I always used to sit with my family when I was a kid. They’d be playing board games, and I’d just be watching, content just to watch, listening to them talk amongst themselves, my uncle getting out of hand and my aunt telling him to shut up. But I didn’t have to contribute, I could just exist next to my mom who let me have a sip of her wine. I don’t know. It’s not the same thing, but sometimes I don’t want to talk, I want to be surrounded by friends while they talk. Surrounded by love.

You ever been in a state where you physically have no energy, but you're bored and socially understimulated so you kind of wish you could just invite people to come over like this:

and this is also why social isolation is so dangerous and can be problematic. social connection isn't a luxury, it's a basic need.

and social exclusion can be a form of torture. it can literally kill people, a slow death. it can kill people through a slow decline in mental health that leads to suicide, it can kill through a decline in physical health that leads to otherwise-treatable or otherwise-preventable conditions taking people's life (in case you're having trouble understanding this point, note that it happens frequently among the elderly, but it can happen with younger people as well especially among people with serious chronic health conditions), and it can also kill through people seeing themselves as less valuable and/or hating their lives and making reckless decisions as a result (drugs, car accidents from reckless driving, neglecting serious health conditions that require treatment, etc.)

so like please see both good and bad signs of this. and maybe keep it in your mind when considering whether someone needs someone to reach out to them, or whether or not it might be too cruel an overreaction to socially exclude someone in response to some sort of mild perceived transgression

its true that romance amd friendship will not solve everything but. objectively speaking its very hard to get sad when you can say 'lets go get cake tomorrow okay' and someone will go get cake with you. like there is some good at least. you know

Love isn't enough.

Loving your friends isn't the same as being kind

Loving your partner isn't a replacement for treating them well

Loving your child isn't enough to stop you from abusing them

Love isn't enough to have a healthy relationship

When people say "marriage is work" or "friendships are work" or "parenting is work"

They don't mean "it's a horrible slog I have to endure"

It means you have to put in effort to maintain it

You have to have difficult conversations

You have to swallow your pride sometimes and admit you were wrong

You have to enforce your boundaries and stand your ground at others

You have to be vulnerable

and you have to be strong for them in turn

You have to communicate

Even when it's difficult

Even when you don't want to

You have to change

You BOTH have to change

Not completely. Not to hide who you are or become small. But in making space for each other. In adapting to each other's needs and finding a comfortable middle ground where you are both happy.

And that's what people mean when they say relationships take compromise.

Sometimes you both have to make concessions to find the happy medium and that's okay

Love alone isn't enough

You have to back it up with actions

You have to put in effort

I don't remember

I can't even remember, how was our last day? Maybe we were happy, or perhaps we were sad. Separation is such a foolish thing, just a simple goodbye, Yet, we didn't say a single word to each other.

"Friends forever," was the wrong phrase for us, Perhaps it was forever that ended our friendship. Didn't they say nothing lasts forever? You were a beautiful dream to me, but even dreams are meant to be woken from.

Did I ask for too much? I don’t know anymore, everything happened so fast. You drifted away, and I didn’t even try to reach you. We drifted further apart, and you never wrote to me again.

I thought I had forgotten, but I was wrong; You were in the far corner of my mind, all along. Sometimes you cross my mind, and I feel like writing, But only my own message on an empty screen replies.

Our friendship was the one thing I never wanted to lose, Yet, I couldn't even hold onto that. Sometimes, I still sit and think, Do you remember me too...?
