2024 Fic Writer End of Year Roundup

I started a multi chapter wip this year but everything on my ao3 is complete 🙂‍↕️.

4. What was your favorite thing you wrote?

In the last two months I feel like I’ve written a lot of things that I’m really proud of. Maybe it’s because I’ve gotten more comfortable with myself and I have a little more confidence or I’ve just genuinely improved who knows lol. But Am I making you feel sick? is probably my favorite. It was such a self indulgent fic that was just everything I look for in tamcien fics. I got to explore tamlin’s feelings on lucien’s betrayal whilst also making him very deliciously mean. And I was very experimental with the smut and just my writing voice in general. Most of all I just really enjoyed writing it; it all came so easy to me because I was really excited and passionate about the idea. I think I did a good job portraying the angst and it was just exactly what I had imagined in my head.

End of Beginning is also one I’m really proud of. There were a lot of big feelings with Lucien coming back to Autumn that I was definitely worried I wouldn’t do justice but I think i did!! It was well received too which soothed my worries lol. There was a bunch of scenery descriptions of the Autumn court that were fun to figure out and really challenged me. This fic definitely pushed my skills and it has a special place in my heart for sure.

5. What piece was your most experimental or different from your usual style?

Am I making you feel sick? and My Heart did A Thing for every different reasons. Am I making you feel sick?, like I said, was me trying out a new writing voice and experimenting a lot with smut. It was by far the most kinky and explicit thing I’d written and it’s definitely a lot 😅. Made me a lot more comfortable with writing smut though.

My Heart did A Thing was a challenge because it was so warm and fluffy. I’m not used to writing tamcien being all cute and romantic. It’s either angst or they wanna devour each other, no in between, so this was a change and I really enjoyed it which I wasnt expecting!! Writing the slow burn, their innocent crushes on one another, their first kiss—it was all very tender stuff that I wasn’t used to but I think I developed a liking for soft tamcien after it. Maybe i’ll stop torturing them so much lol.

6. Did any fics surprise you - either while writing or their reception?

Want By Proxy being my most well received fic is insane work to me even now. I remembered when it hit a 100 kudos I was just in disbelief 😭. I was not expecting people to be into this at ALL. It’s a lucien/azriel fic which is like the rarest of rare pairs and holy shit it exceeded my every expectation. Is it my best work? no I could probably execute it better now but I still enjoy rereading it and the love for it means everything.

7. Do you have a fic you wrote and loved that went under the radar? (This is your sign to reblog/repost it!)

I don’t check my stats so I wouldn’t know lol but my quietest fic is One Bloody Interview. A vampire tamcien au I wrote for lucienweek that’s just all biting and blood and everything 13y/o me would have adored as a vampire fanatic.

8. Who is an artist that inspired you

So many lovely artists in this fandom I could go on forever!! @geniemillies @copypastus @thrumbolt for carrying the pro tamlin side of the fandom. @works-of-heart @jennastokesart @dimalry have some of the most gorgeous art styles I’ve ever seen fr.

9. Who is an author that inspired you?

It’s still insane to me that I’m mutuals/friends with so many authors that I literally used to fangirl over before making this blog. @zenkindoflove @crazy-ache obviously I have to mention these two, act surprised. Literally got me back into my fanfic phase and it all just spiraled from there. @achaotichuman for starting my tamcien obsession no joke. Was feeding me on ao3 when there was a total of like 50 tamcien fics. @highlordofkrypton everything she does inspires me. I’m in awe of anything she does.

10. Who is a new author you discovered?

I’ve been slacking in reading fics lately but @olenvasynyt has me completely enamored with her Lucien backstory fic. If you’re not reading what are you doing!!

11. Did you do any collaborations? How did it start?

No, way too anxious for that 😅.

12. What accomplishments are you proudest of?

Honestly just sharing my work online is a really big deal for me. Even now, six months later, I’m still really weird about posting on ao3 like I just have a complex surrounding it😭. Sharing my work is very vulnerable and makes me very anxious, more than what’s necessary. The second I post my fics I just start hating them and I get this urge to delete everything and disappear for 3 months?? Sometimes I can’t even read comments bc I hate the idea of being perceived. It’s weird ik but I’m working on it. It’s why I’m really proud of myself for posting anyways and not letting that get to me or ruining writing for me.

13. What did you learn about writing or creating this year?

So.freaking.much.

When I decided to start writing this summer I had no idea what I was getting myself into. Hell I still have no idea what I’m doing. I learned so much about writing this year and I still am and will continue to learn. But probably the biggest thing I learned was that it’s really difficult to be objective about your own writing and I think it’s especially harder when you’re very self critical and have confidence issues. I’ve learned that I need to be kinder to myself and that writing should be fun and something I enjoy and want to do. I’ve learned to stop thinking as my writing as something that will be seen by other ppl and more just something for me. I write because I enjoy seeing my ideas come to life and it’s something that fills my time and gives me purpose. I like having something to do, an end goal. Removing that pressure of posting and being perceived has made me a better writer. Yes I usually end up sharing my writing but a lot of the times when I’m writing, I genuinely have no interest in posting them; I’m just working on fics because I want to. For me.

14. Any advice you’d like to share with new or aspiring writers?

Progress takes time. No one wants to hear it but it’s true. The more you write the better you’ll get and the easier it’ll be. Read books and other’s people’s works and write your own stuff. Don’t compare yourself to more seasoned authors when you’re still starting out, it’s simply not fair to you. Just enjoy what you’re writing and before you know it , you will be improving and getting better.

15. What are your creative goals for 2025?

Write. Literally that’s it, I just want to write without the endless procrastination and self doubt. I just want to keep writing and improving and having fun.

Let's start with Scrapper boy because holy shiiiiit.

What can I even say without repeating myself? He's just THAT guy. An engineer, an artist, and a PSYCHO! Seriously, I am not reaching here; he fits into the "cultured psychopath" trope perfectly (think Hannibal Lecter). However, the thing that elevates Scrapper and gives his character a bit more texture is the fact that he is a truly modest and competent leader; unlike most generic psychos who get lost in their egos, Scrapper doesn't have that, nor does he have illusions of grandeur. He may be a true psycho and maniac, but that doesn't stop him from being a decent person, a good leader, and a model soldier. Perfect character.

Now I'll say, I'm very picky with Scrapper, and I'll say there's barely any people out there who truly get his character. What do I mean specifically? Well, some people either write him as a 100% remorseless and awful goon or a spineless soft leader who is just that nice... and maybe they gloss over the fact he puts BODY PARTS in his projects. Another crucial thing people miss is the fact that his modesty applies to his work, NOT TO HIS ART! HE LIKES TO GET PRAISED FOR HIS ART; IN FACT, HE RELISHES IN THAT PRAISE. He is an artist, after all; our food is compliments lmao.

Another take I see about him that is just... Uncalled for... Are people saying he's secretly insecure... I think you missed the point; go back to the drawing board. (Of course a character not being 100% confident all the fucking time is normal and healthy for your writing, but turning his modesty into some inferiority complex is... Questionable).

Either way, if they make a new TF show with Scrapper in it... They should contact me so I can write him.

Devastator was a "love at first combination" thing. It must've been my already existing love for Bruce and The Hulk, but daaaaamn the way I gravitated toward this guy was surreal, to say the least.

The nature of him being a combiner makes it so I don't have much value to add outside of appreciation for aesthetics and baseless headcanons.

I'll say, I don't like when people write him as SUPER mature. He has to be either a dumb brute or a dumb kid, but I'm not so picky with him because, like... less than 10% of fics have him (one day I'll find myself bored enough to make an actual chart or something).

I also liked his scenes in ExRID #38 and I love how Andrew Griffith draws him (he makes Long Haul's truck bed the thighs 😍...)

what can I say about this ship that hasn’t been said? They make me genuinely insane and they hit in ways… I’ve been obsessed with and have actively shipped them for over half my life lol. They are my ultimate OTP. I don’t even really care for e2l pairings personally but lawlight to me is just Different and those that get it get it

2) Kataang from Avatar: The Last Airbender

Literally they were the first ship I ever shipped. I’ve shipped this pairing since I was like 8 years old. They are very near and dear to my heart and they are so cute and perfect together and they spark so much joy and I am SO EXCITED for the movie!!!!

3) Byler from Stranger Things

I am obsessed with this ship. I love them so much and I am rooting for their endgame in the final season! I love the analysis the byler shippers come up with and they’re genuinely such a fun ship to me

My favorite character of all time is Light Yagami from Death Note. I fucking LOVE his character so much. I just love everything about him. The way he’s written, the nuance, his whole aesthetic. It’s so *chefs kiss* and I have so many thoughts about him. I am NOT one of those death note “fans” that hates Light or drags his character lol. I am a Light enjoyer unapologetically and he imo is one of the best villains of ALL TIME

Another character I love immensely is Carl Grimes from The Walking Dead comic book. Not the show cuz the show is trash! I used to relate so much to Carl growing up bc I read the comic book as a teen. He’s forever cemented as one of my favorite characters of all time. Also I love the character design and how he’s kind of an anti hero

I also love Ellie Williams from The Last of Us 1 and 2 for the same reason. She reminds me a lot of Carl in the “anti hero” sense. She’s also such a badass. Love those video games !!!!

I also love Eren Yeager from Attack on Titan. Can you tell I like morally questionable characters? Lol. Eren was always and will always remain my favorite character in AOT. He’s kind of crazy but I like it lol and I kind of relate 🤣

Aang from ATLA is also one of my favorite characters. He’s got a sick character design, I love the way he’s written and he’s genuinely a huge comfort character to me. His character arc makes me cry it’s so well done and I love his personality. His character makes me very happy :)

Lastly I think another fav character is Will Byers from Stranger Things. I relate heavily HEAVILY with him. Not only that he’s an artist like me, or his personality which is similar to me as well, but also his upbringing with an abusive father and lastly the fact he’s canonically a gay guy like me makes me feel very represented in the show. He’s my favorite in the entire cast of characters. Love him to death and Noah Schnapp was such a perfect cast and he acts his ass off every second of screen time

Definitely the fandom itself. February of 2022 was when I officially joined the fandom and made an account even thought I had been watching since June of 2021. This was my first time ever truly being in a fandom. I have met some of my forever friends here and genuinely had some of the biggest laughs I’ve ever had in my life. Being an editor in this fandom encouraged me to edit for all the other things I love and I’ve been noticed by some of my fav celebrities and artists. Though this fandom has also been full of drama, and honestly some people who are disgusting human beings…I’d never change a thing. All the good I’ve gotten from this fandom overweights all the bad. Plus you guys are some of the most talented ppl and I’m just grateful to know you 😭

Anyways I love the DF Fandom, and I hope to stay friends with a lot of ppl in it 🫶🏾

the emperor's new school not being popular after it's been out for almost 20 years makes me so bitter and sad. My first favorite show was Total Drama and it was also kinda unknown when I was a fan, but still more known than new school, and then it blew up a few years ago and I soo badly want that to happen to new school. It doesn't even have to be that popular but like... it still deserves to have a casual fan base at least? I want to see popular Twitter artists making fanart from time to time. Or cartoon review YouTubers making videos on how funny and nostalgic it is. You'd even think more Disney fans would talk about it in relation to other characters/films because it's based on the beloved new groove but it's just... ignored? It has so much content for fans to love, to get creative with. It's so funny and heartfelt and entertaining. Why does it get paid dust. How do we fix it?? hi!!! oooh… i’d honestly say stranger things— LEMME EXPLAIN.

i wasn’t an original watcher. i tuned in between s2 and s3, and because my dad (boooooo) introduced me to it while i was at his place for visitation. from the get-go it had me hooked; i love sci-fi as a genre and was immediately obsessed with the way s1 opens with the demogorgon tearing through the lab and with el ending up at benny’s. that first season is so nostalgic and small… gives off that magic of something you just know is going to be good.

i love all the kids— loved that the show is centric around them and their interactions— and immediately fell in love with el. telekinetic girl raised in a lab her entire life who simply wants to be normal… say less. will byers… i know what you are. since s1. me too, babe. hopper. HOPPER. lucas <333 literally that entire cast lives in my chest. could go on forever about those damn characters.

plus kyle dixon and michael stein, the guys who do the ost, are insane. they’ve been my top artist for spotify at least twice, i think? they truly sell the show, the soundtrack is the backbone and keeps that shit afloat fr!!!

i think i just ate up the concept of the show as a whole. ik s4 and s1 are COMPLETELY different bc shit just changes after ten years of making a show, but i’ve fallen in love with the characters and want to see them all get their deserved endings. and i love love LOVE the lore— el’s plotline from s4 with the lab and everything really had me at the edge of my seat i was so sat. but it also got me thru some tough stuff and kept me sane (s/o to my steve harrington fic <3) so i owe it like… everything. haha.

Like, Sinbad no bouken and magi are two of my favourite manges and while my favourite character is Sinbad, I f*ckin' love Kouen. The guy is SO noble and so strategic with a brilliant mind, I can talk about him forever and YES, I ship him with Yuu too ! Not a lot of people do it , I mean, my circle of magi friends do but in general it is not a very popular ship in the fandom . Shame, because YuuEn ( or vice versa ) is sooo awesome , like imagine Yuu as the emperor and kouen as his right hand man and advisor. That's what kou deserved. Do you have pixiv? I mean, do I even need to say it? Elena Gilbert. Constantly being burnt at the pire of internalized misogyny and media illiteracy.
