I have a couple of main problems with the removal of world state interactivity in DAV and the way it's being presented.

The big one for me is the missed opportunity for what is allegedly the game's central theme: regret. You're telling me that Hawke being left in the Fade isn't weighing on Varric's conscience? Or that Morrigan might regret accepting apotheosis because to protect her son she could no longer have a relationship with him? We don't even need to find out about the outcomes of those particular choices the regret should be there regardless.

The devs acting like they're doing people a favour by not 'invalidating worldstates' is so insulting. World states become invalidated by not acknowledging them where they should logically come up. Morrigan's motherhood was a major part of her character arc. The Well of Sorrows was presented as something that will take away that which you cherish most - not only does this threat never eventuate, there's no mention of what happens to the knowledge associated either, does an Inquisitor who drank just suddenly lose that overnight? Talk about invalidating choices.

It would be one thing if the game had been in Early Access and fans demanded Morrigan get added or something, but the devs chose to include these callback characters. They're coasting off prior good will for fan favourites while effectively having them act like entirely separate people to the ones people fell in love with. Commit to the bit: either do a proper reboot so we can make up our minds about a new cast of characters or actually have returning characters mean something.

so in Wally's secret 'vinyl' audios, specifically the last few (if we're listening to em in chronological order), obviously he starts to sound more strained/distressed. his breathing is more labored, like it's taking all of his energy to make contact.

but the audio that really caught my attention was the "But i still can't see" one. cause he just said he has more eyes than he did before. he knows We draw them a lot, and it's thanks to that that he can see. but he still can't see?

so my question is: where is Wally physically? cause although he can (assumedly) see the WHRP goings on, he can see through the eyes We draw, that could all be on a, uh... more Intangible level of sight. like the spiral pit is forming an eye, and then there's the eye on the ceiling in the secret Staff Only section - could Wally be in the pit, that space between his reality and Ours, "watching" through the eyes? but unable to actually see with due to the pit being pitch black nothingness? is he somewhere else? is he stuck? he can see, but he can't... see.

(or is he trying to explain an abstract concept - he's not actually viewing anything, but he can sense it. like how he knows We're there, even if he can't see or hear Us. but he just doesn't have the words to describe it other than using physical senses - see, hear, look.)

and him saying "...that I can see. But it is still... I can't..." but it's still what, Wally? dark? something else that he doesn't have the words to describe, so he just says that he can't see?

i know that in the Livestream Trivia Document (compiled by @/the neighborhoodwatch) there was something said about Wally being in a box. my first thought reading that was "oh, so he's in storage? the physical puppet, i mean?" which would make sense - show's over, there's no more use for him. pack 'em up and put him away. but that paired with the "can't see" audio makes both seem a lil... connected.

Wally can't see > he's likely somewhere dark > the inside of closed boxes are dark > Wally's in a box. (or maybe the Neighborhood is the box? it's a stretch, i know, but the map is a box. television sets are often set up in "boxes". maybe it's less of a physical storage box and more of a 'boxed in' sort of thing...)

one question i've had since the Start of my interest in this incredible project is: how is Wally communicating? how has he connected to the site? how does he connect to our reality? the pit almost definitely has something to do with it - most likely acting as a bridge, or the deteriorating of the barrier between our two 'worlds' - but if Wally is in a box and Not the pit or even just in the puppet's reality... how is he reaching us beyond just seeing through the eyes he's given?

or is he in their reality, and he can contact through the pit or something, but he can't actually see the other side? Our side? he knows it's there - that We're there - but none of it is visible to him. maybe his apparent disassociation in the 14 bug audios is a demonstration of him contacting Us. we can see through him, but it's a one way street.

and speaking of the pit - i just had a thought. his whole thing with Us letting him in, opening... the pit on the neighborhood map is getting bigger and clearer. but the presumed Other Side, the one on the Staff Only ceiling, is small. it's the size of a ceiling panel. it seems to me that Wally is chipping away at his side of the pit or 'portal', trying to reach Our reality, but he needs Us to do the same thing on the other side. the QA can hear him calling, but there's no phone on their (Our) side of the pit. how do We call back???

there's a fundamental barrier & lack of understanding between Wally and the QA/Us. he's trying. he wants to be let in, but what does that mean, really? let him in where? open what? he's desperate. he wants us to understand. he's trying so so hard Without the right tools to clearly communicate what he wants. he can't see Us, We can see him, both know the other is there, but there's no way to connect. and the attempts are hurting all parties involved, however unintentionally

This is an interesting question. We see Arthur respond to it in the moment, of course, by taking the hint and accepting the job. And he is resolute throughout the doing of it, only collapsing in horror when he's done. When he sees how peaceful she looks afterwards, "a glad, strange light broke over his face and dispelled altogether the gloom of horror that lay upon it."

So this seems to suggest that yes, it will be a comforting thought to him in days to come. But at the same time, I can't help but feel it would be nightmare fuel for everyone, all the more for Arthur himself. Dreams of staking her and it not working, of staking her and realizing halfway through that it is her and not her vampiric self that he is staking, and so on... That's fair enough just from it being a deeply traumatic experience. But I also feel like he might feel guilty about leaving her side and 'allowing' her to die, and also feel guilty about 'killing' her tonight. Not in any logical way, of course. But... I dunno. To me at least, it wouldn't feel like any kind of unmitigated comfort when I'm trying to fall asleep. I'd try to think of it that way, and maybe even succeed most of the time, but at others I think it would make everything much worse. And I feel that may be the same for Arthur.

Agent Screenburn was an Agency operative and Enhanced Operatives Division member. They were the previous field agent delegated to your newest assignment, gone missing after a particularly disastrous mission and presumed deceased since then. Screenburn's repertoire of skills consisted of their uncanny knack for hacking and television hijacking. Their final mission prior to their disappearance involved the infiltration of a Zoraxis facility, only for Screenburn to get caught up in an enormous blast spanning the entire building. Our retrieval team did not find a body when they descended upon the explosion site, which casts a shadow of doubt upon whether or not Screenburn is truly deceased. Regardless, there have been reports of missing agents returning alive after being presumed deceased. Should Agent Screenburn be found alive again, then we here at the Agency are more than happy to welcome them back with open arms.

remember when i mentioned brainstorming a personal take on IEYTD4 the other day? well, here's the main antagonist i had in mind for it!

say hi to Agent Operative Screenburn (they/them), former agency agent turned zoraxis operative! originally presumed dead by the agency after a particularly disastrous mission, screenburn became a turncoat once zoraxis came to their aid after the agency failed to. they aim to discredit the agency by revealing their less-than-savory actions to the public, hoping that doing so will put an end to the eternal war between zoraxis and the agency.

i would've drawn more things with them, buuuuut i'm still sick with a fever and this is the most i could've mustered up the energy to draw. here's the stand-alone render of screenburn for anyone who's interested!

My friends, today was a day I honestly didn't think would ever arrive. Today, Georgette and I joined hands in friendship (o hai, Eobard, thanks for witnessing this touching moment 😜)

and we frickin' played some Halo!

For almost 4 hours! It was glorious, friends! We were ALL blinded by its majesty, even Eobard!

She actually had a bit of a rough patch today with the Nvidia card demon coming out to freeze up like an absolute jerk say hi for a moment...

...but I'd just seen there was an Intel update available and was literally researching whether or not to take it when, you know, everything hung up so that made up my mind pretty easily, lol. 🤷‍♀️

After that update, we updated Windows and then I thought, you know what? Let's just go for Steam and see what happens. And Steam installed and so I went for the MCC, which automatically installs Reach, so I plugged in my controller, the Mighty Purple Hand of Spartan Justice™️

(seen here with my cozy Master Chief in his Olaf robe, some hot tea and a box of tissues because I had cold at the time and this was my comfort set up, lol) and we got to saving Reach!

It totally worked, too. Reach was saved, yippee!

Jorge, telling me how waaaaay awesome it was that I helped him and Noble Team TOTES 117% SAVE REACH WITH NO CASUALTIES YES!!!

And look, we're all running to get ice cream! Yay, ice cream! 🍨

Enenra (smoke person)

Sometimes you wondered how she worked. An enenra wasn’t exactly a corporeal being, or were they? The one in front of you wore clothes, and you wondered how that worked, was there a core that held the clothes up? She ate food, so there had to be, but sometimes your hand would just pass right through her, so you really had no clue. Even undressed, she kept up a woman’s physique, but you wondered if she could change the way she looked. Maybe she only had one look when she wanted to be solid, but that might also not be the case considering you had seen her stretch her arm all the way across the room to grab something on multiple occasions. Were her limbs the only thing she could change? Perhaps just her arms? She could change her hair too you were sure. Well, you called it hair but her hold body was made of smoke, her head was in the shape of a lit candle wick, and the top of it you called her “hair.” That “hair” was expressive like a cat’s tail, and after a lot of time with her you were getting good at guessing her emotions and mood based on her hair.

She looked up at you, making eye contact for just a brief moment as you looked away. Suddenly her hand was on your cheek, forcing her to look back at her. With her arm now several feet long, she got up from her desk and came over to you, slowly returning her arm to its original size along the way. “Whatcha lookin at, missy?” She teased.

“You,” you answered, it was the truth after all.

“That deep in thought?”

You decided to just tell her the truth, “Well, honestly, I was wondering how your body worked. You’re both corporeal and not at the same time, I was wondering how much of your body you could manipulate, how much was solid, how much had an unchangeable form.”

“Well, how about I demonstrate for you, then?” Not waiting for an answer, she simply phased through her clothes, resolidifying into her normal shape after they fell. Nothing about her form had changed, so you guessed that when she solidified she had one predetermined solid form. But that was significantly less important than the fact that she was now naked in front of you.

“Open your mouth” she commanded. You hesitated, but decided to comply. As you did so your mouth was filled with her arm/smoke. You tried to breath but nothing could get into your lungs. You looked up at her in panic, “Oh what a lovely face, so desperate and adorable! Come on, missy, try to breathe for me, ‘kay?”

You struggled to get any air in, and for just a moment, you were able to get a breath in before the smoke filled you again. Your eyes fell lower, and you noticed how hard she was. Feeling like you could pass out, you tried stroking her off, but your hand passed right through. “Nuh-uh missy, not yet. I can’t succumb to my desires just yet. I want to see just how desperate for air you can get. Try not to pass out on me, ‘kay?”
