my heart (they involve sophitz, if you wanna hear me scream about it just shoot me an ask), as well as other autistic character headcanons. just off the top of my head ik i headcanon elwin as autistic and keefe as having adhd and autism (even though i originally read him as just having adhd, but there's reasoning that i could ramble about for a long time and i doubt you want that unsolicited). autism is a spectrum and there's a lot of characters i can see as having different places on said spectrum that would be cool to explore through headcanons. so by all means, share away, friendo :)

Hey Izzy! I was legit thinking about you and about to send an ask about the Sophitz fic I finally started (though it's only the prologue where Sophie and Amy move in with Edaline, Grady, Jolie, and Keefe. There is a lot of really good sibling dynamics I adore, and Keefe is so full of life and energy that it kinda makes me want to cry about how happy he could have been in cannon if he'd grown up with Elwin or Grady and Edaline where he would've been shown unconditional love and support.) Anyways, yeah, I deleted that post because I was scared that I was being appropriating or something because I don't have autism so I shouldn't write characters with autism because I don't understand it as well as someone who has autism or is on the spectrum. I'm not sure how to write it properly to be authentic and yet, but I'm going to do it exactly how I write other things I'm not an expert on like sewing and watch a whole bunch of videos and read articles and talk to people I know who would be good resources (ex: could sew or are on the autism spectrum) so I can figure out how to portray it accurately. Also, I would love some autistic!sophie ideas, especially if Sophitz is involved and I'd love ADHD autistic Keefe ideas because I've also always thought of Keefe as ADHD and somewhere on the spectrum. And I have OCD and I see a lot of my own tendencies in Fitz (my dad has OCD too, but he reminds me more of Alden or Cassius.) I'd love to hear all of it and I'm totally going to be sending asks as soon as I finish typing this ask. Friendo I'm sure you realized this when you talked about CJ in the tags of the post of someone with my pfp, but you have in fact activated my trap card. So I do and don't think that Jack's passive aggression went over Ed's head, he just misinterpreted it because he didn't have all of the context. The two times Jack said something explicitly mean in front of Ed was "Whose the big gal" and "Not like one of these storebought types." First with whose the big gal, I think that Ed didn't so much miss that as he did write it off as "just how Jack is" Jack calls Ed a dopey bastard, he calls Izzy a sentimental bastard, he makes fun of Ed for not wanting to drink first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. Jack is mean across the board, including to people he's ostensibly on good terms with. Stede saw "who's the big gal" as bullying, Jack saw "whose the big gal" as a thinly veiled Jab at a guy he's already decided to hate before he met him, and Ed saw "whose the big gal" as light hearted ribbing that Jack uses to relate to people and an invitation for Stede to engage in the douchey frat behavior that could go real wrong real fast that he had to course correct slightly but ultimately not make a big deal of. No one is on the same page for that moment, but to Ed it's just his problematic bestie being problematic. Nothing to write home about.

As for "Not like one of these storebought types." I do actually think that that one might have gone over Ed's head, just because it's passive aggression and he's not super familiar with that, but I disagree whole heartedly with the assertion that it went over the crew's head. They're just on Jack's side, and you would be too. Like think about it, you're a very very poor person and you've resorted to crime in order to fucking eat, and here comes this fucking guy who's just doing crime for the love of the game. He's doing poverty tourism, and yeah he's paying you but also he keeps doing these things that are super annoying and betray that he very much doesn't understand what kind of financial pressure you're under. Then along comes this other guy who started out poor as dirt, but has done crime well enough that he now has money. Like he started where you are now and he worked his way up by being very very good at crime, and then he's mean to the guy who is doing poverty tourism about him doing poverty tourism, and even though you've come to like the rich guy, he fucking deserves to get bullied a little bit for being a rich guy who bought his way into it. Like on the one hand you're sort of friends but on the other hand fuck that guy a little bit. Like you'd defend him from the navy, and from homophobia, but when a poor person comes to talk shit about him for being rich, well he just has to take that because Jack is in fact right.

Also I don't think CJ is actually that frat boy coded, he's douchebag party animal coded, which is something that is highly associated with frats but is not exclusive to frats. Like rich kids who's dads are paying for them to go to college do not have a monopoly on getting very drunk and doing stupid shit, or on being bullies. Jack is working class coded (wayyyyyy more so than Izzy) a. because he's a dirty cowboy, B. Because he has a substantive class critique of Stede, and C. because it's heavily implied that he and Ed started out in roughly the same place when they got into piracy and Ed is explicitly rags to riches. His proficiency with passive aggression might cause someone to wonder but again, being a manipulative bully is not something that rich people have a monopoly on.

I think Ed kind of does have some issues communicating it's just that those issues aren't being bad at communicating they're "I operate at a certain level of honesty and I expect others to do the same" it's less of a "I can't read social cues" and more of a "why would I bother with that social cue when you directly contradicted it with your mouth? I'm just gonna go with what your mouth said." And honestly I think that this is the right way to communicate and we should start accusing Stede and Izzy of having trouble with communication actually. Like yeah Stede had a big neon "doesn't want to run away to China" sign directly above his head and it was flashing, but he said yes I will go to China with you so that's his problem for not clarifying.

ok friendo this one is just for me cause i gotta know, Hootie

ok so the thing you have to understand is that the way i feel about hootie is a lot like izzy but, like, in reverse

so, most kids cartoons you watch (not all) have this gimmick that I like to call 'the gross friend', which is like one ally character who hangs out with the protagonists but is gross, or annoying, usually for comedic value, and usually i dont like them (think the ape from GenRex, sorry ape). Hootie fully occupies the roll of 'gross friend' for Owl House but he's not gross to the levels I'm used to in other cartoons - he's more annoying than truly gross, and annoying is forgivable if the character is otherwise enjoyable

and the thing is Hootie kind of doesn't do a lot narratively and yet... he is The Owl House?? like the role that The Owl House plays in the first season of The Owl House is weirdly minor, and similar to Kikimora it makes me feel like his role is going to get punched up a LOT in the final episodes, and I'm mostly incredibly curious and fascinated to see what that is??

so like. a lot of Hootie's annoying-ness isn't really that funny to me personally, but there's just a spark of something interesting going on with this character that I'm intrigued by him anyways?? I wanna see what the story is gonna do with him??

also also, Hootie is like genuinely a nice person/demon and the way he's used as the emotional punching bag in season one frustrates me. Lilith befriending Hootie and them becoming weird besties ride-or-die was SUCH a good character choice for both of them because, like, after a whole season of Hootie just being nice but a little gross and pretty annoying suddenly he got a friend who legitimately cares for his wellbeing and happiness? and after a season of being literally the villain Lilith picks the one character we're most ready to see receiving sympathy and says 'this one, he's my best friend now'?? like, bam, instantly we love Lilith, instantly we see Hootie as a desirable friend and companion, it was so freaking good

and Hootie's been such a good catalyst for events happening - a deus ex machina to delay King getting that letter, actively causing Edith's transformation and Luz/Amity to get together, etc. like as a narrative device he's very useful, and as a character he's very interesting. but sometimes he rips himself out of his door and its gross ew
