"Justin Bieber is clean now." "He just made a mistake." "I will always support him."

These are all true things my sister has said about her idol, Justin Bieber. Every single day, my sister comes home and constantly talks about her love for this twenty-year old, and how no matter what he does, she will always stand by him and his decision making. Thick and thin, she would back him up, no matter what the fight. 

These are the kind of things that I don't understand about today's youth. I don't understand how such a poor role model -- someone caught with drugs, someone who has been arrested for a DUI -- can be looked upon as though he were a saint and have all his actions excused just like that. I don't understand how anyone, including my sister whom I love with all my heart, can support what he has done. It is one thing to like his music, but it is another to try and excuse his bad behavior. That's wrong. 

If anyone else would have gotten in a car and drove drunk, there would be no support. A child could die from a drunk driver's stupid decision making regardless of their star quality. I've tried to explain to my sister time and time over that because he is a star and because he has fans, it does not mean that his actions are excusable. He made a bad decision -- he's made countless bad decisions -- and he should not be supported in them. Yet, she still finds ways to turn it around: "He didn't mean to," "No one got hurt," "People do it every day." Well, let me just say this, and I hope that every single belieber who still tries to make excuses for this pop star is listening: 

Imagine if you got a phone call one night when you were home alone telling you that our entire family was in a car accident. None of them made it; there were no survivors. What caused the accident? A celebrity, drunken on fame and alcohol, had been driving too fast, swerved into oncoming traffic, and instantly ended the lives of your family. 

Would it matter if that star was sober a year later? Would it matter if he made a mistake? Would you still support him?

Even if no one was hurt in Justin Bieber's drunken escapades, someone could have, and it could have been your family. 

Think twice before you decide who to support and why.
