House of Wax (2005) Saw this first when I was like 8 and was like "can you actually do that?" And recently researched it(multiple times) I really enjoyed this one, I dont even know why though I just see Brian Van Holt and I'm like :), Vincent has really cool looking knives, the small amount of backstory you have is let's you imagine how badly the Sinclairs were raised and I always kinda feel like :( it's not their fault they were raised like that. Husk (2010) I watched this when it came out when I was 10 and I really enjoyed it then and enjoyed it again now, again you get little snippets of backstory through out and im like ah yes, revenge ghosts, we have to stan.

My thoughts on Hellfest (which no one asked for but I’m giving anyway):

So last year at around Halloween, my sister and I went and saw the film Hellfest. While I thought it was an all around effective and engaging slasher movie, I felt like it was lacking in a very serious and important department-

The killer.

Now if you know me even a little, you’ll know I’m a slut for a good movie monster and/or slasher killer. While The Other was an intimidating presence, he lacked just that. Presence! He was just some dad guy in a hoodie and a lame mask.

You want your villain to be iconic and horrifying, not some cheap dollar store teenager’s last minute Halloween party costume!!

When I see Jason Vorhees it Freddy Krueger, I think “oh no, it’s Jason/Freddy!” I know what they’re capable of and I know their characters, but when I look at The Other, all I think is “oh no, it’s that... guy.... with the mask....?”

Look, I’m not saying make him over the top and zany like the Leprechaun or stupidly iconic like the Evil Bong or the Gingerbread Man, I’m just saying give him a little more thought.

A good example to me is Art the Clown from Terrorizer. Art is a simple black and white clown, but his gross giant lips and weird angular face makes him stand out enough to where he’s recognizable and you know this dude is absolutely up to no good. And as I’ve previously stated, when I look at The Other, I just see “last minute costume to where to this horror theme park”.
