Another day, another Conan

Detective Conan 30th Anniversary Exhibition in Kuala Lumpur is finally here! And going there is the best decision ever!

To avoid people, I went there during weekday, and I took my AL for these... Also, it is the best decision I've ever made.

If you know me, I am obsessed (but not in the unhealthy way, just the good amount of obsession) with Detective Conan, especially with Shinichi. He is been my favourite character ever and I even dubbed him as my first husband. He is my comfort character, ever.

The exhibition is held at Pavillion Bukit Jalil. I want to purchase ticket for early exhibition, but I cannot. I really want to go to the opening ceremony. They have the mascot over there. Still, I get early bird promotion for purchased the ticket before it is started. Too bad that I have to go alone cause nobody really love Detective Conan like I do.

So, let's me tell you what I like the most for this exhibition. Bear with me cause I'm a little bit bias because, well, you know...

Of course it is started with the illustration picture from the manga and a word from Aoyama-sensei and along the way. I like went the show Conan's statue with how he always point out number 3 .

I went alone, so I had to be a little bit creative. And my brilliant brain gave me an idea. But, I do sometime asked someone to help me to took a picture for me.

As usual, they gave a pamphlet to complete the stamp. For that, they have small floating shelf for that. Using the shelf, I used my Apple watch to get me the best picture that I made to take.

The moments that I want to highlight like below:

From the section of Conan's Love, there are some picture that I like. For example like how they show love for Chihaya and Yokomizo being highlighted. Are they canon?

And about Higo Ryusuke, which is my favourite minor character in this show. I wish we have more screen time for this man!

But, of course, we do do have the infamous Shinichi and Ran's confession scene. They are so adorable!

They also have Kazuha and Heiji's love scene, but to be honest, Aoyama-sensei dragged this too long and made me lost interest on their love scene. I love them, but addition of Ooka Momiji, yeah, not really my cup of tea.

We also have the cute Conan's design for the Conan's Hannin, which show the case that Conan's solved. Who still remember this creepy man from the library's case? I almost got heart attack when I saw this. They put it at the very strategic place!

And the famous あれれ（A~re~re). It also mention that Conan's famous excuse which is go to the toilet~

So, as Conan's fan, of course I know all the cases!

And can you imagine how many criminals in Conan's world? (exclude the filter's cases). Let me show you....

Yeah, so many criminals and I can said some of them are justified to do the crime. Don't quote me on that. But some cases are just sad. Sometime, I cannot hate the criminals.

And do you know who being shot the most with a tranquilizer needle? Yes, you guess it right. It is Kogorou!

They also show how many needle tranquilizer that was shot by Conan, which seems less than I expected. I swear I thought it should be more!

And at the end of the exhibition, there are cutout board of all major characters of the Detective Conan, but I want to highlight these two.

Ran is just adorable as she is but Shinichi! They have no right to made him this handsome and dashing! With tuxedo as well!. This remind me on one fanfiction from Ao3 that I love but not complete yet. It is Interview Mania by @purplellamanator. I can imagine them, Tokyo Spirits player Shinichi go to the red carpet, being interview by host Sonoko, and then model Ran also being interview on TV show by, you know it, also host Sonoko... I am rambling but I said what I said!

Lastly, of course I need to buy the merchandises! For me, it is affordable compare to online website (since some of these are Vietnam's product). With the purchase above RM100, you got free paper bag (since in Malaysia, you have to pay for paper and plastic bag. Even it is not free, I still gonna purchase it). The one from Japan is more expensive. But, I managed to purchase within my original target budget. I also have to buy expensive drink for the exclusive bookmark. Since I collect bookmarks all over the world, I closed my eyes on that. As long as I get the bookmark.

Also, I purchase the wrong T-shirt. I only notice it on the next day...

With this, I can confirm that I had a great and absolutely amazing time here. If I got another time and budget, I absolutely want to go here again.

Thanks for the organiser for bring my childhood here. I cannot express how grateful I am, cause lately we only got some famous animes exhibition like Demon Slayer, Jujutsu Kaisen and Attack on Titan. Finally, Conan is in Kuala Lumpur.

I got some idea for it since forever, but when it become canon on movie, I just laugh it off. I even asked my brother in Japan to confirm the rumor about the spoiler for me, since he went watch the movie before it come to Malaysia.

He got the whole section for his crime and handsome face! And his cutout board also dashing, but I wish they dress him with tuxedo with different color...

And although it is not my favourite section, I just want to upload this picture, the one from grave. Just to think only one of them still survive, pain my heart. Talking about Amuro, I wonder who will replace his seiyuu, since he being involve with the horrible scandal.

And lastly, all the casts are here. Can I just take these after this exhibition over? I probably don't talk about others, but they still have place in my heart. I LOVE DETECTIVE CONAN!

Fixing Joan of Arc

My recent rants about Joan of Arc and her mishandling in Miraculous got me thinking about how powerful her presence could have been given that she shows up in season five. To explain this, I’m going to quickly summarize Joan's story to give you some context for how she could fit into the story of Miraculous. I’ll also note that I only started thinking about all of this because of the Wishbone episode that I brought up in that other post. An episode that used the events of the real life Joan of Arc to empower young girls, which is a concept that’s a perfect fit for a show that claims to be all about girl power.

Joan of Arc: The Highlights

Joan of Arc was a normal peasant girl with a normal peasant life until she received a divine call to help the people of France expel foreign invaders, thereby maintaining French freedom. Joan answered this call and went to join the army. It was initially hard for people to take this untrained 16-year-old seriously, but she was able to inspire them with nothing more than her own personality and her belief in her divine calling. This led her to her being granted an audience with dauphin Charles (dauphin is a French title for the oldest son of the king. Basically the prince-heir-apparent as the war Joan got involved in was largely about who would be king of France, this French prince or the king of England who was - at this point - a child).

The audience began with Joan being tested. The dauphin was not at the head of the room as one might expect. Instead, he was hidden in the crowd. This didn’t stop Joan. She was instantly able to pick the dauphin out of the crowd and declare that she was here to get him his crown, a rather miraculous event that further inspired people to believe in her.

Eventually, Joan was sent to the battlefield where her leadership was a major factor in both the French victory and in King Charles VII’s consecration (the event that makes him king instead of just the dauphin). The fighting did not stop after Charles VII was named king as the crown was still considered to be up for grabs by those who were against him. Joan continued to be part of the fighting and she was eventually captured while trying to free a French town that was under siege. Joan was then sent to Paris where she was kept prisoner, but not by invading English. Her captors were members of the French church who were supporting the English.

Because Joan claimed that she was working under the direct orders of Saints, they had to declare her a witch. Otherwise their continued undermining of Charles VII’s rule would be an act against God. This means that Joan wasn't being tried on her own merits. She'd been turned into a pawn in this bigger game and was being used by her captors to curry favor with the English invaders. Her captors ordered her to retract her claims or be named a heretic and, while she did briefly waver, Joan ultimately held true to her claims, leading her to be found guilty of heresy. After this, she was turned over to the English who burned her at the stake.

In short, Joan was a common-born French teenager who went into battle for her people because she was chosen to fight by a higher power and she ended up dead because she was used as a pawn by people trying to get favors out of her enemies. As far as historical figures go, I honestly can't think of a better parallel for what should have been Marinette's season five struggles. Unfortunately, that's not what season five did, but let's ignore that for now and take a moment to talk about what could have been.

I fact-checked all of the above off of the encyclopedia Britannica, which has a much more extensive article on Joan if you'd like to know more. I kept this pretty high level and tried to focus on the parallels between Marinette and Joan.

Joan & Miraculous

To give you a brief refresher, the episode Reunion is all about Alix’s brother - Jalil - doubting Ladybug due to fear for his sister and the impact of reading anti-Ladybug posts online. These aren’t things that Jalil keeps to himself, either. He reads several of these posts to Marinette’s class while Marinette is present. 

Given that this all happens soon after Marinette had some pretty massive failures, hearing these doubts should affect her. In canon, it doesn’t, she’s too busy lusting after Chat Noir, but let’s pretend for a second that she was affected. That she starts doubting herself and her mission, leading her to confess these doubts to Tikki.

Tikki suggests talking to Alya or Chat Noir, but Marinette isn’t sure about that. She doesn’t think they’ll get it because they don’t share her burden or have any helpful experience. This leads Tikki to think of her former holders which leads to Marinette summoning Joan of Arc. The episode can then progress in a similar fashion to canon  with the akuma happening soon after. This could lead to Marinette fighting Jalil, who is not a truth akuma, but an anti-Ladybug akuma.

We now have Marinette facing her doubts in physical form. She's also being attacked by someone who arguably should have been her ally, but who chose the more powerful side due to doubts and fears. And Marinette is facing all of this while being supported by a historical figure who was killed because she held firm to her cause. A figure who - as you can see above - has a lot in common with Marinette. If you must include Joan of Arc in your story, that's honestly a pretty great setup for bringing her into the show.

And yes, while Joan was a major factor in the French victory, she did die, so there's an argument to be made that she's not the right person to inspire someone who is feeling like all hope is lost, but if that's the case, then don't use Joan of Arc. You cannot wave away her death. It happened. She did not magically escape the flames to go live a love story with your hunky OC.

While I’m still not a fan of claiming that historical figures were miraculous holders, I think I’d be cool with it if they didn’t really touch on the implications of that and instead focused on honoring the history of these figures by using them as a source of inspiration. An alternative way to get around this is to have the miraculous holder be someone who knew the historical figure and helped them, but that's probably too complex for a 20-minute show that is focused on things other than talking about history.

The more I think about Joan’s story and how well it relates to Marinette’s struggles, the more disappointed I am by this squandered opportunity. It could have been such a cool episode! Bonus points if they included some lines about gender presentation because Joan got in big trouble for "dressing like a man."

I just realized the show having so many people break free from being akumatized or just flat out resist it after S3 was likely an attempt to downplay Chloe doing it as nothing really impressive/noteworthy

Like from just using the episodes you reviewed so far, six people excluding Chloe managed to either beeak free or resist it. Including Chloe that number goes up to seven

Don't forget how a majority of those people were already akumatized when they rejected Shadowmoth/Monarch's influence: Alya, Nino, Sabine, Chloe (again), Jalil, Kagami, and A.D.A..

And yet, for some reason, Adrien is physically incapable of rejecting an Akuma himself.

Warning:the story is told in Achronological order. The order of THIS chapter would be around early to mid season three.

Alix didn’t expect to spend her Sunday fighting her brother.

But alas, Hawkmoth seemed to have the power of picking the worst time for everything, so of course her brother got pissy at some guy calling out his piss poor knowledge of Egyptian culture.

“Thoth, give me time!”her brother yelled.

“He’s a scribe you idiot not Chronos!”she screamed”and he’s not a baboon either!…or at least not most of the time.”

Jalil turned to her, taking his attencion off the poor guy who just corrected him about Nefertiti“You all know nothing of the gods!”

“Well clearly “nothing” is more than you, dimwit!”Alix started to run at this point. it’d be better that Jalil target her over anyone else. Hell, she was fast. maybe she could buy Nath or Marc some time to get over here so they could deal with him.

She scrambled for her phone, hastily dialing Marc.

“Hey! Anciel! Get over here!” She yelled into the speaker.

“What is it K-oh shit”they hung up, leaving alix to outrun her brother.

At least she knew her way around.

For about ten minutes, she ran laps around the museum, up until she reached one of the statue exhibits. Which was a dead end. Dammit.

Hey at least Nath or Marc could probably bust her out of those time bubbles, didn’t ladybug do that-…wait, was that statue hollow?

“I have you here…now you will have no choice but be a sacrifice for my Nefertiti!” Oh shit.

“…isn’t sacrifice an Aztec thing-?”

She was interrupted by the sound of running and a scream.

“Alix, Run!” a particular void eyed rooster yelled as they smashed a vase on the Akuma’s head.

“Look at that!”she remarked.

“Book it!”Rooster bold said as they turned around, lifting an old statue and grabbing it as if to use like some kind of bat.

“Be careful with that!”Alix hid behind a few other statues, making sure she wouldn’t waste too much time running from and to the fight scene“Fluff, Clockwise”

She was engulfed in a blue light as she switched quickly changed to her superhero outfit. As soon as the transformation was finished she started running back.

“Bunnix is on the scene!”she yelled out as soon as she was in view”and ready to kick ass!”

“Good,now please help me!”Roo yelled out, nearly dodging a time bubble.

“On it, Roo!”she said,hitting her brother right in the head.

“Ooh!nice shot!”they remarked as they once again hit him with the statue.

The pharaoh didn’t seem to find this too amusing, however, As he broke out of the two’s reach and started booking it to the exit.

“Damn you!I’m gonna go search for Ladybug!”he yelled.

“Yeah go get your ass kicked somewhere else!”Alix yelled back.

He flipped her off, that ba-oh look a bus dropped on him. She saw that from the wreckage arose a certain last member of their team.

“Hi there!”Nath -or Caprikid- said.

“Cap!”Marc smiled.

“Roo!”Caprikid grinned.

“And me!”Bunnix added.

“Horus, give me flight!”the dipshit said, completely disregarding that Horus is a kingship god.

“Genesis!”

…Oh look. another bus. That ought to shut him up for a few more seconds.

“Hey Roo, Genesis!”Caprikid yelled, handing Rooster bold a Crobar before Alix’s brother emerged once again from the bus, immediately getting his face trampled as Caprikid made his way towards the other two heroes.

“You…”Jalil said”you little…ANUBIS, WAKE MY MUMMIES!”

“ITS OSIRIS YOU DUMBASS!”

A giant beam came out as the Akuma sent the two busses flying, nearly hitting Alix.

“Rude”

He turned around, turning random civilians into mummies.

“Double rude, Jackass!”

“Looks like we’ll need to get up on his level.”Caprikid remarked.

“Hey!”Roo screeched, making the pharaoh turn around before promptly getting hit by a flying crowbar, causing the pendant to shatter on impact, releasing the Akuma.

“…or just some plot armor, I guess”

She walked over to him, poking the now normal Jalil in the chest”I think you broke one of his ribs”

“Cool. Didn’t think I could do that”

She glanced over to the Akuma,which was escaping the scene of the crime.

“Oh, no you don’t!”Nath yelled, making his way to the butterfly before snatching it mid air”we’re waiting here till Chat Noir comes in.”

He jumped down, glancing at the unconscious Jalil.

“Should we get the paramedics?”

“Yeah…”

“Probably”

ADRIEN: You know what we should do? Let’s go to Marinette’s house.

(Later, they turn at the bridge in front of the Notre Dame Cathedral.)

MARINETTE: I mean, we could head down to anyone’s house that’s actually finished, you know? Your house, Alya’s, Chloé’s new house...

ADRIEN: True, but then you’d miss this.

(Marinette looks ahead.)

MARINETTE: What the...

(As Alya, Nino, Adrien, Chloé, and a lost-in-shock Marinette approach, workers put the final touches on a refurbished house. It’s Tom and Sabine Boulangerie Patisserie rebuilt and painted like Ladybug. The Miraculous holders walk through a crowd in front of the house. Marinette looks at the tender smiles on her supporters, who edge back to clear a path for her.)

ANDRÉ BOURGEOIS: Marinette Dupain-Cheng, welcome back to Paris.

ADRIEN: Let’s hear it for Marinette Dupain-Cheng!

(The crowd of people erupt into cheering.)

(As Marinette approaches, her eyes go wide and her jaw drops. She turns around to face her supporters, her cheeks reddening.)

(At the front of the people are Chloé, Adrien, Nino, Alya, and the gang. Alya records for the Labyblog, and Sabine fans her eyes with her hands.)

MARINETTE: How did you guys find the time to pull this off? This is why I stayed at Luna-TK’s house, isn’t it?

LUNA-TK: Absolutely.

MARINETTE: There are so many people to thank. My old friends, who put in a lot of effort to get me back. My new friends, who protected me from danger, and stuck my old friends in a cage and abused them.

(The Minions chuckle nervously.)

MARINETTE: But if all of you guys really went through all of this just for me, then what is there to be mad about now?

ADRIEN: (SINGING) Busy few days Stopped a tyranny and kept our town from dying

@a-chlolix-blog said that Chloé and Alix have two kids a daughter and son.

Not sure about Jalil and Mitchell (their OC). May a daughter as well?

I know that there would be a post about Time Slasher and his time travel ability with future related.

Interestingly, his sword give out two energies, (the gems on the edge of it) which will granted him to either reverse or fast forward when time travelling in the wormhole or smth like that.

So if the scenario where he got to the future accidents... Here you go.
