Hello! Some info about this blog:
COMMON TAGS:
#bluebellyphotos (original photo posts)
#bluebellytalks (text posts and reblog comments)
#flora (plant and landscape photos)
#fauna (animal photos)
#arthropods (bugs and friends)*
#invertebrates (includes slugs and bugs and other critters)*
#scenes from my father's garden (a little series)
#us politics and #usa politics for your blocklist
*For spiders I also give content and trigger warnings in the tags. You can block spider posts by blocking #cw spiders or #tw spiders. I try to be responsive to reasonable content warning requests so send me an ask if there's anything else you want me to add to my tags.
FAQ:
What camera and lenses do you use?
I use a Sony A7Riv (a mirrorless digital camera) and most often I am using a 35mm prime lens (the FE 1.4/35 GM) or the less fancy but still serviceable 85mm prime (FE 1.8/85). I bought them all used off KEH, which I really recommend for anyone in North America trying to spend less money on gear. The majority of the photos posted here were made using that camera body and one of those two lenses, although I do occasionally use converters and lenses from old analog SLRs. I don't post my film work to this blog, but if you want to know about analog cameras and film photography, shoot me an ask.
Where was this photo taken?
After deliberating for a long time, I made a decision to not share geolocative information with my photos unless I was making a larger text post about the area and its history. I remember the world before geotagging and instagram, and I have really mixed feelings about – on some level – reducing the landscapes and lifeways I cherish to their aesthetics. While I do trust most of you to treat the places you visit with care, I've also seen a lot of trampled superblooms and summit queues for that one perfect shot. So if I'm going to tell you where something is, I also want to include information about why that place is so special. Unfortunately, most of the time I am too tired to write something long enough to do the place justice.
How do you edit your photos? Do you use presets, and if so, which ones?
For years this has been my workflow: I import everything into Adobe Lightroom Classic, which I like for its organizational capacity more than anything else. I built my own presets, each for specific lighting conditions, weather conditions, and landscape types, which I apply as photos come in. Then I do a second pass and make adjustments on each photo. I may share preset packages at some point – I just have to get around to it. I delete a lot of work, because the Sony a7riv files are enormous. I export everything for tumblr at or below 2000 pixels on the long edge, so the file sizes you guys see are comparatively small (want a larger file for some reason? send me an ask). I do work with photoshop as well, but generally not for the photos I post to this blog. I have been considering moving everything over to Darktable, which is open source.
NEW FOLLOWERS:
I get a lot of bot followers. If your blog has a profile pic, a header image, and some text in your info section that was clearly written by a human I’m much less likely to accidentally block you. I don't need you to list identity information or post a picture of yourself (I am glad you protect your privacy). Even just changing your blog’s colors can help signal you are human to other tumblr users, but if you get blocked it's almost certainly because you looked like a bot and I was going through the motions of clearing them out. If I notice your blog posting AI content I will block you even if you appear to be human and friendly. My only real aim with bluebelly-sun-serpentine is to encourage us all to pay attention to the world around us and to celebrate what that attention can do to connect us to all kinds of life, and I feel like ai is just kind antithetical to that, so I do my best to keep it off my dash.

In this guide, we’ll take you through the top highlights of this incredible region, along with insights into the best Chopta Tour Packages, Tungnath Temple Trek, Chandrashila Summit Trek, and Deoriatal Camping Packages.
Tungnath Temple Trek: A Spiritual Journey
One of the primary attractions of Chopta is the Tungnath Temple Trek, which takes you to one of the highest temples dedicated to Lord Shiva. The Tungnath Temple, located at an altitude of 3,680 meters (12,073 feet), is the third of the Panch Kedar temples, making it a highly revered site for Hindu pilgrims. The temple is surrounded by snow-capped peaks and verdant meadows, providing a spiritually uplifting experience for visitors.
The Tungnath Temple Trek is a relatively easy trek that starts from Chopta and takes approximately 3-4 hours to complete, depending on your pace. The trail, though steep in some sections, is well-marked and passes through lush forests, alpine meadows, and scenic landscapes. As you approach the temple, the majestic Himalayan peaks come into full view, offering a sense of awe and serenity.
The trek to Tungnath is open year-round, but the best time to visit is between April and June, and September to November, when the weather is pleasant, and the views are clearer. For those interested in a spiritual and physical challenge, the Tungnath Temple Trek is a must-do.
Chandrashila Summit Trek: A Trek to the Moon Peak
After visiting the Tungnath Temple, trekkers can continue their journey to Chandrashila, the summit of the Tungnath peak, which stands at 4,000 meters (13,123 feet). The Chandrashila Summit Trek offers one of the most rewarding experiences for trekkers, with panoramic views of the surrounding Himalayan ranges, including Nanda Devi, Trishul, and Chaukhamba.
The trek from Tungnath to Chandrashila is about 1-2 hours long and is a steep ascent, but it is manageable for most trekkers with basic fitness levels. The summit offers a 360-degree view of the Himalayas and the surrounding valleys, making it a perfect spot for photography and reflection. On clear days, the sight of the snow-capped peaks against the blue sky is nothing short of magical.
The Chandrashila Summit Trek is ideal for those looking for a challenging yet rewarding experience. It is also a great way to connect with nature and spirituality, as the summit is often associated with ancient myths and stories of Lord Rama, who is believed to have meditated here.
Deoria Tal: A Tranquil High-Altitude Lake
Located around 3 kilometers from Chopta, Deoria Tal is a pristine high-altitude lake situated at an elevation of 2,438 meters (7,999 feet). The lake, surrounded by dense forests of oak, rhododendron, and pine trees, offers a tranquil environment for those seeking peace and solitude. The reflective surface of the lake creates a mirror image of the snow-capped peaks, adding to the mystical charm of the place.
The trek to Deoria Tal is a relatively easy one and can be completed in 2-3 hours from Chopta. The route passes through a beautiful forest trail, and once you reach the lake, you can enjoy a peaceful picnic by the waterside or indulge in photography, capturing the stunning reflections of the Himalayas. It is also a perfect place for camping, as you can book Deoriatal Camping Packages to experience the beauty of the night sky and the serenity of the lake.

With an elevation of approximately 3,066 meters (10,062 feet), Nag Tibba is the highest peak in the Nag Tibba range and provides breathtaking views of the Doon Valley, Yamuna Valley, and numerous snow-capped peaks including Kedarnath and Bandarpunch.

The landscape transforms into a canvas of colors, offering a perfect backdrop for photography and reflection.
If you're considering other trekking options in Uttarakhand, the Chopta Chandrashila Trek and Dodital Trek are excellent choices to complement your trekking adventures. The Chopta Chandrashila Trek takes you through lush meadows and culminates at Chandrashila Peak, offering stunning views of the Nanda Devi and Trishul ranges. This trek also features the sacred Tungnath Temple, which is a highlight for many trekkers.
On the other hand, the Dodital Trek leads you to the serene Dodital Lake, known for its tranquil beauty and the opportunity to fish for trout. It’s another fantastic trek that showcases the natural beauty of the region, making it a perfect addition to your trekking itinerary.
Best Time to Trek
