Not sure how I'm going to work this into conversation... #wod #wordswordswords #wordaddict #oddlyspecific #rare #obsolete #cabbage... #picard Origin: Caboshed, also spelled caboched and cabossed isa technical term in heraldry referring to a beastdecapitated behind its horns. The -ed shows thatthe variant spellings are all past participles of thevery rare and obsolete verb cabochen, cabachen “tobehead (a deer or other beast) right behind itshorns.” The English verb comes from the Frenchverb cabocher (past participle caboché), aderivative of caboche (Old French caboce), apejorative northern French dialect (Norman, Picard) word meaning “head” (literally “cabbage”). Caboche may be a development of Latin caput“head.” Caboshed entered English in the 16thcentury.
