f1 academy silly season this year is going to have a huge impact on the future of the series & women in single-seater motorsport as a whole. here’s some more information (cross-posted as a thread on my twitter, also dreamsrussell)
for some context, f1 academy is a women-only racing series that is most similar to formula 4. drivers are eligible to compete for two years; after that, they are no longer eligible because the goal is to help advance women through the junior series.
2023 was the first season of f1 academy. 2025 will be the first year where some drivers will no longer be eligible. this year, 2023 champion marta garcía & runner up léna bühler advanced to FRECA.
abbi pulling, both al quabasi sisters, nerea marti, bianca bustamante, jess edgar, lola lovinfosse, emely de heus, and carrie schreiner will not be eligible to compete in f1a in 2025. as far as i’m aware, none of their seats for next year have been announced.
essentially, 2025 is the first time we’ll see how successful f1 academy can be at promoting young female drivers. where should we be looking for them to be going?
well, FRECA and formula 3 are the most sought-after spots, though it is likely some will remain in formula 4 for another season as they hope to make a big enough mark to secure the funding necessary to race in these expensive series.
estimates place the cost of running a single f3 season at around 1.2 million dollars, and drivers who are associated with academies can expect to have an academy fund about half of that if they’re lucky.
another option is formula e, the electric series; nerea martí and chloe chambers were announced today to be testing for andretti later this year.
chloe chambers was the first f1 academy 2025 driver to be announced, and the haas-backed race-winner is joining red bull racing’s ford seat for 2025. it seems like more 2024 f1a rookies are likely to stay with the series for next year, but if other stand-outs like maya weug and doriane pin can secure seats in higher series, a move up isn’t out of the picture.
because f1 academy gets relatively little media coverage compared to other junior series, we don’t know a lot about who is expected to move into some of the seats opening up; nina gademan had one of the best wild card performances of the season and seems to be a favorite for one of them.
so why does this matter? i don’t think anyone reasonable should be expecting f1 academy to erase institutional bias against women in motorsport in a single season, but it’s important that f1a makes its mark on the media and their sponsors in order to secure its place going forward.
these girls have worked so incredibly hard, and susie wolff described on the red flags podcast this week what is already being called the f1 academy efffect; more young girls are interested in karting bc they female role models to look up to.
that's all i have to say about this for now, but basically i just want to make f1a fans and f1 fans in general aware of how pivotal this silly season for f1a is going to be, even if it doesn't get the media coverage that it deserves.

what's been happening in the world of motorsports?
(this is a long one since i had no time to write it down, so it will be hidden under the cut in relative chronological order)
Williams and Alpine were the last teams to do their shakedowns before pre season testing (Williams announced it was a strategic move to keep the real car concept a secret for as long as possible)
Helmut Marko has been saying a lot about Ferrari and 2025 Ferrari like that he thinks Lewis only came to Ferrari because Max earning more hurt his pride and Ferrari offered him a bigger pay check or that he considers Charles 2024 season's champion (ok grandpa, let's get you to bed)
after Alpha Tauri departed as title sponsor of current RB team, they became official clothing partner of FIA from 2024 to 2026
RBR was the last team to have their launch (although the livery looks just the same as it did before and although the car leaked a few hours before) and Horner was present just like he is at the pre season testing, he gave an interview during the launch where he denied any allegations, but Viaplay suggested he will be stepping away from the position of Red Bull team principal and it will be announced on 28th Feb which they promptly denied afterwards. Walls Street Journal speculated the victim is Horner's personal assistant and apparently people already spied who it is on Linked in and then made it big on Twitter. If you have names, please PLEASE do not publish them. And finally Craig Slate who followed the case from the start and spoke to related personnel said the investigation is now finished the report (close to 150 pages long) was delivered to the Red Bull Board and now we are awaiting the decision. In the meantime both F1 and FORD urged for prompt resolution of the case.
F1 also officially addressed the situation but only to say they hope RBR resolve it asap
McLaren boss Andrea Stella admitted they will be doing something similar to last year in terms of updates, because they wanted to add more to this year's concept before launch, so they will push the updates forward and expect early gains from them
F1 Academy announced more drivers and partnerships: they have partnered Charlotte Tilbury make up brand to have their own livery and Lola Lovinfosse as a driver (for Rodin), Jessica Edgar will drive for Rodin as well, Reema Juffali as wildcard driver for Prema for the first round in Jeddah and FDA driver Aurelia Nobels driving a Puma livery for ART. The grid is now complete and girls are training for first race.
Nico Rosberg broke his silence over the contract news and denied the rumours he would be coming back to Mercedes, because he now has great respect for the dangers of the sport (he also said that besides living close, Lewis gives his kids Chrismas presents every year
Fabio Quartararo claimed that Pierro Ferrari let him know about Lewis coming to Ferrari when he visited Maranello
it was Enzo Ferrari's birthday anniversary on 18th February (or was it?? nobody will ever know when he was actually born and how long it took his father to announce it to the authorities), then it was Niki Lauda's birthday anniversary on 22nd Feb and finally Alain Prost's birthday was on 24th Feb
three day long F1 pre season testing is over and RBR seems to be clear favorite, with almost no reliability issues (spare a few fuel pumps and Checo's brakes catching fire for a bit) but Red Flags still appeared because of loose drain covers [side note: I have detailed summary of each day if anyone is interested as well as some technical analysis and predictions]
fun fact about some changes in testing: Alpine seems to have added a bit more blue color onto the nose and Mercedes changed their suspension for the last day of testing, because their car features a clever solution which allows them to fine tune the suspension setting for each race
Jeff Dodds the CEO of Formula E believes that F1 title for 2024 is done and dusted after he saw the first day of testing and promised to donate 250k to charity of drivers choice if they win instead
We have an F1 group pic to look forward to which we already saw some glimpses from teams like McLaren
Aston Martin presented their new safety car (personal opinion it looks like a green zebra and I liked last year's so much more)
Sauber confirmed Zane Maloney and Theo Pourchaire as reserve drivers for 2024
4 teams complained about Mercedes front wing but FIA deemed it legal
Fred Vasseur confirmed that Ferrari didn't publish the lenght of Charles' and Lewis' contracts for strategic purposes, he also mentioned they are still waiting for compensation for Las Vegas drain cover damage on Carlos' car (and now they may try to ask for the same for floor damage from pre season testing), speaking of Lewis he said that Fred was the main push for him to come to Ferrari and he didn't have to think much about it and didn't even tell his parents until the day of announcement, one of the things he wants to focus on is the diversity of the team
Steve Nielsen who left FIA returned to F1 as a consultant, Guenther Steiner will return in the paddock as RTL presenter and Matia Binotto returns to the world of racing with E-Powertrain of TEXA
there are rumours of issues for Audi caused by two main figures of team possibly leaving
Este said he's like to try Le Mans
FIA warned fans there are two companies claiming to sell unauthorised F1 hospitality ticket packages
if you follow F1 on Sky Sports, David Croft will miss 3 races this year because of his wedding and a wish to spend more time with family among the expanding calendar
RacingNews365 estimated driver salaries for 2024 (Max 55m dollars, Lewis 45m, Charles 34m, Lando 20m and George 18m for the top 5 highest earning ones)
Ralph Schumacher tried to get into the headlines when he said he thinks that Sebastian Vettel wants to race again but Mercedes would be too big for him
F1 and Nascar might be infringing the IMS trademarked phrase "The Greatest Spectacle in Racing" (because F1 uses "the greatest spectacle in motorsport"
after McLaren Reece partnership, Haas partnered with Palm Angels for luxury clothing and speaking of fashion, Ferrari introduced their fall/winter 24-25 collection this weekend
Google extended the partnership with McLaren to not just be primary partner for their F1 team but also Extreme E
FIA wants to close up a loophole in the costcap rules about part time and third party workers and include their full year salary into the budget (did teams use it to gain small advantage? perhaps yes. but we should have a talk about possible obstacle this makes for teams to find new workers among "undiscovered" talents)
from fan's point of view:
Guanyu did a photoshoot for Elle Men China (and slayed)
Charles was in Uzbekistan before pre season testing for an event with fans (and for skiing apparently)
Lewis posted a thirst trap from his work out session
Pierre apparently posted a pic (video?) of being stopped by police and performing an alcohol test and later deleted it
Charles with his boytoys made another ad during karting
Arthur Leclerc randomly came on Twitch to stream Fortnite (and mentioned he will say Hello everybody, because he can't pronounce Hello guys 😭)
Lewis hung out with Anna Wintour (for Baftas? I think)
multiple drivers played golf and padel together before the Bahrain gp
REMINDER: the first two gps will be held on Saturday, so don't miss out

liam going to williams and permanently cutting ties with red bull for a one year contract in 2024 is so stupid and i know he knows that. but fans clambering for him to do that like do u want him to self sabotage??? best route for him is to go to alpha tauri in 2025 (2024 mid season hmmm) where he can be there for 2-3 years and then red bull but if not red bull he'll be able to find a really good exit plan. we're setting our meowies up for sucess not failure this year
i think the problem with this current crop of f1 fans (GENERALISATION!) is recency bias and immediate gratification......like think long term....is there a progressive future for liam in williams.....most likely no....he's grown up in red bull, red bull like him, they support him, he is for now safe and good there.....why risk that relationship.....and again with immediate gratification....he doesnt have a seat now but he soon might there is no need to PANIC f1 is a (pardon the pun) fast moving sport.....worst thing that fucking happened in this sport is corpse marko deciding to put that formula e fraud champion in that at after just one lucky race cause now everyones like how are u not putting liam in the car?????? CAUSE THERE ISNT SPACE??????
but yes 2024 mid season see u then liam x x x x

Aston Martin and McLaren to test Pirellis 2024 tyres at Spa
Aston Martin and McLaren to test Pirelli’s 2024 tyres at Spa By Balazs Szabo on 26 Jul 2023, 22:00 Pirelli will continue the work on their 2024 tyres following the Belgian Grand Prix with Aston Martin and McLaren set to take part in the in-season tyre evaluation. Pirelli has been working on a very different specification of slick tyres that does not require a blanket for preheating. The Milan-based manufacturer has already introduced a blanket-free wet tyre in Monaco that has been used on multiple occasions since May as recent race weekends have been affected by rain. The Italian manufacturer also wanted to debut an intermediate tyre that does not require blanket, but teams have rejected to use that in the current season, albeit it is expected to make its debut next year. The blanket-free slick tyres have been developed for several months with in-season tests having taken place on a wide range of tracks including Bahrain, Barcelona and Silverstone. The F1 Commission that consists of FOM, FIA and teams will discuss the matter this Friday in order to decide about whether the blanket-free tyres are introduced next year or their debut is postponed until 2025. Even if the decision is to postpone the introduction of the brand-new tyres, Pirelli remains committed to complete the planned test with the blanket-free tyres with the next event set to take place at Spa after this weekend’s Belgian Grand Prix. Pirelli will work with McLaren and Aston Martin at the 7.004km Spa track with the two-day programme set to take place on August 1-2. Stoffel Vandoorne, who drove two full seasons for McLaren in 2017 and 2018 before switching to Formula E, will get behind the wheel of Aston Martin’s 2023 F1 car, sharing driving duties with team regular Lance Stroll. The former Formula E champion, who serves as test and reserve driver for McLaren and Aston Martin, will complete his first on-track outing in a current F1 car since he drove for Mercedes in the Abu Dhabi test in December 2020. McLaren will split their two-day on-track action between their race drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri. via F1Technical.net . Motorsport news https://www.f1technical.net/news/

Mid-Week Motorsport Headlines - 9th February 2022
F1
Red Bull has launched their livery for the 2022 season, which is mostly the same as the now classic livery we have seen in the past. The main change is the new title sponsor in Oracle, who are reportedly paying $100 million per year for the privilege, which is rather a lot, especially in the new cost cap era. The car shown was an updated version of F1’s own version of the rules, so there wasn’t much to read into what we saw, and the true picture of the cars may only be seen at Bahrain, when racing begins.
Norris has extended his contract with McLaren further, until the end of 2025. Having already signed a hefty extension last year, this did seem a bit like overkill, however, given the rumours about other teams showing interest in him, it may have been to ward off unwanted attention.
Red Bull have said that they think the new car will be faster on the straights, which is a logical assumption to make, given the reduction in downforce for the new cars, as ground effect is not as draggy. Rather ironically, Horner has won a tour of the Mercedes factory at a charity auction, I bet he was willing to pay top dollar to have a look around, and it will be funny to see how much they show him!
IndyCar
Max Chilton was announced he will not return to IndyCar for 2022, after being in the sport for 6 years. He spent most of his time at Carlin, where he tried to help them climb the grid. It never quite worked out for either of them, and Carlin seems to have merged with Juncos Racing.
Formula E
Envision will run Jaguar powertrains for the Gen3 era of the sport, and will be the first customer of Jaguar ever in Formula E. It was clear that Envision would need to find a new partner for Gen3, as they are currently using Audi powertrains, who are no longer in the sport. Jaguar was a solid choice, as they have been one of the best over the past few years, although it is all change for next year, so who knows what will happen.
MotoGP
The testing in Malaysia did give us some hints as to what we might see in 2022, yet we can’t read too much into it. Firstly, Aprilia do look very quick, although we often see that in testing, nonetheless, their potential cannot be underestimated. Ducati are where we expect them to be, near the front of the times, and the noises coming from them is positive. Yamaha, however, may have some issues, they weren’t fast in testing, and Quartararo suggested that their engines may not be what he wanted at the moment.
Other News
The NASCAR season began with the Clash at the Coliseum, an all-new event, to try and entice some new fans in LA. I do think on the whole it was a success, given that the crowd was fairly strong, despite not staying for the whole event, and the racing was good for a first try. It was a push to pass race, yet there were not many wrecks, apart from in that last chance qualifier!
A potential issue for NASCAR is the lack of chassis and parts for the Next Gen car, most teams only have one spare chassis across 4 drivers, and going to Daytona, where wrecks are a common occurrence, it could be a real issue over the coming months. There were also clear reliability concerns for the new car, after the race in LA, these are expected when it is all new, but it doesn’t  help their situation right now.
BMW have confirmed that the LMDh car that they are producing, could potentially go across to Le Mans in 2024. This was not unexpected, and just adds to the excitement for the series. In other LMDh news, Cadillac has given a preview of what its car will look like, with the shape bearing some resemblance to its current DPi car.

INTERVIEW: We spoke with BMW’s Chief of Engineering Klaus Fröhlich in Daytona
As the rain fell hard on the 24 Hours of Daytona, racing was halted for a weather delay. While that was frustrating for a lot of people in Daytona, during that time we had the chance to sit down with BMW’s Chief of Engineering Klaus Fröhlich, to talk about BMW Motorsport, electric mobility, the new 3 Series and the future of the brand.
One of the first questions we wanted to ask him was about Formula E. The all-electric racing series is becoming increasingly popular and exciting, with more manufacturers throwing their hats into the ring. BMW was one of the first manufacturers to really jump on board with Formula E, so we asked Fröhlich what his feelings on the EV racing series were, five seasons in.
“I think at the moment, it’s a very interesting race concept. Especially [because] it addresses other target groups. And that’s the reason why we think it’s the right format for BMW i. And for me it was also an experiment.” said Fröhlich. “There are race engineers that have developed race eDrives for four seasons and I ask my series development guys to do the same.”
Formula E is an interesting new racing series because it doesn’t have the traditional excitement factors, nor does it have the same target audience, as something like Formula One. So BMW is continuing to learn about Formula E but Fröhlich notes that BMW is happy with the series and how it’s unfolding. “We have to understand the target group. So it’s not normal racing but we’re happy with its beginning.”
BMW’s work in Formula E is also incredibly important for its future of electric vehicles. The Bavarians are currently in the process of developing several new EVs, all of which are scheduled to arrive before 2025. So between electric powertrain technology and battery technology, there’s a lot that can be learned from Formula E that can be transferred to BMW’s series production cars. Fröhlich points out that electric cars also have different impacts on different markets. For instance, EVs and plug-in hybrids are much easier to sell in China because of the stricter regulations, and even ban-days, on internal combustion engine cars.
However, the landscape for EVs changes a bit when you get to certain markets, such as the U.S., where places like California favor EVs far more than anywhere else in the Country. “Here in America, it’s more complex,” said Fröhlich. “For example Tesla — and we should have a look at what we can learn from them — they’ve succeed in a very emotional concept. They did not have a sustainability story, something like we do with our i3, a more emotional than intellectual approach.”
“So what will we do in the U.S.? Of course we will have better electric vehicles. But I want to bring the electric vehicles into the core of the brand,” he said. “The [BMW] i4 for example is very important for me because that’s typical BMW. Everybody understands the size of it, 3 Series-size car. And of course, X cars are very important as well.”
Fröhlich also shares his view on the i4 which will offer different battery packs and a choice between rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. “There will be a high spec, like we have the M340i, which will be all-wheel drive and will have a range over 400 miles,” Fröhlich said. “In customer usage, we think the range is between 300km and 350 km (186 – 217 miles), so something like that will be available in an entry car. I’m absolutely sure there will be a market for such car at a lower price point.”
Next for the BMW i division is the MINI electric and the first fully-electric SUV – the iX3. The two are due out in 2020 and are somewhat of a bridge between the current generation of BMW electric cars and the fifth generation platform to be seen first in the i4 and iNEXT.
“From a battery perspective, they are on the fourth generation,” Fröhlich told us. “The MINI [electric] is also using the i3’s e-motor and technology, and that’s the third generation of motors. The iX3 is different, it also uses the chemistry of the battery of the fourth generation, but it’s a pilot for the first derivative of our highly integrated architecture with only one power spec of that modular box. So the iX3 is indeed the first fifth generation e-motor we have.”
One interesting point Fröhlich makes is that the United States market is also the biggest M Division market. So to make electric vehicles more popular and more exciting, he’s working with the people at BMW M to help with electric powertrains. “So I’m working with the guys at Motorsport to make very emotional drivetrains.” said Fröhlich. “Of course, at the moment, you still have the weight penalty of electrification. So we work very hard on energy density.”
Which is why he feels plug-in hybrids have become more attractive in the U.S. market, mostly because of their performance benefits. Rather than have the extra heft of a fully-electric car, Fröhlich claims that plug-in hybrids with electric performance boost are actually more popular in markets like America. “I think if you have 200 horsepower or 250 horsepower, electric, which can give you a boost within some milliseconds then I think it’s really exciting.” he said. “The e-motors will have the torque of a [naturally-aspirated] V8 you put additionally as a booster. So I think we will have emotional cars in the U.S.”
Though, with plug-in hybrids, range always comes into question. While hybrids have the benefit of also using a gasoline engine to give them the range of a normal car, their all-electric ranges are typically not great. So we asked Fröhlich what the acceptable range for a hybrid will be in the near future. “I think the first-generation of plug-in hybrids was quite limited, especially at cold temperatures.” he said. “If you go above 100 kilometers,  range is the most expensive part, the chemistry of the batteries is the most expensive part. And also it brings additional weight into the car. So I think there will be a balance [with the] plug-in hybrids that will achieve about 100 kilometers.”
Plug-in hybrids are getting popular in the ‘States, as Fröhlich mentioned. In fact, the BMW 5 Series plug-in hybrid is one of the best selling 5ers on the market right now. However, in many European markets diesel still reigns supreme as the economical choice. So does Fröhlich see hybrids taking over for diesel in these Euro markets?
“We have very clean and very competitive diesels” he said. “I think the current development of diesel is a little bit unpredictable in Europe. The reason? WLTP” He mentions that petrol-powered cars bring a higher CO2 rating, which brings taxes up. So a lot of customers are scared off by petrol-powered cars, even if they’re hybrids, as they prefer the diesel’s cheaper cost.
The natural questioning progression from electric cars is to autonomous driving. Autonomy seems to be the next hurdle for automotive brands to overcome. It’s also one that BMW has been rather hesitant about thus far. With Tesla and its famous Autopilot making big waves early in the world of autonomy, and Audi doing it more recently, it seems as if BMW’s hesitance is putting it behind the curve. So we asked Fröhlich his thoughts on autonomous driving and where BMW stands on it.
“We from the beginning said ‘We have to make a standardization’, because it’s safety relevant.” said Fröhlich, continuing BMW’s hesitance about autonomy when it comes to safety. Being flexible is another important point for BMW and their CTO.
“You have to be flexible. If you look at the Level 3 in the 7 Series [future model] or iNEXT in 2021, you have some thousand dollars piece cost in the car, so it is a high-end option for the customer. So you need to start at the high-end of the range – even X5, then in the second generation in 2024 [when prices go down], we might reach 5 Series and something like that. ”
The BMW CTO mentions an even better Level 2 capability coming in 2021. “The Level 3 will be an option which will have a smaller take probably, but for me, of course, it’s important to do a Level 3 pilot,” Fröhlich. “At the moment, there is a lot of momentum on Level 5 so we have intensified that [development] as well.”
We also asked if there are major production line changes to accommodate the build of autonomous driven cars. “No, for the factory is easy. The problem is more the robustness of the autonomous driving sensors so we have heavily think about other cleaning approaches. Today, when you have a car and you’re driving through the snow, the radar system might not see anything and you can’t do this when you’re going into high level of automation. So we think about cleaning approaches in daily life because we will not only test cars in sunny states.
Another aspect of autonomous driving is the back-end. These autonomous driving systems need “hundreds of millions of kilometers” of back-end testing. So BMW isn’t rushing to get autonomous driving systems on the market just to try and keep up with competitors.
But let’s get back to real life, right now. We asked Fröhlich about the new G20 BMW 3 Series, one of the most exciting cars in the Bavarian lineup. “I was Head of Strategy after 2012, then I took responsibility from 1 Series to 5 Series. The biggest product line we have at BMW,” he said. “I had to realize that customers were not extremely happy with that generation of 3 Series.” He’s talking of course about the F30-gen 3er, which was heavily criticized throughout its life cycle for lacking the sort of dynamics and feel that 3 Series’ always had. He also noted that there were some quality complaint from customers as well.
“The 3 Series is an icon. The icon has to fight back. We have to win all test drives, by far, not only against our direct competitors.” Fröhlich said ab out the new G20 3 Series. He spoke about how he would consistently drive the G20 and tell the engineers what he did and didn’t like, down to specific maneuvers. Another big part of Fröhlich’s goal for the G20 was rigidity. He wanted the chassis to be as stiff as possible, as it is with all new CLAR-based cars. He even talks about how he went back and drove the E46 3 Series after driving this new G20 and realizes that a lot of what we remember being so great on the E46 might just due to nostalgia.
After that, our time with Fröhlich was up, as he was needed elsewhere. However, during that time he increased our optimism for the future of BMW, its technologies and its performance cars.

F1 related bits from the past days
2024 engine limit is now set on 3 power units for the whole season (it was 4 last season with less races)
Monza is doing track and circuit infrastructure repairs and improvements as part of the effort to keep the track on the calendar after 2025 when their current contract expires
Mahindra in Formula E made an AI Ambassador????? Icky.
Sauber academy (so Stake / Kick / Alfa Romeo) hires Carrie Schreiner for F1 Academy (it's her last chance at 25 because the series is for 16-25 years old)
Rodin Carlin changes name to Rodin Motorsport after Trevis Carlin left
Haas' technical director Simone Resta is leaving the team after disagreement with Gene Haas, he is speculated to join Ferrari or Audi (and there's a rumour that Steiner may be fired because his name no longer appears on the website of the team)
Las Vegas organizers named the pit building Grand Prix Plaza (if you wanna know more about why it's isn't called paddock like at other venues, head over here) and they will make the building permanent all year round as official US HQ
McLaren partnered with Alpinestars for race wear sponsorship deal
I also suggest reading what Ben Sulayem had to say from Motorsport Week here because he says: Liberty Media could sell the lease anyday, FIA will be there always, he knows everyone and knows who is spreading hate about him behind his back etc etc
As another part of their move, Alpha Tauri moves the aero department from Faenza to Milton Keynes
Business owners in Las Vegas demand compensations for profit loss from f1
Taylor Barnard joined McLaren formula E team as a reserve and development driver
As for the rumours there are always some about Ferrari (that they found 30 downforce points, that they will be 7 tenths quicker in race pace, that Carlos' management is lying about his pre contracts with other teams to try to get one from ferrari), about Angela Cullen (potentially coming back because of some post on social media where she "hinted at it") and about McLaren (that they CFD and windtunnel data look great)

Pirelli yet to decide whether it wants to continue F1 tyre supply after 2024 | 2025 F1 season
Formula 1’s current tyre supplier Pirelli says it is undecided over whether it apply to continue in the role for the 2025 to 2027 seasons. Pirelli has been the exclusive tyre supplier for F1 since 2011, and also provides rubber for the Formula 2 and Formula 3 support series. The FIA launched the process for tyre manufacturers to lodge their interest in taking on the next three-year supply deal earlier this week. It gave extensive details of what is expected from any interested manufacturers in terms of the technical specifications of the tyres they would supply. Pirelli acknowledged the development in a statement on Wednesday and said it was considering its response. “The FIA has now published the invitation to participate in the next tender process for the supply of tyres to the top single-seater championships – FIA F1 world championship, F2 and F3 – for the three year period from 2025-2027 (with an option for 2028),” said the manufacturer. “The document outlines technical characteristics that are broadly in line with the tyres used today and their relevance to technology transfer from track to road, putting a particular emphasis on sustainability. “The framework described by the FIA is closely aligned to Pirelli’s motorsport strategy and so is of great interest, with the Italian company having been Global Tyre Partner to the sport for more than a decade, since 2011. A definitive decision about Pirelli’s participation in the selection process will naturally be taken after a detailed examination of the FIA’s document.” Multiple tyre manufacturers are currently active at the top level of single-seater racing. Hankook replaced Michelin as the new supplier for Formula E this season, while Firestone being a long-time partner of IndyCar and Yokohama supplying Super Formula. All manufacturers are increasingly focussed on promoting the sustainability of their products.
