Quick Ramblings (Video Game Edition)

Thank god tomorrow’s payday folks, because Allen X is more flat broke than the Great Plains of the Midwest. A man shouldn’t be sighing with relief when he still has quarters in his bank account... I hate to say it, but I gotta’ leave my current job for a better one. As much as I like my boss and coworkers I like having money a little bit more. 

But you didn’t come here to hear me complain about the woes of working the service industry. Like the title said, I don’t have much to talk about at length in the form of a proper Rambling this week, or at least nothing finished. I have a few smaller things to get off my chest though, as well as few small notes of what’s going on in the X Household. But before that, let’s talk about a happy topic, like video games. 

So... here’s a quick update/mini Rambling session of all the (relevant) video games I’ve been playing for most of last month.

I’ve played about 15-ish hours of Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[cl-r] and once again Allen X realizes he sucks at video games... 

It seems when I said I maintained a 10% win-rate in most fighting games I forgot that meant I lose 9 out of 10 matches. And boy does it suck. I tried playing my old main, Byakuya, but... I just can’t make him work. I’ve seen some god-like plays from actual good Byakuya players, but I’m not copying that any time soon. This game doesn’t tell you a lot about Byakuya’s mechanics. I just learned he can feint his 623[X] by holding the button, and it took months to realize he could set a trap down on the flow after his 214[X] follow-up. Just... the more I learn about that character the angrier I get for not know about it sooner. So I went with Phonon for UNclr this time around. 

Honestly? I like her playstyle. 

She’s not so much a zoner as she is a ranger, someone that constantly keeps you at mid-screen and adds pressure to keep you from moving forward. Though unlike Hilda and Vatista, she can actually do a lot at close range if she’s caught. Only issue I have with her kit that there’s no real anti-air. Her DP is surprisingly slow and has a wonky hitbox. And the only anti-air I know she has is her force function, and while it’s not slow it’s definitely not fast either. I might switch over to Hyde later since he has everything you want in a character plus the most godly anti-air since Ragna’s 6A. 

I honestly got Londrekia for his theme music and nothing else. I really can’t be bothered to play him. He looks cool, his moveset and animations look great, but... nothing really attracts me to play him save for his music.

Arknights

Next up is Arknights, a tower defense phone game that I’m playing on my laptop and yet it still makes the damn thing shriek and howl. What’s with phone games needing my high-end PC to run properly? Anyway, I’ve been playing this for about a month, and while I do have something drafted on it, I’ll simply say it’s a very fun tower defense game with quite the steep learning curve. I like the characters, I like the story, and I’m a little too obsessed with grinding for my own good. 

The only critique I have is that it could be a little less stingy with originium drops. For a game like this, I think being able to reliably 10-pull twice a month as a free-to-play would be nice. Not needed, but nice.

And last, Black Survival got a new character, Nicky, AKA Tiny Punch Girl. Sadly, I don’t have the crystals or the gold to buy her yet, so... might start dipping into that wallet and get the monthly pass again for the next paycheck. Thankfully it’s only five bucks. I haven’t gotten into this game in awhile, and I might do another Rambling on it soon, but no promises. Honestly? A lot of what I said before still stands. This game is really RNG based. You can have routes, contingencies, strategies, but you’ll still find that one punk that got 4th-tier armor and weapons in the first minute of the game for some reason. I’ve gotten lucky and had 4th-tier healing items in the first 2 minutes, but that meant jack when an Aya one-shot me...

Anyway, second Rambling on Black Survival might come after I finish the draft of the Gacha Rambling first.

But anyway, that’s really it for now, at least in terms of video games. I might do an anime focused Quick Rambling tomorrow, but for now I’m gonna’ go back to grinding on Black Survival to get Tiny Punch Girl.

Do you like your handwriting?: I guess? It's pretty a looking blend of print and cursive but it can be hard to read if you're reading it for the first time :(

Do you think you’re strong willed?: Not particularly, I think? I'm a people pleaser but I'm also stubborn as hell so....

Favorite Ice Cream?: Birthday Cake!!! French Vanilla or Wedding Cake is good too--anything really REALLY vanilla-y is top notch.

What is the first thing you notice about a person?: Their smile and I guess like...idk how to put it....their Build? Like if they're lanky with broad shoulders or tall 'n buff or short 'n stocky, stuff like that.

Football or baseball?: I only attend football games for the Marching Band halftime shows

Favorite donut?: Anything filled with cream or custard tbh. Maple-flavored dunkin donuts donuts are good too, though.

What are you listening to?: A lot of Vouge Remixes/Music apparently? Like DJ Boyfriends and stuff. I like high-energy beats.

If you were a crayon, what color would you be?: A deep jewel tone that's labelled "peacock" but you can't really tell if its a green or blue until you use it.

What is your favorite smell?: Vanilla Bean Noel from Bath and Body Works, Honeycomb, and Harry's Pomegranate-Spice Blend Soap (really specific I Know). Hairspray always smells really sweet to me idk why people say they hate the smell???

Who was the last person you talked to on the phone?: My D&D group (5 HOURS!)

Hair color?: Too dark to be blond, too light to be brown. I wanna dye it either that jewel toned blue again or black, but I don't feel like buying hair dye rn.

Eye color?: Brown brown brown! FUCK what anyone says brown eyes are the BOMB my entire family has either green or blue eyes so I've spent TOO LONG self-depreciating over that shit.

Favorite food to eat?: Lemon Cake w/ mascarpone is soooo good. Nothin tops Hoppin' John with Wild Rice though.

Scary movies or happy ending?: Happy Endings. I'm not (that) much of a sap but Scary Movies sometimes really work up my anxiety :(

Last movie you watched in a theater?: Once Again, time is an illusion but I think Frozen 2? NO it was Birds of Prey! Loved it.

Favorite holiday?: Halloween by default since a good 80% of holidays are boring.

Favorite animal?: BATS BATS BATS!!! I have a plushie of a Mariana Flying Fox I got from the zoo as a wee kid and I WUV THEM their name is Mango :3c. I also like peacocks because of their colors, & hummingbirds because they remind me of my grandmother and how they zip around!

How do you survive: As much as I hate to say it...Gambling. I would gamble with putting limits on myself. Like poker, odds or evens, and lastly beating on fights. And if I get money out of it, then I get a meal and a place to stay. But if not then out to the woods I go.

Do you seek out a Faction, or try to join Reunion or Rhodes Island?

I’d go for Rhode Island just cause it seems like a safer bet for me. 

02. Interpersonal

Who you do (HOPEFULLY) run into first?

Nightingale, Specter, Shining, or Pramanix (It’s not a Isekai if the male in a different world is not meeting a mysterious looking woman. just saying...)

Who do you think you’d be best friends with?

I have no idea why but I can see myself befriending. Beehunter, Deepcolor, FEater, Hung, Ansel, Manticore, Orchid, Matterhorn,  and Lancet-2

Who would you most likely get into conflict with?

I think I would get into conflict with those that I want to fight. Not in a hateful manner mind you. Just in a “You’re strong right? Then face me and let’s see who is the last one standing.” And it gets so bad that a conflict dose happen in the end... So here is that list: Hellagur, Hoshiguma, Courier, SilverAsh, Flamebringer, Siege, Executor, and just strong characters, that would kill me in a second, and not lose any sleep over it.

Who would be a (HOPEFUL) love -interest for you? Okay! Time to be shallow here! I don’t care if I am judged just throwing myself out there.  Broca cause man titty. Sesa because I am weak to redheads! But to be honest with you I would try to go for 3 of operators, and see where it takes me before I would make the first move of asking them out. Getting this one out the way first.

Matterhorn, He cooks, he is a protector, and his voice makes me melt. So I would love to spend time with him, and know as much as I can about him. That is if he wants to talk about it. 

Next is Midnight. Okay this one is odd and I will admit it. But after learning about his background, how charming he is, and the fact that I couldn’t help but fall in love with his design. I just pretty much like him right off the bat. Really, I would ask if I could hire him to be my host, and see how he got the title ‘Demon of the Night’. And if I couldn’t get far with him down the line of things. I still would like to be his friend, because I adore him so much. 

Who would you be rivals with?

Beehunter, FEater, and others who attack using there fist.

What is your dream (un)wanted harem?

My dream would be something I know I couldn’t have the real world I was from. Since I am in a new world I would try to make a bakery in the base, and sell baked goods at a good price. It would very on what I make, that day and how much is in sock at the time. First comes, first served for those who can make it or not. (But would low key save up some for those who forgot to eat or those who keep missing there chances to get anything for the week. )

03. Direction

What do you do?

Try not to die and rely on my luck like the dumbass that I am!

If you found a way to return to your world, would you want to?

Looks at my world and how it’s a dumpster fire. Looks at this world that is on fire. Sees how stressful my life is in that world and how I couldn’t be my own man. Sees how I made my dreams come true, while fighting in this world and growing as a result of it. “No.”
