I desperately wanted to add more to this (accessories, jewellery, glasses, hearing aids, wheelchairs, multi-coloured hair ect) but the site I used has a few limitations with iPad files so I was limited to 400 layers-I used photopea to format it but after 400 layers it kept crashing haha-if I get a desktop or laptop I’d loooovve to give this some more work :)

Toshiya and Fashion

As someone who studied fashion, I wonder if the "revival" or "renewal" of certain iconic looks over the years is a conscious decision made by Toshiya or just a pattern from his tastes.

Naturally his taste has become more mature, refined and elegant. But some materials have remained something he reaches for constantly and the overall feeling too.

When it comes to accessories hats, gloves and pearls have been a part of his wardrobe and image over the years. In different styles and different formats but they make appearances in the late 90's, in the 2000's and until now.

Ties and chokers too.

In the fabric department, lace and leather make a comeback every now and then. And when you consider that lace has always been more heavily associated with women's fashion, I find it so remarkable, bold and refreshing to see Toshiya wearing it. To me it shows that Toshiya is a man in touch with his emotions and his divine feminine. It requires a certain touch of sensibility to reach for something like lace.

The same with velvet. Who doesn't remember the iconic blue velvet dress from the Studio Coast live?

There is something so royal and regal about the velvet dress. And the jewellery pieces? Chef's kiss. He is bold through and through.

Also keep in mind, this man doesn't mind skirts. When you study fashion and history of costume, you learn that all these things (skirts, lace and velvet were used in men's fashion for centuries.)

Fashion details like ruffles, bows, balloon sleeves and pleats also come around every know and then.

When I think of a lot of Toshiya's wardrobe pieces I get the feeling he must be a big McQueen fan. In fact I have seen him wearing the famous McQueen skull scarf during a photoshoot mid tour and he actually owns the Savage Beauty book.

There is a gothic romance, dark but sensual feeling that radiates from him sometimes.

And then... we have the more masculine tone of his fashion. The suits... my goodness I could ramble about this one none stop. The man has great build and a good suit, makes him look sharp, clean and elegant.

I do wish however that the tailoring around his back neck width, the neck drop, shoulder to shoulder length and height of the collar were made by a good tailor (not that the costume designer in charge of his fits is bad). I have only noticed that the fitting around this area often leaves creasing around his neck.

The same can be said about the fringe blazer. The concept and the visual is unrivalled. But I do have beef with it... the poor construction and sewing on that lapel gives me tailoring nightmares.

Mind you this is all the on-stage, artistic fashion surrounding Toshiya. It has been sharpened over the years so beautifully and I quite admire that about him.

He dresses like an almanac from straw- burst homes

And she stuffs her red clogs with cotton wool.  they make a clickety clack sound as she walks the concrete paving slabs in a feigned country prance

I could see the music he listened to writhing from the clothes and accessories he decked himself in;

fraying tartan quilt that imitated the buskers on the Pont Neuf. Although he didn’t know how to play bag pipes, there was the same jangling rhythm to his step as we walked hand in hand in the worn black leather shoes, now with a small hole growing at the back heal.

A careful assemblage of rings; tokens, reminders. And his grandmothers bequeathed earrings. They hung, and would glint timidly, reflecting in the sunlight. A small piece from the inner lining of a shell, sculpted into the formation of a cloud framed in silver. And a round, sonorous pearl that blossomed out of a golden stamen. Phosphorescent dew, that hung against his throat trailing in black silk or rosary chains.

I thought about ‘Girl With A Pearl Earring’, and how Griet had to pierce one earlobe with a smouldering needle so that she was able to wear the thieved pearl. The pearl was a necessity that without, the painting would not be complete.

And like this, without ours, we felt incomplete.

Our garments and ornaments were a part of us, they made us feel whole.

It was a way of incarnating that which seethed inside, so others may begin to see, and perhaps understand when just our mortal bodies where not enough.

It stood out against our hair with the same intensity as the one in the painting, swathed in ebony. But we had begun to let our natural colour appear; mousy brown and light ginger wisps.

Neither of us where religious, but I think we both found reassurance in carrying such emblems with us. That despite our disbelief, something would always look out for us. Help us through our trivial existence.

Perhaps it was just harbouring a magpie eye; both a blessing and a curse as we sought out the beautiful trinkets that we craved yet could never afford.

This same evening as we where walking across the Pont Neuf bridge, we spied a small jewellery shop under a black canopy. I felt transfixed; there was a mixture of hand crafted fountains in silver, profusions of green droplets, and wire entwined with obscure beads. The door was shut and nobody was inside, but these items stayed with me, more from the awe of the craftsmanship with somehow alchemised the inanimate materials into a melody.

Selfridges, also known as Selfridges & Co., is a chain of high-end department stores in the United Kingdom that is operated by Selfridges Retail Limited, part of the Selfridges Group of department stores. It was founded by Harry Gordon Selfridge in 1908.

My experience in the store…

When i went into selfridges i noticed there was a varied customer base. Ranging from people aged 18-50. Many people were looking around however some were buying things. As Selfridge's is a high end shop i feel like they have a very wide variety of customers between people who go in every now and then to treat themselves and people who can afford to go and buy multiple things frequently, however i think Selfridges has something for almost everyone.

The atmosphere was quite calm and there was plenty of staff around to help if needed. Although they did not approach you too much which is something I liked and made me feel more comfortable. The store had a few floors and had a very structured format. I noticed that the store had a mixture of a grid and loop floor plan with very simple but effective displays which made u focus on certain products. When I was inside I noticed that the interior was furnished with a lot of neutral colours like beiges, whites and creams. There was also a lot of gold accents around the store. The bright plain colours made you focus more on the products that were displayed and the gold gave a sense of luxury.
