Human-sized doll in the old ages?
(This is another Version of my original post that was inspire by Jason's doll, unlike Damian's. This one's for our Tim!)
My Original post for Damian's
-------------------------------------
The Drakes were in another trip to England as a new business trip concerning a new museum had taken place a Auction to very Old items lost in time, and for the Drake's it was an opportunity to find something new and all...but the only one who stands out the most was the Human-sized doll.
For a hundred years old Doll it was gorgeous, they hesitantly carried it out, after they bought it..it cost them a fortune but it was worth it.
The dress maybe been Billion's of dollars or even pounds due to its quality and design..if people sell it of course- but no stains, no rips of anything, as if it was just newly made..the only thing standing out the most was beautiful emerald gem necklace lace with unique designs of a Dragon flames. flickering a green flame
It was gorgeous, the designs of the eyes. Green emerald that you might think it glowed ( Well we never know)
The height of the doll was that of a child no older than the height of there Son, Timothy when he was 8..
Now that they think of it..there son was interested in photography lately, maybe this doll might be in good use for modeling..
Yeah they should send this as a early birthday present
(Jesus Christ you couple just realized that?)
-----------------------------------------------
According to the auction staff that had taken care of the doll for about fifty years,
It was actually the old man's family had been maintaining the doll passed over for about hundreds years ago,
This Doll was a Original, it wasn't a Replica or sorts to the real thing, This was The Real fortune, This Doll was said to be a request of a powerful and influencal Aristocrat house, said Unknown but Famous Duke held position of this Doll, As his Perfect Daughter
Talk about the creeps Janet Drake Got
-----------
Which why the Doll was said to be haunted by the Soul of the Young child that the Duke was heard obsessive wanted to be his perfect daughter,
Similar Cases said by guards hearing soft taps of heels or ruffled sounds of a gown being moved or even giggles, whispers, or even a full on conversation with a voice of a young child ,Three unlucky Guards onces have check and investigate it out, before being passed out and muttering glowing green eyes and freezing so hard that they may have been in alaska.
Well being the Drake couple they are just completely ignore the Staff caretaker and send it to there only son, Timothy
Its surprised they haven't been killed yet after they had just left that curse mummy int there Goddamn house when visiting ancient Egypt-
---------------------------------------------
Timothy wasn't dumb, he was very minded in what his “parents” gave to him in his Early gifts, it wasn't a trinket, or another Mummified corpse that was stuck in the basement or equipment his mother wanted him to use for activities...
It was a doll, by the looks of it.
It was a girl's doll, in a glass case, it was looking at him, with a smile..you could see a teeth- was it supposed to be teeth? So white...it reminded him of that fairytale book..Snow white
With a beautiful Gown, but the most was the necklace, huh..so this was a gift, after he had found the note containing some birthday pleasantries and blessings and pity writing..from his parents.
This gift was considerately chose by his parents...he thought to his mind that this would be just another batch of a trinket being left in the basement
Boy...was he totally wrong
----------------------------------
Dick wasn't a man to complained, he was decent atleast in his own perspective, yes the whole family is definitely something but he wouldn't trade this for the world, except for that is to question Tim's....Ehem stuff, the whole doll..was definitely creepy, after the ordeal, yes Jason is back, but not in good terms, and the whole fam known that Tim was hiding something from them, and how it turns out, this is why privacy exist, now he can't stop looking at that child doll...and the visible thumps of those heels.
--------------------------------
Damian was questioning his choices, maybe he need to properly and carefully using his words now, after convincing and maybe caught Drake red handed, he known Drake was different but not that different for having a doll with the same height as him and look so realistic, if ever he doesn't want to bother asking or taunting Drake (for now) and may he be excuse, he needs to go to the barn to check with animals there ( he somehow still got that charm)

Relationship: Spencer Reid x Reader
Fandom: Criminal Minds

Criminal Minds Masterlist: Here
Summary: Emily’s best friend from the FBI’s translation department has met someone from the BAU before, and with his eidetic memory, Spencer wishes that he could redo that night that everything went wrong.
Tumblr media
Author Oscar Wilde once said, “Ultimately the bond of all companionship, whether in marriage or in friendship, is a conversation.”
Emily Prentiss was scrambling to clean up her desk while the rest of her team watched. She seemed to be looking for something, but no one bothered to offer help. Prentiss was muttering to herself as she continued, and only stopped when she felt eyes on her.
“What?” She leveled at her friends and colleagues. JJ simply raised her eyebrows with a smile on her face, and Derek smirked as he chuckled. However, sitting across from them, Spencer was just now disengaging from the book on his desk.
“Oh nothing,” Morgan drawled out, fiddling with a pencil in his grasp. Rolling her eyes, Emily turned back to her desk rummaging until she pulled something out from the mess of files with an ‘aha’ look on her face. It was a book and it looked expense according to Spencer’s keen eye for books.
“What’s that?” JJ asked, dropping her files in favor of snooping through Emily’s hands.
“It’s a custom, leather bound copy of ‘The Portrait of Dorian Grey’ by Oscar Wilde. I’ve been holding onto it for months for a friend’s birthday present. We’re going out for drinks in a bit.” Prentiss explained, examining the book and making sure that it was still in pristine condition. Placing the book into a bag, it was hidden from sight as she prepared it for her celebrator.
“Ooo, someone hoping to get a little lovin?” Morgan teased, to which Emily rolled her eyes.
“Unfortunately for me, she’s straight. And fortunately for her, you’re not her type. Sorry.” But her tone was anything but. Morgan dramatically tapped his cheek in a faux slap, and swiveled in his chair from the ‘recoil.’ The group laughed at his antics, and Prentiss checked her watch once more.
“Looking for someone?” A smooth, feminine voice sounded behind the dark haired agent. Emily turned and joyously hugged her friend that had approached. They exchanged greetings quickly and let go.
“Let me introduce you to my team really quick.” She excitedly proclaimed, and pulled the other woman around to do so.
“This is Jennifer, but we just call her JJ.” The two women shook hands with polite smiles.
“This is Derek Morgan and I’m sorry.” Said agent had grasped the woman’s hand and had pressed a kiss to the back of her knuckles. They let go with a chuckle.
“And this is-” Emily was cut off.
“Dr. Spencer Reid.” Her friend finished for her. Although her tone was not filled with admiration or starstruck behavior; it was filled with contempt. His eyes widen and he breathlessly said her name in disbelief that she was there in front of him.
“It’s been a while.” He stated, fiddling with his tie and messing with his hair. She no longe held a smile on her face that made her automatically look younger and more beautiful.
“Yeah, not long enough. Can we go now? I’d prefer my birthday not be ruined.” She stated, turning to Emily with a deadpan look. But one of shock coated Prentiss’ face.
“This was the FBI doctor who stood you up?” The agent questioned as the other woman nodded and closed he eyes. The look on her face was not a happy one, while JJ and Morgan turned to Reid who was cringing with a nervous expression.
“The one and only.” Spencer was nervously scratching the back of his neck.
“Naughty boy.” Emily scolded.
“Listen, can we just go please?” She drew their attention once more to her as she tried to leave the bullpen.
“Yeah, no doubt. Let’s get going.” Prentiss grabbed her coat, and gift bag before ushering the woman out.
“Wait!” A voice called as the two women approached the glass doors of the BAU. Spencer had caught up to them, and they were not happy about being stopped.
“I’ll meet you at the elevator.” And with that, Emily left the two agents alone. Her friend was less than please, and tried to get her to stay, but it was in vain.
“Listen, I just wanted to say-” Spencer started, but never finished.
“You don’t need to say anything. It’s fine. I get if I’m not your type. Just would have been nice not to have been stood up three days before Christmas.” She stated, shrugging her shoulders and placing her hands in her jeans pockets in order to attempt to look nonchalant.
“No, I- I didn’t mean to um, stand you up.” Reid stumbled through, wringing his hands together.
“Then what would you call it? Because I distinctly remember sitting in that restaurant, in my nicest little black dress. And drinking wine while patrons and staff sent me looks of pity, while I sat there for three hours.” The longer she explained, the more Spencer cringed in on himself. It sounded worse than what he had imagined.
“I got called in on a case, and our phones didn’t get good reception. I meant to text you but when I tried to after we had come back, I couldn’t. I never could reach you to apologize or set up another chance. When that happened, I thought you wanted nothing to do with me so I never looked up your number to find out.” Spencer explained, fiddling with the back of his neck as he did. It looked like she was fighting an internal battle as she stood there, and took it all in.
“Can anyone else confirm this?” She asked, crossing her arms and looking at the doctor with a skeptical glance.
“Emily.” He nodded towards the agent that was trying not to eavesdrop on the conversation near the elevators. Standing there in silence for a minute more, she eventually dropped her head and hard expression.
“You really didn’t mean to stand me up?” Watching the doctor, she almost let out a giggle at how comical he shook his head.
“I swear, I didn’t mean to. I’m sorry that I ever gave you that idea.” Spencer reassured.
“Okay, okay. I appreciate you explaining, and accept your apology.” This time, she did giggle at the hopeful look on the young doctor’s face. Turning away, she made to meet up with Emily when he name was called yet again. Spencer came closer to where she had not quite reached her friend again.
“Is there anyway that I could get another chance for that date? Maybe this time with a better turn out?” He sounded so hopeful as he awaited her response. She thought a minute, and smirked as she stepped inside his personal bubble.
“Text me again, and we’ll see.” A kiss was pressed to his cheek, and he was stunned. Spencer felt himself raise a hand to touch the tingly area as the two women laughed as they entered the elevator. She wagged her fingers in a departing gesture, while he waved dumbly with his other hand.
When the women fully disappeared from view, Reid pulled out his phone and retrieved her number. He sent yet another text, and this time, it went through. It was followed with a promise to meet him for dinner tomorrow evening at this charming little diner that was not to far from Quantico. Spencer went back to his desk with a dumb smile on his face and could not even be bothered when people tried to find out what had happened. All that matter was that he had a chance to make things right.
“I learn from my mistakes. It’s a very painful way to learn, but without pain, the old saying is, there’s no gain.” Johnny Cash

It's the right time to begin new projects! If you had any doubts about your ability to manifest your dreams, leave them behind. In fact, the more self-confidence you have, the more success you experience! Fortunately, the angels can boost your inner strength if you’ll call upon them for help. Although you may not feel ready to move forward upon your path, you’re actually more prepared than you realize. Your life experiences have trained you for this moment, and the opportunities available to you at this time are magical. It’s not necessary to take any more classes or read any more books, which would only delay you from walking through the door that’s presently open for you. Take focused action upon any plans you may have been preparing for.
Additional messages for the pile = No more procrastination! Magical occurrences. Concentrated efforts. Unexpected resources.

Positive thinking is essential right now. Your own obsessive, negative thoughts are the true culprits behind the trouble you fear. Release your guilt, and realize that regret is a wasted emotion. Turn your attention to the amazing possibilities for the future and leave the past behind. If you’re having unpleasant dreams at this time, write them in a journal, bless them for their desire to inform you, and then send them to the angels. If depression is an issue, encourage those affected to seek professional counseling.
Additional messages for the pile = Sleeplessness. Racing thoughts. Expecting the worst. Self-fulfilling prophecies. Worry. Stress-related illness.

It’s time to review your plans, according to this card, and look at things from a new perspective. Ask yourself: is it possible that a different approach would work better? Although it may feel like events have come to a standstill, this is temporary. So, make use of the extra time you’ve been given to rethink your strategies. You may need to step outside of the norm and the mainstream right now and embrace your unique and eclectic beliefs or attitudes. It’s also a good moment to be generous with your time, attention, and gifts.
Additional messages for the pile = Epiphanies. Selflessness. Unexpected life changes. The need for patience. The power that lies in being oneself. Unusual solutions.

In August, a swarm of hopeless and horny romantics on Reddit disputed the pros and cons of Bumble, the dating app that requires women to make the first move.
“Besides barren wastelands like [Plenty of Fish] crawling with bots, scammers, hookers, and psychos, this app has to be the worst,” one user posted.
Said another, “Lots of fun conversations but ghost city when trying to get a number or plan a date.”
Other Redditors openly shared how they met their partners on the app, but the consensus was unequivocally clear: Bumble, like the majority of dating apps currently on the market, is bad. “If Bumble is the worst dating app, then what’s the best alternative—Tinder, Hinge?” asked one user. “They all suck so which one sucks the least?”
After a decade of swiping left and sliding into DMs, many people are now longing for a simplification of the dating pool. As with so much about the internet, online dating made everything accessible all at once and turned socializing into something of a competitive sport. Waves, swipes, likes, and roses embodied the desires of a generation of users ravenous to find connection however they could.
But the glow has worn off, and there is growing sentiment among young people that dating apps, once considered the future of romantic connection, are broken.
Facebook Dating is all old people. Raya is full of posturing. Hinge, which bills itself as the “dating app designed to be deleted,” conceals its most attractive daters behind a $50 monthly subscription (or, at least, that’s the theory according to a handful of TikTok users). As for Tinder, the app that revolutionized online dating when it launched in 2012, it “has become the dating air, or maybe the pollution, we all breathe,” writer Allison P. Davis observed last year, reflecting on the Olympian level of difficulty modern dating presents for many people thirsty for connection.
Dating app disillusionment is felt most strongly among college students, according to a new study from Axios and research firm Generation Lab. Most are forgoing regular app usage (79 percent) in favor of in-person connection, a fact that seems at odds with Gen Z’s innate gift for virtual expression on platforms like Snapchat and Twitch.
“Dating apps promised a quick fix to the messiness of love,” says Carolina Bandinelli, a professor at the University of Warwick whose research focuses on the digital culture of love. “Their promotional narratives spoke about reducing love to a simple procedure. Dating apps promised a love that ‘works.’ But they do not ‘work’ as they are supposed to, yet they create the expectation of love as an efficient business. Users get frustrated with this.”
That young people in college are choosing to forgo digital connection is not as shocking as the study suggests, says Paul Eastwick, a psychologist at UC Davis who specializes in the nature of attraction. “College students are in the fortunate position of being surrounded by many similarly aged peers, and their social networks are in a constant state of flux. Online dating sites and apps are typically going to be especially useful for folks whose networks feel frozen and who don’t have as many opportunities to meet new people through friends of friends,” he tells me. “So it makes sense.”
The culture of online dating will continue to evolve, as it has over the past decade. Although many young people are taking a more traditional alternative to apps—while also relying on options like Date Me docs—that has not stopped Gen Z from being vocal about the culture that surrounds modern relationships.
Since the publication of her 2008 book, Hooking Up: Sex, Dating, and Relationships on Campus, Kathleen Bogle, a sociologist at LaSalle University in Philadelphia, says the biggest evolution in dating culture was prompted by women, who have brought more transparency to the dating process. “Platforms like TikTok have created space for women to upload videos talking about their issues with the hookup culture, such as not getting what they want relationally, feeling used, the double standard, and, in some cases, the lack of sexual pleasure for women,” Bogle says. “In previous decades, women may have felt this way but only talked about it with their own friendship circle, not online to thousands of followers.”
Online dating is now a multibillion-dollar industry. From 2016 to 2021, global subscription rates for apps increased by 81 percent. Analysts predict that despite market saturation and a current decline in user growth, companies will pivot to monetization by any means, a move that could further spoil what people believe is an already poor user experience.
The current techlash is a byproduct of the environment dating apps have contributed to over the past decade. We are inching toward what Bandinelli refers to as a period of post-romantic love in our digital society, where conveniences such as dating apps play a hand in rewriting “the ethical codes of love with the objective of building a notion of love deprived of pain, loss, and negative emotions.” In this new notion of love, if it should even be called that, the human experience that characterizes dating, its highs and lows, is flattened through machined exchanges.
In a quest to streamline romantic connection, it seems we are losing all that makes it worthy of pursuit. “With new technologies, there is always a period in which they seem to take over what was in place before,” Bandinelli says of then and now. “Then there is a counterforce, and people want to retrieve what seems to have been lost.”

Early Non-Native Accounts of Bigfoot in North America
There are many accounts of Native American encounters with Bigfoot recorded in history. However, European settlers and their descendants also had Bigfoot experiences. Here are some that occurred before the Bigfoot craze in the 1950s popularized the idea.
A white woman named Rachel Plummer, who was taken captive by a Comanche raiding band in Texas in the year 1836, is credited with making one of the earliest and most prominent references to Bigfoot by a non-Native American. After the Comanche set Plummer free in 1838, she wrote and published a narrative detailing her traumatic experience as a captive. She went into enormous detail about the creatures that lived in the prairies, in addition to providing specifics about their everyday lives and the roles that men, women, and children had in their lives. Among these animals were wolf packs, bears, elk, and even what her captors referred to as "man-tigers."
Tumblr media
According to what she reported, "The Indians claim that they have discovered several of them in the mountains." They say, "They describe them as having the characteristics and proportions of a man." People report that they walk upright and stand between eight and nine feet tall. It was not until nearly a century later that five gold prospectors in Oregon documented the existence of a beast that was very similar to the one described. The men, venturing into the wilderness in 1924, claimed that an "ape man" had accosted one of their party members, Fred Beck, earlier that day, and had shot the creature, inflicting injuries as he fled. Later that night, a larger group of these animals battered the prospectors' hut with rocks and boulders. The men were certain that they were exacting their vengeance for the previous shooting that had taken place. The animals attempted to smash down the door of the cabin, but fortunately, the guys were able to delay their progress.
As soon as the sun began to rise, the apemen fled, and the five terrified prospectors made their way to the closest settlement. It was believed to such an extent that the United States Forest Service initiated an investigation and dispatched two rangers back into the forest with Beck to see if they could find any evidence of the beasts or even the beasts themselves. Despite the lack of evidence, the story quickly spread throughout the Western region, leading to the continued use of Ape Canyon as the name of the alleged attack site. Buffalo Bill and Daniel Boone, two of the most famous frontier folk heroes in the United States, have legends about Bigfoot in their backs. The Pawnee Indians of the Plains presented Buffalo Bill with a gigantic thigh bone as a gift, as described in his book, The Life of Honorable William F. Cody. Buffalo Bill also mentions this experience. According to their assertions, the bone belonged to "a race of man... whose size was approximately three times that of an ordinary man."
Tumblr media
Daniel Boone's account went one step further when he told a story about how he shot and killed a "hairy giant" that was ten feet tall in Kentucky. He referred to the beast as a "Yahoo," which is a reference to the brutes that resembled humans that appeared in Jonathan Swift's classic novel Gulliver's Travels. As a result of the 1950s discovery of footprints in Bluff Creek, California, the search for Bigfoot experienced a surge in popularity. These tracks were believed to be the creature's. In the hopes of discovering some evidence that Bigfoot does in fact exist, a large number of people, including cryptozoologists, scientists, adventurers, and other Bigfoot fans, traveled to various regions in the state of Washington and Northern California. Despite the lack of conclusive evidence, people maintained their belief in the existence of a hominid that had been absent from human history for a significant period.

Storia Di Musica #266 - Dead Can Dance, Aion, 1990

— 𝕯𝖊𝖒𝖔𝖓𝖎𝖈 𝖓𝖆𝖒𝖊𝖘 —
Before introducing the names of my characters, I must emphasize that they all originate from ancient Greece. The reason for this is that the characters actually have roots in Greece (taking into account their location and development within Makai), so it would be ideal if their demonic names came from this ethnicity regardless of their nationality.
Having this in mind, these names would only be used within Makai and characterized as their true and original names, since their secondary names would only work as a cover in the human realm to camouflage and blend in with people. With all this I would also like to add that I headcanon that these demonic names could be given away at their maturity celebration (when they are able to drink blood for the first time) which would be at the age of 10, meanwhile, they would use their human name as an alias.
🫧 Irina: Thalia — Meaning "the merry one" or "the flourishing one," this name comes from one of the 9 muses in Greek mythology, daughters of Zeus and Mnemosyne. This muse presided the comedy and idyllic poetry*, besides that it was one of the three Graces.
This name was given to Irina due to her development and a rather cheerful and gentle personality during her childhood, as well as being quite dreamy and charm due to the romantic fantasy books she read, poetry being one of her all-time favorite genre.
* Idyllic poetry is based on the romantic and sometimes erotic feeling of love, although it does not have dialogue, it comes from the Greek "eidyllion" or small image according to its translation. Of a brief and simple composition, but very expressive that extols a life normally field, giving way to the tranquility and sensuality of an environment, state or moment.
Tumblr media
🫧 Zazu: Keelan — Although the origin of this name is unknown, its meaning would be "thin" or "skinny", however, in Gaelic it would be "slender" or "fair".
The reason why Zazu received this name was simply as a taunt or insult that the villagers in the area he lived in used to say, later becoming his final name. These taunts logically attacked his physique, which was quite thin, even becoming malnourished due to the scarcity of food he ate at that time, obviously also appearing very weak.
Tumblr media
🫧 Arnold: Basil — It comes from the Greek name 'Basileos' which means "royal", therefore its meaning would be "king" which alleges that he is a powerful and ambitious man. However, interestingly it also means "basil" like the herbaceous grass. According to the legend, there was a basil plant in the place in Jerusalem where Empress Eelena of Constantinople found the True Cross.
The reason for this name was mainly due to the strong and tough character that Arnold presented at an early age, showing great leadership skills and ambition that made him stand out among his other brothers as the best option to inherit the throne. However, it also had a background with basil, which is characteristic for attracting health, fortune and money; as well as being a good luck charm.

🫧 Vera: Calliope — It was another of the 9 muses, prestige of epic poetry* and eloquence besides being the main muse. Its meaning is "the one with the beautiful voice".
Although Vera has been a former human, she was able to be gifted with a demonic name after her transformation into a vampire thanks to Arnold, who gave her this name due to her intelligence and cunning to convince people only by speaking, coming to have a very sweet and serene voice for him being able to listen for hours straight to Vera talking about the most absurd thing.
* The Greek nobility was very fond of hearing the heroic warfare deeds of their ancestors, with which they identified. The epic poems (from the Greek word epos, "narration") that recounted them were composed and transmitted orally by itinerant poets, called aedos or rhapsodists.
Tumblr media
🫧 Callie: Nefeli — This name comes from the Greek 'nefos', which means "cloud". According to Greek mythology, Nephele was a cloud nymph created by Zeus from a cloud in the image of Hera. Mother of the centaurs, she is also the goddess of hospitality and appears in the story of Frixos and Elli and in the myth of the golden fleece.
The origin of her demonic name is more attached to the Greek mythology, since Camille was born as the spitting image of her mother Vera. So inspired by the myth, they decided to give her this name as she was the nymph with the image of Vera.
Tumblr media
🫧 Belmont: Thaddeus — It's a name derived from Theodorus of the greek 'theos' "God" and 'doron' "gift; thus being its meaning "the gift of God" although "brave heart" is also attributed to its derivation.
Belmont was not given this name yet since he is only 7 years old, but when the time comes for his ceremony this would definitely be his demonic name due to his adventurous and energetic spirit, being quite a daring and unscrupulous child.
Tumblr media
🫧 Herkus: Iasonas — Coming from the greek 'iason' its meaning would be "the healer". In Greek mythology, Iason was the Thessalian hero who led the Argonauts and went in search of the Golden Fleece, in order to regain the throne of Iolcos, his homeland.
This name was given to him by his own mother wishing that Herkus could get the throne since despite being a bastard son, he still has the right of inheritance even though the chance is quite low due to his reputation.

HEART'S FATE - CHAPTER 23
Tumblr media
*Warning: Adult Content*
Filled with the unlikely combination of sushi and ice-cream, Martin Hunter and his four children bid Joseph and Astrid Hunter a fond and lingering farewell.
As Martin hugs his mother, it seems as if there's something more she wants to say but she only shakes her head and ruffles his hair, the way she did when he was young and simply couldn't help being a small, exasperating boy.
"It's good to see you smile, Marty," is all she says. "You call me anytime you want to talk."
Martin promises that he will ‘while suffering another pang of guilt for keeping my latest troubles to myself’ and then his parent's ride-share pulls up at the curb and they say goodbye.
"Is everything alright?" Skylar West asks, as they walk down the street to his van with the kids. "You got quiet all of a sudden."
"Just tired," Martin says, his new excuse for everything.
Skylar makes a small, noncommittal sound but lets it lie.
At home, Martin has one more birthday surprise for Flora and Miguel and presents them with a single, carefully wrapped gift, though from the way their eyes light up, he doesn't know why he bothered with the wrapping paper.
They tear it off carefully, nonetheless, as if hardly daring to hope and reveal a brand new Nintendo Switch bundle and two gift cards, each with enough cash on it for them to buy a game of their choice.
Amid the ensuing exclamations of delight and barrage of hugs, Martin laughs.
"You should thank Sky, too," he says. "He's at least partly responsible for this."
In that, without his help, Martin would have missed his deadline for sure and no more advances would mean no more money, which would mean no Nintendo Switch.
Skylar waves the children off with a laugh as they turn their gratitude on him.
"Don't thank me yet," he says. "I have something for you both, as well."
Rising, he leans down and pulls out two wrapped gifts from beneath the couch, handing one to Flora and one to Miguel.
"Go on, open them."
With an exchange of curious glances, the pair obey and sit in stunned silence for a moment at what each reveals.
Miguel holds a professional-grade art supplies kit and Flora a beautiful leather-bound journal and a gift-certificate to the local bookstore.
"A fine artist deserves fine tools," Skylar says to Miguel. "And Flora, from what Ms. Buckley tells me, you share your father's talent with words. A writer should read and read widely."
"Sky..."
Martin shakes his head at him, imagining what he must have spent.
"Don't look so alarmed," Skylar says, laughing. "I've not broken the bank. That art kit is made largely of my own supplies and the cost of a few books isn't much. The library is wonderful but there's nothing like owning a copy of your favorites. Besides, some would say that supporting a local book-seller is its own reward."
Martin can't exactly argue with that.
Spring Lakes is fortunate to have several independent bookstores and his own brother, Noah Hunter, manages one.
After thanking Skylar, Flora and Miguel occupy themselves with setting up the Switch while Nico and Rio look on eagerly.
With the Hunter children thus entertained, Martin beckons to Skylar, who follows him outside to the garage.
"You're upset," Skylar observes, frowning. "Should I not have given the children gifts? I only thought..."
"It's not that," Martin says quickly. "The gifts were very thoughtful. In fact, they were perfect."
Martin: ‘Too perfect. Just like you.’
"What, then?"
Martin turns away, afraid he won't be able to keep the muscles in his face from betraying what he feels and examines the tall, French windows Skylar had recently installed.
He'd set up an easel in front of them and a half-finished painting rests on the board.
It's an abstract swirl of blues and greens, like a restless sea and it leaves Martin with an unsettled feeling.
"According to Google, your kingdom doesn't exist," he says.
"Ah. You looked me up."
Skylar sounded amused and Martin shrinks inward, defensively.
"Can you blame me?"
"Not at all."
Skylar’s amusement isn't unkind and he enters Martin’s personal space carefully, resting a hand on his shoulder.
"According to Google, werewolves don't exist, either," he points out.
Martin faces him.
"What are you saying?"
Skylar smiles.
"My home is not on any maps and my people... Well, my people are as much the stuff of stories as are yours."
"Please don't play games with me," Martin says, hating how vulnerable he sounds. "Just tell me the truth."
Skylar’s smile fades and he lets his hand drop to his side.
"Very well. You won't find Thassos on a map because it's not on land. It's beneath the sea. My people are merfolk and I, specifically, am a siren, one who carries magic in his voice, though, as I've said, my mother is several magnitudes more powerful. Magic tends to favor the female line."
Martin stares at Skylar as he absorbs this.
"That's what you would have shown me at the lake?"
"Yes. Like you, I have two forms. Neither is my 'true' self, as both are true, my land and aquatic, shapes. You may think of merfolk as 'Fae of the sea,' though we have our own magic and our own unique gifts. I, moreover, like many of my kind, am half-human in nature."
Martin thinks about this and all it entails and Skylar gives him the time to do so.
"You use your voice to hypnotize people," Martin concludes.
Skylar frowns.
"I suppose you could say so."
"Every time you speak?"
Skylar’s brows lift as the strain in Martin’s tone betrays his meaning.
"No, certainly not. The Voice can be an instrument, a tool, or a weapon but it must be used carefully and with intention. Martin, I'd never use it on you or your children."
"Then that lullaby you sang for Nico and Rio, that wasn't magic?"
The accusation in Martin’s voice is unintentionally sharp and he flinches.
Skylar frowns.
"I... Yes, I suppose it was but only the tiniest bit. Surely there is little as harmless as a lullaby."
Irrational tears sting Martin’s eyes and he turns away again, willing himself to speak evenly despite the tightness in his throat.
"It worked on me, too."
"Of course it did, you were tired."
"You don't understand."
"Then tell me, Martin. Help me understand. I swear I wasn't keeping anything from you to trick or hurt you. I fully intended to tell you everything. You have my word."
"And what is the word of a siren worth?" Martin asks, not bitterly but with a bleak hopelessness in his tone.
"I would never make you do something against your will. If I tried, you'd know it."
Martin doesn't answer and after a moment he hear Skylar release a breath.
"Martin, what is this about?" he asks quietly. "As a Wolf yourself and given the eccentricities of your extended family, you can't be that surprised to learn that merfolk exist or hold it against me for being cautious about to whom I reveal myself and how. Unless you have something against fish."
A ragged laugh escapes Martin, who faces Skylar again, having at least partly collected himself.
"It's not you, it's me," he says.
Skylar’s brows shoot up.
"Well now, there's a line no one wants to hear from their date."
"That's not what I mean," Martin says quickly. "What I mean is... I'm broken. Elena broke me and she's still fucking with my head. I've been thinking and I'm almost hoping the paternity test comes back negative. Because if Nico and Rio are mine, then it means..."
Martin covers his eyes with his hand, unable to look at him.
"She took away your power, she used you without your consent."
Martin nods, still covering his eyes, as if unwilling to see the truth.
"Sometimes she'd give me pills to help me sleep, sometimes for pain. Sometimes I think she just slipped them in my food or my drink. I don't know what they were but I'm pretty sure she drugged me more than once. I trusted her, at first because she was a doctor and my mate and then because I didn't have a choice. How can I trust someone who can sing me to sleep after that?"
Skylar doesn't say anything for so long that, at last, Martin is compelled to look up at him.
He's just watching Martin, his sea-green eyes...
Martin: ‘It makes sense now, why I'm reminded of the sea every time I look at him’
They are lit with a curious and thoughtful expression.
"What?"
"You know, I think I'd be willing to give up my Voice for you, Martin Hunter," he says.
Martin can't help laughing.
"Like the Little Mermaid?"
Skylar’s expression remains serious.
"Perhaps. Can I convince you that I love you without words?"
Martin’s own expression goes a bit slack.
"Love me?"
Skylar nods but keeps his mouth shut.
"I... I suppose you can try," Martin stammers.
Smiling, Skylar closes the distance between them and rests his hands on Martin’s hips.
Heat floods the single father’s body, the sudden warmth almost shocking compared to the chill that seems to have infected him.
"Your magic... It's really all in your voice?" Martin asks suspiciously.
Skylar nods.
"But in the sound, right? Not in your mouth?"
Amused, Skylar shakes his head and draws Martin closer but he doesn't kiss him.
Instead, he just holds Martin lightly in his arms, giving him plenty of room to decide what to do next.
If Martin wants to step away, Skylar will let him go and if Martin wants to move closer, Skylar will welcome him.
And in that gentle, undemanding space, Martin finds a seed of trust.
He presses his body to Skylar’s and rests his head on the beautiful young man’s shoulder.
Skylar’s arms tighten around Martin, not possessively but as a protective cage in which to rest.
Like Martin told Skylar, he’s already broken.
Martin: ‘If he thinks he can hold the pieces together, I suppose I could do worse than to let him try.’

fun fact: the ending of the mini series was shot in september 1989!
discover that and more facts below! ;)
Once again, The Phantom of the Opera has been sighted, according to reports from the capital. Last fall, the masked figure in full evening regalia made a sudden appearance on the roof of the Paris Opera House. Fortunately, he was cornered by the police and unmasked.
This scene, shot last September, is the climax of a four-hour mini-series, adapted by the playwright Arthur Kopit from Gaston Leroux's 1910 novel and starring Burt Lancaster and Charles Dance; Teri Polo, a relative newcomer, plays Christine, the young singer who becomes the object of the Phantom's ardor. The initial two-hour installment will be presented next Sunday evening at 9 on NBC, with the conclusion the following night.
Last summer and fall, the veteran British stage and film director Tony Richardson, a man not fond of heights, filmed from every angle of the Opera House, right up to the gables that rise some 160 feet above the street, and at a stone quarry outside Paris, where the Phantom's watery domain was re-created.
The atmosphere of a mysterious habitat, from backstage to underground lagoon, made Leroux's Phantom a legend and the Paris Opera the most famous haunted house of the century. Even though the Phantom spooked the Opera House's staff, threatening to kill off those who got in his way, the novel was not a mere horror tale but a love story about a disfigured creature with a passion for music, who is infatuated with a gifted young singer.
Mr. Kopit, whose stage works include ''Oh Dad, Poor Dad, Mamma's Hung You in the Closet and I'm Feeling So Sad,'' ''Indians'' and ''Wings,'' has brought out the romantic theme, playing on hidden motivations that he feels are close to the spirit of the original. It certainly makes for a more modern, nuanced ''Phantom,'' full of Freudian surprises and even fun.
''The key to my adaptation,'' said Mr. Kopit, ''was that Erik, the Phantom, falls in love with Christine, the girl with the beautiful voice.'' It took him, however, a year to plot his approach. ''Of course, I had seen the old Lon Chaney movie and the Claude Rains movie,'' he explained. ''I saw them again and realized I remembered them as being better than they were. What had haunted me was a dim recollection of a girl singing above and a dangerous figure lurking below - a sense of forbidden sensuality.''
Mr. Kopit's real inspiration was a vision of, as he put it, ''an enchanted place of the imagination'' that came to him from Jean Cocteau's ''Beauty and the Beast.'' Accordingly, he created a family for the Phantom, a sad, secret history that makes Erik's father, Carriere - played by Mr. Lancaster - a pivotal character.
''Carriere is a composite of two characters from the novel, the Opera manager and the Persian, a man who always knew the Phantom's whereabouts. Burt's role makes it more human; he's the link between the different strands of the story. In all other versions Erik comes to the Opera - I wanted him born there. Why is the manager so kind to him? Why does Erik fall in love with Christine's voice? I knew there must be more to the story. So, I made the manager his secret father, the lover of Erik's mother, a famous singer who had gone mad. This explains the boy's love of music - Christine is his answered prayer, the dimly remembered presence of his mother.''
In the novel, the manager and staff had treated the Phantom almost as a mascot, reserving his box at the Opera, giving him bonbons. When a new manager attempts to have him evicted, the trouble starts. In Mr. Kopit's version, too, chandeliers crash, Christine is abducted and the corpses pile up. ''You have to have these things,'' he said, ''but I was out to get at the deeper relationships. It was an astonishing journey for a writer, because I didn't impose my ideas but discovered these characters as if they really existed, and I had to put the story together.''
Mr. Kopit, who wrote the book for the 1982 Broadway musical ''Nine,'' had written a libretto for a musical based on ''The Phantom of the Opera,'' but in 1985, the rights went into the public domain and he was beaten to the punch by Andrew Lloyd Webber.
''When Lloyd Webber's show opened in London, that was the end of mine,'' said Mr. Kopit. ''I was devastated because I deeply loved my version. I feel that the story never achieved its potential as a Gothic romance - women swoon, men die of love - and I like to think that Gaston Leroux would approve of the changes I made.''
On the set of the mini-series, Mr. Richardson, the opposite of the typically high-strung, pressured TV director, seems to move in slow motion. Wearing bleached jeans low on his hipless form, he takes time with each of the actors, cajoling them in his singsong voice and improvising changes in the shooting schedule when it suits him. Today, he has devised a prank on Mr. Lancaster: The actor has referred to the director, who tends to wring and flap his hands a lot, as ''the surgeon''; so, Mr. Richardson has sent out for some surgical gloves to wear.
While technicians set up the scene for the afternoon's filming, Mr. Richardson dons the rubber gloves. Unfortunately, Mr. Lancaster is so engrossed in learning his lines - hunks of very fin-de-siecle-sounding dialogue - the joke is lost on him.
''Burt has pages and pages to learn, so he's preoccupied,'' Mr. Richardson says. Indeed, there seems to be a contest going on: Mr. Kopit keeps adding dialogue; as soon as his back is turned, Mr. Richardson trims it down. Mr. Kopit haunts the set - today he is in the costume of a police officer - to watch over details.
''This is supposed to be 19th-century dialogue, so I don't want anybody making it up,'' he said. During a lunch break, Mr. Richardson explains that, for him, ''working for television is like making a movie on a low budget, shooting a certain amount of film in a limited time. I had done the Beryl Markham mini-series on location in Africa, in natural surroundings. For 'Phantom,' everything has to be staged and lighted. The camera moves all the time, the atmosphere is being created all the time. We are creating a fantasy, a big romantic love story.''
Mr. Richardson did his casting in London, New York and Paris: Jean-Pierre Cassel is in hot pursuit as Inspector Ledoux; Andrea Ferreol plays Carlotta, the diva fury who sings off-key, and Ian Richardson is her comically self-important husband.
As a boy growing up in New York City, Mr. Lancaster had been so terrified by Lon Chaney's performance in the 1925 ''Phantom'' that he ran all the way home from the movie theater, convinced that the Phantom was on his heels.
''Now I don't see movies any more,'' he shakes his head, ''not even my own. But I used to go all day, and my brothers had to come dig me out every night.''
Over the years, huge rocks from the quarry of Mello, a rural village 38 miles north of Paris, have been used to repair Notre Dame Cathedral. Mello's 8,000-square-foot cave is proving a fine site to stand in as the Phantom's subterranean kingdom. John-Kristian Alsaker, the production's designer, is especially pleased with the lagoon, created by piping in 50 tons of water. Painters and carpenters are putting last touches to a barge that looks as if it might have been Cleopatra's.
The designer has also transformed a stonecutter's lodge into the hideaway where Erik sequesters Christine. Chiffon curtains float like cobwebs over a canopy bed. Mr. Lancaster sits, bundled in a greatcoat against the quarry's cold dampness, poring over his lines. Like a true trouper, the 76-year-old actor prefers to commit his lines to memory and shuns a Teleprompter standing nearby.
Mr. Richardson paces, overseeing a flashback sequence in which Mr. Lancaster recounts how he loved and lost Erik's mother. The director expresses impatience with the kind of spelling out and repetition needed for television: ''You have to allow for a different rhythm when you do television; you're not able to do the same things. The format of a feature film has much more momentum. But I love this script - it's a great story.'' he says.
Today's shoot takes place in the Opera's second-level basement, where Erik chases Christine. Mr. Dance has made Erik an urbane, self-deprecating figure, a man of wit. His 6-foot-3 frame wrapped in a black cloak, the actor perspires under one of the Phantom's six masks. ''Erik changes faces according to his mood,'' he explains.
Off the set, Mr. Dance likes to caper and camp it up, trying out fiendish laughs on Ms. Polo, but actually the actor, who started out at the Royal Shakespeare Company, takes his part very seriously:
''Wearing a mask means you have to depend much more upon body language than eye language. Erik is a man steeped in theatricality - his whole wardrobe has come out of the Opera House costume department. I see him as a child, an innocent - I never think of him as being a murderous maniac. He's alone in a world he's created for himself, and into this world of music comes this girl with an exquisite voice.''
After the chase scene comes a long conspiracy sequence between Mr. Dance and Mr. Lancaster. Erik complains that the off-key Carlotta and her officious husband are ruining the Opera; he will have to ''kill them off.'' Carriere begs him to calm down.
Because of unwanted noises in the resonant basement, the actors resume several times. ''Very good, extraordinary,'' Mr. Richardson says. ''Well, I'd like to do another one, without noises,'' says Mr. Dance.
''You want more life? More vitality?'' asks Mr. Lancaster after the next take.
Mr. Richardson twiddles his thumbs and wags his hands. ''That was very good,'' he says. ''Extraordinary.''
And they do another take.
THE FASCINATION OF 'PHANTOM'
What is there about Gaston Leroux's potboiler - more suave than sinister - that has made it such a target for takeover? From Universal's 1925 silent version, starring Lon Chaney, film makers have squeezed the story of ''The Phantom of the Opera'' for all its bogeyman worth.
''The Lon Chaney film,'' says Arthur Kopit, ''was the best of the lot - the first in the horror genre, yet it had mystery.''
A 1943 version with Claude Rains was snubbed by cinephiles but successfully scared a new generation; Herbert Lom tried his hand in 1962, and Maximilian Schell in 1983. The 1960's opened the way to a certain vulgarization; the French came up with a new twist: Juliette Greco as the Phantom haunting the Louvre, and the kitsch British stage production ''Phantom of the Paradise'' became a Brian DePalma cult film in 1974.
The success of Mr. Lloyd Webber's musical - it is now into its third year on Broadway - has inspired others. Menahem Golan has produced a gentrified Grand Guignol version with Robert Englund, the vengeful Freddy of ''Nightmare on Elm Street'' fame, freshly manicured. And now Universal has decided to tint, not colorize, its original and reissue the film for the home-video market; the music track will boast operatic voices and an orchestra under the supervision of the rock musician Rick Wakeman.

What Are the 5 Things for Gift Giving?

What Are the 5 Things for Gift Giving?
Tumblr media
Did you know that according to a recent survey, 78% of people believe that giving a thoughtful gift is more important than the price tag?
When it comes to gift giving, we all want to make sure our presents are meaningful and appreciated. But with so many options out there, it can be overwhelming to choose the perfect gift.
That's why we're here to help you narrow it down to the five essential things you should consider when picking out a gift.
So, whether you're shopping for a birthday, holiday, or just because, keep reading to discover the key elements that will make your gift truly unforgettable.
Key Takeaways
Consider the recipient's interests and hobbies when selecting a gift
Personalize the gift to make it extra special and create an emotional connection
Focus on quality over quantity, emphasizing the thought and effort put into selecting a high-quality gift
Think about the occasion and the message you want to convey, tailoring the gift accordingly
Don't forget about the presentation and packaging to enhance the overall gift-giving experience.
Consider the Recipient's Interests and Hobbies
When choosing a gift for someone, it's essential to consider their interests and hobbies to ensure that your present is thoughtful and meaningful. Gift ideas that align with their passions show that you have taken the time to understand and appreciate what makes them tick. Whether it's a book on their favorite subject, a cooking class for the aspiring chef, or a new set of art supplies for the budding artist, these gifts demonstrate your thoughtfulness and consideration.
Budget considerations are also crucial when selecting a gift. You want to find something special without breaking the bank. Fortunately, there are plenty of affordable options that cater to different interests and hobbies. Look for unique items that fit within your budget, such as personalized accessories, DIY kits, or subscription boxes tailored to their interests. These gifts not only show your attention to detail but also provide ongoing enjoyment and enrichment.
Personalize the Gift to Make It Extra Special
To make your gift truly unforgettable, add a personal touch that reflects the recipient's unique personality and interests. Personalizing a gift not only shows thoughtfulness, but it also creates an emotional connection between you and the recipient. By adding sentimental value to the gift, you're making it extra special and meaningful.
There are many ways to personalize a gift. You could consider engraving the recipient's name or initials on the item, or perhaps include a handwritten note expressing your heartfelt sentiments. Another idea is to choose a gift that relates to a special memory or shared experience you have with the recipient. For example, if you both bonded over a love for photography, gifting a personalized photo album filled with pictures of your adventures together would be a beautiful gesture.
When personalizing a gift, it's essential to pay attention to the recipient's interests and preferences. Think about their hobbies, favorite colors, or even their favorite quote. By incorporating these elements into the gift, you're showing that you truly know and understand them.
Focus on Quality Over Quantity
Quality should always take precedence over quantity when it comes to gift-giving. While it may be tempting to buy multiple gifts in an attempt to impress the recipient, it's the thought and effort put into selecting a high-quality gift that truly matters. When you focus on quality, you not only show that you value the recipient, but you also ensure that your gift will have a long-lasting impact.
Here are four reasons why quality should be your top priority when choosing a gift:
Importance of craftsmanship: A well-crafted gift reflects the skill and dedication of the artisan who created it. Whether it's a handcrafted piece of jewelry or a beautifully designed leather wallet, the attention to detail and quality materials used speak volumes about the thoughtfulness behind the gift.
Long-lasting impact: A gift of high quality is built to withstand the test of time. Unlike cheaply made items that quickly wear out or lose their appeal, a quality gift will continue to be treasured and enjoyed for years to come.
Value over quantity: When you give a high-quality gift, you're showing the recipient that they're worth investing in. Rather than focusing on the number of gifts, emphasize the significance of the one gift you choose.
Symbol of appreciation: A quality gift is a tangible expression of your appreciation for the recipient. It demonstrates that you have taken the time to carefully select something that aligns with their tastes, interests, and values.
Think About the Occasion and the Message You Want to Convey
For a truly meaningful gift, take a moment to consider the occasion and the message you want to convey. Occasion relevance is crucial when choosing a gift, as it shows thoughtfulness and consideration. Think about the significance of the event or milestone and select something that aligns with it. Whether it's a birthday, anniversary, or graduation, tailor your gift to reflect the occasion.
But it's not just about the occasion; the emotional impact of your gift is equally important. Consider the message you want to convey to the recipient. Do you want to express love, appreciation, or support? Your gift should evoke these emotions and make the recipient feel special. It should be a reflection of your relationship and the bond you share.
To achieve this, think about the recipient's preferences, interests, and personality. What does he or she enjoy? What're their hobbies or passions? A gift that aligns with their interests shows that you truly know and understand them. It creates a deeper connection and brings a sense of belonging.
Don't Forget About Presentation and Packaging
Enhance the overall experience of gift giving by paying attention to the presentation and packaging. The way you present and package a gift can add an extra layer of excitement and anticipation for the recipient.
Here are some presentation ideas and packaging trends to help you make your gift truly stand out:
Personalized Wrapping: Instead of using generic wrapping paper, consider using personalized wrapping with the recipient's name or a special message. This adds a thoughtful touch and makes the gift feel even more special.
Creative Gift Boxes: Think outside the box, quite literally, and opt for unique gift boxes. You can find boxes in various shapes and sizes, from rustic wooden crates to elegant fabric-covered boxes. These boxes can be reused by the recipient for storage or decoration.
Decorative Ribbons and Bows: Take your gift wrapping to the next level by adding decorative ribbons and bows. Choose ribbons in vibrant colors or elegant patterns to complement the overall look of the gift.
Eco-Friendly Packaging: With sustainability becoming increasingly important, consider using eco-friendly packaging materials. You can use recycled paper or biodegradable wrapping paper to reduce waste and show your commitment to the environment.
Conclusion
So there you have it, the five key things to consider when it comes to gift giving.
Take the recipient's interests and hobbies into account.
Personalize the gift.
Focus on quality over quantity.
Consider the occasion and message.
Pay attention to presentation and packaging.
By following these guidelines, you can ensure a memorable and meaningful gift-giving experience.
Did you know that according to a study by the National Retail Federation, the average American spends around $800 on holiday gifts each year? It just goes to show how important gift giving is in our society.
Happy gifting!

i was blasting spiritchaser by dead can dance and then i remembered about that time that *redacted* told me that there's that stupid song by them that's like "fortunes presents gifts not according to the book, when you expect fiddles it's flutes" or whatever the fuck it was, and that i should keep it in mind when i feel down. and so here i am, absolutely SEETHING. easy coming from you bro. i've literally been suffering in solitude since i was 12, i can't remember the last time i was happy and you certainly didn't help the situation and made me feel like a monster for many years. in fact, i still do. and that's the song that reminds you of my situation? that i'm just unlucky and fortune gives me the exact opposite of what i want for myself? the audacity. how about you and miss fortune give me back all the love and time and patience and support that i poured into you for many years of my life until you found someone else who was richer and prettier than me. how does that sound.
