Solar Flare: No, you just commit crimes instead.

Moon: You got me there. But still. Sunny literally went out for ice cream and hasn’t come back for three hours now since I started my patrol. It’s quite funny, honestly.

Lunar: Making loud noises. Yeah, it’s a game to see how loud you can be and Mini was winning. We played for two and a half hours and Mini still won.

Sun: Finally, I can stop hiding in Gator Golf.

Doomed Dysfunctional Polycule

A is a soldier in a war between multiple factions. He enters a bunker with an older man he fancies from an opposing army, B, and finds himself imprisoned within. B forces A's hand in remotely choosing targets to attack, and he carpet bombs a bluff, killing one soldier and wounding another. The wounded soldier turns out to be C, A's ex-wife. She stumbles into the bunker, and is imprisoned as well. Tensions between A and C are still high, so B builds separate rooms for the two. In order to escape, A sacrifices himself by setting of a large explosive, freeing C, but opening a hole into the ocean. As the bunker floods, C and B are facing off, only for a bomb to get launched in the now open bunker by an ally of the soldier killed in A's carpet bomb attack.The two of them are knocked into the ocean where they meet their watery fate.

They're brothers. Each thinks it's his responsibility to protect the other, but also looks up to and resents him for being what he can't. They care for each other but both see the other's concern as being looked down on.

A is serious, rule-following, a prodigy from years of hard work; seemingly perfect but hiding the cracks under pressure. He deeply hates himself for his percieved weakness, especially compared to his brother. B is hotheaded but kind, talented but undisciplined. He wants his brother's acceptance and approval, to be seen as an equal, but A dismisses him. This is partly to keep B out of danger and partly out of A's envy and insecurity.

While B struggles to accept himself, A slowly breaks down, almost kills himself multiple times, and joins a cult. B is shocked to find out how A views himself and says he always thought A was perfect. A thinks, to him, B was the perfect one. A shoots him. B lives. When they reunite, they beat the shit out of each other and call each other out for hiding their struggles. B tells A he wants him to keep living and B is only strong because of A. A finally accepts that people love him and says he's strong because of B. Their journey's not over, but now they can move forward together.

Santa is real. His flying Reindeer are real and people shouldn't just be giving cookies to Santa. Reindeer are also tired and working hard to haul all of those presents for hours on end. Kabu was fond of the Christmas festivities and any kid that told him Santa was real was right. Even if he may disagree.

It was a cold day. His shoes marked the snow as he made his way to his home. He wasn't far which is why he did not want to use a Flying Taxi. He was relieved that the day was finally reaching an end and he could see you. He has never been more ready to greet you at home, lay with you under a blanket, and feel your warm body against his.

You had gone to the store to pick up ingredients for one thing you loved to do. Cookies for Santa and food for the Reindeer, your age didn't matter when it came to believing something. Even if you're told Santa is not real, he is the spirit and cheer of Christmas so they're wrong. Santa is real. You had what you needed, you paid for it, and you went home to tell Kabu what you two were doing tonight.

"We are making Reindeer food," You said this while taking out some sugar crystals and raw oats. Kabu was confused to say the least.

Is he going to reject the idea? Absolutely not. If you want to make food for the Reindeer then that's what they're doing. You appeared very excited by this and the happiness it brought you was more than enough reason to help you make them. Granted all he wanted after the long day was to lay down, but being with you was much more appealing.

"We're making Reindeer food," He confirmed. You smiled at his response and gave him the motivation he needed to help you.

"Yes, but can you actually start on the cookies for Santa. I'll mix the oats over here." You were working on the counter behind him and he nodded. There was a peaceful silence settled in the kitchen, this was still relaxing. He turned to ask you a question, but you had your hand over his head, dropping colorful sugar crystals on his hair.

"You are going to get coal in your stocking," He says as a warning. "There is only one way for certain that will save you from that fate."

"And you know this because...?" You were too slow to realize he was grabbing batter on a spoon and managed to get some on your nose.

"I know the real Santa personally because I dress up as him every year, I assumed that was crystal clear." You could hear the humor laced tone he said that with.

"Well, I think you're also getting coal this year. I don't think putting batter on someone's face is very nice!" You started mixing your ingredients together into a bowl and Kabu was getting ready to place the cookies in the oven.

"I have a 'get out of the naughty list free' card." He leaned against the counter behind him as he watched you finish what you were doing.

"I didn't realize those existed, how can I get one?" You placed the sparkling oats with sugar and carrots in a little bag decorated with Christmas colors. You turned around then knocked your head against the cupboard behind you, startled by how close Kabu was to you.

His eyes widened for a moment before he had to press his lips together into a line to hold back laughing. "Are you alr— That is a dumb question, let me grab the ice pack, darling."

You burst out laughing at what bad happened, even though it hurt a lot. You held the back of your head as you shook your head grinning widely. Kabu was doing the same thing as he rummaged through the freezer for an ice pack.

"This is all your fault, your card ain't working for this, Kabu." He came back with the pack and placed it where you had hit yourself. His other hand was moving up and down your arm comfortingly.

"You could also be more aware of your surroundings," He retorted. You decided to ignore him and lay your forehead against his chest. Kabu then wrapped an arm around you and held you there.

"I disagree."

"Did you finish the Reindeer food? I can set it up with the cookies for you," He offers, but you shake your head.

"Let's do that together."

You held the ice pack now and grabbed your bag of pretty Reindeer food. You placed it next to Kabu's surprisingly adorable cookies and stared at it, pleased with how it turned out.

"I'm glad we got to do this together."

"Me too," Kabu responds, kissing your forehead and pulling you closer to him on the couch. You two had fallen asleep there, arms wrapped around each other tightly.

Leslie Caron in AN AMERICAN IN PARIS and GIGI by Susan King

Hollywood studios were going through a maelstrom of changes in in the 1950s with the loss of audiences to television. To combat Uncle Miltie and I Love Lucy, studios introduced such innovations as CinemaScope, stereophonic sound and 3D and MGM released two sumptuous musicals from the studio’s top musical producer, Arthur Freed, and top musical director, Vincente Minnelli: 1951’s AN AMERICAN IN PARIS and 1958’s GIGI. An American in Paris ended up taking home six Oscars beating out the likes of A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE and A PLACE IN THE SUN for the top Academy Award and GIGI won nine Oscars. Besides best film, GIGI also won in such categories as best director, song, screenplay, cinematographer, scoring and costume design.

Both films also starred Leslie Caron, one of the studio’s last major contract players, who was plucked as a teenager by AN AMERICAN IN PARIS star and choreographer Gene Kelly from the Paris ballet world. Patricia Ward Kelly, the widow of Gene Kelly, told me in a 2017 L.A. Times interview, that there had been many rumors about who would play Lise, the beautiful young Parisian woman who becomes the object of the affection for a former World War II G.I., now a painter in the City of Light.

For years, it was thought that Cyd Charisse had originally been cast but had to leave because she was pregnant.

“Gene tested two women,” said Patricia Kelly. “Odile Versois and Leslie Caron.”

Kelly was in Paris in 1948 and saw Caron as the Sphinx in La recontre at the Les Ballets des Champs-Élysées. He was so enchanted he went back stage to meet her, but the young woman had gone home to bed.

“I didn’t know about this ritual of waiting in your dressing room for people to come and shake your hands and say ‘Marvelous, darling,”’ Caron told me in a 2002 L.A Times interview.

She also didn’t have a clue who Kelly was. A year later, she met him at the Hotel George V. “He made me read a little bit and said ‘Tomorrow, let’s make a test.’ I can’t say I was dying to become a movie star. It wasn’t in my plans. Then one day there was a phone call.” And she shortly found herself in Hollywood. “I was sad to leave my friends at the ballet,” Caron confessed.”

The highlight of AN AMERICAN IN PARIS, which featured the classic standards of George and Ira Gershwin, is the innovative, groundbreaking 17 ½ minute ballet set to George Gershwin’s jazz inspired orchestral piece.

Caron, who was battling from mononucleosis during the film, remembered that the rehearsal period for the ballet lasted six weeks. “We had a whole ballet company put together,” she said. “We had a ballet master who would come in the morning and to class. The whole film took eight months to film.”

By the time she reunited with Minnelli for GIGI, Caron was a major star who had earned a best actress Oscar nomination for 1953’s Lili.

Considered MGM’s last great musical, GIGI is based on the 1944 story by Collette and is the story of a young Parisian courtesan-in-training whose friendship with a handsome playboy (Louis Jourdan) transforms into love.

Maurice Chevalier and Hermione Gingold also star in the film that features an exquisite score from Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe including the Oscar-winning title tune, “The Night They Invented Champagne” and “I Remember It Well.” But, let’s face it. In the #MeToo era, having foxy grandpa Chevalier singing “Thank Heaven for Little Girls” has taken on new meaning.

Caron adored Minnelli. “He called me ‘Angel’ and that was enough,” she said. “He was so sensitive and had such an elegance and rhythm.”

Though the interiors were shot at MGM studios, exteriors were shot in Paris during the summer of 1957. Unfortunately, the weather wreaked havoc with production. “We were working a lot at the ice rink and at Maxim’s and the entrances and exits of quite a lot of remarkable buildings,” Caron said “But it was extremely slow because we had to deal with a lot of rain. Sometimes, we only had one take. At the same time, there was rain, there was also a heat wave. Everybody caught colds.”
