GMMTV 2024 Part 1 Stray Thoughts

I have finished viewing the trailers. I'm feeling relatively cool about most of it, and I had a strong negative reaction to the announcements about two adaptations.

Here is what intrigued me in order:

My Golden Blood - When Joss and Mond rose off the ground, I also ascended. Joss and Gawin wasn't on my radar as a potential option, but I am so here for it.

Wadee Gooday - I'm so here for the adult romance, and Thor is here. A boxer and a doctor have such fascinating potential.

The Trainee - OffGun workplace romance and Love Score is playing. We are so fucking back.

On Sale - TayNew in a ghost romcom? We are so fucking back.

Pluto - Film and Namtam and Namtam is lying? I am here for it.

Kidnap - Ohm is back in BL and they gave him a gun and a little brother who shares his name. This is probably gonna be a mess but it looks fun.

Only Boo - Not sure how I feel about an idol trainee show, but Louis is here.

We Are - Why are there four couples? Engineering? Hopefully, this is going to be like MSP, and let us put this behind us.

High School Frenemy - I will have to watch School 2013 before this airs because it looks like the original was well-received and this trailer just looks like boys fighting the whole time.

My Love Mix-Up - Fourth doesn't seem to do slapstick well in this trailer, and Gem doesn't look serious enough. New Hashimoto doesn't have that glint in her eye. New Aida looks solid. I'm skeptical. More thoughts below.

Ossan's Love - Literally why?

Summer Night - Phuwin and Dunk pratfall kiss bait into het nonsense with a BL side. No thanks.

My Precious the series - I feel like any hype I had for this has evaporated. I'm past it.

Ploy's Yearbook - Apparently step-siblings fall for each other in this? No thanks.

Enigma 2 - No idea what's going on but it has clear vibes.

Alright, I'm just gonna say it: The My Love Mix-Up trailer was not good. I love Fourth and Gemini a lot. I think Fourth is really talented, and I think he and Gemini make a good team. That being said, there is a reason KH continues to get content shared on this website, and right now I don't think Fourth and Gem showed the juice to match Michieda Shunsuke and Meguro Ren.

I don't think Fourth is going to generate meme material as Thai Aoki the way Michieda did if this trailer is indicative of where he's going. I don't think Gemini is hitting the seriousness of Ida well here at all. Ida is a demisexual icon and so important to the genre, and I just don't think Gemini has this in him right now.

For those wondering why I feel so strongly about this, I will remind you that Kieta Hatsukoi is free on Viki.

We are now seeing cross-cultural adaptations of BL work, and I think that it's incredibly important to view the source work before we get into big discussions about what each adaptation does well. I am so concerned about Kieta Hatsukoi being adapted because it's so distinctly Japanese in its stylings and the dramatic tension underpinning it. The Thai trailer feels lacking to me because the angst felt so ungrounded. Fourth can moon over Gemini just fine, but there's a specificity to the mooning that he just isn't hitting here.

I will be talking about My Love Mix-Up Thailand as an adaptation of Kieta Hatsukoi. I will not be entertaining debates or discussions about it as an independent work. The trailer has called directly to the Japanese origins and it will be judged as such. If you haven't or won't watch the original or read the source work, please don't tag me, because "I'm mad as hell, and I'm not going to take this anymore."

GMMTV 2024 part 1

My thoughts on the trailers (from what I can remember and from some dms I shouted to @grapejuicegay two nights ago...and which I also did last year as well - that was interesting to read again!) and in order of preference/excitement about its potential:

Pluto has to be top of my list because not only WOMEN but WOMEN KISSING OTHER WOMEN. I'm a little confused on the story (like most people it seems) but I'm here for a little mystery. I just hope we don't get a repeat of 'one twin being awoken from a coma by the other twin having sex'...or maybe I do.

Of course Ploy's Yearbook is second because, again, WOMEN. But also JIMMY! And Joong and Mond! I don't even mind the 'adopted siblings' thing, because in my mind the adoption is a recent thing and they haven't grown up together (watch me be wrong). Anyway, here for the ladies not for the story.

How could I not put My Precious the Series in third spot with Nanon (and Film)?! Not only are these two adorable together but HOW has Nanon managed to look SO YOUNG here? (At 22 I know he's still young but he looks even younger). I guess the plot is a simple teenage friend group lovestory but I don't care, I'd watch Nanon in just about anything. (Ooo, and Fon [10 Yrs Ticket] is co-directing!)

Whether Peaceful Property is a bl or not I am signed the f up. This trailer was the best to be honest. It was like a refreshing slap in the face and I would have set it top if it hadn't been for The Women and Nanon. Spooky hijinks? Absolutely. Found family? I'm eating that shit up. Jan being kooky? More more! New in a more domineering role than Tay? Yes please. This was basically me:

I'm sort of 80% believing/trusting that Kidnap is a BL, not that that's the only reason I'll be seated for it. No, I'm here for Ohm. Now, I did say that about him last year in Double Savage and then I couldn't get past ep 3 (even though I had said I couldn't wait to see him in something heavy and dramatic...the intergenerational trauma was just too much for me) but I have high hopes for this one. And I'm intrigued as to why they've put such a newbie (Leng) opposite such an experienced actor (and someone SO experienced with bl series), so I'm thinking they will either use that difference in the plot, OR they know Leng is just That Good, OR he's a 'placeholder' for another actor who will be recast in the role. We'll see if I'm right. (Also, it's directed by Noom [Midnight Museum]...)

What's not to love about The Trainee? (apart from the fact that we haven't even had Cooking Crush yet so how am I supposed to get excited over another Gun/Off show?!?). We get Off and Gun again, and then there's Sea...and a possible GL side couple??? And it's not set in a school/uni!! Let's see how different it will be to ABAAB...

At first I was a little disappointed to see that GMMTV was doing a My Love Mix-Up! remake, even with Fourth and Gemini (whom I love) and Au directing (MSP and BBS), because I would have preferred to see them in something new, maybe something meatier (having seen what they could do in Moonlight Chicken), but I guess I don't mind. It will be interesting to see how Thailand approaches this story and if they can do the nuance of the exploration of sexuality as well as the original.

I'm excited for Wandee Goodday mainly to see Great again but Inn also looks good. This is an interesting pairing, and I love some of the side characters. The main reason it's not higher up the list is because I'm not a fan of boxing, but I'm definitely here for the friends-with-benefits to fake-dating shenanigans. Oh and for Golf (The Eclipse) directing.

What can I say about My Golden Blood that hasn't already been said?! Gawin in another BL! And with Joss! And Mond again! And it's about VAMPIRES! Signed and sealed. Give it to me. (Also, it's the same director as Shadow: Ark).

We Are looks cute, and it's nice to see all the couples again but the trailer didn't wow me. Having said that, it'll probably end up being my favourite or something knowing me 😂

The main thing I'm looking forward to with Only Boo! is to see Louis and Aun (and maybe the other two but I don't know them) killing it with the dancing (unfortunately there'll probably also be singing). I mean, look at this. Show me what you've got Louis!

I'm not really feeling Summer Night at all to be honest. And they used the ost for UMG at the end which threw me as well. I'll see what the real trailer looks like and decide whether to watch it then...but my hunch is I won't.

High School Frenemy had FAR too much fighting in it and I'm not sure if I'll watch this one. It seems like it should be a bl but I don't think it will be (I am fighting the urge to read up on the Korean original). BUT I might show up for these three...as well as View, Est, Mark, Mark, Prom, and AJ AND JJ (my beloveds). I'm warning the show, though, it had BETTER have a DAMN GOOD REASON why Shin won't forgive Saint. (I've just seen it's directed by Fon, so that's giving me more hope).

I'm really really hesitant about Ossan's Love Thailand and it's not because I know the original (because I don't) but mainly because I've never felt inclined to see the original because of one of the age gaps. I'm usually fine with age gaps but this one just feels icky. I wonder what they'll do with the Thai version...but it's directed by Au, so I'll probably watch it (and because it's Earth/Mix - duh), but I might not do the whole comparison with the original thing.

And lastly The Interest (Movie Trailer #2) and Enigma 2 which I doubt I will watch. The former is a movie, so I don't know if it'll get an international release, and the latter is a sequel and I haven't seen the first series...and probably won't unless someone gives me good reason to otherwise.

i saw a comment from somebody on facebook who said that gemini norawit said on his instagram that my love mix-up is going to be the last series he's going to do a ship with fourth nattawat because he wants to focus on doing a straight ship with, who we're all assuming is, prim chanikarn, since they're starring in the dark dice together. but the whole issue with this is that i can't find anywhere on his instagram that he said this so i can't say how credible the factoid actually is.

buuut~ looking back on it, how gemini portrays his characters when shipped with fourth, i feel like... fourth carries the weight of the majority of their on screen chemistry. gemini mostly looks really awkward showing romantic feelings for fourth's characters. even when doing fan service, he seems to be a bit more on the awkward side and pulls away or dodges fourth's advances. he could totally just be playing into this shy persona but i still feel like gemini doesn't feel entirely comfortable in his ship or maybe portraying queer characters - now that's not to say he isn't queer in some form or at least an ally, he is what he is and that's nobody's business but his own.

i guess i just hope that gemini doesn't feel awkward portraying a character in a queer relationship and that's just his style of acting. time will tell when this new series comes out and we see how he acts paired with a girl in comparison.

first of all, i’ve never seen gem say that mlmu is his last project ever with fourth so if you ever find the source of that info pls lmk!! i do remember him saying in an interview that he would like to do a series with a straight ship because he had already acted with a boy, so now he wants to act with a girl (what an incredibly bisexual statement LOL) but i didn’t take that as him saying he didn’t want to do bl anymore.

it has honestly never crossed my mind that geminifourth might divorce soon. to me, their gmmtv’s latest It Boys yaknow. it makes sense to me that they would lead other series separately so gmmtv can take advantage of their massive fandom and individual popularity but i still expect them to work together in the future. also. gemfourth are besties, they have a lot of fun working and playing together, and they flirt all the time whether they’re promoting a series or not hahaha. like yes their dynamic is definitely We Are Best Friends I Love You My Bro but that's typical of gmmtv pairs, and they're still having fun being an established pairing.

i believe we're in an era where actors in branded couples can do separate projects and then come back and do bl. i know with past divorced gmmtv couples like BW or ON, that's not the case, but those are specific circumstances. i mean...we're getting a kristsingto bl in the next year, honestly anything is possible.

personally, i’ve never felt that gemini was uncomfortable acting as queer characters or being in romantic scenes with fourth. in general, fourth is more experienced and more comfortable as an actor than gemini is. we know that fourth was probably gemini's first kiss ever and that gemini was really shy during msp because he has never been in a relationship before, i think some of his "discomfort" can be explained by that. i also just think gem has only ever played awkward/inexperienced characters, like his awkwardness or nervousness makes sense to me as heart or as tinn.

there are actors out there who have been ashamed of or uncomfortable working in bl, and obviously there's a lot of nuance within that topic, but to me, gemini doesn't align at all with those attitudes. i agree that at times, gem can be shy doing fanservice, but like you said, he's playing into that shy personality to match fourth's boldness and to be fair, fourth is VERY affectionate and likes to tease and surprise gemini. there are lots of times where we can see gem being affectionate with fourth (and with other male actors), and it seems like he really enjoys and values working with fourth and being in bl series.

at the end of the day, gemini is still so young and it's very early in his career. we haven't seen him acting at all outside of his bl roles and he overall doesn't have much experience as an actor yet—i think he's very much still finding his feet, so it's not really fair to make generalizations about his acting style. i personally think gem is a lovely actor, his portrayals of tinn and heart mean a lot to me, and his chemistry with fourth is great. i would be interested in hearing back about your thoughts during/post-mlmu and when gem's future projects are released ^__^

this post will include major spoilers for My School President and Moonlight chicken, and sort of spoilers for Bad Buddy (I make a comparison). I also did not proofread this and wrote it all in one go without sleeping for a very long time so be warned.

Hello and welcome to me trying to articulate how and why I love every single detail of the My school President finale without sounding insane. This is going to be long so buckle in.

We'll start strong with the obvious which is their first kiss. We waited eleven episodes for them to kiss. They had all these super romantic moments, teasing us with the possibility of a kiss only for it to never happen UNTIL episode 12, the finale, when it happens without any notice, shocking myself and probably everyone else. It was unlike GMMTV's style who usually save the first kiss scene for some dramatic rooftop or beach. All that build up just for a brief peck for their first kiss? Perfection. It was so perfect for their dynamic and for the theme of the show itself. Think of all the things this show carries. First love, high school, dreams, friendship, romance. It's always been more on the innocent side, definitely the other side of the coin that is Never Let Me Go, another GMMTV BL that aired at the same time, with the same aged characters but with an entirely different vibe. That vibe, however, is what made this show really work. Because although it overall came off as innocent, it used that appearance to talk about some deeper things. But, I'll get to that later. Back to the kiss. GMMTV were truly genius for doing it the way they did. A lot of us were even convinced that they weren't going to kiss at all, especially after the scene in MoonLight Chicken from an episode aired only a day before the finale of My School President. The actors for Tin and Gunn, Gemini and Fourth, play characters in that show as well and in this episode they had their very first kiss together however due to camera angles we don't actually see it. That led us to beileve maybe these two actors just wouldn't be kissing in any of their shows, or at least not yet. So we went in to the finale either thinking they wouldn't kiss at all, or expecting a dramatic first kiss and we got neither. It was truly genius. And, as I said before it perfectly fit the theme of the show. It was exactly the style we've come to expect and love from TinGunn. Really fucking cute, for lack of better words. It also suited them because no matter how much those two managed to flirt, they still both were often awkward and flustered around each other so their first kiss being brief and in such a sudden moment fit them really well. It really was just so perfect. We didn't even need anything more in my opinion, but we got it anyways when later in the episode they do kiss more. Overall, it was really something that stood out to me and I loved how it ended up playing out. Physical touch has always been such a big part of TinnGun's relationship and development, and this was really just the pinnacle.

The Prom MV. The PROM MV. A small scene, hardly important to the story right? WRONG. The Prom MV not only provided us with some much appreciated jealous Gun which we love and missed from around ep 6 or 7 I beileve when he tares Tinn away from some girls who were flirting with him (before they had even admitted their feelings to each other I might add) but it also was a very sly method from GMMTV to insert some social commentary, something they've loved doing ever since Not Me. Tiw, apologizes to Tinn and Gun, telling them he asked for the MV to have a "BL" couple but they refused. They go on to show that Tinn's Co-star in the MV has a girlfriend, watching her on the side lines much like Gun is watching Tinn. This implies that the school board had unknowingly put into action an MV starring a gay man and a lesbian (assumed, not confirmed) playing a couple. All of this speaks volumes towards heteronormativity and gender roles and how society, specifically Thailand society in this case, but also everywhere, sees queer people. They'd rather place together a man and a woman who have zero attraction to each other than a man and a man or a woman and a woman who do. Although the message itself was serious, GMMTV still kept it light for the theme of the show, having Gun be jealous of Tinn and the girl in the MV, even pinching Tiw and telling him to yell cut, a detail we all loved. That's one thing that I really admired as I briefly mentioned earlier. The way they were able to insert more serious themes into the show without moving too far from the overall innocent and light hearted vibe.

That being said, GMMTV did let it get serious sometimes, in a way that was very well done. Besides the finale, they had plotlines that cast a more darker tone to the series, such as Gun struggling with feelings of self worth, and failure and his mother getting sick. I won't touch on that much, as I'm trying to focus on the finale here. For the finale, they had a very important scene where Tinn and Gun overhear two of their teachers saying bad things about them, regarding their relationship. This is what we can assume to be both of their times first experiencing strong homophobia directly. For it to come from a teacher as well, one they had respected was incredibly difficult. They don't sugarcoat this part of the episode. They don't give the teacher a redemption arc. Throughout the scene, the teacher holds their views and is shown as what some people are, simply just assholes. This was so important to the series, and important to the show overall, for the message and for the characters. Through this scene we get to see several different characters and their own reactions to Tinn and Gun, theirs being positive. Tinn's junior in his club as well as his mother both stand up foe them against the teacher. It's an emotional scene (that might have made me cry) and really shows you two sides to a very real and much bigger picture. Some people will only be filled with hate, and it can come from anyone. Even someone we trust. But among the hate there will always be those who will stay by your side, and some might surprise you. It's important to stand up for yourself and for whoever you love, to be proud of yourself and not to listen to anyone who tells you to be anything other than what you are. It was a beautiful and very important message and lesson for TinnGun and for us viewers.

Okay, enough being serious for a sec. Now we are going to discuss some of the smaller cuter details I appreciated. Gun officially meeting Tinn's parents as his boyfriend and the dynamic between them matching the already developed characters types of the parents. Tinn's dad being open and friendly, excitingly sharing his shared interest in music with Gun. Gun calling him dad and being nervous but comfortable around him. Tinn's mom telling Gun to call her Aunt instead of mom and her husband teasing her for it. Her staying somewhat distant from the situation yet letting things progress naturally and standing by when she usually would have interfered. It showed great character growth on her part, beyond of course what already occurred with her choosing her son over her career (We'll talk more about that later)

Let's talk about Prom. One thing I liked a lot is how Gun pulled Tinn on stage. It wasn't just romantic and very cute, but it was significant to Tinn and his development. If we look back to episode, 4 or 5 I think? Tinn tells Gun that his worst memory is when as a kid he was meant to sing on stage but forgot the lyrics. He'd been too afraid to sing since. He does sing, however in a previous episode with Gun on stage to support him when he was tired. That already showed how his love for Gun could overpower any previous fear he'd had and make himself stronger and more brave. This scene continues that theme and is important also for the fact that Tinn's mom was there to witness it. In a previous episode when she asks Gun about Tinn she found out that Tinn had sung with Gun and she is surprised. Showing again that Tinn didn't tell her things, or share things with her, much like he never shared with her his crush on Gun. But with this scene, she is there to see it herself. Tinn on stage, quietly singing along with his boyfriend. She's seeing the side to him she never was able to see, one she is finally able to see because she stopped being scared and opener herself up to getting to know her son beyond what she wanted from him.

And here comes, what I mentioned earlier. This very same scene, there is once again some discourse among the teachers about Tinn and Gun's relationship. As was shown and said earlier, she'd been put in a tough position as soon as the pictures of the two had spread, getting calls and complaints from others about the "image" it was giving the school she worked so hard to run. It's made clear from episode one how important it is to her to run the school and maintain what she worked so hard to get. However, in this episode she chooses her son. Not only does she choose her son, but she chooses her morals. We don't see the woman who denied our favorite high school band to perform again and again, but instead we see the woman who wants to run a school where her son, and anyone, can love who they want. I really enjoyed seeing that character development from her, although to me it seems it was always there. It wasn't entirely her that changed, but our perception of her and Tinn's perception of her and I think that was a really smart move on the part of the writers.

One smaller detail I want to mention is the scene where the Chinzilla members are all waiting together to find out their college/future plan results. The scene was much like one from a previous episode, when they waited to find out the winner of the contestant they had tried so hard to be. In the previous scene they are all met with disappointment. It's a very important moment for all of them and continues to follow the theme of youth and dreams. In that case, their dream didn't come true. In life, that is often the case. We don't always get what we want no matter how hard we try. That taught a tough lesson. However, in this later scene they follow that up with a positive tone. Gun finds that he was accepted and the group hugs and celebrates. It's a direct contrast to their previous disappointment and it really gave such a nice, although possibly corny message that you should never give up on your dreams and even if something doesn't work out, there's ways something else that will.

This next one I usually never ever talk about because I don't like it, so the fact that I'm not only okay with bringing it up, but okay that it even happened speaks wonders about how highly I thought of this finale. TinnGun versus GunTinn. I hate this. Like really really hate whenever this is brought up in a BL. It's stupid and it always opens up room for what we all know is a very real issue in the consumption of mlm media. Fetishization. You aren't truly a BL fan until you've been made very uncomfortable by someone discussing which of your favorite characters… yeah. So whenever this is brought up in a BL, even in a joking manner, I hate it. But I just couldn't hate it this time. Because once again, they did it so well. As usual, it was brought up by other people. Their classmates' curiosity and rather selfish need to pry into their business (in my opinion) brought up the subject. But it didn't result in anything weird, for lack of a better word. In fact it was sweet and even funny. It perfectly fit Tinn and Gun, and did show a little bit more of maturity on their part since the show has maintained a rather innocent feel around their relationship. Gun doesn't even know what the order means and Tinn has to tell him. He whispers it to him right there in the hallway and it's the cutest fucking thing. And instead of awkwardness or toxic arguments (I'm looking at you, My Engineer) it turned into teasing and gave the entire argument I've grown so tired of from BL, a light hearted tone. For once, I didn't feel uncomfortable or like they were making it some weird reference to the sick interest of fans (too harsh? Maybe. But idc) but it really felt like it was about TinnGun and their dynamic and it was just really fucking cute, there's no other way to describe it. What is also good about it, is often when BL do have that argument they will reveal which way it is one way or another, and it's just such a weird thing that they feel the need to do that. If it's a scene where they are like actually showing it, fine whatever I guess. but when they talk about it after the fact and make a point of making it clear what happened is so weird to me. Even Bad Buddy did that. I hated that scene in Bad Buddy. It took away some of my enjoyment from the show. My point is, MSP didn't do that and I appreciated that. Because it really doesn't matter, so shut the fuck up and srop being weird and trying to force gender roles on gay relationships.

Those were my main points but there are so many more details I could discuss. A lot of the focus being on Gun and his friends rather than the whole episode being about TinnGun and how important that is to Gun's character and to the show. How their support for Gun when the photos appeared online was a huge deal.

All the small references to previous events such as Tinn's dad buying a new guitar after Tinn gave Gun hid and Gun almost revealing it to him on accident. It gave such small and not entirely necessary, but very cute and funny background on previous events, tying it all together. These details also really helped the series to feel more full and real. A living and breathing story, rather than words on a script.

The entire series and especially that finale was just so well done and I can't believe such amazing work came from a silly little romance about a singer and his school president boyfriend. Except I can, because that silly little vibe is exactly how it was able to create something like this. I'm so grateful for this series and I'm so so so so sad to see it end but the end truly was perfect.

Kotonari - a sequel to Keiyaku

AN: Hello! I’ve been wrestling with this first chapter for probably a week. If you haven’t read Keiyaku – stop. The entire plot of Keiyaku will be spoiled within this first chapter and that will make you sad. Just surf the #vegebul au tag on my blog to find the Keiyaku master post and happy reading. If you enjoyed Keiyaku, hooray! Since I’m not writing this for a smutfest, not every chapter will contain sex scenes this time – womp womp – but this story will be explicit.

 Chapter One – Birth

 Part One:

 “There’s one thing,” Vegeta began, addressing his father over the shogi board, “that I never understood.”

The king snorted. “Just one? I could list the things you don’t understand, given time and the appropriate length of writing paper.”

Tiles snapped against the board and Vegeta clicked his teeth, his trademark response when no biting remark came to mind. “Tch. About the fasting, I mean.”

“Well, my son, when a male and a female feel a deep bond –“

“Were you always this sarcastic?”

The king laughed. “What is this ‘one thing?”

“Before Bulma arrived, you were so insistant that I find a woman to fast. Insistent to the point of threatening me, to the point of desperation. That day,” Vegeta recalled, snapping another tile down, “you seemed almost afraid of some… consequence if I did not choose a partner immediately.”

“Mm. I was not afraid.”

“Your eyes were afraid.”

“Vegeta, I was not afraid. But. If I were afraid, what do you suspect the cause of that fear to have been? Have you ever known your King, your father, to fear anything?”

Vegeta played a tile more, and his father took his turn languidly. Had he ever known his father to show fear? What did a King with a Kingdom undisputed ever fear? Vegeta turned the thought over and over in his mind.

A tile snapped against the board.

“I will tell you, I fear one thing, son.”

Vegeta’s hand dropped.

“There is yet one foe in this world I fear. It is not disease or death, or any such abstract concept. I will embrace my death when it comes and I will fight any disease like I would any man – ruthlessly. It is a person. Can you fathom who it might be?”

Vegeta played his tile as his mother swept into the room. She was speaking to several attendants about her plans for the day and important meetings she must take, about Bulma’s doctor arriving soon and reminding her ladies-in-waiting that she must be informed the very second that doctor arrived. She broke off her stream of directions and demands to cross over to her husband and son.

She draped herself over the King’s broad left shoulder, lazily surveying the board. “You’re losing, my King.”

“I am aware, Pea,” he said mirthlessly, but kissing her hand before giving it a squeeze and letting it drop again.

Queen Pea reached over her husband and snapped a tile over her son’s king piece. “Match.”

Both the King and the Prince dropped their jaws – neither had seen the winning move staring them in the face. Prince Vegeta had thought he was toying with his father – victory assured – but had stepped into a trap the King hadn’t even intended to set.

The queen sashayed away, back to her attendants to continue an endless stream of duties, as the men continued to puzzle.

“And now you know,” the King began, “the identity of the one and only person in this universe who I fear.”

“Mother?”

“The queen had not been pleased with your long absence, nor with the death of your brother, for at least a full sun cycle before you came home. She was ready to go out into the stars to find and actually fight you – actually fight you, Vegeta – to force you to return. The fact is, she was insistent that you come home and fast to someone because she was lonely for her children.”

“I see.”

“And when she is insistent, it is of me. Constantly. Daily. Hourly. Minutely. There are a limited number of times I can stand to be berated by that woman, and I had reached my limit the day your boots hit Vegetasei.”

Vegeta laughed, a chuckle at first that built to a full laugh, head thrown back. What death? What frailty? What abdication? His father was tired of his mother’s endless bitching, and took it out on him.

The King joined his son’s laughter until both men were redoubled in belly shaking hilarity.

 ---

“Ohh, babies, come ouuuut,” Bulma moaned painfully, rubbing her swollen belly. “You have to be big enough now, don’t you? I’ll send your father in there!”

“Will you now?” Vegeta stood in the doorway of their study, Bulma sprawled out before him on the fourth couch they’d had this week. The first – too soft, the second – too firm, the third – no reason, it just made Bulma cry to look at it.

“Ve-ge-taaaaaaa, why won’t the babies come? It’s been one thousand years.”

“It has been 38-41 weeks, depending on when you became pregnant.”

“IT’S BEEN LONGER THAN THAT.”

Vegeta smirked and crossed the room to his beloved one – his beloved ones. He knelt down at the couch and put his head on Bulma’s thigh, mouth facing the dome of her womb and pressed a soft kiss to her flesh. “Little Saiyans, your mother wishes to meet you. Your grandmother wishes to meet you.”

Bulma laid her head back on a pillow and felt herself beginning to cry – again – for no reason other than the gentle timbre of her lover’s voice.

“Little warriors, come out and see your people.

Little royals, come out and see the land.

Little prince and little princess

Your Kingdom is at hand.”

The words were an old royal Saiyan nursery rhyme, and technically, it should have been “little prince OR little princess” but Vegeta had decided long ago that there was one of each in there. He didn’t know how he knew, but he did. Bulma hadn’t disputed it – in fact, she agreed with him. There were no ultrasounds, nothing like the prenatal care on Earth, but there were doctors and doulas who could read the ki signatures of the babies. Queen Pea sent for a specialist with knowledge of the Saiyan Gemini, but he was across the planet and refused to travel by pod. He should be in Asket soon, but until he arrived, Bulma was uncomfortable and weepy and from somewhere down in the pit of her stomach, she was worried about the babies, but didn’t know why.

Vegeta continued humming wordlessly, soothing the babies until their ki mellowed. As it did, some of the pain went out of Bulma’s face and she felt herself relax.

“They like you better than me already,” she pouted.

“Nonsense. Saiyans just don’t like being cooped up together for extended periods of time. They were probably fighting.”

“Vegeta, babies don’t fight.”

“Saiyan babies do.” He joked, tickling her thighs with ungloved fingers, raising gooseflesh all over her legs and arms.

“Of course they don’t!” she giggled.

“Of course they do. Saiyans are warlike beasts and you’ll be all alone amongst three of them. We’ll outnumber you.”

“Oh, but I’m sure,” she purred as he began kissing her belly, parting her legs and sweeping his hands over and over the inside of her thighs, “that my prince will defend me from such beasties.”

Vegeta chuckled, his chest rumbling as he hiked her dress a little further up her hips to expose her pert behind and tuft of unruly blue hair. Panties had gone by the wayside about 8 months into her pregnancy, and dresses were about the only thing she could wear. Her normally delicately manicured hair had grown wild, and natural, and for some reason, Vegeta preferred her that way. She was raw, and real, and she was all his.

He kissed lower on her bump, lower down to that tuft of blue, lower down still to kiss her lips and watch her squirm. “Ahn, Vegeta.” She cooed, already melting at his touch.

“Yes, Princess Bulma?”

“I love you.”

He dove into her then, parting her and lapping up her juicy sweetness as it flowed out around his gentle, skillful fingers as they curled into her and rubbed that spot she loved. With his free hand, he massaged and soothed her ever-aching back and she moaned in two kinds of pleasure underneath him. When she grasped his hair with her fingers and cried out, he increased the intensity and sent her toppling over the edge of her delight.

He looked up at her, wiping his mouth. “Come on. I ran you a bath.”

He picked her up with ease, like picking up an overstuffed pillow, and carried her to the bathing chamber. Beri had actually run the bath, sprinkling in oils and herbs to soothe Bulma’s discomfort and stress. The chamber smelled like roses and the steam was warm around her naked body. He knelt down on one knee, lowering her gently into the water. Her head lolled back and she breathed a sigh.

“Tell Beri I said thank you.”

“Tch.” So much for taking credit. “I’ll be in the kitchen. Call me when you’re ready to get out.”

“Mmhm.” “Bulma.”

“Hmm?” she mumbled, eyes closed.

“Call me when you’re ready to get out. Do not attempt to get out on your own – again.”

“I won’t.”

“Bulma…” he growled a warning.

“Really! Falling once was enough.”

Satisfied, or as satisfied as he was going to be, he shut the door behind him.

“VEGETA!” Bulma screamed. Something was wrong, something was wrong with the babies. The water around her was red, billowing out from a deep crimson into a pink blush at the edges of the tub. “VEGETA!” Bulma was bawling, crying, screaming as Vegeta burst through the bathing chamber door.

“Woma –“ he cut himself off as he was stunned into silence. Blood in the water, terror on her tear streaked face. In half a second, he was at the tub. “I’ll go get Beri or one of the doulas from the castle or – “ He began to pull away from her.

“Vegeta don’t leave me! What’s happening, what’s happening, what’s wrong with my babies?”

He didn’t know. He couldn’t answer her. He needed to go find someone who could help, but she was digging her desperate fingers into his arm and weeping, weeping in abject and perfect terror. Blood welled up from the pricks in his arm, and welled out of her into the water.

“Little warriors, come out and see your people,” he began to sing, in his low, gravelly baritone – an accidental vibrato now, as fear stole in to his voice and it shook and broke. He could feel himself about to cry… something he had not done since he was a baby himself.

“V-vegeta,” Bulma sobbed, “that’s not going to work this time.”

He swallowed. Was he about to meet his children, or watch his wife die? “Little royals, come out and see the land.” He choked, plunging one arm into the water between her legs, as the air around them took on the softest lilac glow.

Bulma was straining against him, against the tub, pushing because instinct told her to. He could feel a little head in his hand, and he jumped into the tub fully clothed, never letting his hand stray from that soft, wet mop of hair.

“Little prince and little princess,” he sang, because he could not scream in his terror, covered now in the bloody water with his wife astride him as he faced her, hands ready to catch their little child. Their little living child, he willed, he insisted.

One last mighty push, and the babe was free in his hands and coming up through the water and breaching the water now, and squalling and crying now – alive, alive, alive his heart sang.

“Your Kingdom is at hand.”

Bulma’s head fell back, cracking against the edge of the tub. “Bulma. Bulma!” He shook her thigh, but she didn’t respond. Tucking the babe - prince or princess unknown, but live and crying with a fury – into the skin tight chest of the suit he still wore, he leaned forward and with measured strength, slapped her face. “BULMA!”

She came to, blinking, bewildered, dazed. “Is he?” and the baby answered her question with renewed volume. “Alive. Stay awake Bulma, stay awake now.” She groaned and tensed every muscle, crying again.

“Vegeta, it hurts!”

“I know, I know, I’m here.”

“The other baby’s coming,” she gritted through bared teeth. The lavender glow of the room deepened to a deep, plummy aubergine light and Bulma pushed again with all her strength. One baby still tucked up into his chest and held in place with his left arm, he had only one hand to catch the baby coming now. Bulma screamed and wept, wept and screamed.
