Hi! I really love your Chilchuck analysis and headcanons. Are there any songs that remind you of him/think suits his character?
😏Why yes indeed I do! I have a couple playlists for him, not one for just him quite yet, but there are still songs that are more about him than the relationship/them in every playlist bc that’s just how playlists are with me, I have this one about him & his wife, (songs aren’t ordered) this marchil one, (ony partially with a song order) this marchil angst one… (believe it or not the songs are fully ordered except the last few songs) And this one I actually haven’t shared yet but just bc of the whole ~working class ethnicity~ thing I see a lot of my culture in Chil/half-foots so have a french canadian Quebecer Chilchuck playlist but uh yeah the songs are all in french, it’s mostly folk. If I worked any faster and better I’d love to make some animatics with some of these… I still got some plans though. So far my favorite Chilchuck playlist not by me that’s underrated banger after banger and each reallt fits is one by my buddy @lyril ! It’s short and sweet, prob with more of the character focus that you’re looking for. Little Lion Man oh my god 😭😭
These playlists are for trudging through lists of songs and finding the good bits & meaning in them yourself buuut I have picked out a bunch of specific lyrics and songs I really like for him in this post before, and not unlike that, I have a couple web weavings with song lyrics for him, one on Chilchuck & wife and a marchil one, and again if you’re not interested in the relationships there are still stuff in there that fit him specifically so I still recommend skimming.
Jackrabbit by San Fermin, Dead Inside by Younger Hunger, TrusT by Half-alive, Cheap Liquor by Ericdoa, Heart-shaped Box by Nirvana... Some songs that come to mind for him rn. TrusT is one of my top songs for him I looove it and I think the music does enhance the lyrics it’s soo…
Trust is like a pond of murky water Too dark to see, mysteriously undercover I can't jump off the high dive, even though I really want to My toes are hanging off the ledge Trust is like the middle of the ocean Can't see the bottom, but I'm floating here, supported I know that it can take me even deeper if I let it But my limbs are trying to swim away It's like a tree that towers 50 feet above us Grown over time through many seasons Believing in something more than just the surface I trust that this is worth it But my toes are hanging off the ledge Hold to this significance And lean into the process Rest and know the love you hold It won't be taken back, no I have faith that the world I'm in Will be redeemed to its place again But there's a weight that I can't explain So tell me why I feel this way tell me why I feel this way (Speaking slowly when I'm out of breath) (Losing confidence between the steps) tell me why I feel this way how sweet, the taste of certainty (Wasting water in a desert bed) (Chasing wind outside the promised land) releasing hope to carry me (Know the story isn't over yet)
Anyone who knows me knows my favorite Chil & Chilwife song is Little Soldiers by The Crane Wives. And well, there’s a reason Hurry Hurry is on almost every Chil playlist. Drunk by The Living Tombstone is a staple for me too. And oughh I recommend this animatic of Well it’s better than the alternative it’s so 😭 10/10 please please watch
Ohh and one of my fav Chil fanart ever is this one if you scroll all the way down and the song that goes with it is Call Boy by Syudou. It’s the only place where you can see it rn sorry, this ask is incredibly timed actually bc just yesterday I went looking for this fanart again and saw that the artist’s twitter got deleted and there’s still the art on Pixiv but there used to be a video and that’s the one that truly fully git my heart </3 I dmed the artist asking on if the video is still up anywhere so crossing my fingers about when/if I get a reply… Here’s the lyrics for Call Boy, give it a listen it gets me keeling over to the floor. CW alcoholism and also gotta scroll through suggestive stuff bc the art link is Pixiv 🎶
#Ask#Chilchuck tims#chilchuck’s wife#character playlist#ship playlist#Music sharing#Don’t send the Searchlights also lives in my brain#Friend is saying Noah Kaham esp Stick Season is very him. Your Needs My Needs is omggg chilwife…

You may have already made a post about this so sorry if so, but what are your headcanons regarding how Matt and Katya met? And how they kept touch over the years?
Love your content btw!!
Thank you! And actually, somehow, no one has asked me that on any of the blogs! I had to think and coalesce some thoughts. This got long so I am going to split it into two parts but their meeting!
The Trans-Canada railway was completed in the 1880s and finally opened up what was called the ‘last best west.’ Between the Canadian Rockies in the far west and the western edge of the woodlands that define eastern Canada in Manitoba, the prairies stretch out in what looks to a child of the eastern woodlands like a vast treeless void. Grasslands and steppes are incredibly ecologically important, but I am ethnically a clinker-built canoe lover, and they scare the shit out of me. Judging by settlement patterns, most French Canadians agreed. As the American West closed, some Americans were willing to join Canadians and take land ripped from indigenous peoples too. Alberta was a result. Concerned about American settlement, in 1896, the Dominion of Canada’s federal government coordinated with the foreign office of the British Empire to look for more settlers. At the same time, in what was then the Austro-Hungarian empire, Galicia was likely the poorest place in continental Europe, with the only other comparable example being famine-era Ireland. The other Ukrainian-speaking areas of the Austro-Hungarian empire (75-80 of that territory was held by the Russian Empire) weren’t much better off. Each government found a solution in the other. Britain, representing Anglo-dominated Canada, and the Austrians shook hands, and the flow began. The US saw the largest share of Eastern European immigration in this period, but the majority who sailed to Canada were Ukrainians. And even before immigration, the region's international ties were based on Canadian financial interests. So, what does this mean for Katya and Matt?
The scene I imagine is that while the powerful wheel and deal, two products of empire crossed paths. One of these meetings may have taken place during a summer folk festival. Girls wove wreaths of flowers into their hair and floated others down the river. Songs were sung, vodka and wine flowed, and dancers joined hands. While the Austrians and the British bargained, a young man not so far removed from his peasant roots and his own saint’s day celebrated with fire and river wandered into the edge of a valley clearing at the end of the longest day of the northern year. As a maple or spruce was decorated, the sun sank, and the last light of day fell like fire light onto a Carpathian river valley. Bonfires were lit. Against a world on fire, a child of the woodlands looked upon the silhouette of his future, crowned with birchwood silver woven into her braids. Katya sensed him, a being like herself from across the world and turned. She looked at him a long moment, with eyes belonging to a world since passed set in the face that would one day be the image that sprang into Matthew’s mind when he needed to summon a memory of home that would not cleave him in two. She bid him to approach and, with one gesture, changed their fates.
Later, he would find out she spoke the court French of his earliest years, but this night, there is only Katya’s outstretched hand and burning blue eyes reflecting fire and Matt’s fingers lacing into hers to spin in the dance of all the other young men and women. There is no discussion of soil and wheat, nor opportunity and affection. There is only alcohol, laughter, music, fire and spinning, his mouth full of her language, unknown but already familiar. There is only a lightening of her eyes as she enjoys herself, her head flung back in laughter as he chokes on pear horilka stronger and sweeter than any whiskey he’s ever made. Her wreath topples out of her hair, and she bursts into laughter as he snatches it up and runs, calling over his shoulder, and she hikes up her skirts and follows, hand outstretched, only to grasp onto him and run, stride long and confident as they leap together to make it over the bonfire.
Still, together, hands clasped, his right her and left and left touching the laurel wreath, the last symbol she indulges from her Varangian roots. Eye contact, a significance, a weight that will one day balance the heaviness of history. She will press his heart into the shape of hers with that weight. He will give it back in every way he can, the ballast of whatever love she’ll let him give. But for now, in the last light of day, there is only a young man and a young woman hand in hand, circling a fire under a night sky. Here, they are under a star-streaked Milky Way that gives way to a mead moon rising over the mountains. Someday, save them; that moon will be the only witness to this night when mortality leaves alive only a man, a woman, and their most human memory.

12. why the 1880s?
something about this decade really sings to me. I find in particular, nearing the end of the nineteenth century, so much was happening on around the world in terms of arts, politics, technology, colonization. world events and global news don’t personally reach the day-to-day lives of the everyday folk, but they are an important part in gauging what life, thought, and society was about—what things were important then and now?
basically for myself, reminding me of notable things that occured during the 1880s—some thematic, some of relevance to context and characters, and the rest just ?? interesting and/or wild?
cocaine is a hot new cure for everything and anything. perscribed, sold in foods and more. heroine introduced as a lesser-addictive substitute for morphine…
lots of developments in fields of psychology; many experiments and happenings; Freud starts his work 1886.
1880-1914 had +twenty million immigrants to the United States: Germany, Ireland, England, China had the most arrivals.
William Dorsey Swann, the first self-proclaimed drag queen, organizes a series of drag balls in Washington, D.C. 1880-1890s.
Jack the Ripper claims his “first” victim in 1888 White Chapel, London. big scare.
Sherlock Holmes first appears in Arthur Conan Doyle’s A Study In Scarlet as part of the British magazine’s Beeton’s Christmas Annual in 1887.
Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson is published in 1886. Gothic fiction, drawing from emerging fields of science and psychology. & Treasure Island was published earlier in 1883 by him too!
Mark Twain drops The Prince and the Pauper (1881), Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (1884), A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court (1889).
Bel-Ami, Guy de Maupassant’s second novel is published in 1885. about a man who seduces and manipulates high society French women in the French colonies for power and wealth. MOVIE WAS ADAPTED IN 2012 STARTING ROBERT PATTINSON LOL
western European art movements very romantic and swirly and pretty: Monet, Debussy xoxo.
meanwhile, African American ragtime music becomes the “pop” music across the pond here.
North Dakota (1889), South Dakota (1889), Montana (1889), Washington (1889) become states.
train segregation laws flag beginning of Jim Crow; Civil Rights Movement of 1875 voided, making discrimination in private is not illegal, and prohibiting state intervention to personal or commercial segregation. l*nching continues throughout the south. slavery may be over on paper, but indentured labour is legal.
1882 infamous O.K Corral gunfight.
Gold Rush continues, all over the world—South Africa, to British Columbia, to California, to Argentina, to Russia-China borders.
centuries of American “Indian” wars continue.
American Dawes Act of 1887 granted American government authorization to regulate indigenous lands, including creating and assigning and enforcing reservations.
Sitting Bull’s 1883 speech of the atrocities experienced at the hands of white American settler colonists.
Canadian Pacific Railway 1881-1885. foreign labourers were hired to do a lot of heavy, dangerous, unwanted work. in America, more than 100,000km of tracks were laid by majority Chinese, Irish, Scandinavian workers.
America’s Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882 and Canada’s Chinese Immigration Act of 1885 was officiated, enforcing law of a Head Tax to be paid for every Chinese person entering North America. over the course of the next couple of decades, the fee of $1,500 was doubled to $5,000 was increased 500% to $25,000 in today’s currency—per person. this had devastating and lasting impacts on generations and societies of Chinese living both overseas and already in North America. propaganda at this time created many racist myths that persist today: there are too many Asians, they are taking our jobs, (the men) are gross and effeminate and a threat to (white) women, they shady and scheming people. these were the first and only major federal legislation to explicitly suspend immigration for a specific nationality in American and Canadian history. (I study Asian Canadian history, I can go on about this all day)
Tong Wars (1883-1913) had Chinatown gangs and factions in violent street wars across America, San Fransisco to New York.
large, targeted, and repeated anti-Jewish rioting (pogorm) and antisemitism rampant throughout Imperial Russia, 1881-1882 had more than two hundred anti-Jewish events alone. Jews continue to be racialized and othered.
fuck ton of colonization happening in Africa and the Middle East, Southeast Asia. Berlin conference 1884-1885 literally chopped up Africa to distribute to European powers.
Irish nationalist efforts to push forth Home Rule bill of sovereignty is defeated in British Parliament. Irish are not “white”, they are “othered” in Europe and in Americas.
use of photographic film pioneered by George Eastman, who started manufacturing film. his first camera (Kodak) was ready for sale in 1888.
Thomas Edison gets lit in New York 1883 with first electrical power station. next several year sees major cities being lit up with street lamps and public lighting with the science and works of a Nikolas Tesla (1886-1893).
hell of a lot more inventions in the works and patents being claimed. Hertz and radiowaves, Bell for telephone services.
“Between the years of 1850–1900, women were placed in mental institutions for behaving in ways the male society did not agree with”
way too much history to cram, obviously. here are some keywords for further research oki
prison industry / spiritualism / opium epidemic / irregular and uneven “modernizations” in rural vs. urban areas / class and poverty gaps / morality scares, checks, comparisons, gaps / new businesses and gadgets, products, tech to help with anything / fascination of the (colonial) Other; side shows, “freak shows” and other human zoos

Welcome, Traveler
it has occurred to me that I should probably have a blog intro post so here goes ig:
The purpose of this blog is to get me comfortable with posting random shit on tumblr, because I would like to do that more but I have crippling social anxiety so I have struggled previously. This will be fan content and my own original content, plus some complaining and shitposting presumably.
Some things about me:

My special interest is biology and some other loosely related fields
I have an extremely slow processing speed and impaired fine motor skills so I really suck at a lot of video games
I paint my nails like Jonny D'Ville from The Mechanisms because Space Pirate™

I am learning french very, very slowly
But yeah, welcome to my nerd space, thanks for stopping by, and feel free to stick around :)
(DNI if you're a bigot of any kind, support the use of AI to generate media, or are a 'proshipper'/pedo. Stay the fuck off my page.)

an introduction of sorts
Established in 1962 in mainland Nova Scotia, Dan & The Dandelions have been a classic on Canadian and American radio stations alike since their debut album. Starting off as a folk quartet in the late 1950s, The Dandelions have come a long ways.
Frontman, Dan Miller, was born and raised in a Nova Scotian farm off the Bay of Fundy. Growing up the oldest of 4 siblings and having both parents pass away at a young age, Dan has always been quite aware of his surroundings and place in society’s food chain. As a boy, Dan adored the music of Hank Snow, Wilf Carter, and Patsy Cline, even naming three barn cats after them. After being diagnosed with autism in the 90s, Dan begins fighting and protesting for the better treatment of children and testing of adults that may have been overlooked.
In 1959, Dan formed a small folk quartet called Miller, MacLaughlin, Murray, and Nixon. It had two school buddies, Simon Nixon and Craig “Crash” Murray, and his life-partner, Pete MacLaughlin(married 2006). After Crash had left the group, the other three renamed the band and began travelling across Canada eventually meeting bassist, Blanc Monet.
Simon Nixon was the band’s drummer, an orphaned southern boy adopted by his aunt and uncle in Nova Scotia. Dan and Simon met at 9 and 10 years old in a one-room schoolhouse. “We met the December of 1954– Simon had never seen the snow before, he was like a cactus in a snowy tundra,” said Dan in his 1994 autobiography, Dan Miller; Maritime Boy, Guitar-Wielding Hero. Simon married Scottish paranormal-investigator, Anne Abercrombie upon finding out she was pregnant with their first child. The couple have three children, Lenora (later Lennan), Esme and Celeste.
Pete MacLaughlin, a multi-instrumentalist, son of the CEO of MacLaughlin Oral Care and later husband of Dan Miller. On top of that, Pete is a devote animal activist and gay-rights activist after being outed at the height of the AIDS epidemic. Miller and MacLaughlin had been together since they were teenagers, the two had met during the summer of 1958 and began dating in 1961.
The last member to join was French-Canadian bassist, Hugo-Michel “Blanc” Monet. When he first joined the band, Blanc could barely speak English and was taught by his bandmates. He is the younger brother of famous model and radio personality, Colette Monet, the siblings grew up in an apartment in Québec city. Before joining The Dandelions, Monet was married to Melvina Harris, the two had no children. After his divorce with Melvina, Blanc married fellow musician, Natalie Benoit in 1969, they had one daughter, Avril Monet. A decade after Natalie’s death in 1973, Blanc married friend of the band’s, Jael Levi in 1983, they have one son, Antoine Monet-Levi, and Blanc began treating Jael’s daughter, Juniper Levi like his own.
The only girl in the band would be single mother, protest singer, and women’s rights activist Jael Levi. After being forced to marry at 16 her verbally abusive dear husband, James Hall, mysteriously died (she killed him and was never caught) the next year. Levi had her first child at 18, refusing to let the child have her dead father’s last name she was named Juniper Levi. Jael began writing songs and met Dan & The Dandelions in 1966 after their second album hit the charts.
Their east coast roots have most definitely influenced the band, the usage of fiddles and even bagpipes and the lyrics and stories of maritimers being woven into lyrics. Blending country, folk, and rock into a genre of their own.

Today's compilation:
Back to the 70's 1995 Soul / Disco / Glam Rock / Pop / R&B
Well, folks, it looks like the prolifically cheap and scammy ways of the dubiously iconic K-tel label were not just confined to the US, because here they are with a pretty disappointing look back at some 70s hits for the UK market too. If you ever thought that K-tel's hoodwinking style of loading up their releases with combinations of significantly inferior re-recordings and low-quality originals was some sort of uniquely American success story of budget-mass-produced capitalistic shoddiness, you'd be wrong, because apparently Brits have been forced to navigate this gambit of theirs too.
But at least credit where credit's due: K-tel did not mail in this selection here. They may have chosen awful versions of songs for the most part for this CD, but damnit, those awful versions were of hits that were actually big in the UK; and a whole lot of them weren't very successful Stateside, either.
So if you, for whatever reason, ever want to subject yourself to K-tel's deceitfulness, but you want to do it more Britishly, here's a comp with a bunch of weak re-renderings of authentic soul, disco, and glam rock hits that were popular across the pond in the 70s. Most disappointing moment here for me personally was not being able to learn how they attempted to replicate the iconic echo-popping wood block sound from the bridge of disco diva-porn star Andrea True's "More More More" that later went on to seed the success of Canadian 90s one-hit wonder alt-rap group Len's "Steal My Sunshine." The jaunty keys from that bridge that Len used are there, but the wood block piece is just skipped over entirely in this rendition. Very tragic 😔.
But not all of this is a total waste, though. Sonically, the original hit version of Barry Blue's "Do You Wanna Dance" may sound like it was captured with a discount store cassette recorder here, but it's still a fun and clap-happy piece of catchy party-time glam rock; and The Peppers' "Pepper Box" is a silly wad of French instrumental disco bubblegum with quirkily squealing p-funky synths on it, and I think it's something that could've maybe served amply as a theme song for some sort of British Soul Train equivalent; also not a re-recording.
So, once again, overall, a really bad product from K-tel, but still a couple decent glints on it. My suggestion to you is that if you want a good, eclectic dose of the 70s UK pop music landscape, seek out the original versions of all these hits instead.
P.S.: The version of "Do You Wanna Dance" that I'm posting here sounds a lot better than the one that was used for this CD. It's essentially the same version of the song—i.e. not a re-recording—but it's just of a higher sonic quality 👍.

So I did this for French comic strips and I had another bad idea:
I didn't put anyone from Europe because I am from a stranger point of view so I wouldn't have known who they really consider as their best and most recognized artists.
Most of those listed above are held very dearly to Québécois: Dédé Fortin, the lead singer of Les Colocs is a bit of our Kurt Cobain (Different musical styles but similar guys), Gilles Vigneault composed what a lot of people consider Québec's national anthem, La bottine Souriante, Québec Redneck, and Richard Desjardins have given their own modern twist to French Canadian folk music, Robert Charlebois was one of our greatest singers in the 70s, La Bolduc and Félix Leclerc were pioneers in making music for the people and by the people (A musical award is named after Leclerc).
No I did not include Céline Dion despite her superb career, but I think almost everyone has heard of her so... 🤷

I saw you're getting a degree in history, what are some of your favorite topics/eras?
HELLO YES I AM INDEED!
I would have to say I love 20th century history, particularly labor history in the united states and also like. leftism at the time w the first unions and stuff. the civil rights movement and vietnam war also interest me a lot. i listen to a lot of folk music and i love communist harmonica bisexuals.
I've also really been into 19th century history with the various rebellions, revolutions and political changes at the time!! mainly the french revolution and the rébellion des patriotes if you wanna get really specific with québec history. i am also interested in the history of québec in general, particularly the independence movement and the history of canadian french.
and like i was a middle ages kid. ive always been really into it. im having an intro class on it this semester and i am sososo excited. im also having intro classes to antiquity, contemporary europe (1815-present) and modern europe (1492-1815) but that's my university's way of dividing the eras. what i've had the most of so far is the the modern europe class, which is mostly about the renaissance, colonialism, the fall of constantinople and just generally the political transformations in europe during the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries.
I'm really excited about my other intro classes, the antiquity one in particular. I've had my very first one on thursday and the professor taught about prehistory + ancient civilizations I was so into it.
There's just so much to history! Ultimately what drives me to it is the fact that these were people that existed and lived and died just like we do right now but so long ago!! And everything was so different and yet just the same!!! It's all about humanity!! Love and light <33
