Okay but can you imagine Freddy Krueger trying to terrorize Gen Z.

Because he likes killing in personalized ways. Ways that prey upon fears, which give him power. Sure, there’s the basic nightmare material; trying to run but unable to move or scream, falling, etc; but I doubt that’s enough to emotionally scar someone.

Furthermore, I feel like our tolerance for the macabre has increased over the years; movies have more advanced effects, we have access to entire genres of home brew horror such as VHS tapes and creepypastas.

So imagine Freddy trying to capture the worst fears of young adults now a day. And then it’s stuff like climate change. Being unable to afford living. Losing human rights. A lot of passively suicidal and depressed individuals who aren’t fazed by the thought of dying.

IMAGINE telling your friends, “I had the worst dream last night; I went to get a loan for my house payment and the banker was this really weird dude in a striped sweater and fedora. He denied my loan, and I spent forever arguing with him why I qualified.“

“No way; in my dream there was a guy in a striped sweater too. He just threatened to kill me with his Wolverine knives and he seemed really confused when I wasn’t upset by that. When I told him he’d be doing me favor, he LEFT.”
