I've been revisiting Mexican Gothic, and have once again drawn Noemi and Francis different than I did before. Fun fact the free cemetery image I used for the background had a grave with the name Francis on it. So that was fun and not morbid. Mist free version bellow the cut.

Illustration I made after reading Mexican Gothic, an excellent gothic romance set in Mexico (my country). Guys, I cannot state how much I love gothic settings, old houses, terrible people and also I LOVE MUSHROOMS (which are one of the focal themes of the plot). I actually got creeped out a couple of times with the book (not because of the “paranormal” stuff but because there are some horrible characters that gave me the chills), I love how unhinged it gets at times.

As much as I love Cordelia, I can't deny that I'm sad we didn't get to see the AU in which she doesn't come work for Angel so it's Angel who Doyle falls in love with. I'd have been happy with just one episode in which we're shown their romance. But alas.

And then Angel eventually ends up pointing out that apparently the fifth romance language is Romanian, before going off to do hero stuff.
Anyway, I just love this whole ridiculous conversation with Cordy, Doyle, and Angel... mainly Cordy and Doyle.
Edit: Cordy and Doyle start talking about this, because on TV there's this popular TV show about this vampire girl (which the plot of this book is about. People are trying to kill her in thinking she's a real vampire and AI eventually is called in to try and protect her), and Cordy and Doyle can't get over how it gets so much wrong about vampires and they think they could of course make a show much better.

Why... why would they have a character on a new show for only 9 episodes like why spend the time establishing him for 9 episodes?
And the end is so sad and I'm just like ok? He was cool I guess not quiet credits material

Note
as the local expert on unsettling or pathetic men: ewan mitchell as francis doyle in the mexican gothic miniseries. is that anything.
Thank you for the endorsement on my expertise I guess? But now that you mention it I think I could see it! It's been ages since I read Mexican Gothic but I seem to remember Francis being described as being very pale and handsome but not in a super conventional way, and I feel like Ewan Mitchell fits the bill. Admittedly, I have only seen him in roles where he's creepy and intimidating and Francis is basically the polar opposite of that, but I think like he does look right and I have heard that he has played a nice character at least once in The Last Kingdom so I bet he would be a great Francis.
