so i recently tried to hack my ps2 and after everything i can say it's like, technically easy but the documentation is a godless wasteland compared to n*ntendo systems. one of the major forums has IP banned like half the world including me before i even visited it and most of the text guides are outdated but the more recent ones are 💀 video guides (also frequently outdated)

anyway so my friend and i decided to try to make a couple 3ds.hacks.guide style guides for the ps2. if you have a fat ps2 you can use the internal hdd guide and if you have a slim ps2 you can use the ESR disc method

thank you everyone for your patience, HELLA appreciate it while I strugglebus my way through learning to code in choicescript, writing a novel length story, and maintaining a coherent and cohesive storyline! finally, having been a dungeon master for the most chaotic but creative group of people ever has paid off (if any of you are reading this, <333333).

this demo is 14.5k words (excl. coding), and will take you through the intro, chapter one, and the first few scenes of chapter two.

you'll meet a couple of the ROs as well as your dad, start defining who you are as a character, and hopefully get a feel for the vibe of the world.

once it gets going, fortuna will move FAST, and does not let up, so I'm looking forward to getting into the meat of it all!

after many redesigns and development, may i introduce you all to: the crew of the Fortuna!

years before aysel met ford, he was the pilot and captain of a spaceship called the Fortuna. however, she needed a crew! so, during his travels, he rescued and picked up inter-dimensional outcasts which later stayed on the ship and became permanent members!!

i really love these guys so much. wacky space hijinks ensue.

SO!!!!! INTRO TIME!!!

COMET

a gifted soldier and pilot who was thrown into a life of war since the beginning of their existence. their only purpose was to fight. that is, until they stumbled upon aysel and got roped into his adventures. they saw the opportunity to leave the life of violence they were born into and start anew. plus, this human guy could really learn how to fly better. and so, comet became the first person aysel ever had on his crew.

CALLISTA

a being who was granted the gift of foresight. an oracle, of sorts. however, since losing her eyes, they're no longer able to peer into the future. does she mention her gift to the crew? yes. do they mention she can't do it anymore? no. does this lead the Fortuna into dangerous situations? of course it does. but it's always forgiven. mostly.

SCRAPPY

a feral little guy. they were found in a storage closet on the ship, wrapped up in one of aysel's old cloaks and eating some stale food. aysel couldn't just leave scrappy on the closest planet to fend for themself, so, they were taken in. the crew later found out scrappy is also an excellent mechanic, which is always useful. EILIR

a stuck-up arrogant asshole who is really only on the team so he can stay relatively safe from the bounty hunters that want his head. extremely knowledgeable in weapons and stuff. he can hold 4 guns at once. he later softens up to the crew and sees maybe there are still some genuinely nice people who care for him. obviously he never shows this because he's too #coolandmysterious

Fortuna my beloved... she's such a compelling character I wish we had more of her. She was like 8 when she killed a god and learned the world was going to end. 8 years old when she got the power to do anything she wants, except it's never enough to solve the one problem she cares about. 8 years old when she left behind everything she knew for a battle that seemed completely hopeless, and in the end she hardly mattered despite all the parts of herself she threw away for the cause. Some (bad) fics portray her as a complete dumbass, someone who can't even walk without her power, and frankly I want to throw rocks at them because no! That's not her! She's still a person without her power, but I don't think she knows who that person is. It's something we see so often through worm, a character spends so much time with the mask on that they hardly exist when it's off, and using her power is the mask for her. She doesn't know what she would enjoy for recreation, what music she'd like, she doesn't know what it's like to have a friend that she talks to with the mask off because the mask is glued to her face by this point, and it's heartbreaking. After Scion dies, she's left to realize that she doesn't need her mask anymore, but there's barely anything left underneath. She's done so much horrible shit and stopped caring about herself or others in the name of the goal she set to save the world, and now when she tries to figure out who she is there's nothing of Fortuna left, only Contessa.

And all of this lines up with Taylor, they're so so similar in every way, which is what makes the final conversation in 30.7 so heartbreaking. Fortuna wants to know if it was worth it, if there's anything left of Taylor in there, because she's wondering the same questions about herself and desperately wants answers. Because what do you do when all your life was for nothing? When you've thrown away your humanity to be a speck in the grand scheme of things? How do you move on and find yourself without letting the guilt tear you apart once you let yourself feel something again?

The three cards that i made for @lambdeck !!!

The Seven of Pentacles, the way I interpreted it was for Fortuna to come out on top, to survive and outlive the gods that invaded the lands so long ago, few gods remained to remember a time before the bishops. Fortuna is a patient one and she was rewarded for her patience with the relics corresponding to the bishops, symbolizing their death. I also had to kill off Clauneck and Kudaai to get seven relics to represent the seven pentacles/coins. Whoopsy.

For the King of Cups, I wanted it to represent Midas' struggle of being all alone for thousands of years after sealing away his Golden Gods, especially Fortuna. The blue mug is Midas' mug, with a Fortuna shaped tea spill trying to reach towards the purple mug with Shamura's moon. But the giant pile of sugar seperates the two, representing the Golden Gods asking Midas to seal them away in the wishing well, out of fear of Fortuna and Shamura's relationship putting them all in danger. The golden tea strainer is supposed to resemble the Red Crown's eye due to Narinder's betrayal and banishment coincidencing with the sealing of the Golden Gods, leaving Shamura's mug cracked. Two forks represent two of the Golden Gods. Glühwyrm, the god of Light and Song, was the youngest god in the cave and thus got a fork more reminiscent of a children's fork. Dolos, the goddess of Lies and Rumors meanwhile has a fork I associate with serving meat slices, due to her being a very good hunter, fighter and lover of meat. The peach spoon is just me.

The Four of Cups was very fitting for Advent, whose entire thing is being Incredibly Bored At All times. Even when they're trying out something new in the form of growing homunculi, they still fell asleep, the wax on their horns dripping down. Each of the four jars of homunculi is vaguely based on the four bishops while being still cat-shaped due to being made out of Narinder's severed arms.

Now that that's out of the way, meet the ROs!:

Malcolm Ashford, 36 [M]

The primary blacksmith for the Crown ever since they took over his forge, though he's not exactly happy about it. Malcolm is a good, honourable sort; kindhearted and genuine, he's easy to approach and talk to. He is also the biggest hopeless romantic - a fact that Cyril never lets him forget. He can primarily be found at the forge in the centre of the courtyard marketplace.

Malcolm is 6'4" (193 cm), broad shouldered, muscular, and usually covered in some sort of soot. He has fair skin (but is usually sporting an intense farmer's tan), shoulder length light brown hair, a light beard, dark grey eyes, and a beauty mark just above his upper left lip.

His face claim is Eoin Macken.

Cyril Trevelyan, 34 [M]

An old friend of Malcolm's. If anyone asks, Cyril is a "non-practicing" physician. Previously a member of the Royal Physician's Guild, he has since left and now operates an illegal clinic in the lower quarters of the capital, where he can primarily be found, though he has been known to frequent a local tavern and can occasionally be spotted harassing Malcolm at the forge. Cyril is charming, outgoing, and would love to get to know you. Just don't expect him to be very forthcoming about himself.

Cyril is 6'2" (187 cm), with an athletic build. He has tan skin, short, cropped black hair, stubble, and hazel eyes. He has a small scar across his left eyebrow and another small scar through his upper lip.

His face claim is Miguel Ángel Silvestre.

Dominic / Dominica Trevelyan, 38 [M/F]

Cyril's older sibling and the current Commandant of the King's Army. They care about the citizens of Requiem, but are less idealistic than Cyril about how to go about bringing change. They generally mean well and try to make things as easy as possible for the masses, but it isn't always seen as enough. Their relationship with Cyril is... tense. To say the least. They are taciturn and serious, and could probably do with some lightening up.

D is 6'4" (193 cm) (M) / 6'1" (185 cm) (F). They are broad shouldered and a little paunchy, but muscular, strong, and a force to be reckoned with in battle. They have tan skin like their brother, short, black hair that they keep slicked back from their face, and light brown eyes.

Their face claims are Keon Alexander and Rosa Gilmore.

James Johnathan / Jane Josephine 'J.J.' St. James, 28 [M/F]

JJ is a notable lawyer from the noble St. James household, though they aren't typically the first one that comes to mind when the St. James name is brought up. No, that luxury would go to just about anyone else in their family, given JJ is the only one without magic. They're a hard worker, extremely diligent, but have just a teensy tiny chip on their shoulder. They're a bit smarmy, but there is a good heart in there. Somewhere.

JJ is 5'10" (177 cm) (M) / 5'8" (173 cm) (F). They have a lean, athletic build, pale skin, light blue eyes, and copper-brown hair.

Their face claims are Richard Madden and Philipine Urvois.

Amaryllis / Amaranthus Calyx, 30 [F/M]*

One of the royal twins, but also an acolyte to the Divine Valentine, goddess of mercy. They have chosen to dedicate their time to the Temple of the Divines, honing their healing magic and providing succor to those in need, emulating all the virtues Valentine embodies. They are soft spoken and kind, but sheltered and naive. They want to help, but have an impressive lack of self-awareness and preservation, and are more likely to get themselves into trouble unintentionally. Hopefully, you won't have to babysit them too much.

A is 5'10" (177 cm) (F) / 6'0" (183 cm) (M). Amaryllis has a slight, willowy build, shoulder length, dark brown hair that she wears in a bob, a small dusting of freckles across the nose, and dark brown eyes that (like most members of the royal family) are ringed with gold. Amaranthus has a lean, athletic build, short, dark brown hair kept neat and styled back from his face, and the same dark brown gold-ringed eyes as his sister. He also wears glasses, though he's constantly forgetting where he put them.

Their face claims are Adeline Rudolph and Kenta Sakurai.

*Unlike the other gender selectable ROs, A's gender setting determines which of the two twins you end up encountering as opposed to deciding the gender for one character. The other will appear in the story regardless, but will not be romanceable if you select the opposite gender. The other twin has a separate job, position, and demeanour and an entirely different personality from the chosen romanceable one, which will be determined by who you select as RO.

Elliott 'Eli' / Eleanor 'Ellie' Rosefinch, 30 [M/F]

Your oldest friend and most trusted confidant, they've known you since you were twelve and you've been thick as thieves since. They're one of the very few magic users in the capital, and have been recruited into SCEPTRE, the kingdom's elite training program for budding sorcerers. They're down to earth and easygoing, grounded, and calm under fire. They tend towards being the far more rational of the two of you.

E is 5'11" (180 cm), with a dancer's build. They have brown skin, short, curly black hair, brown eyes, and sparse freckling.

Their face claims are Dev Patel and Nikita Chadha.
