Thoughts about the Ace Attorney Video!
Overall I found it pretty fun, I actually really liked the kind of stilted animation, reminded me of the limited animation of the 2-d games! There's something absolutely delightful about Phoenix and Miles being so casual together, they are such a married couple (and I am the basic bitch that eats it up!! <3) It was really great hearing Eric Vale as Phoenix, he's my favorite and I just love the barely hinged horny energy he's got (just see all the bloopers for the anime lol!). In the comments, I did find out that Sam Riegal couldn't reprise his role from the games due to complications from Tonsil cancer, but he seems to be recovering! Edgeworth is a particular dork in this! There's something wonderful about hearing that voice say "weirdo" so casually! Do keep watching until the very end, you will LOVE it! gayass.JPEG
Overall, it's just a recap of the games (as I expected) with a little Ghost Trick cameo! They didn't cover Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright, but I'm assuming that's because Level 5 owns Layton so there's some complications there. They discuss the basic premise of each game and the rival prosecutors (the Weirdos lol), and it's great just hearing Wright and Edgeworth bounce off each other! I just love that upon Edgey wondering what trick he should learn after hearing about Nahyuta straight up binding Phoenix’s arm….. okay Mr. FREAKworth What I'm saying is that there's a lot of food for NRMT shippers, and I am FEASTING!! A little sad that there weren't any cameos from the assistants, especially Maya or Kay, but it was supposed to be a small little thing, so that's forgivable (for now XD) TBH my biggest bugbear is them saying that it's alright to play the games in any order.... don't listen to that, that's the devil talking, just start with the Phoenix Wright Trilogy and then AJ, that's all I ask, you can come across investigations and TGAA how you see fit, I promise it will be better for you XD I wasn't expecting much from the cryptic announcement, but I really liked the video, there were a lot of fun little easter eggs from the very first frame of the video and onwards.... let's just say it's making me suspiciously optimistic at how much Capcom is paying attention to AA recently... it's not not NOT impossible.... but that's a question for another day haha Video Here:

Things I'd love to see in the Future of the Layton Series:
Some of these are unlikely, borderline impossible. But here's hoping Apollo may grant me the gift of prophesy on just one thing:
1. The rest of the Layton Games get a HD release on mobile.
This just makes sense! The original trilogy got a HD release, time for the prequels! And what if we get new cutscenes and content like Curious Village did? That would be amazing!
2. The entire series gets released on Switch.
This also makes sense. Since NWOS is releasing on the Switch, it makes sense to add the original games so new fans can play all of them! Especially since the Nintendo DS is dead. Rest in Peace. 💕
3. London Life gets a sequel/reboot and is available for all regions.
I've been playing London Life on an Emulator and it is so fun! It's a shame my region never got it!
My hope for the future is that if Spectre's Call gets a HD release, it will include London Life for everyone! But this version will include characters from Miracle Mask and Azran Legacy!
And here's a fun idea: what if befriending Dimitri Allen unlocks the ability to use his time machine! Unfortunately, it doesn't work perfectly; it can only take you twenty years into the future. So you can meet and befriend characters from Mystery Journey and Mystery Room!
4. Layton Brothers Mystery Room Sequel
It's been ten years since the mobile game was released and it's been largely ignored by Level 5. Until recently, with Alfendi's cameo in the anime, and then the manga series. It's clear that there's still love for this game. I think it's perfect time for Alfendi and Lucy to get the sequel they deserve! I'd love to see how they are doing!
5. Layton's Mystery Room Sequel/ Layton Mystery Detective Agency Season 2
I know Katrielle's game and anime wasn't the best received, but I think the series has a lot to offer! With the return of Layton and possibly an appearance from Alfendi, I believe the best is yet to come! Also, we still don't know the backstory of Sherl.
6. Lost Media gets found:
What is Professor Layton and the Phantom Thieves? What is Professor Layton Battle Royale? What is Professor Layton and the Deathly Mirror? I have no idea. But I'd like to know.
7. Roid Artwork
I don't know much about it, but I believe Level 5 had some kind of mobile app where, amongst other things, you received really cute artwork of various characters. Most of if the ones I've seen are poor quality, so I think it would be great if the Level 5 Twitter said, "check these out" and released HD images, including ones we've never seen before.
8. More Games
So, the original series was a trilogy. And the prequels were a trilogy. So what if NWOS is the first entry in a new trilogy, starring Luke in America! The Detective Triton Trilogy!
Also, it's been a while since Professor Layton's first and only crossover game. What about another? I don't know much about the Phoenix Wright series, but a crossover between Apollo Justice and Alfendi/Katrielle could be fun?
9. Rook and Bishop
This message is for Akihiro Hino's eyes only. If you are not Akihiro Hino, please skip.
Hey, Akihiro Hino. I know you read my blog. I will give you £29 and my ham sandwich if you put Rook and Bishop in the new game. They don't even have to do anything, just stand awkwardly in the background. It would be hilarious because nobody would care. Everyone wants to see characters like Flora, Emmy and Descole. You put Benny in LMJ and nobody cared about him. Do this for me.🥺
10. Flora
Just.... Acknowledge her existence in some way. Let her appear in NWOS. Give her something to do.
11. Mangas Series
I was so happy when it was revealed that Level 5 was making a manga series about Mystery Room. I can't read Japanese, but I just love the artwork. So expressive and fun! Completely different from the original 2d sprites.
So I was thinking, what if they made a manga about each of the original games? I don't mean like the Cheerful Mystery Manga, but with beautiful artwork that followed the original stories, maybe with new scenes? I'd like that.
Feel free to add what you'd love to see for the Layton Series! No matter how impossible it sounds! If the list is long enough, at least one thing has to come true, right?
#my theory is#if i write it down its more likely to come true#lets see if any of this ages well#professor layton#Layton series

writer interview game <3
thank u to @pricemarshfield who tagged me in this :) i'm so glad we're friends and u let me bombard you with random writing snippets as i go along!
i will be tagging the og writing wife @atxvanhalen (circa 2012), ao3 famous bffl @riverdanceeee, fantasy-pilled love of my life @multilevelmargoting, the coolest film reviewer in the biz @kaafka, and my begrudgingly kind editor @takeavacation2010 . & anyone else who'd like to write a little something about themselves!
read below if you dare!!!
When did you start writing?
probably as long ago as i could figure out how to & started winning little competitions for it! i love telling stories, usually through a visual medium (storyboarding, screenwriting etc), but it's all writing at the end of the day, no matter how put it down on a page.
i recently located my half finished writing from elementary school (so i must have started from the age of at least 8), all in the email drafts of my oldest email account, and it's always a treat to see how i used to think about romance, about drama and all that good stuff! (i was wrong and sad, but adorably so!)
Are there different themes or genres you enjoy reading than what you write?
i love big sci-fi adventures, heists, life or death sort of stuff, just as long as it's grounded in something tangible and human. i also just love media where you can tell that the artists are having a lot of fun with the medium and they way they're piecing everything together. like i adore the films kneecap (dir. rich peppiatt) and american animals (dir. bart layton) and dick johnson is dead (dir. kirsten johnson), even though i could never see myself writing a true story/biopic feature like that -- they're just exploring what a feature film compiling those ideas looks like today, fighting against the rules of what people think it should be, and just going for it. other than that, i watch a lot of BAD movies and BAD tv because it's fascinating to pull it apart and figure out where things went wrong -- like looking under the hood of a fucked up car.
mostly, i think i read and watch a lot of the types of things i like to write, lots of introspective dramedies and coming of age stories. but usually no tragedy, it makes me too sad.
Is there a writer you want to emulate or get compared to often?
in school i got compared a LOT to tim burton (i made a lot of fantasy focused films that existed in the real world), which honestly feels like a little bit of an insult now. if i was compared to henry sellick, now that would be a compliment.
i'd love to emulate documentarian and cinematographer kirsten johnson! (it's not going to happen. but i love her.)
Can you tell me a bit about your writing space?
i really can write anywhere, as long as it's in complete isolation listening to the same piece of music over and over until whatever i'm doing is complete (that's the autism for ya!). usually when i'm working, i'm lying down in bed in the evening, or weirdly standing with my computer on a counter in the kitchen early in the morning as i'm getting ready for my day. i'm a slow writer and can't get anything done without a deadline (work related) or a special interest (fic related), and usually things sputter aimlessly until someone explicitly asks for it (this is why my ao3 never has anything finished. sorry guys! #shamelssplug!)
(right now the piece of music i'm listening to is norman's walk by jon brion. and yes, if you're curious, my repetition of single pieces of music always messes up my spotify wrapped.)
Are there any recurring themes in your writing? Do they surprise you?
the only theme i can think of is one of meeting someone that you're meant to meet, exactly at the point in your life that you are meant to meet them. life is chance upon chance upon chance, i've found, and i love capturing that life-changing feeling as it balances temporarily on a pinpoint. i especially love when it ends in tragedy too.
agnes varda's cleo from five to seven is a favourite of this trope. a bit of severance by ming le also has this concept wrapped up in it. and billy wilder's the apartment.
i don't think it surprises me though, i think it's always something i'm looking for in life. to eventually look back and see the path i made, and to know even if i didn't at the time, that it was the right one because of the people i had the pleasure of meeting, even briefly.
i also love 90s wedding movies and the strict structure they're written with, it's fun to replicate and poke fun of in my own work.
What is your reason for writing?
i started writing because i would get really overwhelmed with my feelings over whatever was going on in my life, and need to parse through them somehow. they say it's always best to start with a nugget of something, and build off of it. it's how i've coped with everything from romantic kerfuffles, to immigration, and racism, to parents splitting up, death, and everything else life has to offer. explicitly in my writing, or not.
maybe i've just been exceptionally lucky, but every time i've shared something that felt so isolating and devastating i did not know how to deal with it, i've always met someone after the fact who looked me in the eyes and told me they felt exactly the same thing.
it makes me love being a person on this planet.
How do you want to be thought about by your readers?
i don't know! if you like it, please let me know! if you don't, please don't tell me i'll think about it for the next twelve years of my life and also cry.
no, but in all seriousness, i just want to make people feel like some part of them is understood, whatever that looks like. yell into the void with me, or yell back at me from the void, whatever works best for you.
What do you feel is your greatest strength as a writer?
pacing and emotional beats. i can always feel when a scene is done, or when i want it to be done. i love writing the emotional stuff, i don't really care about the stuff that it takes to get there, other than it makes those beats happen.
writing my dialogue is like pulling teeth. writing my inner monologue gets convoluted. writing, i'm a slower than the oldest, most decrepit turtle. writing my descriptions can get too long in screenplay format. literally nothing but pacing out a story and hitting those emotional beats.
How do you feel about your own writing?
it makes me sick to my stomach. after i've obsessed over something for months and it's done, i can't look at it. i'm always terrified that it's so much worse than i want it to be, or that i'm envisioning it is. (i've had this exact experience at a festival with one of my films before and it haunts me forever.) i need other people to tell me it's written okay before i start to feel normal about it. i want to get over this sensation eventually, but it doesn't seem like it's happening anytime soon.
that being said, i don't think i could make myself stop writing and telling stories if i wanted to. my cross to bear, i suppose.
that's all. thanks for this, sarah, and if anyone read this, i hope you enjoyed it :^)

What games do you think the nxx would have played as they were growing up?
Recently got into beat saber videos and I picture Marius loving the game. Not for the music, for the saber. He just wants a VR headset and controller so he can wave around neon sabers.
Artem is a Stardew Valley kid (i've never played so i might be wrong)
Luke and Rosa are constantly together playing Sky
Vyn gives a plague/bio inc player vibe
OMG i love marius being into beat saber because ur so right about him liking the VR aspect (and i remember there are VR headsets in the pax experience room!!) and also waving around a saber. additionally and funnily, he'd be so bad at it. musically-inept!marius is one of my favorite running gags, but thats not stopping him from feeling the music (much to everybody else's mild dismay jHVKSJFD)
i HUGELY AGREE on artem being into SDV. he would create such an optimized farm but i also think he'd get really into romancing all the villagers one save file at a time because he wants to get to know everyone's stories. (sidenote: the fic "farm time??!?" by lawlietss is such a fun fic i read way back where the nxx team play SDV all together, i deffo rec it if ur into SDV shenanigans)
ive never heard of/played those other games u mention, but i'd like to add that luke would be SUPER into Professor Layton games. IT'S PUZZLE SOLVING!! MYSTERY STORIES!!! PLUS THERES A LUKE (LUKE TRITON) IN THERE TOO!!!
more on luke, coming from his love of antiques and old stuff, i think he'd also be into older/retro consoles. he played Pokemon Yellow on a GameBoy Color he found at a garage sale once and ever since then hes wondered why all pokemon games dont have the "pokemon follow u around" thing, it's the best thing EVER
for vyn.......ive never actually played this game im about to recc for him myself, but ive watched a bunch of videos on it. i think vyn would enjoy Pathologic. really interesting storytelling and it seems like absolute fucking hell to play. he'd definitely enjoy it. KJHVSDKFJHSJD
im actually not the best person to ask this because i havent played many games myself HAHAKJSHDVFJ but im very endeared by marius flailing around with beat saber <3 go off, u lanky blueberry
#roshie-writes#both the games i diagnosed for luke were ones i grew up with...i still have my gameboy color...the screen is fucked up from flooding#but it is still here...still so dear to me....#asks

Pr.Layton : Specter's Call , theories and thoughts (spoilers for this game, and also for the whole original trilogy, and for the movie Eternal Diva), let's get started :
-Tiny Luke
-Layton is a workaholic mess who sleeps in his office and has books everywhere on the ground because he's reading 10 of them at the same time and gets distratced by rocks. I love this guy.
- "I must go no time to explain! Oh wait I'm a gentleman. *backwalk* *sips tea* OK thanks bye!" If THIS is how the Professor has been going on new mysteries all this time, I finally get where his bad habit of leaving Flora behind comes from.
-Not sure I can trust Emmy yet. Or well maybe I can trust her but that doesn't mean she's not hiding something. I have no proof she was actually hired as the Professor assistant (Look, I finished Lost Future recently, and I had a huge history of video games betrayals even before that, maybe I'm paranoid but blame game scenarists), . Apparently the Professor is supposed to know her but he doesn't remember. Hmm.... Well, I have no clue for now. (Maybe it's something like "you saved my village from fake mysterious zombies like 3 years ago with a puzzle about doors remember " or another "my loved ones died in front of me and you happened to be there" or maybe "we've been neighbours for five years dude")
-It'd be cool if they make a connection with the previous games : Maybe Emmy was the person who called the emergencies when Layton got assaulted/stabbed when he was looking for answers about Claire's death. I mean he was unconscious so probably someone found him laying there and had to call the hospital. Maybe he was too physically and emotionally damaged back then to remember Emmy's face. Could be a nice way to reference the events of Lost Future !
-No I won't shut up about Lost Future because I'm still crying.
-The only way Luke could know about the where and when a new apparition will occur is thanks to the mouse we saw in some places (missed it 3 times already, am I supposed to catch it?). The Professor doesn't know that Luke can talk to animals yet so it's reasonable that he's not even considering it. It means that the attacks are always premeditated, probably by the mysterious guy from the beginning (I mean he said it himself "Let's write the next part of this legend". or something )Well. The remaining questions are who exactly and how and why.
-The specter is probably a giant robot
-If people are always evacuated before an attack, it means that the guy behind it all knows that he won't manage to hurt anyone following his plans. It makes me think that it's not a grudge against the townsfolk. Or at least people were never the target to begin with. The giant destroys a different street every time, crushing empty houses. Seems like it's looking for something (remember the mention of mysterious ruins which could be hidden underneath the town ? Yeah.). That or the guy really wants to piss off everyone in this town and destroys their homes just to laugh at them like a madlad.
-In the stories, it says that the Giant used to protect the town. Now it's attacking it. So maybe it is indeed a story of "I'm a normal guy. *one treason, trauma, or anything bad caused by at least one person from hometown later* Fuck you all I'll destroy you". Oh no wait that's just Clive.
-Layton taught me to always consider several possibilities so there : Maybe the specter is not a robot but a very big and confused bear. And the evil looking guy of the beginning is just doing a theatre project.
-Wait, last entry is a joke but this made me realise : I'm assuming that the guy talking about the legend in the beginning and the giant attacks we're facing are related. Because it seems obvious. Fancy mysterious guy talk about a legend -> legend comes back in different form -> mysterious guy is behind it all. But maybe I shouldn't jump to this conclusion that fast. Maybe there's two actors in this, and the guy we've seen in the beginning has nothing to do with the giant's attacks (doesn't mean he won't take advantage of it for whatever his plans are), and someone else is directing the giant. (Which, again, is very probably a robot but could be something else. No idea what though.) I should keep that possibility in mind.
- And about Luke knowing about the attacks... Well, at first I did thought it was because the Giant was following a pattern and Luke understood the key of it (because you know, smart kid. All he would need is the newspapers and a map of the town), but honestly I don't believe it much, mice telling Luke about the attacks seems way more plausible to me.
-Also, I don't trust Luke's dad. Not sure why, I just don't trust him. And I wonder what happened to Luke's mom or the exact reason she left. Seems like a touchy subject for Luke.
-I don't know who the police chieff is, but the way the policemen talk about him makes me think that he's suspicious. The policemen are all hiding something. This "same outfit same mustache same family name " thing, the guy who can't explain why we wouldn't be allowed in town and just fall asleep to dodge the question, and things like that... yep, suspicious.
-So question : Who Don Paolo is impersonating this time ?
-Wait I'm not sure if Luke ever met Don Paolo before Curious Village.
Maybe he won't be in this game.
-The Professor decided to collect random things in the streets and apparently a dirty spoon is fascinating enough for him. I know he's an archaeologist, but please, that spoon could be younger than him.
-Maybe Don Paolo is all the policemen.
-.... Wait it would make so much sense. Don Paolo is all the policemen !
-About the fog : if the giant is a steam machine, it makes sense that it's surrounded with more fog. I really don't see what else it could be if not a robot. I'm trying the "think differently" thing but... Well, maybe an ancient robot, like the big roc guys in the movie Atlantis, looking for the old ruins it was supposed to protect or something like that? (Sounds more plausible than the giant bear at least so I'll take it. Still think that the normal robot is the most likely. Oh wait ! Maybe it is a an ancient golem, but powered by a modern guy. Like the guy found this giant big old thing and thought "Hey I can have fun with this. Let's terrorise an entire town". Now, is it the mysterious guy from the beginning or another guy... Still unsure. I mean, mysterious guy is likely involved in this, but at what level? How ? Why ?
-I'm tired of calling him mysterious guy, he had a thing on with fur or feathers or something right ? He's Feather for now.
-Wait. This cat. This cat has a mustache. He's purple. ...... PAUL DID YOU DISGUISED YOURSELF AS A CAT ?!
-Nevermind it's just the puzzle cat.
-Okay, so new things : It's mentioned that we couldn't see the legs of the giant. It came from water apparently. Hmm... Could it actually be light projections or something ? And they actually use a much more simple mechanic thing to do damage in the city, but cover it up as a giant with some games of lights and smoke ?
- I also totally forgot about the flute thing. Since it sounded like there wasn't a clear origin of the melody, my guess is that they're using the underground to diffuse it everywhere in the city. (After all, what's a Layton game without a sequence in the sewers?)
-"Hey let's ask everyone we meet if they know where the black market is. It's not like if it was illegal or something."
-.....The raven guy is actually the girl selling vegetables, isn't it ?
-"Strange how there's only kids here" yeah strange. I think you're not going to find anything close to a black market here Professor, these are just children messing up with you, we should leave.
-Oh. So there IS a black market. Kinda. Runned by children. I didn't see the "kid gang cons an entire town with garbage and they're rulling it" thing coming. I want a sidegame with backstories with theses kids. They're a big found family. Even their designs are cool.
-I kinda lost track, why am I looking for the very far away mysterious manor again ?
-The guy who bought the flute used to live there but died, I remember now.
-Why are we assuming that a girl who's supposed to live there is held hostage ? Well I guess trespassing is always fun. Let's go.
-If there was an hostage here they're probably long dead. I mean look at this place.
-So these two kids have been living here on their own for an entire year and nobody helped them ? They really went "Oh there's a random old guy taking care of the kids they're fine ". And of course nobody checked if the old guy wasn't one of the kid himself. Luke, I'm sorry, your townsfolks don't need a curse to act like a bunch of irresponsible idiots.
-Why was everyone saying that the old man deserved to die (In front of his grieving daughter nonetheless) ? Seriously what's wrong with these people ? ... What has he done to be treated like this ? How did he died exactly ?
-Turns out Emmy just randomly met the Professor at Scotland Yard and she seemed SO surprised to be called "Lady" it makes me wonder how she has been treated in her life because it looked like it was the first time someone showed basic respect to her or something. What happened to you Miss Altava ?
-Oh OK so the dead guy was just a bad landlord. There would be lot of murders if everyone started to kill overpricing landlords.
-Emmy : Ready to throw hands
Layton : Steps back protecting Luke, thinking "Oh no not again"
Emmy : Actually beats the ass of three guys by herself. What a Lady.
-Ahah, I knew it was the mouse ! I had no clue for the water thing though.
-OK so now we have the loch Ness monster as a friend. And they arrested a kid. Like not even a teenager. An actual freaking child. Arrested. In front of her younger brother. And Jakes perfectly knows it ain't her. But he's totally ok with accusing and kidnaping (yeah I'm sorry that's not what I'd call a proper arrestation) a kid for no real reason. I don't like this guy.
-Yep, the specter is a robot/engine thingy, it's not like if there was many other options anyway (except for the giant seal I guess ?). I'd like to see the actual thing though, why the characters can see it and not me ? Cut the mystery I want to see the giant mecha thing already !
-Yes it was all for the golden ruins. So I was right about that one too.
-I thought Luke's mom was either possibly dead or divorced (And I thought Clark didn't know how to announce the news so he just said she was on vacation.), but no, she was actually held hostage in the basement for SIX months. So that's what we were supposed to find in the basement. Wait. So Feather was actually there the whole time.
-His name is Descole actually. Not helping. I still have no idea who the heck he is. This may be called the "final battle" but I still need answers.
-I'm loving the fact that our greatest allies are some street kids conning people for a living. I feel like I'm in the 1800- something in a Victor Hugo's book.
-Hershel : Please run away in a safe spot.
Emmy : No.
Luke: No
Hershel : I'm already a grieving depressed man drowning his misery onto hardwork please don't endanger yourself.
Emmy and Luke : Nope!
-Giant robot fight, go !
-So before I get all the answers... Why would some guy destroy a whole city just for an old city that may or may not exist underneath?
-Possibility 1 : Money. I doubt it though. This guy seems like he has a backstory. However, it's likely the motivation of Jakes.
-Possibility 2 : He's a huge nerd ready to destroy an entire town for the sake of finding rocs. An extremist, overdramatic archaeologist.
-Possibility 3 : Is looking for ancient artifacts with ancient technologies/magic to help/save/resurrect a loved one. And is totally ok with killing people if needed.
-possibility 4 : The above but not for a loved one, the guy just wants to be famous by making the discovery of the century because what have you done with your life if your name doesn't appear in history books.
-Possibilty 5 : maybe he can't stand Layton for some reasons. It looks like Descole and Layton know each other. When he told his name, Hershel was like "Hmmm, Descole you say? Where did I heard that name?". Since Descole wanted to find old ruins, and since it doesn't seems like it's for money (or at least not just money), maybe he's an archaeologist too. Maybe they met at the university ! And that's would be why he knew Clark's as well ! But if that's the case... I dunno, was he in love with Claire too? Was Clark in love with Claire too ? Was everyone in love with Claire ? Is it where wars come from ? From many people being in love with the same person? Is that how we all die ?
No but seriously, if they do know each others: Layton doesn't seem to remember him that much. His reaction is more like "I heard that name but where" And I don't know how to read Descole's behaviour: Is he sorta respectful of Layton ? Like "Hey, you're a smart ass, that's cool, and fun to watch, but I'm more clever than you so get wrecked by my giant frog machine" , or is he more like "I can't even spite you I can't wait to see you die. Respectfully." (I don't know he strikes me as the "I'm an absolute psycho but in a very polite way" type of guy.). Like... Does he hate him? Respect him ? Doesn't care and just thinks "Hey look a clever guy. Hmm, that might be a problem." ? Or... Actually has a bigger masterplan and needs him for something bigger ? ... But what about the golden garden ? What's so interesting about it ? I mean... Enough to destroy an entire town ? I dunno, he's looking for something... Yeah he looks like someone who WANTS something. Question is what. And does Layton just happens to be there, or does he wants him to be there ?
It was Luke who called for help and I don't think Descole has anything to do with Layton being here, so yeah, I don't think Descole needed Layton in any way. He was just there, and so he had to adapt his plans. But ! I still think they know each other. Probably from university because honestly layton spent his whole life in there and I don't know where else he could have meet someone.
Possibility 6 : The golden garden have a secret thing and Descole wants it.
-.... Wait that's the end ? But I still have questions.
-Since Emmy isn't here for the original trilogy...What will happen to her ? Either she finds a new job, have to move out, or dies. The answer will be in the last prequel game I suppose.
-I just watched the movie. Sounds like possibility 4 is the most likely, but I'm sure there's something else. I mean he looked desperate to make that discovery. Why ? Since he has done the same thing in Misthallery, I don't think what kind of ruins he's looking for matters to him. It just has to be a huge thing. But what is he looking for ? Fame ? Recognition ? Self-esteem ?
-Also I don't like Melina's father, this guy is a big yikes. Stealing people's life the way he did seems disgusting. I think it's the unethical science process that disturbs me the most. And the general way he acts.
-About the history of Ambrosia... You're telling me that their queen died, and so they all drank poison to kill themselves. That... That is surprisingly dark.
-It made me laugh to see the contrast between Emmy, who seemed like a skilled aviator, and an even more skilled fighter; you just have to look at her to know that she knows what she's doing, truly a wonderful and reliable lady; and then you have Layton; who is equally skilled at making things with garbage and swordfighting, but looks so chaotic while doing it. He made a helicopter FROM SCRATCH and the thing is working while we know from Lost Future that Layton never learned how to pilot, but it's still a handmade helicopter built in 10 minutes so of course it looks shitty and unstable, but it still works and that's impressive, but it still LOOKS chaotic and ready to break into a millions pieces at any second. And the swordfight ? Of course he's good at it. But with a freakin pipe. Like, we guess that he must know what he's doing, but what if he doesn't ? This smart, long hat guy just built a helicopter from nothing, then immediately crashed and somehow managed to survive, and now he's fighting some sword guy with a broken pipe. Is he just improvising his life hoping things will work out fine ? He looks smart but does he really know what he's doing ?

Alright, let's do this, i guess
My ennagram is propably either 6w5 or 5w6 i'm not quit sure
I do watch a lot of video essays, too many to name any favorites, most of them about fiction/media analysis, a few channel examples being: cj the x, ragnarrox, lindsay ellis, ladyknightthebrave (though i've admittedly only seen her the haunting of hill house/bly manor videos), what's so great about that & hbomberguy (fuck tommy tallarico)
My favorite audio rn is probably "Your Chaotic Roommate Confesses His Feelings For You", for multiple reasons i probably can't get into in a post like this
In terms of who hold no appeal for me, mostly david but also vincent, he's just too idk clasically romantic for my tastes
Speaking of which, i'm generally not the most traditionally romantic person which sometimes makes me worried that i'm not affectionate enough/in the right way for people
I generally love horror and/or fantasy and/or mystery media of all types.
I used to watch a lot of rpg maker horror game lets plays during a generally rough time in my life (though i've still never played one of them myself) mostly the channel manlybadasshero and the german channel nesfatelp.
The professor layton series of puzzle/mystery games are a cornerstone of my child & and early teenagehood, the two with the spookiest athmospheres (the diabolical/pandoras box and spectres call) probably being my favorites if i had to choose. I also recently (finally) started getting into the ace attorny series.
In terms of platonic attraction: just the entire damn squad, including gavin.
I don't really have any guilty pleasure favorites i think, but for some reason i had this weird cheap dvd which was a fairy tale themed collection of german knock studio cartoon films as a kid. There where a few by this studio called dingo pictures (as i would later find out, here's the german wikipedia page since there isn't an english one: https://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dingo_Pictures) on there including an alladin knock of (here's a clip of it: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=2u4h5STlXUc&pp=ygUVYWxhZGluIGRpbmdvIHBpY3R1cmVz)
It seems to be the same german animation team/studio as that film where the yeee dinosaur meme/clip comes from (this one:
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=q6EoRBvdVPQ&pp=ygUMeWVlIGRpbm9zYXVy)
Though the dino movie wasn't on the dvd, probably since it isn't fairytale themed, so i never saw that one as a kid.
And there also was a bambi knock of by dingo pictures called goldie that i even had as a seperate dvd of as well for some reason (here's a clip: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=b_WNza6_Z2c&pp=ygUMR29sZGllIGJhbWJp) there also where films clearly made by other small studios on that dvd as well, it really was a weird mix.
And although i could even as a kid tell that these films were objectivly "bad" i still found some strange enjoyment and fascination in them at the time and looking up these clips gave me immense nostalgia, i even have to say i enjoyed goldie more than disney's bambi, simply because it was more intersting in it's strangeness while i found bambi always boring.
Well, there you go, hope that's enough/helpful
Addendum: As a kid i used to always just say my hobbies are reading and drawing/painting and while i still like these activities (and i still read a book every once in a while) it started to feel kind of dishonest since i haven't actually been doing these things as much anymore (especially drawing/painting, i really need to get back into that) so last year i started to get into new hobbies i had interested in trying for a while, like learning to play guitar as well as starting to do archery and now also wanting to get into general martial arts (i mean, i gotta get buff arms somehow, right)
Ooh, I like you. Type 5w6, the Troubleshooters, are such an interesting type, and you have fantastic taste in movies, interests, video essays, and games. You know who else would like you? Guy~!
The enneagram types you align with, plus the video essays and games you like, give me the vibe of someone really thoughtful and in their head, like Honey, and we all know what a fuckin great match they are with Guy. This also works because Honey doesn’t strike me as traditionally romantic or saccharine sappy either.
I’m imagining a really loving, lowkey in its intimacy kind of relationship, the kind that’s built on a companionable compatibility you two have. It’s lots of chill nights watching horror movies that he talks through non-stop, mystery movies where he always guesses the killer. Its trying new hobbies, sports, and classes together and getting adorably, lovingly competitive. It’s Guy being very cute but entirely unhelpful with the Professor Layton puzzles.
Song:
It's funny 'cause you drive me half insane/ A universe without you would be thoroughly mundane/ There's no one else I'd rather fall in love with/ And that is my best friend in the world
Yeah, I’ve just designated you Honey-kinnie, friends/roommates to lovers vibes, I hope you’re okay with that /lh Guy’s just the perfect guy (ha) for sneaking himself into your heart, you know? He’s there and silly and incorrigible and inexplicably charming, and then you can’t imagine home with him.
Runner-Ups:
Asher is a really cute choice for runner-up because he strikes me as a scaredy-cat who pretends to be tough, and I love to pair wimps with horror buffs. Ollie is also a good option because I think you, he, and Guy would like all the same things. That would be a really cute fucking friend group actually.
note: you have, again, excellent taste in video essays I highly recommend ladyknighttothebrave’s video about Sense8 it’s my favorite one about one of my favorite shows 💕 you’re also totally fine for sending in two asks, all input is helpful and valuable 💚
Read this post and send me an ask if you’d like a match-up of your own! 💌

Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright - Survey Results
Thanks to everyone who took my Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright survey, whether you found it from the PL or AA subreddits, from my earlier post here, or from my Twitter! Almost 350 people responded, which is way more than I expected.
Overall, the results pretty heavily skewed towards people who have played Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright -- around 81% said they had played it, and only 19% hadn’t. That’s about what I expected, given the nature of the survey. I tried to market it to people who hadn’t played the crossover too, because I wanted to know whether Ace Attorney fans or Professor Layton fans were more likely to have played the crossover, but I wasn’t very successful. Around two-thirds of responders said they were fans of both Professor Layton and Ace Attorney, but I had a bigger reach to just Ace Attorney fans over just Professor Layton fans. I suspect there are multiple reasons for this -- the first being that the Ace Attorney fandom is just...bigger. There are a lot more Ace Attorney fans than there are Professor Layton fans active on the Internet right now. Layton hasn’t had the same publicity in recent times that Ace Attorney has gotten from both the release of DGS in English and some prominent streamers (RTGame comes to mind). The other reason is that I’m in a lot more fan spaces for Ace Attorney than Professor Layton -- I basically only engage with Professor Layton via the Discord I run and posting on Tumblr, but I’m in at least half a dozen Ace Attorney centric Discord servers, so this survey was promoted to more Ace Attorney fans.
Only seven responders said that they didn’t enjoy Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright, and of those, two of them said they disliked the Professor Layton mechanics and two said they disliked the Ace Attorney mechanics. One other person said they disliked the Ace Attorney mechanics and didn’t play the Ace Attorney games because of it but still enjoyed Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright, and two other people said they disliked the Professor Layton mechanics and didn’t play the Professor Layton games because of it but still enjoyed Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright.
Of course, most people were fans of at least one franchise before playing Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright. About 33% of responders that have played the crossover said they were fans of both series before, which makes about 30% of responders being only fans of Professor Layton or Ace Attorney before playing the crossover.
More results under the cut!
Most people have played at the very least the first game of both series (Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney + Professor Layton and the Curious Village). The majority of responders said that they’ve played the whole Phoenix Wright trilogy. The least played Ace Attorney game was Gyakuten Kenji 2, which I suspect just comes down to the fact that you can’t legally play it in English, and the least played Professor Layton game was Layton Brothers: Mystery Room. I don’t quite have as good of a pulse on trends in the Layton fandom, being relatively new to it myself, but it’s not as tied to the rest of the Layton franchise as far as I’m aware.
The favorite games among people who had played the crossover roughly reflects the distributions among the fandom at large -- there isn’t much correlation between “having played Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright” and any game in particular, to the best of my awareness.
The favorite Ace Attorney game was fairly evenly spread, with Trials & Tribulations being the top one at 25.4%. Here’s the top 5:
1) Trials & Tribulations (25.4%) 2) The Great Ace Attorney 2: Resolve (18%) 3) Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney (13.7%) 4) Gyakuten Kenji 2/Investigations 2 (11.6%) 5) Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney (9.5%)
Every game in the series got at least one vote (shoutout to the three people who said Investigations 1 was their favorite, I didn’t think there was anyone who thought that game was their favorite. play Investigations 2 if you have the chance).
The Professor Layton favorite game results were much more heavily skewed towards Unwound/Lost Future, which is about what I expected. Diabolical Box/Pandora’s Box did much better than I had anticipated, and so did Layton Brothers: Mystery Room. I suspect that Mystery Room is the only one that has any connection to “liking and having played Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright”, since it’s also a murder mystery game (according to my friends who have played it, at least). Here’s the top 5, again:
1) Unwound/Lost Future (40.5%) 2) Diabolical/Pandora’s Box (16.2%) 3) Curious Village (10.9%) 4) Miracle Mask (9.2%) 5) Last Specter/Spectre’s Call (5.3%)
Azran Legacy and Mystery Room are both tied at 3.2%. Nobody selected Katrielle’s game.
Most people said they already knew everything there was to know about either franchise before playing, but there were a lot more people who said they knew nothing (1) or almost nothing (2) about Professor Layton. I suspect this one is due to how Ace Attorney is more pervasive in general pop culture; I had been aware of Ace Attorney before I got into it (mostly from Tumblr reposting “almost Christmas means it wasn’t Christmas” yearly). Meanwhile I didn’t know Professor Layton existed until I heard about the crossover. Then again, that’s just me, I’m fairly young (the first Ace Attorney game is older than I am) and thus don’t have a pulse on 2000s video game fandom. Someone who was around at the time the games were first released could probably tell me more about the culture.
This is the graph of how much people said they knew about Ace Attorney:
And this is the graph of how much people said they knew about Professor Layton:
About 28% of people said that Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright had an impact on why they played Professor Layton, with most of this group saying they played Professor Layton because they enjoyed the puzzles. About 32% of people said that Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright had an impact on why they played Ace Attorney, with most of this group saying they played Ace Attorney because they enjoyed the trials. Overall, most people said they played it either because they liked the main characters that appeared in the game, or because they enjoyed the mechanics, if the crossover had any impact on why they decided to play the game.
Some things I want to address:
1) Why Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright couldn’t be selected as favorite game in either series
I wanted to see if there was any major differences between the regular fandoms of Ace Attorney and Professor Layton in their preferences and people who have played the crossover. The answer was no. I appreciate the people who would say that Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright is their favorite in either series; it’s a great game (personally, it’s not mine -- yes yes I’m a little stereotypical but my favorites are TGAA2 and Unwound Future).
2) Why I made you choose between Barnham and Darklaw
Originally, this question was going to be “favorite inquisitor”, since the prosecution is a key part of any Ace Attorney game, but I knew that most people were going to select Layton for this question, so I took him out and just made it Barnham and Darklaw.
3) Yes, Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright was released almost ten years ago, I realize that
I’ve only been in the Ace Attorney fandom for around a year, and in the Professor Layton fandom for about a month. I know that there are a lot of long-time fans who have played the games as they came out, so thank you for trying to remember what your experience was like nearly ten years ago now! I appreciate it greatly.
4) Why I didn’t include “Yes, because I disliked [the characters]”
It would have made me sad if anyone said “Yes, the crossover impacted my desire to play PL because I didn’t like Luke and Layton/my desire to play AA because I didn’t like Phoenix and Maya”. It’s a little selfish, I’ll admit -- but I don’t regret my decision. It made me sad enough to see the few people who disliked a fundamental mechanic of one of the game series haha, especially since I got into PL to solve puzzles
Some comments people left on the survey that I want to highlight:
- People tended to talk positively about the Golden Court and the soundtrack! Both of which, in my opinion, are major highlights.
- A lot of people complained in the comments about the ending, which is fair. Some people said they disliked how Barnham was shoved aside, or how Espella’s relationship with her father was written, or just in general how it felt like they were going way too big on the scale of the twists.
- Shoutout to the people that mentioned minor characters in there. Jean Greyerl is indeed best girl (and also trans, which yes was brought up in my comments). Emeer Punchenbaug is one of my least favorite characters from either franchise (none of the Layton NPCs annoyed me nearly as much as he did), but I respect the bit. And to the one person who mentioned Johnny Smiles, massive respect for liking a witness from the tutorial case that doesn’t really show up again.
- Another shoutout to the Professor Layton fan dating an Ace Attorney fan -- I’m glad the two of you had fun with the crossover!
- A couple people mentioned that they have a big soft spot for the game because it got them into one of their current favorite game series, most of those being Ace Attorney fans who got into Layton because of the crossover. I am high-fiving each and every one of you. I see you. I understand you.
- To the person that mentioned Danganrompa v3 -- I’ve never played Danganrompa and I have no interest in doing so, so I have...no idea what you meant by copying the ending of Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright, but I am vaguely intrigued because I can hardly see anyone copying it because of how crazy it gets.
- To the person who wants a TGAA/PL crossover -- that sounds like a really fun idea. I’ve thought about it before, but it requires either digging into Layton’s backstory as portrayed in AL or messing with the canon of Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright to make the timeline work.
- To the person who said Maya was their favorite animal -- I see you, and I salute you. Creachur vibes indeed.
Re: The Fun Questions:
1) The Barnham-Darklaw question did favor Barnham, but by a much smaller margin than I expected, if I’m being honest. It was 51.3% to 48.7%. I was expecting for there to be a lot more people who chose Barnham. It’s nice to know that it’s closer than I expected, especially as a Darklaw Enjoyer myself.
2) Eve the cat beat Constantine, but both of them beat Cracker. One person wrote in Snowy the goat, which I am deeply ashamed of forgetting. I’m sorry :(
3) The plurality of people didn’t like that I made them choose which crossover team-up was the best, but Phoenix and Layton took the crown, followed by Luke and Maya, then Phoenix and Luke, and then Layton and Maya.
I kind of wish I had included a question about side media, especially with Eternal Diva and LMDA being canon parts of the Layton franchise, but Ace Attorney doesn’t really have any equivalent (most of the non-game-media is just adaptations, either of the first game or the trilogy), so it would have been unbalanced. Besides, then it’d be a question of which media exactly I should include, because there’s a lot out there on both sides, and I’d probably have to exclude some.
Anyways, here’s the link to the results spreadsheet, feel free to make a copy and use the data yourself for some other analyses. I’d love to see if there are any correlations.

I know I’m 15 years late, but I need to talk about the Professor Layton prequel games.
Includes spoilers for Last Specter, Miracle Mask and Azran Legacy. Because I have words to say.
As a kid, I was a huge fan of the original three Layton games. Even though it was a long time ago, I still have fond memories of pouring over the riddles with my brother. We also watched the movie together some time back then, but only recently upon rewatching it did I find out that it belongs to a prequel series of games.
I got my hands on them and immediately my love for the games was reignited. I absolutely adore Last Specter, it was everything I still held dear in my memories and more. I finished the game at almost 100% in only two days or so. I’m planning on replaying the original games soon, but Last Specter might just stay my favourite game of them all.
Then I jumped into Miracle Mask and… I don’t want to say I hated it, but I struggle to find a less intense word to describe my disappointment. I really disliked the 3D graphics, the new controls, and most importantly, almost every single screen of the game. Professor Layton, for me, equals a cozy but slightly mysterious setting. It equals calm. Monte d’Or is anything but. It’s colorful and visually noisy, and that combined with the 3D graphics I dislike made for a very exhausting experience. I ended up rushing through the game to get it done instead of enjoying it and seeking out every puzzle I could.
I guess I went into Azran Legacy with lower expectations, because I found the graphics and controls much more tolerable there (even though I still don’t quite like them). It’s still competing with Miracle Mask for least favourite in my list simply because of the story.
Now don’t get me wrong, I did enjoy the story for the most part. It just… takes away so much from the other stories, especially from the previous two games. I loved the Layton stories in great part because they are so personal – the mystery is meaningful because it means something to characters we love/get to love throughout the game. Azran Legacy’s story is too grand. It affects the whole world, takes place throughout the whole world, and feels like it spreads itself too thin because of it. It doesn’t have enough time for individuals because there’s so much to do. And in the face of such high stakes, what was the meaning of saving a single town in Last Specter or Miracle Mask? That Garden of Healing, that was so important at the end of Last Specter because it means Arianna can live, is now relegated to being “just one of the Azran ruins”, just like the ruins of Akbadain (or however you write it, I can’t quite remember sorry), which had so much meaning to our beloved Professor and his childhood friends. Which, by the way, despite being alluded to being incredibly vital in unveiling the Azran Legacy, have no role besides like a half-sentence in the third game.
And… the ending. I refuse to accept what they did to Emmy as canon because it feels less like a plot twist and more like a “Oh, we forgot these are prequels and we need a reason for her not to be in the other games”. It doesn’t fit her character at all. It’s not a betrayal from her, but from the writers – they made this really cool character that we love and care about, and then, three games and a movie in, go like “haha jinx, she was against you this entire time”. Like—no?? Have you read your own characterization of her? Because I did, and there wasn’t a single line that didn’t read “she genuinely cares about the Professor and Luke and EVERYONE THEY MEET”. She saw how Targent treated people. No way would she still be unquestioningly loyal to Bronev, especially after knowing the Professor for a while. If you wanna drop this kind of “plot twist” on a main character, making them go completely against their morals and their previous characteristics, you have to have at least one thing, literally anything that foreshadows it. The Professor more or less got closure with his family matters there (which also seemed a little bit shoe-horned in, in my opinion, they could have just left it out and it still would have been fine), but the conclusion of everyone else’s arcs felt… so unsatisfying. Emmy I already went into way too much detail about. But Aurora too – her death was so cliché I couldn’t even be sad about it. They literally did the exact same with her as with Loosha, the “sacrificed herself so we don’t have to figure out the consequences of her existing in this universe”. I already didn’t like it in Last Specter, but I could accept it. But them pulling the same thing at the end of the series just feels cheap.
I think this is enough of a rant. If anyone ever reads this far, thank you! Feel free to let me know what you think/thought about the development of the games, and which one of all of them is your favourite.
I’m gonna go replay Curious Village now. It’s been so many years I barely remember the story, so let’s see if I remember any puzzles :D

Literal years ago (the first one I made, the DEH one, was made in August of 2021) I had an idea to make a full ten edit set of letters in musicals. But then... well, a lot of things happened and the project never got finished and in fact, I stopped making musical theatre gifs at all. Without any note or explanation, I just kind of disappeared, and then only recently resurfaced to start posting about Death Note. But while looking through my hard drive, I found these.
They were hard to make and I'm proud of them, but I also know the final four will never be made. I don't even know if I remember now what they were supposed to be. So here.
My final general musical theatre gifset and the farewell I owed you all years ago. This blog will remain, continuing to post about Death Note with a heavy preference to my personal favorite version (the musical) until the hyperfixation passes and then it will probably go dormant again, but I will always be around, even if I'm not posting. If you send an ask or a DM, I will almost always get back to you within 24 hours, usually even less, but if you want daily posts, then you'd have to go find me at @probablygayattorneys which is my most active sideblog, dedicated to the DS puzzle games of the aughts, primarily Professor Layton, Phoenix Wright, Hotel Dusk: Room 215 and Trace Memory/Another Code Recollection.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy the last of the musical theatre gifsets, and so long, farewell, auf Wiedersehen, goodbye.

Heads Up Seven Up WIP Game Is A Thing Apparently And I’ve Just Been Dragged Straight Into It by @sintheyokai
So you’re supposed to post 7 sentences of your most recent WIP and then tag 7 other people to do the same.
I uh. Have like 5 separate WIPs I’m working on, which I tend to bounce between because I get distracted easily and also I work at a Snail’s Pace.
So, uh… Collage time I guess???
WIP 1 - From a Paranatural fic I’m working on. 1 sentence.
“Oftentimes, Jean found himself thinking about the ocean.”
WIP 2 - From a Layton Brothers: Mystery Room fic I’ve had in the works for a while. I’d like to work more on it, but my schedule’s been packed. 1 sentence. Probably gonna workshop this one sentence in particular a little more but this is how it is on the document so.
“Fog gathered around street corners, and a dreary feeling followed Lucy through the threshold of Scotland Yard as she shook a few last raindrops off her umbrella.”
WIP 3 - From a Ralsei Deltarune Fic I need to finish. 5 sentences.
“He picked up a pillow from beside him—Pink, fluffy—and wrapped his arms around it. A familiar habit from before they arrived. When you have an empty kingdom, hugging pillows is about as close to real contact as you can get.
He wasn't sure how long he laid there—you tend to lose track of time in moments like these—but it was a while. He could feel it in the heaviness of his limbs, the weight in his arms as they clutched the pillow to his chest.”
IDK if I know 7 people to tag so I’m just gonna tag my friends lmao
@ectonephrine @a-lamp-shade-art @danny-is-a-cookie @coasty-vic
….I don’t think any more of my friends have tumblrs. Whoops. Anyway have fun y’all!!
#heads up seven up wip game#writing#wip#fanfic#I’m not gonna do fandom tags because these are tiny little snippets

Eh fuck it, since we don't know how long Twitter is going to last, I'm going to start randomly posting my thoughts on random ass video games here. Here's all the shit I've been playing a bunch recently.
Portal Reloaded: I legit don't know if this is an official Portal dlc or just a mod, but it's free, and it's so much fun. Do you like Portal? Do you want Portal Hard Mode (TM TM TM)? Get this funky little game. It's not quite as funny as the OG, but man are the puzzles Tough.
Divinity Original Sin II: Have I played Divinity 1? No. But I am having a ton of fun with this thing. I was not expecting to enjoy myself so much, especially considering my hatred of games with the fucking hotbars, or whatever that little UI thing is at the bottom. At the very least, it's turn based and not real time so I don't find it nearly as obnoxious. I've also been A) doing Multiplayer, and B) using a mod so that I can take all 6 of the named characters with me, which unfortunately does have the tradeoff of making the game a little too easy at times. Also, since you're not suppose to be able to have all of the characters in one playthrough certain characters just straight up will not speak to each other? Which is kind of disappointing. Come on, guys, it's a 60 hour game at minimum, it doesn't have the kind of replayability you think it does.
Professor Layton and the Last Spector: Oh, so THAT'S why plvsaa is like that. I was not expecting to adore these characters as much as I thought I would, but they are just so much fun. I haven't technically been playing, since I'm watching my friend's playthough on twitch, but the puzzle difficulty range is so wild to me. Anything from "What color is the umbrella" to "do some fucking AP Geometry fucko," which I feel like I'd find a bit frustrating, though I guess the worst of it is optional.
Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask (Not Finished): Can't give my final opinions here, but at minimum, the 3D graphics are a huge downgrade. I hate when visual novels decide to switch to 3D graphics. It's never going to be as charming as the sprites! Story-wise, I'm still deeply invested, and theorizing to hell and back is so much fun now that I'm getting into the swing of How Layton Games Do.
Zero Escape 999: Guys. This game drove me absolutely bonkers. I'll love any murder mystery visual novel put in front of me of course, but something about this game... Admittedly, it took me a few hours to get invested. I found the amount of talking a bit exhausting, especially when SO MUCH of it was dedicated to things like "Let's walk through this whole room trying doors, talk about it, and then start trying new doors." Like I don't need to know the logistics of "we're locked in a boat." I don't need to know where everyone is at all times. But once I went through one full playthrough, and could skip a lot of those boring logistical issues, I got SO into trying to figure out what was really happening. They really did give us the exact right amount of information to start figuring out what the Actual Plot was.
Zero Escape Virtue's Last Reward (Not Finished): I'm enjoying myself so much, but somehow, everything kind of feels like a downgrade? The 3D graphics (especially the lip flaps) suck ass, and there's so much stuff that feels like it's pulled from Danganronpa. Guys, I liked Danganronpa. I liked Zero Escape because it WASN'T Danganronpa. I don't know, I've hit my first real ending, so I'm hoping that it's just still waiting to impress me, but the main conflict just feels less personal this time around.
Dragon Age: Origins: I love playing watching my roommate play this game and then letting me make all of the narrative decisions. I just. I hate the gameplay, but the story is fun as heck. There are some weird writing choices, clearly, but the characters are fun to talk to and that's all that matters. It doesn't give me as strong found family vibes as other RPGs, but I still love them anyway.
Disco Elysium: You all know my thoughts on Disco Elysium. I love you Kim. Mostly, I'm just wondering what the fate of a potential sequel is going to be. I both want it and don't, but at the end of the day, if the original creators aren't able to wrest control from that game studio, I just worry the heart isn't going to be in the next one.
#j#i should be working#but i also was up at 4 am being Very Sick#so i think i can goof off a little today

what got you into layton ?
thank you for the ask!
hmm.. i got into layton when the apple app store featured LBMR in their editor's choice section. i was either 10 or 11 at the time so i don't remember it very well but i downloaded it and became OBSESSED with al!! lbmr was one of my very first hyperfixations so it holds an incredibly special place in my heart. unfortunately at the time, my family put a hold on any and all in-app purchases to save money. i did manage to convince my dad to get me the first case pack though, so i got to play up to case 6. i'd replay the cases i had access to over and over again though, and wonder about how i thought the game would end.
a little after that i got curious about what people online were saying about the game. i hopped on tumblr to see art and discussion about lbmr— which is when i found out about the rest of the games!
i immediately fell in love with the character of the professor, and thanks to some very kind and generous family friends, i soon had a nintendo ds to play the first trilogy with. i had trouble with the puzzles (of course) but loved the characters, art style, and stories to bits.
i think my interest went into dormancy when i was 13, but it recently came back when i replayed diabolical box after.. 6? 7 or so years and decided to replay all the other games! it occupies nearly every square inch of space in my brain nowadays and i couldn't be happier :D
#once again thank you for the ask!#twas fun to walk down memory lane...#PL is so. thinks so hard that all of the atoms in my body vibrate at such a specific frequency that i turn into sand and fall apart#asks
